My sister and I are passing through El Paso on the long, long, one way haul from Los Angeles to Houston. We are tired. We are hungry. We are looking for a place that will satisfy a vegetarian and someone who is decidedly not vegetarian. On a Sunday. And, like a lighthouse in the middle of a hundred barbecue joints, there is a Mediterranean restaurant! So we wander in a bit before dinner rush time. She gets grilled veggies, lentil soup, and falafels. I get lamb and beef shawarma sandwich and a side of hummus. She had me try the falafels which were delectably hot and crispy. The soup came hot. The grilled veggies had a nice smoky flavor. I wolfed down my sandwich--excellent--and pita/hummus plate. I topped it off with walnut baklava because, I mean, baklava is simply one of the world's best desserts when it's done right. And it was done quite well here. My sister converted to baklanvanism on the spot. It's unlikely we'll be back simply because we are passers through, but if you live here or are passing through yourself, definitely worth having a meal here! read more

Came on a date with my sons & ordered chicken shawarma and gyro (kids). It was decent, but wrapped in a tortilla? I hated that I came for Mediterranean food and ended up with chicken wrapped in a tortilla and fries... why!!!?? Even though we are neighbors with Mexico, keep the food authentic! I know where to go for Mexican food. We sat inside & the boys liked the swords on the walls, but changed to sit outside and that was not a good idea. This place is amazing! We started with the hummus and pita bread. It was a meal in itself and the most delicious hummus and presented beautifully. We ordered the cucumber mint Lemonade, it was delicious. Would be so refreshing on a hot day. We took one to go. I wanted to love this place...it's elegant, and the manager/owner was really attentive to all customers. There was fantastic live music and dancing, and the presentation of everything was beautiful. Unfortunately, the food was just mediocre. The hummus was okay, but I came here to enjoy the kebab and beef. They had two ground meats, and when I asked the server what the difference was, she said "they taste the same to me". Sorry, but that's not really helpful! The menu also did not describe the difference in ingredients either. If this is the case, please do not offer me two as if I can make an informed selection. The beef tasted like...I hate to say it...airplane food. It was remarkably dull. The lamb kebab tasted fresh and quite lamb-ey. But the beef was soggy and squishy and reminded me of the type I can buy frozen and reheat. The chicken was subpar--tender, yes, but far from flavorful. Stopped in to grab a quick bite one afternoon. I ordered the Gyro Combo with fries and a drink. Everything was great from the Gyro meat, to the pita itself, all the way down to the Tsatziki sauce. My review is on the whole experience. The food was delish, but the service ruined it. Our young lady server was combative. I had previously called to see if they served wine. They don't, but stated I could take my own. We were a dinner group of about 10. I took the wine, the opener and little cups for who ever wanted. At the end of our meal and we received our bills, there was a $9.50 wine charge. I questioned it and the server stated that is what they charge for the setup. (What???) I told her I was not told there was a charge and she proceeded to say she told me.....I said no you didn't.....she said yes I did! So we argued (imagine, she was arguing with a customer) back and forth for a bit. A few minutes later she came to ask me if she could borrow the wine opener, I was furious, so I refused. I had the Chicken Kabob, and my wife had the Gyro platter, both with grilled veggies in place of fries or rice (in keeping with our keto approach to eating). The food was delicious - great seasonings, the veggies weren't over cooked like at many places. This food is unbelievably sooo good! I love Mediterranean food and I have to say that this is the best Mediterranean restaurant in the Southwestern region. The falafels were cooked perfectly, moist on the inside. The hummus was smooth and had a really nice hint of lemon flavor. The baba ganoush was so yummy! Oh! And the garlic paste was simply amazing. The tabbouleh had the perfect amount of lemon and was the best I've ever had. The pita was freshly made and delish! My husband's chicken shawarma was huge and the chicken was tasty. He added the garlic paste to it and it made it perfect blend! The ambiance was so pleasant and peaceful with music in the background. Wait! The most important part of this experience was the service. I forgot his name, but this young guy was so helpful and provided us with really good serve, answering all our questions and was very attentive to our needs. Ok so with covid there's limited options right? & I was so in the mood for a Mediterranean dish. I couldn't decide between Zino's, kebab forever or Ali baba and I chose Ali baba because their falafel looked so yummy. I ordered a lamb gyro and falafel and omg really yummy food. My boyfriend and I started our meal off with the small order of hummus and the Pita Araeyes. To start off the hummus was beautifully prepared, very light and flavorful the look resembled the New Mexico Flag- very neat. I loved the oil, tomatoes and herbs they placed perfectly in the middle was not overwhelming but a nice way to get some texture in the hummus. The small order was a great size, I could only imagine the large. The side of Pita was nice, fluffy and warm. The pita araeyes was just as great and kinda reminded us of a quesadilla- who doesn't love a quesadilla. The yogurt they paired with the dish complimented the pita perfectly and tasted so fresh.... I even saved it for my main meal I couldn't get enough. For dinner we had picked two different entrees: Koobideh Kabab and Kafta Kabab. The only difference between the two is that the Kafta is made with more spices. These dishes had tasted the same but no complaints they were delicious. They both are beef dishes and sprinkled with more herbs, white rice and roasted onions and tomatoes. The two dishes came with Tahini sauce which was good but the YOGURT, please get yourself an extra order I swear it was more fragrant and fresh. We loved how simple and light these dishes were and they were also filling. We had to get a to-go box because as much as we wanted to keep eating it was a lot of food! Were excited for the left overs we're just waiting to get hungry again haha. Overall, the experience was nice. Staff was sweet and attentive. This place can be easily missed because of the location but once you find there's no turning back! It's a great Mediterranean restaurant. I would definitely say it's in my top recommendations. For those interested in drinks- No alcohol but that didn't change anything, they do offer non-alcohol cocktails which I thought was very neat and convenient to kids or non drinkers. This place is beyond delicious, if you are a lover of Mediterranean food or want to try something new and delicious I highly recommend this place the Hummus is fresh and tasty the pit wedges are warm and slightly crispy but still chewy and soft. All the dishes we had are beyond tasty and cooked perfectly. I have tried the few other Mediterranean places here in El Paso and this place has them beat by 3 stars by far. I will be back here often. After being in El Paso for two years and missing east coast diversity and variety in both people and food, Ali Baba was an amazing surprise. First, the food! I'm a vegetarian but I like to occasional horrify other vegetarians and vegans by eating delicious meat, and what better place to do it than trying a new restaurant. I had the lamb chops and it was delicious. The right amount of spices, juicy, and perfect. My wife had some other lamb dish, which the waitress said was good but the lamb chops were better. Points for honesty. And yes, it was good, but the chops were better. The staff was all super friendly, knowledgeable about their food, and also very funny. There was live music from a local artist the day we went, and that too was good. I highly recommend this place if you need a change from the El Paso cuisine of mostly Mexican food. read more

