My husband and I had just started our vacation when, during lunch, the veneer on a front tooth unexpectedly popped off. Needless to say, I was a little stressed. I called 1st City Dental, and they were able to get me in right away. From the moment I arrived, the entire experience was exceptional. The front office staff was welcoming, efficient, and had me checked in quickly. The hygienist was incredibly kind, professional, and attentive in taking the x-rays. After performing a thorough examination, Dr. Davis was able to successfully reattach my veneer. She also identified an area that should be evaluated further by my dentist back home, which I greatly appreciated. Rather than simply addressing the immediate issue, she took the time to provide a comprehensive assessment and ensure I understood her recommendations. What impressed me most was Dr. Davis's demeanor, attention to detail, and genuine concern for my comfort and care. Having dealt with my share of dental issues over the years, I have worked with many dental professionals, and Dr. Davis stands out among the best. I was in need of same day treatment, as part of my tooth had broken off. Previous dentist had told me I needed crown replaced on the tooth next to broken tooth, but they could not do the work on it until they looked at it. I called First City Dental and the front desk staff was amazing. They got me in today, after calling them this morning. The dentist filled my tooth and informed me my crown was fine! Minimal charge with insurance! Dental assistant was great-Aisha. Dentist was also great!! She was gentle, friendly and professional! I highly recommend this dental office! read more

I would NOT recommend this dentist's office. I was told I needed a two-part "regular cleaning," which I've never had elsewhere, and it was later billed under a different code than what I was told--leaving me with unexpected charges. When I called to ask about it, the front desk laughed at me. The office refused to take responsibility, saying the employee who originally provided the information no longer works there. I also had 1 filling done, which my new dentist let me know was poorly done. On top of that, I saw 2 dogs inside the office during visits without service vests, which didn't seem sanitary for a healthcare setting (if they were legitimate service animals, I understand). I previously saw Dr. Rex Painter in his Palatka Island Dentist office for a dental implant. This time I needed crowns on two back teeth that were next to each other. Dr. Painter was able to accommodate my schedule & see me last month in his St. Augustine office. He has the CEREC 3D printer that allows him to manufacture ceramic crowns while you wait. He worked on one tooth at a time & his trained dental technician Cory used an intraoral camera to design the crown that was double checked by Dr. Painter. The tooth was then created by the CEREC printer, the fit & bite were checked & Cory glazed the tooth making it cosmetically beautiful. It was bonded in place then the procedure repeated with the other tooth. I was there less than 4 hours & happy I didn't have to wait for a dental lab to make the crowns & have to return 2-3 weeks later to get them placed. In addition, I was experiencing a headache & Dr. Painter, who is trained in both dental surgery and medicine, diagnosed a sinus infection & showed me the infection on x-rays. He prescribed an antibiotic that treated my problem & saved me time & money so I didn't have to see my family doctor, I highly recommend Rex Painter, DDS, MD & 1st City Dental Clinic. Ms. Bethany manages the office with two hygienists Larissa & Amy, two dental assistants/technicians Esmeralda & Cory & the receptionist/scheduler Andrea. Everything from the getting established as a new patient, to X-rays, cleaning and then a 2nd appt for a filling was just fabulous from the front desk ladies to the hygienists to dr painter. Everything was awesome! I came in my 2nd appt to get a filling and I showed him another spot on a different tooth that was also bothering me and he offered to do both at the same appt even though I was only scheduled for 1. They made sure I knew the price before going forward to make sure I was comfortable with the new price. Dr Painter is also a veteran, myself being a veteran as well, it's nice to have that connection and understanding. Later the same evening dr painter called me to just follow up and make sure I wasn't having any pain from my fillings this morning. I have been going to Dr. Painter for over 3 years. I am a realtor and I have referred my clients to him as well. They all rave about him. Since I live in Palm Coast he is not around the corner BUT his compassion and expertise keeps me going back. He caters to cowards! He thanks his patients for choosing him for their dental care. Dr. Rex Painter has been our family dentist since we moved to St. Aug, over 30yrs ago. When we were not able to pay the full costs after insurance, he let us pay off monthly. When my son passed away, Dr. Rex came to the memorial. You don't find kind and caring medical professionals like that nowadays. The dental hygienist was nice and easy on my mouth. My family loves Dr. Rex and each have a funny story of Dr. Rex. We had issues with a receptionist years ago but as of this year, they have been okay. Teeth pulled, crowns, fillings, and whatever else you need...Dr. Rex WILL take care of you properly and economically with attentive care. read more

Myself and my girlfriend go here for all our dental needs. Living on a low income makes it difficult to reach out for medical needs. When we first went in here my love was in agonizing pain. Dr Painter made it possible for us to make payments. The staff is amazing. One person I would like to point out is Mrs. Giovanni Brown. She worked with us to set up payments and I paid $100 up front and I will be making payments on the rest at a minimal amount every month. She told us "just $5 every month. Stay away!!!! The girl at the front desk was so rude and kept hanging up on me!!! I called on Nov 8, 2022 because I had a cleaning at 1pm. I was told when the appointment was made that someone would call me the day before to confirm. I never got a call and told the girl who answered the phone that. The woman at the front desk was so rude and called me a liar because there was no appointment scheduled for me. I tried to tell her that I had my appointment card right in front of me. She proceeded to argue with me and then tell me I was being rude. My husband was listening in on the whole conversation and could not believe what he was hearing. She was extremely rude and unprofessional. She hung up on me and then put the answering machine on. I kept calling and when she finally answered she threatened to put me on speaker phone so the office manager could hear me and I immediately told her to please do that. The woman was completely unhinged. Again I called back and tried to explain to her that I simply wanted to cancel and reschedule my appointment. She again was indigent and told me I was trying to cancel a nonexistent appoinment. How could she reschedule an appoinment that I didn't have? I asked to speak to the officce manager and all of sudden she wasnot there. The she told me that Dr. Painter told her that if patients were rude to her, she could hang up on them. Wow. I will NEVER go back there again and will try to get the office manager's name and speak to Dr. Painter myself so he knows what type of people he has working for him... I haven't had a tooth extraction in over 20 years. I came here today for a tooth extraction. I was full of severe anxiety. I am terrified of shots. I kept grabbing at their hands while they were administering the shots, I know I was aggravating. I apologize for this. But this is the most positive dental experience I've ever had. I am very disappointed in the customer service of this dentist office. I recently moved from Saint Augustine to Jacksonville but decided to keep the same dentist because it had been a good experience so far. I recently had an appointment at 5:00 pm and left from work about 10 minutes later than I originally planned. About half way there I called the dentist office ahead of time to let them know I'd be running about 10 minutes behind and asked if that was ok. The receptionist asked if I wanted to reschedule and I stated I'd rather not because I was already over half way there and going to Saint Augustine only specifically for the appointment. She told me no problem. When I get there 15 minutes later than my appointment she told me they were going to have to reschedule me. I drove 45 minutes the opposite direction from my house after work to go to the appointment only to be turned away. I understand I was late but I feel like the way it was handled by the receptionist was very poorly and I am a very unhappy customer. When I was told I would have to reschedule I responded that I will no longer go out of my way to stay at this dentist. You have lost me as a patient. read more

Dr Rex Painter is the most humble proffessional dentist I have ever been to .Very knowledgable and all around regular guy. He does get busy and sometimes scheduling is difficult but it shows in his demand. More than general dentistry ,he also did 3 dental implants with very minimal pain. Thank you Dr Painter. read more
