We discovered Ali Baba Mid Eastern Restaurant while browsing Yelp for local recommendations, and I'm so glad we chose this place! Everything about it--the food, ambiance, and service--was excellent. Overall Ratings: * Restaurant: 5/5 * Service: 5/5 * Food: 5/5 * Parking: Street parking & back lot available Restaurant Atmosphere: I love the authentic décor and the thoughtful layout. The restaurant offers three distinct seating areas: -A main dining room with booths and chairs -A traditional Middle Eastern seating area -A covered outdoor hookah lounge I was initially concerned that the hookah smoke might affect our dining experience, but the setup ensures a comfortable atmosphere for everyone. Service: The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. They offered great recommendations and, best of all, provided efficient service. What We Ordered: -Spanikopita - Delicious. -Lamb Tajine - Absolutely delicious! -Moroccan Chicken - The chicken was unbelievably tender and flavorful--one of my favorite dishes in a long time. The portion sizes were generous! Almost every guest, including us, left with leftovers. Final Thoughts: Without a doubt, I'll be returning soon to explore more of the menu. Ali Baba Mid Eastern Restaurant has easily become one of our favorite spots in Delaware!

I hadn't been here in over 7 years and it's still the best middle Eastern restaurant!! The service is wonderful and the decor is so cool. They make the only baba ghanoush I like and my fav is the lamb kebabs. I'm sure every dish is delish and their portions are generous. This was a real treat and I look forward to the next visit.

The ambiance was very traditional and warming. I went in on a Tuesday evening and it seemed to be slow but steady with to-go orders. The service was friendly and attentive. BUT THE FOOD best Mediterranean food I've had! Best meal I have had in a while (& I love food), to be honest. There were so many flavors in everything. The hummus, whoa! Please try the Samke Harra. It was moist and the garlic sauce is sooo yummy.

There's something different about a family run restaurant, isn't there? The experience is different, and subsequently, the review must be different. It's impossible to rate a dinner at a friend's home against the same criteria as dining out. And so I'm rating my experience at Ali Baba as if Khalid, Imad, and the rest of the family were personal friends because that is what they became by the end of the evening. Traveling to Newark frequently for work, I kept passing by and promising to make this a stop on my next visit. This week, I kept my promise and was happy I did. Environment is always important to me, and I enjoyed the aesthetic that complimented the Middle Eastern influenced menu. Service was warm and prompt. Portions were large enough to share with a few others, and I enjoyed the abundant but balanced use of herbs and spices. Flavors were as strong as you'd hope but not in an overwhelming way. The Moroccan chicken was recommended as the family favorite, and it was falling off the bone tender and I enjoyed it as I got to know each of the fine folks who worked there and were kind enough to chat with a solo traveler. Next time, I look forward to the Bastilla, which is hard to find, especially in my home city, and which can be customized with the protein of your choice. One request I'd make is to consider a different situation for the music. It was constantly interrupted by loud commercials, which felt a bit abrupt and distracting from the rest of the experience.

Lamb Tajeen - nice size serving.

The decor was fun and definitely Middle Eastern themed. Three male waiters took turns circulating around the table and took excellent care of my wife and I. I got a gin and tonic that was pretty heavy on the gin which is not common. My wife and I both greatly enjoyed the meals that we selected.. I jokingly complained to the waiter that they serve too much food and that I'm gonna have to take some home. He smiled and said they plan it that way. All in all a very enjoyable dining experience. We would definitely go back.

Have been meaning to come to this spot on main street and it did not disappoint. The inside was extremely cozy, the service was great as the owner was very attentive and made good conversation. Has a lot of room for bigger parties in the main room, and the food was lovely. The food was an absolute treat, will be coming again.

Peanut and Tree-nut Allergy Safe…read more Food was delicious and fresh. Everything we ordered was hot coming out, and tasted great. Waiter was friendly, helpful and it did not take long to get our food. I have a lethal Peanut and tree-nut allergy and had no issues eating here or communicating with the staff. At the time I came the only thing that has nuts is the deserts, so I was able to pick from the whole menu when it came to food and not worry about entree cross contamination which was a delightful surprise. This includes their vegetarian options which were also nut free. I am excited to go back and try more of their menu.

