Let me preface this by saying that I have been going to another tailor in Ventura for the last 5 years.
I thought they were the best and that kept me satisfied. It wasn't until I met Margarita that I realized
there was other talent in the neighboring city that far exceeded what I had been used to.
I will continue to use my Ventura tailor when I can, but for the unforeseeable future, Margarita (Alexis bridal)
will be my go to tailor. Also, I didn't want to write a review based off of one experience. I wanted to
write one after going there a few times. I've been there at least 4 times since December and will continue
to do so. They've found a loyal customer.
I met her through the Oxnard Suit Outlet, when one night I had purchased a suit at the last minute.
The pants needed alteration to reflect a modern/vintage fit as well as the coat.
She measured me and asked me not only what I wanted but also what I didn't want.
My response was "more like Mad Men, less like 90's dads suits that come off the rack."
When I asked her how long it would take, (I was expecting something like maybe a week and half...
FORGET THAT!) she told me it would be ready by Thursday. She wanted me to come in, try it, and if I was unhappy
about it, they would have it finished by Friday... Keep in mind, I came in on a Monday.
Now, I do not recommend that you do things last minute. Its not only stressful on you as a customer but it is
also stressful to the people who want to give you the product you want.
It just so happened that my request was easy enough to fulfill.
When I went in on that Thursday to try on my suit, it fit perfectly! I took it home that night and wore it
around my house just because I was so STOKED! Yes, that's cheesy I know, but I honestly felt like a kid
who just got new clothes for the first day of school!
I've also brought her jeans to alter which she does perfectly. Since I am a bigger dude, clothes that are in my size are wonky and baggy.
Just because I buy my clothes that way does not mean I want to wear my clothes that way. I want my clothing
to be unique to my body and to my liking.
She's done alterations based on my measurements that she's taken inside the store and she's done alterations based
on a favorite pair of jeans that fit me like a glove. She did so well in those two aspects.
I don't know much about her wedding side of the business but I have been in there when bridal parties were trying on dresses
or when brides were coming in to try on gowns.
I've seen one bride in particular telling her how her bridesmaids were picky, what dresses THEY wanted to wear, and how it was becoming difficult to navigate through the wedding planning process.
Her advice was to stop caring so much about what THEY wanted and be firm in what SHE wanted... It is her wedding and trying to cater to
everybody else but herself is what was going to drive her crazy and make the whole process negative. Seeing that bride become more empowered really solidified my belief in the service that Margarita offers.
What I love about her approach to her business is that she puts an emphasis on creating relationships
with the people that choose to do business with her.
If something is not right, she wants you to tell her so that she knows what to expect from you in the future.
She wants her work to speak for its self so that you keep coming back.
Since I've been a customer, I don't think she's missed a stepped, and at this rate, I don't think she will.
Please, remember to allow yourself time to get things done. If you are the type of person to do things at the last minute
and expect somebody to move mountains for you... well, good luck in life (especially you, wedding people. Blame "Bridezilla" and "Say Yes to the Dress" for my view on this. Yes, I actually kind of like those two shows. The shit storms are entertaining). You have nobody to blame but yourself.
If you give someone enough time, they will give you their best work.
I cant recommend this place enough.
p.s. prices vary, depending on what you want, but they do have a set price listing of what types of alterations cost what. I believe their prices are fair, competitive, and maybe a bit better than most places considering how great their service is. read more
