I have needed two root canals and had symptoms for another that Dr Currie diagnosed as something else. He was right and I did not need a root canal on that tooth. He and the whole staff at St. Johns Endodontics have been 100% kind, careful, caring and super competent! By far the best people I have ever had work in my mouth! I am 66 and retired after running a very large business that was focused on customer service across 2000 employees so I know what I'm talking about when I see great customer service like I've experienced with Dr Currie and St. Johns Endodontics!! And the building is beautiful inside with indirect lighting - great music - and wonderful art including some calming art on the monitors above your head while having a procedure done - first class all the way! I'm sure St Johns Endodontics do great root canals however when I called for an appointment, I had already had a CT scan and new x-rays and pan done the week before. The woman I spoke with insisted that it is their protocol to have a new CT scan done in new x-rays. You've got to be kidding me! In what world is that necessary? These new CT scan machines are the cats meow to the company that designed them and sells them and the doctors that buy them pay a pretty penny for him so I'm sure they want to pay for them. But not on me thank you very much that increased risk and unnecessary need. I'm kind of glad it went that way because I disagreed with getting two more root canals and all the expense that was going to go into my mouth when it made more sense to do two extractions and one bone graph and implant for the same price of a bunch of nonsense that would've hurt me in the long run. Every tooth I have ever lost came from having a root canal that weakened the tooth and ultimately required it to be extracted. Root canals are bad for you. Avoid them at every cost. I worked 20 years in the Dental field, and it was quite a while ago, but root canals are still done the same way, the risks are still the same. A lot of them are unnecessary and that hasn't changed either. Good luck to all of you but look at more updated repairs to your mouth. read more

Had to wait for 2 months to get in and then the day before going in I thought to call to make sure my appointment was still in place. The office stated my wife had cancelled my appointment a week ago, but my wife never called to cancel, nor does it show in her call log. Someone cancelled my appointment on purpose and used an excuse that my wife called to cancel, or they cancelled the wrong person. Just left. Will never return. It was my first and last time there. Nobody really cared about me and my dental health...at least that was the vibe I got. The hygienist was cold with a bad attitude and seemed annoyed every time I asked questions and tried to speak with her. Not friendly or warm at all--no empathy. The office staff had called earlier in the day to confirm the price of the visit and said my insurance had agreed to pay for 25% but then when I checked out, they were only going to bill my insurance $1.50 out of a $200 bill. I was like, what?!? I thought they agree to pay 25%? She is like, "Nope...this is all they'll agree to pay, not sure who you talked to". Dr. McClure looked at my teeth for about 1-2 min and left. I don't feel confident about this place at all. Thank goodness I didn't agree to a root canal there. I wouldn't trust them. They clearly don't care, just want to get paid. read more

Was referred here after the first dentist I visited couldn't diagnose what was making my tooth hurt and I'm so glad they were able to accommodate me the very next day, my tooth (#2) hurt so bad my right eye was tearing up and right side of my face felt like it was burning. I called at 0830 and was given a 1200 appointment. Place is off of CR 210 in St Johns county and not that difficult to find. Same plaza as VyStar Credit Union. Place is clean, looks new and organized. Nice sized waiting room area for patients and they have bottled water and coffee (well-stocked Keurig station) in the waiting area as well. Staff at the reception area were professional and on top of the paperwork needed, info on insurance coverage and patient responsibility. The dentist (Dr. McClure) and his assistant (Kristie) were very professional, friendly and very nice. They were able to diagnose the cause of the tooth ache (cracked tooth) and recommended a root canal procedure. They made sure I was comfortable, at ease, and informed me what they are doing or about to do so I was aware of what's going on. After the anesthesia kicked in, it was a painless, most comfortable root canal procedure I've had (this was my 2nd). I also received a call from Dr McClure, after I got home, to check on me and gave his cell number to contact if I experience excessive discomfort or need anything pertaining