I live in Chicago now but have a home in Florida. A few weeks before Christmas i lost a crown and needed to get it replaced but didn't have time to get it done in Chicago because I was headed to Florida for the holiday. I called Alexander Dental and explained the situation. Dr. Alexander explained they had a digital scanner that could scan the surface of the tooth area and upload the file for a the tooth to be made and this would greatly decrease the time between the first visit and the second visit so it could all be done while i was in Florida. True to his word he was able to scan the tooth on Thursday and by the following Wednesday, just two days before Christmas I had the the new tooth and a cleaning. His office staff (lead by his his lovely and attractive wife) were very helpful and friendly. Dr Alexander was attentive even though he was very busy (everyone getting perfect teeth for their Christmas photos i guess) and made sure I understood exactly what was going on and answered all my questions. The office is modern and professional and I couldn't have been happier. He is also a former marine and since my son is in the Navy that doesn't hurt. I would strongly recommend staying away from Alexander Dental. I recently went to Alexander Dental for a treatment plan that totaled approximately $5,000. I still have outstanding work that needs to be completed, including a cleaning and crown replacement, and now one of the teeth they worked on is causing severe pain. At my initial appointment, they collected payment and told me they could complete all of the planned work in a single visit. Although I was surprised, I agreed. After completing work on two teeth, they instructed me to take a one-hour break. The break wasn't long enough to go home, and I couldn't eat because of the dental work, so I waited in my car. When I returned, they numbed me again, checked my mouth, and then asked if I could reschedule the rest of the treatment. When I tried to reschedule, they attempted to push the appointment out another two weeks despite the fact that I was already experiencing significant pain. I insisted on being seen sooner and was able to get an appointment the following week. At that appointment, they still weren't able to complete all the fillings as planned. Only part of the work was finished, requiring me to return for a third visit and miss even more work. While I was frustrated, I tried to be understanding. Now I've received an additional invoice for more than $500. When I contacted the office to resolve the issue, I was told that I had said my "card didn't work" and that I would call back. That never happened. What I actually said was that I didn't have any more time to spend waiting in the office because I needed to get back to work, and that they should call me to explain why there was an outstanding balance after they had already collected payment upfront. The billing process was confusing from the beginning. If staff are attempting to collect payment, they should be able to explain account balances and charges instead of requiring patients to wait for a treatment coordinator. They should also ensure that treatment estimates accurately reflect the work being performed and schedule patients appropriately if they cannot complete the procedures as promised. I am not someone who complains without offering solutions. This office could significantly improve the patient experience by implementing a few basic policies and procedures: Confirm before treatment whether all scheduled procedures can realistically be completed during the appointment. Provide explanations whenever treatment plans, timelines, or costs change especially at check in. Train front-desk and checkout staff to explain balances and payment discrepancies before requesting additional payment rather than having to wait for the treatment coordinator post appointment. Establish a policy that patients experiencing pain receive priority scheduling when follow-up treatment is needed, specifically when the dentist reschedules. Conduct a final billing review before collecting large upfront payments to reduce unexpected charges later. After three appointments, missed work, ongoing dental issues, severe pain, and now unexpected additional charges, I am extremely disappointed with my experience. Patients deserve transparency, accurate scheduling, and clear communication regarding both treatment and billing. read more