I'm providing this honest review as a constructive feedback for improvement…read more We came across this place online but were only able to try it recently...I was honestly disappointed by many things: First, when a place advertises shawarma meat and posts videos of the famous Lebanese shawarma revolving cone that grills the marinated meat as the cone turns, you would expect that the shawarma plate you order is an authentic shawarma meat cut off the shawarma cone...unfortunately, this was not the case at cafe baladi. I respect the owner who's advertising authentic homemade Lebanese food but the shawarma meat we got was not an authentic shawarma meat...this was meat that was cooked either in a pan or in the oven and was not tender because it was not probably marinated and it's not grilled on the shawarma cone. Placed that have the famous shawarma cone you can usually see in the restaurant either behind the counter or through a window in the back - this was not the case. Second the plate included the choice of hummus or baba ghannouj and tabbouleh...we picked baba ghannouj and we got the tabbouleh...again, the baba ghannouj did not taste at all authentic nor homemade...it tasted like the baba ghannouj in a conserved can that you find in grocery stores. Authentic baba ghannouj is made from grilled eggplant tahini lemon juice and salt. Third, the Lebanese tabboule is made from finely chopped vegetables (parsley, tomatoes, onions, lemon juice, and burgul). Unfortunately again this tabbouleh was not finely chopped and it lacked the burgul. We were really disappointed. The only positive thing was that the service was quick.

We settled on some hummus with fried meat on top and a Sambousek for appetizer. The hummus was lemony and very light and served with pita. The fried meat on top of it added nothing, however. The chicken sambousek was hot and very nice and would have benefitted from some sort of sauce to dip it in. The fatoush salad was ok. I had the msakaah which was a stewy eggplant served next to some dark rice served with a lentil soup. The soup was light and mild and matched the msakaah which was not going to over-spice anyone's palate. The other entree of shish tawook arrived as a ring of grilled chicken kabob chunks surrounding a bed of rice that was topped with zesty summer vegetables. It was a great presentation and was very ample in its portions and the winner of the evening. We were both very full at the end of the meal but life is short and so I ordered some namoura for dessert which was a dense cake, saturated with a honey sauce and topped with a pistachio glaze. It was a great dessert - solid and sweet but not too sweet. The ownership of the restaurant had recently changed hands which accounted for the barebones menu and hopefully that will change with some descriptions and pictures because if one is going to venture into a new cuisine, why not give future diners a 'heads up'? Worth going back when some of the new start-up kinks are worked out.

Luckily, we tracked down our waitress for a second round and it took 20 minutes. Worst part was that it was my sister's birthday. While our server Angel comp'ed a second glass of wine for her, it was 2 hours and 15 minutes before we were able to ask for the check and were ready to go so their normal birthday dessert was no longer an option. I spent every summer in this town, growing up, and I never discovered this restaurant until a precious friend brought me here a few years ago. It's a dated, though efficient, and charming, cafe with fresh dishes you might love. Firstly, if you plan on having lunch here on a Monday, make sure you are able to finish by 2:45 since they close by 3pm. All other days, they are open past 8pm. We started with the sweet potato soup despite the fact that the reviews for the lentil soup here are the highest. Yes! If it's featured: get it! The turmeric and coconut milk make this soup delightful. The herbs made it so fresh and there was just the right amount of sweetness and gentle heat. Parsley really adds to this recipe and I'm not usually a fan of this herb. The pitas are soft, thin and light. Love them. We needed to order more. I've never had such paper-thin pitas. Yum! I love love love the hummus, here. It is nothing short of divine. The flavors are fabulous and deeply complex. You can really taste the tahini. The olive oil is mild and delicious. I exclaimed, "the hummus was the best ever." And then 5 minutes later, I read a review by Yelper James H. where he says it's the best ever and, "... this hummus at Cedars of Lebanon might have ruined all other hummus for me forever." While I've had similar swooning feelings over the hummus at Lebanese Taverna in Tyson's Corner, this hummus is at least a top contender if not the metro DC area's hummus winner. The cucumber mint yogurt salad is nice, cold and refreshing. You can really taste the mint. I would order this yogurt salad with every meal. The falafel pizza is unusual and fresh. Straight away-- you can taste the tahini, parsley and couscous. The dough is grainy and natural. And there are radishes on this falafel pizza: not overpowering. For the $9 or so pricepoint, this dish is a true labor of love. To prep all of these vegetables, even with food processors, must take time. How novel of a dish! Put the yogurt salad on this pizza. You will thank me. And I only did it because I was watching someone else slather it on. There were at least 12 desserts on the menu. Meow. If we weren't so full of pita, hummus, tahini and fresh veggies, we certainly would love to taste a few of these. As well as the Turkish coffee, with an authentic ceramic and metal carafé presentation.

The restaurant has a small outdoor dining area with three four-seater tables, which was find for our two dogs. The experience overall was pretty low key, which necessarily is not a bad thing. Although there is waiter/waitress service, you will have to order your food at the cashier's counter. Actually, maybe that's only a thing if you are dining outside. The menu has a nice mix of Middle Eastern dishes. I went with a beef (or maybe it was lamb) kabob plate. The portions were fine and my meal was pretty good. It was not out of this world amazing, but it got the job done. I thought that the prices were pretty good for the area and the amount of food received. Although the food was fine, I do not think that I would go out of my way (e.g., driving more than 30 minutes) to dine here. Just be aware that the restaurant does not serve alcoholic beverages.