to the procedure. Just not a good experience. McClure left me with a "high filling" on a root canal tooth. Went back the next week to be fixed and he says it was ok. Left on a 2 week, out of the country vacation, and suffered the whole time with tooth pain. Went back on return he wasn't there, they gave me someone worse, Currie, who said nothing was wrong. Here I was in pain and the guy was lost. Didn't go back Went to primary dentist, Levine, who show me X-rays of the tooth under the root canal that indicated the nerve was crushed and he compared it to the X-ray that I had 2 weeks before the original procedure. This tooth had been pounded by the high filling and now it needed a root canal. Now out $2700 fixing McClures problem. Folks, I allowed McClue to buy out the first review I made to refund the fee. Now $2700 later this unqualified dentist doesn't want to hear about it. It's my fault and I'm trying to cheat him. I had been experiencing extreme pain with a tooth and knew something was wrong. The issue had not been resolved by my general dentist so I decided to go to an EndoDontist. I had my first and only root canal done at this office. The process was super smooth and painless, both dealing with logistics of booking the appointment and the actual procedure itself. The DR and nurses made sure I was completely numb and ready before beginning. I had absolutely no pain during the procedure and no pain after, only my gums felt slightly tender next couple days after. Which is incredible. No sensitivity as well. I had an appointment with Dr. Alexander McClure. He is very professional and knowledgeable. The review is about the staff. I work in downtown Jacksonville and the only appointment I can get is the St. Johns County location or I would have to wait 3 months. I received referral from my family dentist. The office staff could not give directions to their location. My GPS and Google Maps on my iPhone kept directing me across the street to a Burger King and to a State Farm Office. I was advise that they have never seen a State Farm office on their road and acted very inconvenient to give me directions. If you don't care, then why open a business? A business needs to know what locations are ride share services, Google Maps, MapQuest, etc. are leading people. I ask do they still want me to come to my appointment. They said yes, but could not give me directions. Oh, they said look for a glass building. FYI, the office is not a glass building. I finally found it. Dr. Currie, Katie and the 210 staff have served my teeth so well that I have to comment. Last June after having a tooth ache on and off for 18 months I saw Dr. Currie for the first time and he was able to quickly diagnose the problem and recommend a course of treatment. Today's visit was to fix an old root canal performed by another dentist that developed an infection. Dr. Currie and his assistant Katie explained the steps the process required before starting and updated me throughout the process on what he was doing and how we were progressing. Additionally, Dr. Currie called at the end of the day to check how I was doing. I have had a lot of dental work. My primary dentist referred me to St. Johns Endodontics for severe pain. They saw me the same day. I needed a root canal replaced. We scheduled it for the next week. Dr. McClure and Kristie (sp?) were excellent! I was anxious going in. Kristie was warm and hospitable. Dr. McClure administered the shots so well there was no pain from the shot (for me the worst part of any procedure is that needle, especially in the roof of the mouth). So far so good. I went to my new family dentistry last month and was referred to Dr. Curry for a root canal. Now I'm very nervous no... lets be honest I'm freakin out it's something about dental offices that scare me so I took my time booking the appointment until the pain was kicking my ass. I was unsure if I would be able to make an appointment soon so figured when I called they would schedule me sometime in the middle of the month.. So imagine my surprise when Amber the receptionist answered very politely and listened to what I had to say and I gave her my level of pain being an 8 out of 10. She said "Sure Mrs. Klentzman, we can fit you in today at 12:45.. if that'll work for you." My response was "WHAT!!?? Oh Hell yeah book that appointment asap." Now usually it doesn't work like that for new patients. So I'm so grateful to be able to see an Endodontics Dr today. Lord knows I need this. Right now I'm just sitting in the very clean very nice waiting area waiting for my name to be called. Hopefully the Dr. does an amazing job and I wont be in any more pain. I'll finish this review after my visit has been complete.Its now 12:11pm It went well.. they had to give me laughing gas cranked to the max because i was so nervous. They