I have a few decent bagel places near my house, but I drive miles for Alpha Bagels. I have been here several times, and each time the bagels were extremely fresh and consistent! I usually get an everything bagel, which some may consider, and little light on the toppings but the taste is simply delicious. If anyone would gripe about the the amount of toppings each bagel has, nobody could ever complain about the actual size of the actual bagel!!! They have a wide variety of sandwiches and drinks as well. The employees there are typical bagel employees, young and courteous, they have all been nice; although I once saw an employee eating in the kitchen? Regardless of that, this is the best bagel place that I have found in NJ (or outside of the city), the only thing I could wish for, in terms of food, is that I just wish they had a jalpeno spread :( read more

There are two ladies in the front who are incredibly rude and unprofessional. I called twice to make sure my order would be ready on time so I wasn't late for work. Instead of apologizing, they told me to "calm down" and proceeded to talk about me in Spanish. I would have been more understanding if there was an apology on their part. We stopped by today and there is a newer older grey haired man with a goatee who works there. He has a horrible attitude. He never smiles and is quite straight faced. If he is the owner then he should reconsider his daily attitude as people pay his salary and livelihood. The bagels are very good but the helps attitude is enough for me to go elsewhere. Another thing is that they charge you a quarter to use credit cards. This is a little stingy as well. Friends and I go there for b'fast every Sat morning. Seldom have bagels but when I do they are great. They are constantly being made and sold so they are always hot. The coffee is always hot, fresh and better than diner coffee. I have had a Sloppy Joe and several Hot Pastrami sandwiches on the way home after work. Really good. Probably the best pastrami I've had in NJ. Same with the Roast Beef on the Sloppy Joe, the best. No complaints about the staff. Sat mornings are hectic and they do the best to keep up. YES. A former boss of mine used to bring these bagels into the office on a regular basis unfortunately/fortunately. When I switched jobs I started taking the hike up there myself. Like others noted here, great bagels but service is lousy and the food safety, even in COVID times, is lacking. Handling the cash and register and then getting someones bagels with the same gloves is not the best practice. I won't be back though because they refused to sell me a dozen bagels even though they clearly had that and more in the bin. They told me I had to select an assortment, not just one kind, to get a dozen. No signs posted to that effect and my husband has gotten a dozen bagels many times - makes me think they have some problem either with my gender or race. I've never actually been to the store but I've had the bagels from here and they're the best bagels hands down in the tristate area. I live in nyc and grew up in north jersey - searched everywhere for a bagel comparable to Alfa's since I've had it and honestly I can't find anything that comes close. I don't know how Afla's does it but not only is the bagel toasted and crisp on the outside - it's perfectly doughy/chewy and soft on the inside. Not to mention the size - one bagel is easily double the size of a normal bagel! Randolph, NJ is pretty synonymous with Alfa because it is so darn good. I am a self-proclaimed bagel snob and refuse to eat store bought bagels or anything less than Alfa caliber. Basically, this place delivers. The bagels are HUGE and so warm and fluffy. Anything from a plain bagel with cream cheese to a taylor ham egg and cheese on an everything is delicious and satisfying. You know this place is good when you're driving at 8 am and cars are halfway down route 10 waiting to fit into Alfa's tiny parking lot. This place is a local gem and when I tell all my out of town friends about it, they think I'm being dramatic about how good the bagels are.... until they try them themselves and fall in love too !! read more

These are seriously the BEST bagels in Morris County (and probably surrounding counties too). Have family and friends that work in the city and they say it's better than those you find in Manhattan. Super soft, big, and fluffy! Just be careful in the parking lot - it's very crowded and has limited parking spots right off of RT 10. Also, I recommend sticking to bagels or bagel related sandwiches only. We were in a pinch once for lunch and ordered a salad and a parm sandwich with fries because it was on the way. Both were above average, but they forgot to put in the fries, even after 30 mins of waiting. Based on the sign inside to check your order for all items, they probably forget items from time to time so you really should actually check (our bad). They close early so get there early. I was disappointed for a second time upon my visit to Alfa Bagels. The employees don't understand food handling procedures. They don't use wax paper or gloves to handle the bagels and directly put there fingers on the bread portion when using butter or cream cheese. I am a fan of these bagels but having grown up in Brooklyn with Bagel and Biali stores right down the street from my house, my standards are very high which keeps me from going with a full 5 stars. You will not be disappointed... The bagels are well made and tasty. My only criticism relates to the size of these bagels (people love their big bagels but to me it poses a weakness as well). Big bagels need a nice firm crust because the insides can be a little too Cake-y for my liking. As long as the crust on the outside is well formed I can overlook this. For the most part, Alfa does a fine job here. That said, there have been times when they are so busy that the bagels are pushed out too quickly. The crusts are not quite as firm/chewy. They end up being a little on the soft side for me. Again, I am talking real shades of grey here... I am a fan and go there often when needing something quick for the family. You will not be disappointed. Truthfully, if I am buying for an event or group I head over to TFAB (time for a bagel) in morris plains. They have a wider selection of smoked fish to top my bagel as well. read more

Very rude staff. We ordered pancakes and coffee much ahead of their closure time. Kept sitting for a while, I went up and checked on the pancakes. One of the lady there told me it's not ready yet. And then 10-15 mins later, they told us that they cannot serve the pancakes because their grill was closed. We told them that they should have informed us when we placed the order but their response was very rude and blamed us for ordering when their grill was closed. And we absolutely had no clue about that. Of course we don't work there:) Although they refunded the money, but the experience was appalling. Especially that particular man to whom we ordered the pancakes and paid. This is not our first time at this place. We love the bagels there, so we go there. Also, just to back up a bit here, my husband and I, we first ordered a breakfast sandwich and sub. Pancakes were ordered later (again, much before their closure time). These are hands down the best bagels I have ever had. Huge size, crispy exterior, chewy interior, and you're rarely more than a 15 minute wait away from a piping hot one if you're not picky about your flavor. I have never eaten anything else here, not even their famed taylor ham/egg/cheese sandwich, so I can't address any of that. The girls who work here do a remarkable job given how busy the place can get. And don't you DARE try to walk out without paying - they will run into the (too small) parking lot and chase you down. I'm a Friday morning bagel gal, kinda a reward for my hard work all week. Alfa is one of my favorite Friday rewards. At 6:15, when I arrive, there is only a short line. The bagels are rolling out of the oven double-time, and they go out of their way to make sure yours is warm. I get the everything bagel with veggie cream cheese. Great combo. The bagels are huge, so I normally can split them up for breakfast & lunch, but sometimes you have to go all-in based on how great these bagels are. I wish they took credit cards, as I can't always remember on Thursday night to check if I have cash on me. But, it just makes me look forward to the next Friday that much more. read more
