My wife and I went in and had our choice of seating. My wife had Shawarma chicken and Mediterranean salad. I had hot chicken wings and Mediterranean salad. Both were good and we would order this again if in this area. The bathrooms were moderately clean but the trash needed to be emptied in the men's. Slno complaints with the service but the atmosphere would have been better if Mediterranean music had been playing instead of some pop music. Nothing against pop music but the restaurant was a Mediterranean restaurant with Mediterranean decor; Why not add Mediterranean music. read more

Super disappointed. Ordered mid-afternoon on a Sunday via Uber Eats. Ordered 3 things: chicken schwarma plate with salad, hummus and kibbeh. The kibbeh was ok, could use some more seasoning, but it was the best thing we received. The hummus had a TON of olive oil on it and... no pita. If I'm paying $10.99 for hummus, I'd like to not have to go microwave a tortilla from the kitchen. The chicken schwarma was flavorful with the garlic sauce on the side, but the meat itself was very dry. The description said it should come with a side of pickles, which we also didn't receive. The salad had potential, but we ended up with the tough center stem of the iceberg composing most of the lettuce. We asked for utensils, which also weren't included. We have eaten here in the past, in person, and it wasn't this bad... maybe an off day? Bad time to order? Whoever was fulfilling the order today just didn't care about what was being sent. read more

Dining room is spacious and lovely and there is a very impressive enclosed patio with traditional seating around the outside periphery. Not sure where the proprietors are originally from but you can see that the family isn't big enough to man all the positions in the kitchen or on the wait staff. Two very young girls were working - and you could tell they were trying very hard, but unfortunately i think the owner needs to realize they can't do it all. Expect no refills and slow service. The food was okay, but it was just that - not great, not bad, but meh. The menu is extensive, and it's hard to narrow down what to get. I appreciate they offer kids dinners of chicken tenders for palates that may not like Mediterranean food quite yet. Entrees were decent sized, but the chicken was meh. The gyro was pretty okay. What a promising name Ali Baba, you would expect a magical cave with thousands of culinary treasures. But, unfortunately the story ends here. The service was abysmal, I think that three of the forty thieves were in action tonight. Disorganized, extremely slow and clearly not trained to do their job. The mezze or vegetarian platter includes a small hummus, small Baba ghanouj, 4 pieces of falafel fried, 4 pieces of fresh dolmas, authentic tabbouleh was just alright- pedestrian at best. The lamb chops was under cooked and my kebab koobideh was fairly dry. The Basmati rice was underwhelming; lacks of buttery richness. So, overall very disappointing. I think I got robbed by the 40 thieves. The decor is cool and of Mediterranean influence with a camel at the entry that was offered by a patron as a gift. So, a comfortable charming Middle Eastern place that deserves better service and attention to the food. The concept of the restaurant is great though, so a lot of potential and for someone who was posted in the region, I have learned to appreciate local Mediterranean food. My absolute favorite place to eat in town!! The food is amazing, my go to is always the ShishTawouk and a mint lemonade of course delicious as always. You can't go wrong with the lamb or the piña colada. Service is impeccable and our server was very attentive and friendly, we were greeted with quickness and our food was handled with great care. The Yelp description of 3 stars is very appropriate for this restaurant: "OK". It wasn't bad, but it wasn't over-the-top great either. Upon entering the restaurant, everything looked great. Upon sitting down and looking around, it became evident that everything is in some state of disrepair. The food was overall good. I've had better. The fattoush salad was lacking in that there were little to no chips in it. For me, the best part of a fattoush salad is the crispy pita chips in it. I don't recall this one having any. The vegetarian sampler platter was great. I'm not a huge fan of baba ganoush, but actually ate a few bites here. Service was rather slow, but there was only one person doing the host + server duties for the entire restaurant. I tipped him nicely for that despite the blah service in and décor. Lastly, it never ceases to amaze me when a nice, sit-down restaurant used disposable tableware. We were informed of this by our server when we were seated and it wasn't enough to drive us away but it's just weird when you're seated inside a restaurant, at a table with a cloth, and you're served with disposable plates, plastic cutlery, and disposable cups. Started my training at the office today and it's soup weather, but I needed something that would be more appropriate and easy to handle and I found Ali Baba close by. ‍ Gyros was the perfect choice for easy clean eating. Their gyros were very flavorful and generous sized ($6) the meal included fries ($3). It was very easy to order over the phone and pickup. I recommend them for dining in as well since the interior was just gorgeous and I'm sure the patio area great as well once it's not freezing. I was staying close to the restaurant while traveling so decided to give it a try early evening given Yelp's overall 4 star rating. The place was empty of customers. The chicken and the beef in both wraps were very dry, the beef wrap more so than the chicken. The baba and the hummus sides ordered were decent but overall the food was underwhelming based on the total price of $47. The food should have been popping with flavor. To start off there was cultural dancer in traditional