My daughter has been dancing here for over 10 years and we loved it right from the start! Gail and the entire staff are wonderful talented group of people! My daughter was able to take what she learned from her Brooklyn Dance Center Family and use it to get into Bay Academy for dance, when she went to Edward R Murrow HS the dance teacher was highly impressed at her dancing skills. Using the skills she learned at The Brooklyn Dance Center she was able to secure a spot on the Brooklyn Cyclones Dance Team for the last three years. The Brooklyn Dance Center has given her the opportunity not just to dance in their annual Christmas show and their amazing end of the year recital but she was able to take part in outside shows with the Brooklyn Dance Center Ensemble. I cant recommend this studio enough, it really is her home away from home and she loves every minute she spends there!

Sound System and Faze 4 were so flexible with us and our new plan. They were the most accommodating vendor we dealt with. One of the best parts of our scaled down wedding was Jen beautifully singing our wedding song. She is such a talented singer, her voice alone helped create an amazing atmosphere. I've spent the past 3 years in a north Williamsburg rehearsal room that could easily be mistaken…read morefor a closet. Moving from that location to Savaria Studios 2.0 has been life-changing, if you allow me to get just a little hyperbolic. I'm a drummer. My kind needs space to practice. I had a 4.5" by 4.5" room in which to practice in my previous location. My drums - not even a full set - touched two of the walls and my seat touched the third. Now I have an 8" by 14" room I share with a friend. I can walk around my set, now with all my toms and cymbals mounted. That means I can also tune my drums. I'm a little bummed (sorry, Jeff) that I have to split the time in the spot instead of just having it all to myself 24/7, but that's the nature and the business of rehearsal rooms in NYC. I accept this. What's important is that I have space - essentially double the space but half the time - for only about $70 more than I was paying for my closet. Beyond the size and price, one of the draws to Savaria is the location in the old Pfizer building. It's hard not to feel like you're in on something. So many New Yorkers, so overwhelmed by each other and each other's access to every private space they claim, seek this uniqueness, this privacy, this frontier, in their quiet speakeasies and undisclosed location parties. Years from now the Pfizer building will be a different place. The neighborhood will develop around it. For now it feels good to know I'll be able to gloat in 5 to 10 years about the way things were here and how I was there when it happened. My only complaint about the space is sound leaking in through the walls and air vents. The bands on my left and right play so loud I can't even hear my own drums over them at times. This is partly because the space is constructed into an old office in the Finance Department of Pfizer Inc. It wasn't meant for anything louder than pencil pushing. The other reason is in the soundproofing, which seems to be merely carpet padding adhered to the walls. Tamas, the owner promised this would improved in time. I try to remind myself that Savaria, even in incarnation 2.0, is a startup, like the other tenants in the building. After being wiped out in Gowanus by Sandy last year, Tamas started all over again here. I imagine the experience here has been a bit life-changing for him as well. I recognize getting everything like the soundproofing in order may take some time. I'll be patient.

There was an author/ speaker Lara Gabrielle who has recent publication of her book on the silent screen actress Marion Davies. ( who was famous also for being the girlfriend of William Randolph Hearst. Marion was a magnificent actress and comedian. Lara did a wonderful and entertaining lecture before showing two silent movies one of which was Marion's. Even took questions from the audience. "Beverly of Graustark " Marion has to pose as her male cousin the Prince of Graustark In 1926... This was during the peak of her fame! There was a gentleman who accompanied the film by piano. How delightful!! A wonderful venue. Comfy seats. Great staff!!! What a wonderful time!!.

DCINY has abused their power over the individuals who paid to participate. It is easy to act kind…read morewhen all is well but, how organizations respond in time of crisis and need shows you who they truly are. DCINY has shown their true colours and I will never participate or support any event and I hope you all join me doing the same. I am hurt by the treatment from DCINY. We signed a contract to participate in Total Vocal 2020 that stipulates we would receive a FULL refund upon event cancellation. The event was cancelled, it was communicated to all coordinators/directors, through all social media channels and their own site. DCINY then declined refunds. They ignored all the voices speaking up asking for what belongs to us. They announced the show was rescheduled to March 2021 and our funds would transfer but would not be charged the difference in cost. This is an annual show held in March which means it's not the same event but a new one, otherwise why would there be a cost difference at all? Our directors again requested our refunds and DCINY replied with inappropriate and offensive language. They held our funds hostage, offered 3 equally unacceptable options and used bullying tactics which resulted in us feeling forced to choose and receive only 50% of OUR money. We're all going through a difficult time and the last thing we want to do is spend time fighting when we should be focusing on staying healthy and safe. Please consider supporting organizations that have shown they deserve it.

I'm still coming down from the truly life-changing experience DCINY facilitated for me this past…read moreMonday night. WOW!! I first learned of DCINY because of their annual performances of the works of Welsh composer Sir Karl Jenkins. I've been a HUGE fan of Sir Jenkins' work since I was quite young, and have attended DCINY's concert of Karl Jenkins' music nearly every year since I first learned about it in 2010. This year, when I saw the program included one of my favorite works of his (Songs Of Sanctuary), I knew I had to find a way to be a part of it. The staff at DCINY was incredibly helpful and kind throughout every step of the process, and thanks to them I was able to make my Carnegie Hall debut singing one of my favorite pieces from my very favorite contemporary composer, and with a small solo to boot! I savored every moment of instruction under the baton of the masterful conductor, Dr. Jonathan Griffith...and I teared up on more than one occasion during the rehearsal process, overcome with emotion and gratitude at the opportunity to actually perform live in one of the most important, historic performance venues in the world the music I'd been dreaming of performing for years. It was such a pleasure to meet some of the wonderful people who made it all happen--including Sir Jenkins himself!--at the lovely reception after the performance as well. I don't say things like this lightly, but I will never forget this incredible experience. As both a patron and a performer, DCINY has a fan in me for life! =D
