It's still August, so we're in snow cone season as far as I'm concerned, weather reports be damned! So, head to Howard County and stop by Alex's Snow Cones for all your frozen sweet treat needs. I got a Medium Snow Cone with Egg Custard and Mango Syrup, my partner got a Chocolate-Dipped Frozen Banana, and we grabbed an orange and marshmallow-topping snow cone for family at home. The old-timey stand has walk-up ordering next to an outdoor furniture seller, so we relaxed on some oversized Adirondack chairs while we waited for our order. I appreciated that the snow cone came in a plastic cup that made passenger-seat eating easy cleanup. Of course, this is a snow cone, not the Baltimore classic snow ball. A great, quick stop just off I-70 for when you need that taste of summer! read more

Alex's used to be my go to ice cream spot. I gave it two tries this year and did not have a great experience at either so I decided I will not go back. I have always only gotten one thing - the razzle. The first trip this year, there were hardly any topping in it at all. They had just opened for the year so I figured they were working the kinks and I gave it another try. Went yesterday and ordered a razzle with reeses peanut butter cup. I repeated reeses peanut butter cup multiple times. I finally get it and there's reeses pieces. i told the girl thats not what I ordered and she said that was the closest thing to peanut butter cups they had...that's not what i ordered nor do i like Reese's pieces. They should have told me they didn't have any and I would have ordered something else. After explaining this, she said sorry and just shut the window. Very disappointing read more

Great location to stop by after picking fruit at Larriland farm down the road. They have ice cream and snowballs here and lots of flavors to chose from. I had egg custard with marshmallow and my daughter had watermelon with marshmallow. There could have been more marshmallow topping and but it tastes good. There's plenty of tables with space to eat. read more

This is a good spot to hit up after some berry picking at larriland. I suggest the snow cones or soft serve - both delish. You might want to avoid the hand dipped - it's just Turkey hill (nothing too special). Good times. read more

Smaller facility than Jimmie Cone, but there's more parking and it's worth the wait. I had to try the Blueberry/Lemon shortbread ice cream, just to see if it really tasted as it was labeled, and yes, it tasted exactly like Blueberry/Lemon shortbread. They are located on the property of a shed/outdoor furniture business, so there were plenty of seats to relax in while eating. They also had a few tables and a separate children's play area. Definitely worth a return trip! read more

We stopped by here after having a meal in the area, and ordered a couple of cone ice cream - one vanilla, and one a swirl. They were both okay, with the cones being a little on the stale end. I did kick myself as I should have researched a bit more and check out their egg custard - it looked interesting, and it seems to be a favorite. Here is some quality soft serve and ice cream that everyone can enjoy. I love a good soft serve twist and supporting a spot right down the road from where I grew up. They have a great variety of scoop flavors, one of my favorites being the Red Devil's Cake! The staff here are super friendly and have well priced ice cream for the whole family. You can just tell when it's homemade! I suggest you make a day of it if you're not from the area. We went to Sunflowers if Lisbon before (which was beautiful), and asked the attendant where to get good ice cream since the on-hand creamery wasn't available. She suggested Alex's. My wife, kids and I were visiting family outside of Baltimore and were camping in Woodbine when we googled for local ice cream spots. Alex's popped up with a full 5 star rating, and when I saw 'good ice cream' and 'playground' it was settled. We drove over and got some ice cream, I forget the brand they carry for hard ice cream but I got a choc peanut butter and it rocked. Waffle cone, of course. Kids and wife enjoyed theirs as well, all at a very fair price. Seating was fine, I think four or five tables, but it was empty when we were there so even 1 table would have been fine. But then the kicker: behind the shop is a neat little playground with ADK chairs surrounding. The playground is even fenced in with an always-open entrance so the kids can come in and out through one spot, which is good. We loved the ice cream, the good prices, and the playground. I'd go back in a heartbeat and we definitely will the next time we are down that way. read more

Alex's is a nice spot to get some ice cream or a snowball. The soft serve vanilla is good, and pairs well with orange sherbet, if you like creamsicles. On a second visit, I tried a snowball, pina colada and mango, which was pretty decent. They have other things that they do, combinations of snowballs and ice cream, or ice cream and toppings (think Dairy Queen Blizzards), which I haven't tried. Some sound appealing, and others I'm wary to try. I don't consider them to be a five-star place because they're selling Turkey Hill ice cream, rather than making their own, and because after frequenting One Sweet Moment in Baltimore practically every spring, summer, and fall day in the past five years, I'm a snowball snob. But this is a nice popsicle stand, even if objectively they charge too much for a cash-only establishment. read more

This place is AWESOME they have to s of selections, even hot dogs and chips. Its cost is alittle higher than I would like to see but this place offers karaoke a playground comfortable place to sit with napkins and covered areas where you can get out of the Sun. It only has a portapotty across the way and that is the only reason i can see for less than 5 stars. The staff are extremely pleasant and helpful. It is a place you bring your kids to get the wiggles out while you eat pizza and then you go get dessert and everyone can go home in a food coma. I ordered the 'Strawberry Cheesecake' ice cream flavor, and it came like 3 seconds after my order! LOL :) It was delicious and creamy! The girl with blonde hair added a few real strawberries for a nice touch. The cone was like the ones you get at the supermarket but they were decent.