Middle Eastern wear, sorry no pics, and a three person band who played a few songs. I think this was the right choice but there were so many other meals that looked good, scwarma chicken, gyros, falafel, and so much more offered. Parking was limited probably because the place was packed but I was able to park at an adjacent store (lot) that was already closed for the day. My daughter spilled her drink that got on her food but the waitress kindly replaced the drink and her meal. I thought this was unheard of in most restaurants to replace a meal that was a customer's fault but the care and concern of the waitress was trully there. I wish more people were like that. My first impression of the restaurant was positive upon walking in. We were greeted quickly and shown to a table. I liked the decor and they did a great job of making you feel as if you were no longer in a strip mall restaurant. It's also quite large inside. They have an extensive menu but we stuck with our usual favorites since we had never been there before. We ordered the veggie sampler, lentil soup, a fatush salad, and our sons ordered gyro sandwiches. The veggie sampler had hummus, lots of pitas, baba ganouj, falafel, dolma, tabbouleh, and cucumber yogurt. The hummus was smooth, creamy, and delicious. The dolmas were very good, the falafel and tabbouleh were good. I can't speak for the baba ganouj because I never like it. I keep trying in hopes that it will grow on me but I'm not there. The lentil soup was very good. The fatush salad was just OK. I was expecting a salad with lots of tomatoes, cucumber, and pita chips. My salad came without pita chips. It wasn't bad, I just really had my heart set on a salad with pita chips. I wouldn't order that again. My kids seemed to enjoy their gyro sandwiches. I stole some of their fries and those were good. Good Mediterranean? YES PLS. Thank you El Paso for satisfying my cravings. Location - Located in the large Walmart plaza on Mesa right next to Happy Feet, it was very easy to find, although parking might be sparse since there are many other businesses around. I've been to this area plenty of times and just noticed Ali Baba! But I guess that's because it just opened. Ambiance - Spacious and wide open with plenty of booths and tables. There was a bar area as well as an outside area with what looked like heaters and sofas (looked really comfy). The interior was decorated with various decor that suited the atmosphere of the restaurant. It was really nice to walk into. Service - The service was great! The waitress was patient with my indecisiveness and even gave recommendations. She also told us about how the restaurant came to be which made me really appreciate the food even more. Food - Boyfriend had the Shawarma Lamb and Beef while I had the Shwarma Chicken w/o a combo. The shawarma itself was really good and almost about a foot long! The fries were nothing special, but the shawarma was evenly distributed with meat, sauce, etc. which I found to be rare in many places. They even had a non-alcoholic menu of basically virgin drinks that was very tempting and cheap! Pricing - For a foot long shawarma, it was $7 which was more than enough food for me. It's a bit more for fries and a drink, but only by $2 more. Coming from Dallas and Austin, the El Paso restaurant scene can be lacking sometimes, but Ali Baba has done a great job with presenting Mediterranean food. For the price, value, and deliciousness of the food, I will definitely be back. P.S. They have live music and belly dancing on Fridays! What can I say? The food is great but they 100% of the time NEVER have To-Go orders ready for pickup. I'm talking 20-45 minutes AFTER stated ready times on DoorDash to the point where my delivery drivers have just left and cancelled the order. They really need to work on this! They also need to stop leaving the back door to the kitchen open while they're cooking! It's not hygienic. Get a better AC system for the cooks. Bugs and flying insects are for sure coming into the kitchen this way. Not good. As soon as we entered, the a very nice, smiling and well mannered female cashier and/or server greeted us, but the young guy (later found out about his name , Majad or Majid or Majed) looked at us with frown. the Restuarant had two families busy in their dinner ( a family of two, and a family of three). While we were heading to seat ourselves, I smiled and jokingly said to the girl and Majed, that this family brought me from outside so i can enjoy the dinner with them. The girl picked up the humor and laughed along. Where as Majed's expression changed from frown to anger, so I asked him, hey young man! No sense of humor? He replied by saying, NOO... and then added, for a family of 5, u have to call in advance and make reservations. I was really taken aback. After a few moments, I regained my composure and told him, I am sorry, I didnt know that u have such a rule in ur restuarant. (Such a rule was neither posted outside nor inside). He gestured us to be seated and said, "its okay. I will allow you to sit and have a meal." I really didnt like the way he made that genture. It was as if he was a lofty majestic king allowing us to dine on his grand dining table, as if doing us a great favour by allowing us to dine in his restuarant. I realized that there is no need to stay there further, and told my family, "lets not spend in a place where people have no manners as to how to talk to a paying customer." I approached the counter, and inquired if any manager is present on this shift. I was informed that he is not present currently. So I asked for his name and number, which Majed gave very arrogantly. I asked him if he is related to the manager, and he nodded. So good! My first stop while in El Paso and I could not have been happier with the food and service. Super friendly and attentive. We had the Kafta kebabs and dolmas which were all delicious.
