However, they want to make a sale, Please use your own intuition. Their items are quite overpriced. No one needs a 500.00 blouse. Or, a 1500 dress with 400.00 suggested earrings. But yes, I bought these. Yes, you will regret what you spent. And no, they are no longer your friend once you leave the shop. Incredible offerings. Ridiculous high prices. If I felt they were more honest on recommendations, I would be more generous with praise. But I do feel they focus on selling you merchandise, even if it is not appropriate for you. I think the false sense of helpfulness is misleading. Be more forthcoming in your recommendations. Us fashion misfits come to you for help. Guide us and I will buy based on your fashion eye. I I loved coming into this store during my jog to Pike's Place Market. The store associate did not mind my sweaty appearance and I received no signs of judgement that I was just a passerby. Instead, she answered my questions and let me know about the pieces they feature in their Boutique. I was so happy and intrigued, I brought my husband back later that evening after my shower, and tried on some things! I walked away with a lovely pair of dark blue corduroys which appear as jeans, and some cute boots. I was treated very nicely and received first class service, not even pressuring me to leave when the store was closing :-) The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is since the prices are so high I was only able to get things on sale, and even that was a splurge. However, I understand that is to be expected from small boutiques. And in all honesty, because their items are unique and typically well-made, I don't mind spending more on them! I was glad they were having an outstanding sale, where I was able to get 50% off on my items and walk away feeling fabulous :-) I would recommend visiting the shop, and plan on investing in some Treasures for your wardrobe. read more

I love Alhambra. For the most cohesive and yet, extensive, dress selection in Seattle--this is it. They carry Graham & Spencer, Common Thread, Rozae Nichols (and, they carried this particular line before Barney's or Les Amis), Gary Graham, and many others. For my firm's holiday party, I bought a gorgeous Gary Graham black ballerina dress, finished with jewelry from the store. I would have bought the Bettye Muller heels they gave me to try on with the dress, if my feet weren't so ridiculously large as to look like stuffed sausages in size 40s. Their cashmere is expensive, and divine. Ditto that for their shoe selection--but they have some nice deals as well--I have bought two pairs of Repetto ballet flats here on sale for $50. They also carry a really great selection of Bettye Muller heels that I can't wear because my size is a 41-42, but that I LUST after (heads up: head to their Warehouse behind U Village for off season Bettye Muller for around $100). The owner is usually there--she is friendly and knows every item in her inventory. She brings me things to try on when I'm looking for event-specific items, and it's usually her pick that I end up carrying out of the store. These clothes are not cheap--but totally comparable to everyone else carrying the same lines. And, last time I went in, they gave me a $50 gift card. LOVE this store. read more

The store recently moved from the market further north on 1st in Belltown, where parking is easier. They still have a beautiful selection of clothes both dressy and casual that are unique and beautifully made in gorgeous fabrics sourced from many small makers. I have never had a worse customer service experience in my life, or have been so horribly disappointed in the quality of a piece of clothing. The clothes here are beautiful, and I enjoy supporting smaller designers and local business. I spent two hours with the owner Osiris and one of her employees trying on a number of items. I was investing in a new wardrobe for a new job and so was interested in buying a number of pieces. I ended up buying 3 dresses, 2 shirts and a pair of pants--all of which both the owner and employee saw me try on, with no recommendations to try other sizes or get alterations. One of the dresses, a Nicole Miller, had a seam that had become unstitched that the owner assured me would be an easy fix and so had sent out for alteration by her seamstress. As this total purchase was quite significant, I purchased it on layaway and paid it off after two weeks. When I picked the order up, the owner told me several times how lovely all of the items looked on me. One of the dresses was an 'Of Two Minds' silk dress with a loose-fitting blousy top and a snug pencil-skirt-like bottom. On my second day of wearing it ever, an hour before an important job interview, a coworker alerted me to the fact that the skirt had ripped open along the seam in the back of the dress. I was mortified. The silk had completely frayed, coming undone into a 6-inch long hole just below my butt, right before my interview. Upon examination, the delicateness of the silk could not hold up to the design of the dress. That afternoon, I took the dress back to the store, imagining the owner would be equally horrified that a $300-dollar dress would prove so flimsy. When I showed her the damage, she informed me that she could send it to her seamstress who could stich it back up and add a slit to prevent the fabric from strain. I pointed out to the owner that the fabric had so badly frayed that the silk was now transparent in parts surrounding the seam, and that this would not, in fact, be fixing the dress but returning it still badly damaged. She said there was nothing she could do for that--that I did this to the dress, that there was no flaw in the fabric or the design, and that it was my fault for forcing myself into the dress. When I reminded her that both she and her employee had fitted me in the dress, she said that they saw no problem at the time and it was up to me to recognize that my body didn't fit into it. The fact that the dress was a size bigger than I usually wear and fit comfortably up until it ripped open aside, I have never experienced such unabashed degrading treatment and judgment, and from the owner no less. She refused to exchange the dress for another undamaged one, insisting that it was my fault the dress fell apart after 1.5 days of wear. She contradicted herself numerous times in her efforts to belittle and insult my body, my judgment and my self-esteem. She yelled at me with other customers in the store, and when I suggested she was being unprofessional, she grabbed the same dress off the shelves and thrust it in my face, saying "Do you see any flaws? No, the fabric is perfect!" She took the damaged dress and said that if her seamstress did not see a way to fix the dress, she would believe that the fabric or dress was flawed. Three days later her employee calls to inform me that the dress had arrived back from the seamstress, and she told me that the seamstress did a beautiful job. I asked her if the owner would be in the store to have another conversation about the outcome once I saw the dress. As expected, the dress was sewn back together, but the silk was still stretched and damaged in the surrounding areas. Furthermore, the fraying meant that the seamstress had to sew the seam in diagonally down the back of the dress in order to maintain the integrity of the stitch. And the stitching was exposed and loose in many other points along the seam. The owner would not speak to me and stayed far away from the interaction, and all her employee said to my frustration was that "sometimes these things happen". Yes, sometimes $300 dresses fall apart immediately after purchase, and sometimes boutiques don't care that they have alienated both a customer and a human being in the name of their bottom line. Experiences like these are a loss for small businesses and reconfirm why people should only shop at big department stores like Nordstrom's that afford both customer protection and common courtesy. read more