gave me six shots in my mouth to numb me but that still didn't work. They ended up doing another procedure that involved drilling and injecting and that did the trick. Overall it was what it was.. I'm still afraid of the dentist lol.. I know I'm a big baby but I'm afraid of pain.. smh Anyway. I had a referral for an "emergency" root canal from tooth trauma. They were able to get me in within the hour for a consult and then complete the procedure right away so I didn't have to make another trip. I appreciated this as I had to get a sitter, which isn't easy during Corona times. On Friday, I got a call asking how I was by Dr. Currie, but he also left his cell number in case I had problems over the weekend. I thought that was excellent patient care. Had a 34 year old Navy molar crown/root canal start giving me trouble. My regular dentist (Dr Minta, also awesome, BTW!) recommended St Johns Endo. I thought they would have to extract the tooth. Not a fan of dentists by any means at all, but if you need a root canal, I would strongly suggest St John's Endodontics. I drove 28 miles to have my root canal done on the CR210 location. The staff was very courteous and the dental assistant Anna really helped me calm my nerves before, during and after the procedure. I can honestly say that my root canal was pain free thanks to the numbing of my entire left side of my face. lol Seriously, the work done was explained beforehand and I would highly recommend them to everyone. They also have a office in Mandarin, but I have not visited. The CR210 location is quite clean and pleasing to the eye. The piped in music is new and upbeat, not that elevator music you find in some offices. read more

I'm a public school teacher. I'm covered under our insurance and my wife's federal employee dental plan. I'm very upset with what I see as a dishonest business practice.My dentist called St John specifically to ask if they accepted my insurance, gave them all the information, and they said yes. I drove 45 miles early in the morning for an appointment, and when I walked in the door, St Johns told me it would be $176 before a doctor would even see me. They should have disclosed this out of network fee when the appointment was made. I'm getting tired of this bait-and-switch nonsense from medical providers. If they are not in network with Blue Cross Blue shield and Humana, you can bet it's because their fees are in excess of what is customary and reasonable. In the meantime, I'm teaching Middle School with a terrible toothache, while trying to find another appointment with someone more honest than St John's. read more

I'm surprised by the great ratings because my experiences was simply painful. I've had several root canals previously, and none had really any pain at all. Frankly, I thought Dr. C. was rather inconsiderate with his techniques. Perhaps someone can tell me the following were unavoidable? First, I had a previous dental issue that I asked him to check. He took a probe and shoved it very hard down the side of the tooth to see if there was firm bone below it. He told me there it was a "10" or "11". I don't know if that's millimeters or what, but it was extremely painful! Second, in prep for the root canal of a molar, he gave me a Novocain shot in my upper pallet without any numbing medication at all. It was by far the most painful dental experience I've ever had! Wowza! I got the sense that he was a little apathetic about my comfort and interested in speeding along the process. I will definitely not return here for treatment should I ever need to. To begin with, I had a 25 year old silver filling removed from my bottom molar and replaced with a composite filling by dentist. After having this filling removed, I had extreme pain when chewing food with this tooth. After 4 months time, a round of antibiotics, and multiple adjustments did not relieve my pain, my dentist performed a root canal. After about 4 months, I determined that the root canal was unsuccessful since I still had a medium degree of chewing pain, I decided that I needed to see a specialist so I called St. Johns Endodontics. When I called, the staff member was very compassionate and caring about my situation. She scheduled me with Dr. Currie. After consulting with Dr. Currie, he recommended a re-treamtment of the root canal. During the re-treatment, he cleaned out my tooth's canals as well as injected antibiotics to ensure no infections were lingering. Dr. Currie's re-treament was a success. I still have a very mild bruised feeling when chewing but it is no comparison to what my tooth felt like before. I am confident that he saved my tooth. More than that, Dr. Currie is very caring, thorough, and informative. Every step during my procedure, he talked me through what he was doing. Excellent doctor and handsome practice. read more
