I lost a lot a few years ago due to chronic health issues one of which affected my nervous system for years. In the past being unaware, I would try to go to dance but brain issues prevented me from being fully present in it, and finally I gave up when it got worse. As I found out my issues, I began healing and decided to return to dancing as a way to continue that. And now, as my body has started to regained health I can finally enjoy it. Salsa salsa gave me a place to go after I lost a lot. It gave me friends and a community and such wonderful, kind instructors that unknowingly are helping me heal. Very grateful for it.

The dance studio is small, but well kept with clean bathrooms, a clear entrance way and space to maneuver. The studio has nice wooden floors and large mirrors, always convenient for practicing dance and rehearsing a choreographed piece. I did take off one star because the space is quite small and when the room gets full it's difficult to "let loose" and branch out as a dancer. I found that it can feel cramped with upwards of 12 adults in the room. Nonetheless, this is NYC and space is hard to come by anywhere! All in all, a conveniently located, well maintained studio that is perfect for small dance classes and workshops.

I signed up for a 45 minute session, and my instructor, Mimi Hilarie cancelled on me the morning off. When I rescheduled, I walked into the school with the lights off behind the glass for check in and instead was surrounded by kids and teenagers running the place. With all respect to the teenagers and students holding down the fort, the experience is stressful and awful for a new student not knowing where to go. I was late to my lesson despite being there early because no room was listed in the confirmation email and there was no way of checking when you get there. I had to flag one of the student that was buzzing people in to help.

Do not send your children to this school. They have no actual desire to teach your children how to…read moredance; they just basically babysit them for 45 minutes and let them run amuck. You'll also find yourself needing to repurchase ballet and tap shoes because they somehow go missing in that time.

I really gave it my all over at that studio but no matter how hard I tried, I was never encouraged by Miss Sofian in anyway. During that period, she taught no choreography whatsoever except to a group that she hand-picked from students that came to her classes. She had a very good warm-up but I never understood that I was not being taught how to dance to her music. I just remember her now as a very cruel teacher and person. I now have taught a class for the past six years and would never treat any of my students is I was treated by her. I am encouraging to everyone, kind and patient.

I'd like to focus on what I've seen from the students however . The students of Triple Essence Dance Studio are all very welcoming , seeing students from as young as 3 old build good social skills and support each other all the way to the teenagers who come in early and stay later to help newer students and lead by example by helping them overcome the challenges in training that they went through when first starting all point towards the amazing culture Triple Essence Dance Studio has created . Lastly I'd like to point out how great they are at age appropriate dances. As someone who's seen many dance recitals over the last 30 years I must say I really appreciate the type of dancing that is taught .