I had an overall miserable experience with this boutique and the majorly snarky manager -Lauren. I purchased a shirt online from this boutique from a designer that I am familiar with. I ordered my regular size but when it arrived - it was 3 sizes too big. I sent the item back 12 hours later. But alas - - they had moved locations and had not properly updated their information. So --- this pricey shirt was now lost in limbo for a week. Happily the shirt found its way back to me. I once again sent it back again. Today - they received the returned shirt and issued me a store credit. I immediately called Lauren and advised her I had not been made aware that there were no refunds. There is no way in the world I would have ordered an expensive shirt knowing it was essentially final sale. I politely asked her for a one time courtesy refund. She said NO. Then her snarkiness went to the next level and she asked me in a condescending tone: "had I ever shopped in a small boutique before?" Please girl! Dont try that attitude with me. She then went on to advise me that I read the website more carefully. I went to law school - Im pretty sure I know how to read a website. I have screenshots of their website shopping bag page. I have screenshots of my completed order. I have screenshots of my emailed receipt. NOWHERE does it say - exchanges only. NO refunds. I advised her that I would be forced to dispute the charge with amex - she advised me to go ahead and that they have "never lost a dispute". Geez Louise - how many disputes have they had???? Then she went on to tell me she does not even know how to issues a refund. WAIT. WHAT? You run a retail store and dont know how to reverse a charge on a credit card? I asked her to clarify and she went on to say she: 1. did NOT KNOW how to and 2. did not WANT to refund me Now - the shirt I ordered is sold out in the next size down. So even if I wanted to reorder it - I could not. In fact - they sold out in all the other sizes. So - I have every confidence they will sell the returned shirt lickity split. But instead of doing things the easy way - she forced me to write this 1 star review and open a dispute with amex. Such a shame that Lauren could not admit the checkout process is ambiguous regarding their return policy. We could have avoided this entire situation. BAD costumer service and HORRIBLE attitude. This is a beautiful store with beautiful things of high quality and high fashion. I've been eyeing a necklace in here for months - and was so excited when I received a postcard in the mail telling me of the 50% off sale. I thought I would finally breakdown and treat myself! Low and behold, the owner has RAISED the prices on the pieces considerably - to the point where it's really only 25% off the original price. Furious with this "promotion," I won't be back and think that this kind of behavior is unacceptable. I would like to support the local retailers who are struggling, but don't play us! Buyer beware: Great selection, HORRIBLE customer service. My wife loved this store for it's unique selection of items & as out-of-towners who frequently visit Seattle - it was a fun stop. However after my last purchase there, we will never go back. On 12/12 I purchased a $475 leather "49 square miles" purse. Very cool -until my wife started using it. A week after she opened on XMas morning, it began getting crazy scuff marks & the leather turned a funky shade of brown. I called Alhambra on 1/5 and spoke with Osiris (real name??) and explained what was happening. At first she tried to say their 2 week return policy had expired. It took quite a few stabs at explaining this was a present which was opened on the morning of 12/25, therefore still within the 2 week return window. I emailed them pictures of the scuff marks. They came back and said it is clearly "clothing bleed". Hmmm -- well worn jeans + 3 day old purse = scuff marks due to clothing bleed???? Really? That's the best they can come up with? My wife has loads of leather accessories - this is the first time a new product has turned so quickly & a just another low point in the rapidly disintegrating customer service in small boutiques. read more

I stopped by at Alhambra while on vacation in Seattle and was impressed with the quality of cotton of some of its clothing lines. However, the clothes are expensive and not necessarily flattering despite comments made to the contrary especially by the owner, who really pushes a sale. Because the return policy noted on the sales receipt is quite strict, I doubt that I will return. When I shop, I like having the knowledge that I can return the item if it doesn't feel right when I get home. That is not an option here. read more

A greater Seattle area native, now living in Eastern Washington, I was visiting Seattle recently for a bit of rest and relaxation, a great meal and some shopping. I happened into Alhambra and was mesmerized by beautiful clothing, high quality shoes and leather goods and unique, artisan jewelry. I was so excited to find such lovely- not mass produced- things that I made a point of allotting myself enough time to look at everything, in hopes of coming home with a couple of really special items of clothing/shoes. I was surprised to find almost nothing in my size! I am tall with an athletic build and wear a size 12/large. As I looked around, there didn't appear to be anything sized larger than a 10/medium!! I expressed my surprise and disappointment to the sales person, and she told me that they really didn't carry sizes above medium because the sizing was generous! She looked me over and tried to convince me that a medium wood work fine for me! I have been successfully shopping for myself for over four decades, and I most definitely can hold up a garment and tell if it is going to fit and flatter, or not! I was a both annoyed and embarrassed by this woman's presumption that I should fit into what Alhambra decided was the appropriate size for me- be it petite, small or medium! read more
