Great food, friendly staff, and I felt like it was a wonderful introduction into the Lisbon restaurant scene, as this was the first place I tried. The Rice with shrimp and clams was delicious and enough for at least two servings.

I don't understand how this place does not have 5 stars. I originally came here in 2012 and stumbled on this restaurant. It was so good and the service was so real. Great wine selection and fresh fish. Super reasonable prices. I've had a lot of different dishes. On my last visit with my brother two weeks ago. I had octopus to start and then sole for my entree. My bother had the fisherman's stew which was amazing Dessert and champagne. All around 100 euro! So good

An unauspicious exterior hides the delights within

Fed up eating at the usual touristy eateries in Lisbon - god knows there are loads of them. We got a recommendation to visit a small restaurant in a little backstreet. From the outside Alfaia is quite inauspicious - and does nothing to prepare you for the culinary delights within. We had no trouble finding a table - although we were eating a little earlier than the locals (around 8pm) so it might be worth booking if you like to eat at local times! The staff are extremely friendly and courteous (and best of all, they let you get on and enjoy your meal, while being on hand if you require anything). The food was simply excellent - the best we had during our stay in Portugal. So good, in fact, that during our 5-day stay we ate there twice. I was particularly taken with the mushrooms and bacon (cooked in garlic and cream) for starters. Their main courses are divine (I tend to go for meat dishes, while my wife prefers fish - both were fantastic) using many locally caught/sourced produce. They have a good wine list - I can recommend the red Syrah (Casa Santos Lima 2004) as a good full-bodied wine. Also don't miss the chocolate mousse made with belgian chocolate. The meal (appetisers, main course, desserts and wine) came to around EUR60 - pretty good value. (and we got to ride the elevator tram home!)

Great seafood in a busy area in Bario Alto. Service is good and the seafood is amazing. Must try the grilled sardines and the octopus. Lot of bones in the sardine but the taste is very good. Octopus was very tender and cooked perfectly. The wine selection is good and very reasonably priced.

The restaurant is away from tourist neighbor. But I suspect its target customers are tourists…read more They play American pop music all night long which is fine with me, but if you are looking for a local experience, this may not what you expected. Pastries de Bacalhau - the crust was not brown enough. May be longer time. The stuffing was flavorful but it's more the cod taste than the flavored mash potatoes which I prefer. I actually prefer the other local restaurant I tried the night before better. Caldo Verde - The potatoe part of the soup is great. Perfect viscosity but the flavor is not. It wasn't salty enough but more importantly is the flavor of the veggies and the spicy sausage they supposed to use that makes the soup taste different. Grilled giant pawns - The flavor of the prawns is not as intense as expected and hope to be. The squid ink pasta also lacked of flavor. That's disappointing. With the prawns, they should at least use the prawn shell to make sauce for the pastas. The pasta was tasteless, didn't even use enough garlic and olive oil to flavor it up. Seafood rice - Another disappointment. They used fish, small mussels and little bit of shrimp pieces along with some bigger whole shrimps and mussels. However, the rice was lack of the true seafood flavor that made from shell fish. They also added cilantro which overwhelmed the whatever left of seafood flavor. The lemonade was not a sweet lemonade but sour. Fyi. It's not fair we just went to another restaurant in the neighborhood and everything was so much better but people should know.

Cozy, almost romantic atmosphere. And just €16 per person for all you can eat! The menu changes nightly so here were the stars for me: Creamed cod. Might not sound appetizing but this was insanely good. Not too fishy. Veggie lasagna - really great flavors and you sneak in some vegetables. All the sides: mashed potatoes were delicious, the rice is a staple, the couscous was perfect, the carrot soup made me say DAMN! The service was amazing. The two gentleman there ran an entire packed restaurant effortlessly. Helping customers with drinks, explaining the concept and each dish to every person that came in. We washed it down with a pitcher of white sangria (drinks and desserts are extra). We literally couldn't move. We walked back to the hotel instead of taking an Uber simply to walk some of it off. One of the most memorable meals I had in Lisbon.

The restaurant was quaint and intimate , with a small buffet that easily fills you up. There were many options from a beef stew to a curry, a noodle dish with bacon, salad, and other options. They even explained the options to us. I truly wish we had more time in Lisbon because I would have definitely returned to try it again as the options differ nightly. I would definitely recommend this to all in Lisbon.