My one year old and I had the best experience at Alexander Dental. It was his first appointment and I was really nervous that he wouldn't sit still but everyone was so patient, kind and gentle with him. He was laughing and smiling the whole appointment and even got to pick a toy out of the treasure chest before we left. The atmosphere is incredibly calm and inviting as well. Unethical, Coercive, and Harmful Experience I had a terrible experience at Alexander Dental, where my legitimate health concerns were dismissed entirely. I was pressured into getting an X-ray despite my objections, and I felt coerced and gaslit throughout the entire process. My boundaries were disregarded, and I was treated as if I were mentally unstable. Never have I experienced such unethical behavior, HIPAA violations, and outright disrespect in a medical setting. I have a veneer crown that fell off while flossing. I believed it needed to be reattached, but I was advised that an X-ray was required. I explained that I was undergoing a heavy metal detox protocol and expressed concern about the risks of taking X-rays during that time. Heavy metal detoxes can be dangerous, and exposing myself to X-rays while detoxing could mobilize toxins, causing severe inflammation and neurological symptoms. Doctors knowledgeable in detox protocols advise against unnecessary exposures during this process, which is why I requested to wait. Despite my valid health concerns, my request was ignored. Unfortunately, I was 100% correct to err on the side of caution; the ramifications were severe. To further pressure me, the dentist brought in another staff member who explained that one X-ray was equivalent to the radiation from two bananas. This was condescending and utterly irrelevant to my situation. I agreed to just one X-ray, but I was ultimately coerced into having four X-rays to reattach a perfectly good crown. I have never been so humiliated in my life, especially since I had clearly expressed my desire to wait until after my detox was complete. What happened to the principle of "First, Do No Harm"? The result of their coercion was a severe Herxheimer reaction, the worst I've ever experienced. My entire body ached, and I had brain fog that lasted for two days, making it nearly impossible to function. I am still recovering from this unnecessary trauma. Additionally, the young female dentist altered my bite, which led to me biting down on my right cheek while eating, causing a painful sore that probably will get worse. I was treated like I was on trial simply for requesting to wait on the X-rays. The dentist glared at me and said, "I read your medical records," which was a blatant HIPAA violation. My medical records were released without my consent, and this breach, combined with the coercive tactics used, left me feeling completely disrespected and unsafe. I am currently pursuing my Master's Degree in Integrative and Functional Nutrition, where we focus on identifying the root causes of disease and preventing chronic illnesses. Despite my education and valid concerns, I was treated as though I were mentally incompetent. The experience violated my autonomy as a patient, which is a fundamental right in healthcare. I am requesting an immediate investigation into this matter to prevent similar treatment issues from affecting future patients. The young dentist involved in this should be held accountable, as her actions were both unethical and harmful. I firmly believe that she needs to lose her license to practice medicine so that no other patient will be subjected to this kind of behavior. I am compiling evidence for an investigation with the Department of Veterans Affairs, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office for Civil Rights (OCR), and any other appropriate offices. This investigation will focus on how my medical records were released without my consent, the coercive and unethical behavior I experienced, and the lasting harm caused by this visit. read more

Make sure to confirm they are in your network! I gave them my insurance info and was told yes after asking if they accepted it. Unfortunately the employee who took my insurance info and made the appointment didn't think it was important to let me know they were out of network. I was charged over $800 for cleaning and X-rays. I've never come across a dentist out of network and I would not have visited this office if they gave me the courtesy of letting me know it would cost double. Understand they are under no obligation to let me know but this should be common sense and the best business practice! read more

Great experience First Time. I was pleased with everyone and everything that concerns me. Excellent set up, wonderful friendly staff and I made friends. The office there said they took my insurance which they did however did not check to make sure they were in my network and charged an excessive amount for the four of us to begin with and then sent bills for even more after the fact. We don't have much money and couldn't eat for a couple of days because I had to pay that so I wouldn't get sent to collections and they could have cared less about us not having the money or losing 4 patients over this. read more

Dr Alexander was rude. In 3 years he saw me personally once and scolded me for finding flem on a tooth saying out loud for all to hear "You need to clean your teeth better". I was mortified! I did rush that morning running late and brushed quickly. But I do clean my teeth well as indicated by my history - no cavities! Also they gave me an estimate for shaving down a tooth and putting on a veneer for $10,000. I got a price from another dentist for $5000. I'm done with Alexander Dental. Other Dentists were good. I don't have much to say other than they were awesome and thorough. If you are a new patient however plan on a 2 hour visit again they are extremely detailed which takes a minute, but they keep you comfortable. I expect they cater to dental cowards well. read more

This was our first visit to Alexander Dental. When your kiddos finish their appointments with smiles, you're at the right dentist. We weren't pressured in any way for unnecessary exams. We received an orthodontic consultation referral that we knew was coming. The kiddos have already asked when they can go back. Outstanding front desk service with an easy check in. The hygienists were ready for the kiddos, so we weren't waiting (and increasing anxiety!), which made this mom very happy! read more

