She progresses each year with each class she takes, leveling up her skill sets and increasing her poise and confidence both on stage (in the recital performances each year) and off. She currently takes 4 different classes each week and looks forward to seeing the friends she continues to make here. In addition to Intro to Dance, my daughter has taken Tumbling, Tap and Jazz, Hip-Hop, Ballet and now Contemporary. My son recently started taking Tumbling and I love that he is able to focus his abundant energy while learning how to take instruction and act within a structured environment. I love that the owners focus on bringing in dance teachers who are not only knowledgeable but also great teachers and great with kids. Plus, the prices are reasonable and accommodating for families taking multiple classes. Nana and Fred have been great: they have been a part of the local neighborhoods for decades as teachers and owners of this dance school, have an extensive record not only as dancers on Broadway but also as teachers (totally different skill sets) and I appreciate their philosophy of hiring good *teachers,* not just good/reputable dancers. It is amazing to see former students return to enroll their own children, and to hear stories of their past comaraderies and experiences. As a parent, I myself look forward to the welcoming community of neighborhood parents that I've found here, which is not always easy to find amidst everyone's established lives and busy schedules. I happened upon a show being done by Brown Girls Burlesque and was entertained and interested immediately. When I saw they were offering a six week class I was so there. I learned history, modern twists and about costuming. OK, I was at first traumatized at the idea of having to make a costume. I can't sew! They organized a field trip to NY's fashion district and now walking fabric and trimming stores is a new addiction. So, I warn you. Taking their class IS going to make you a burlesque addict. I took some other classes which definitely jumpstarted me (shout out to Howlin' Vic!). But when I found out BGB was offering their "Peeling Into Burlesque" class, I was ready to go to the next level. We learned how to take an idea and create a piece in a short time which seemed impossible at the beginning but was completely doable under the training and guidance of the ladies of BGB. I learned ins and outs of costume design (I'm still learning!), conceptualizing pieces, physical expression (it's not just about dancing!), and putting together a show. I couldn't recommend this class more. It helped me break through personal walls and barriers and now I'm even more in love with burlesque. It was an amazing opportunity to learn from and work with really talented women and am thankful for the experience.

If you go to competition they will ask you pay few hundred dollar for each dance costume, if you join a competition they require 4 dance, you need to pay more than 1 thousand only for the clothes. Hotel fee and application fee, a lot! all about the money! Some parties are holding in the school are mandatory you need to go. If you choose not to go, they will charge you few hundred dollar! I attended a Friday night session of BollyX dance class for free as part of a Brooklyn Fit series…read more I'm a dancer at heart but mostly in the salsa genre where I can "shake what my mama gave me" without hesitation. Though I was new to the Bollywood style of dancing, I loved every minute of class! It was a non-stop, head-to-toe workout, that left you wanting more even if you were wiped out. The instructor was high energy and the playlist was so fun. We danced about 5-6 songs and were instructed to follow our teacher's steps. Warning to those who haven't been to a dance class, the steps aren't broken down into segments. It's more of a watch and get right into the steps all at once. The class ended with a 5 minute ab series in sync with the music and a cool down. Classes are typically $15 for a drop in and they have a full schedule of classes ranging from ballet to Africand dance. I'll definitely be back for more!

I have not taken a dance class with this studio per se, but have taken classes here with an instructor who rents the space. The dance studio is small, but well kept with clean bathrooms, a clear entrance way and space to maneuver. The studio has nice wooden floors and large mirrors, always convenient for practicing dance and rehearsing a choreographed piece. I did take off one star because the space is quite small and when the room gets full it's difficult to "let loose" and branch out as a dancer. I found that it can feel cramped with upwards of 12 adults in the room. Nonetheless, this is NYC and space is hard to come by anywhere! All in all, a conveniently located, well maintained studio that is perfect for small dance classes and workshops.

Well, thanks to both her private instructor at BMS as well as her orchestral group her development has accelerated faster than even we expected. She's since participated in a recital trip to Paris and had the most amazing group learning experience. The teachers and faculty are becoming like family and this is probably the biggest factor in our daughter's learning process. She looks forward to attending lessons, and that right there is the gamechanger. Of course none of this would matter if the instructors weren't top tier musicians themselves, but they are, so I am comfortable knowing that their skills and talent are rubbing off on our 9 year-old girl. I personally cannot wait for my five year-old piano playing son to begin attending the school and unlocking his full potential. If you have a child that you want to introduce to the musical arts, I can't think of a better home for music than the Brooklyn Music School.