The restaurant is located close to the Home Depot on the West Side and is bright and colorful. All of the people who work there are friendly, and the customer service is wonderful! Inside is sleek and modern. Waiter was very knowledgeable when it came to the menu. I don't remember his name but he was wearing glasses. I had a gyro. The gyro was of a lamb and beef mix. The wrap was very tasteful. The sauce was on point and helped marry all the ingredients together very well. I got the meal which came with the option of fries or salad. I chose the Greek salad. The salad was very good although I wish I ordered the fries. They have a very large menu which made things a bit overwhelming. I also tried the falafels. I've been here 3 times now, and have enjoyed each meal. Parking in front of the restaurant is a little scares, but there's plenty of room in the Home Depot parking area. The building is fairly new and the restaurant is clean with a nice, modern decor. They have a good selection of Mediterranean staples, and prices are very reasonable. They have a great selection of sandwiches, each offered "a la carte" or as a combo (with fries and drink) all under $10. The portions are generous with plenty of meat in the sandwiches and a healthy basket of fries on the side. I rated it 4 stars for the following: 1) On one visit, my wife ordered the shish kabob which comes with a side of rice, and they were out of rice and had to substitute for a salad. It wasn't that big of a deal, but my wife really likes Mediterranean style rice (she did enjoyed the salad). 2) When I ordered sandwich combos for takeout, the french fry portions were much smaller compared to dining in, probably less than half the size we were served when dining in. 3) Our takeout order of falafel wasn't as good as previous visits. Still very good flavors, but just a little over cooked and dry. None of the issues mentioned above are a big deal or detracted much from our experience, but when combined, it cost them one star in this review. read more

I usually order the gyro sandwich combo, but regardless of what you order you need to ask for a side of their signature garlic sauce if it doesn't already come with it! This has nothing to do with COVID .., the food was okay but the service was terrible. It seems the high school girl in the front needs a lot of training. First., she doesn't know the menu so she kept saying " I think" I think "! I ordered a combo with fries and drink and she never came back with the drink so I had to go to the front to remind her. After that never offered refills ., she just never came back. Anyways.,; when she finally came back till about 20 minutes later with the food she ordered the entree instead of the combo wrap so it didnt come with the pita bread which is odd since they all do.