Suuuuuuuuuper amazing !!!!! I went to another dental office here in St. Augustine and I have never experienced such bad customer service before so you can only imagine, I was already on edge. So fast forward to making an appointment with Alexander office , the ladies greeted me in with a positive attitude. Kathy, my hygienist was amazing and Chanelle (I hope I'm spelling it close enough) were so good to me! Made me feel comfortable , I told them how much I already disliked the dentist, lol, and they were so patient with me and really made me feel comfortable! When I met Alexander he was cool, down to earth and asked about me. Like ME, not my teeth. I'm all about building relationships & these people did that ! I also expressed my concern as far as my finances, etc. and even with my insurance, they helped me tremendously, IN JUST ONE VISIT! They explained everything to me and made sure to find out everything before we moved forward (I personally like to know the info and details before). Dr Awad is very gentle and caring. My hygienist Diana did an amazing job. Alexander Dental is welcoming and state of the art. They have a monthly dental plan that is very affordable. Diana was so thoughtful that she offered me a blanket when I was cold. They didn't try to sell me on products or services. Finally an honest and competent dental office. I always have a hard time finding a dentist I feel comfortable going to. I had my appointment on a Sat morning which by the way is amazing for a person with 4 kids. The young lady at the front desk who said she was filling in for the day was very nice. Both the dental tech and doctor were amazing. They explained every thing well and told me things I never knew in 35 years!! I will defiantly be staying with this office and possibly bringing my kids over to them in the near future. I've been a patient of Alexander Dental since I arrived in Florida and loved the care I received, especially from Diana, my hygienist. As a result, I recommended them to my partner when he was experiencing severe tooth pain. And there the good experience ended. I knew to ask if they accepted his insurance - they said yes; but they didn't add the fact that they aren't in his network, so his bills will likely not be paid by the insurance provider. They always say, you get the answers to the question you ask, but I would expect the provider to also add whether or not they are in network - especially since they know - and allow the patient to make a determination if they want to continue or find a different provider in network. My partner began treatment and only after the treatment was initiated and we were discussing the extremely expensive costs did they mention that their periodontist was not yet certified. My partner had already begun the process, so he decided to stay with them and pay the full price asked. We asked if this is inclusive and they said yes. Only later did they explain that the price was inclusive of one set of treatments, but that the treatment to remedy the sore tooth would incur additional charges. Oh, and they still haven't fixed the original problem with the tooth pain! I am now extremely sorry that I recommended this dentist to my partner based on my previous excellent experiences. read more

My baby tooth that was loose, he knocked decently hard on it not once not twice but several different times both ways! Now it's in a ton of pain 10x more pain 100% because of him. On top of that it was double the price of a place I thought was already extremely expensive. Unless you like implants that are extremely expensive, go through them. read more

Beware! I should have read the review from November 2021. Long story made short, I was supposed to have one crown replaced with same day service. One crown turned in to two for which I would have to schedule return appointments. WHAT I AM NOT HAPPY WITH: Appointments for my return visit were set up before I left the office at times that were mutually agreed upon and confirmed in a text. A few days later I get a text confirming my NEW appointment time. WHAT??? When I called the office to ask what this was about, the receptionist, said "Oh, yea, I had a note to reach out to you". How do you reschedule an appointment for someone with out checking with them first??? To her credit the receptionist tried to reschedule at a time I could make it but was unable to find an opening so I left a message for the office manager. She was able to reschedule me but still did not seem to grasp the concept of calling someone before you reschedule them rather than moving the schedule around without calling first. Dr. Alexander, it is YOUR NAME on the business and the lack of training of your front office staff is going to cost you patients, if it hasn't already. read more

Ever looked forward to going to the dentist? I know it sounds crazy but after visiting this dentist officer you will change your mind. I've been a patient fo nearly a year now and even started bringing my two young children after the awesome service I receive. The entire staff from the moment you walk through the door until the moment you walk out are friendly, professional, and courteous. Jessica even took the time to make my children feel at home when they came in for the first time and wanted to play with the Dentist Barbie and "Frozen" characters that they had in the office. In the past, I've had emergencies come about where I was unable to keep my appointmen, not one time did they make me feel bad about having to cancel and they even gave me a grace on the missed appointment fee.
