    Millenium Theater
    Polina S.

The Russian theater tradition has always been considered one of the great theater traditions in the world, akin to that of England - though with somewhat more of a language barrier. The Millennium Theater is a great oasis of Russian culture in New York. Some of the great Russian theater troupes bring their plays here. You can also catch some of the old pop stars and some of the new music acts of Russia, and great Russian comedy. All entertainment is in Russian - there's no translation. Prices vary from $20 to upwards of $100 for a ticket, depending on the act. The downside of the venue is that the Millennium Theater is located above a Russian restaurant/club. This means that often, during the performances, you can feel the beat from the rowdy dance music downstairs through the floor. This can be quite distracting. Another annoying feature is the proliferation of advertising on the walls and even on the sides of the stage, for anything from dental clinics to bookstores.

I saw the Gregory Popovich pet theater show here and thought the theater was very nice. The performance by Popovich and his cats and dogs was very impressive.

Good but not great theater. It's upper floor theater is definitely serves the purpose but the lower theater is not very accommodating.

Normally, that would be a red flag as that means I would be largely ignored throughout the night. Instead, multiple servers came to check on me regularly, chatting with me, giving me recommendations on what is good to eat, and so on. No, I have never tried Georgian cuisine before. Uzbek and Russian do not count. This cuisine is similar to both but it has its own unique characteristics. The soup I got first is hearty with good spice. It comes with two pieces of bread which help clean up the rest of it. This is something I would appreciate more if it were colder outside. Definitely not something for the summer months. The Chanakhi, or lamb stew, is a little disappointing. Very tomato heavy, I could hardly taste the lamb. The aromatics completely overpower the whole stew. Even the side bread has no taste because of the heavy tomato aroma. Khachapuri, a popular cheese bread from Georgia, is insane. Cheese, egg, butter, swirl it up and dip. More restaurants are starting to catch onto this addictively fattening dish, but this one does a nice job with it. The portion is a little small, but since it was just me, I was able to eat most of it before tapping out since the rest was slop on a plate. -- Would I come back? Probably not so fast. Nargis, an Uzbek restaurant up the road, does a better job for a better price point. Good service is nice, but if the food is okay, I feel no need to run back, especially since this is not a cuisine I would run back for anyway. I am happy I tried it, now I can continue on with my day.

I believe that BBT is one of the best schools in New York with the professionalism of all the teachers. The school has various choreographic programs for both children and adults. In addition to teaching ethics and choreography for children, the school also works with city programs for adults, which allows them to demonstrate the high level of skill of the teaching staff of the BBT. We went on a Saturday in February around 7pm and it was crowded. Like yelling-across-the-table crowded. Plastic disposable cups, paper napkins, a big water pitcher just sitting on the table. Very casual. Very no nonsense. Honestly, you just lean into it. We started with the fried calamari and got both the medium and hot marinara sauces. The sauce is really the star. Spicy, garlicky, so good in the best way. We also ordered baked clams, which were delicious and somehow the only thing I managed to take a picture of before digging in. That never happens. My father-in-law had the scungilli over linguini and said it was great. I had linguini with clam sauce and it was exactly what I wanted. It was not "too soupy" if that makes sense lol. Simple, briny, comforting. My husband got chicken parm with linguini and completely cleaned his plate. Our waitress was friendly, just very busy because the place was packed. You can tell they're used to the chaos. There's a parking garage right across the street which makes life easier. And it's right by the water, which makes me want to go back in the summer and walk around and really enjoy the area. If you're okay with loud and very casual, this is your spot. Good food, big portions, no fuss. I'd definitely go back!
