Considering what a horrible procedure this can be, every step of the process was clearly explained to me, the pre and post care was excellent, and the procedure itself went as well as as I could have hoped. I was referred to Dr. Alexander McClure of this group in late Jan, 2026 by my primary dentist of numerous years for a possible root canal. I have always taken very good care of my teeth & upon being able to finally get in with for a consultation, he did not see the tooth to be in need of same & referred me for dry needling shots as my insurance paid for it & assured me would resolve the issue. After several months of the treatments, I realized it was not fixing the problem at all. My immediate attempts to make an appt with Dr McClure (Lauren) were hopeless...Was advised would be 4 wks as 2 of his associates had left practice & he was short-staffed. Thank God I found Gerich Endodontists in Jacksonville who immediately started taking steps to resolve & save my tooth....CARING, PROFESSIONAL & SO DIFFERENT THAN ST.JOHNS ENDODONTISTS. I have posted on every Social Media site in this avenue/areas of the dental/medical field. After working 35+ years in the Finance Corp Mgmt field & always having cleanings every 6 months, taking VERY good care of my teeth, I am surprised St. Johns Endodontists retains him as I am sure other individuals have been impacted by his lack of care for any patient. Referring a patient out for a questionable treatment does not resolve the root problem and shows the lack of integrity of St. Johns Endodontists overall by this Endodontist..... I have had so many people reach out to me since posting across my Social Media about Dr. McClure's uncaring, unprofessional nature, outrageous costs, postponed or erroneous information given to them, one even today that stated that once he found out she had no dental insurance her fees doubled, as well as the "consultation quote." What a shame St. Johns Endodontists would employ such an individual in the dental/medical avenues. My dentist recently referred me to this practice. To have a tooth checked that was bothering me. Just got off the phone with one of his employees, Sheila who after telling me that I was released from their practice a few years ago, proceeded to read notes they have on file. Apparently when you question what is being done and ask for clarification, that's a problem and they don't want "problems." I asked if the tooth they worked on was the one was the tooth I am needing looked at she responded "excuse me! Don't get sassy with me. I wasn't in the mood for it then and I'm not in the mood now!" I don't care how long Sheila has been with this practice, what her role is but rest assured, as someone who is either a promoter or a retractor for anyone I do business with, I will let everyone, when the opportunity arises, know about your wretched communication and exceptionally poor customer service skills. read more

I had the honor of needing a last minute root canal before going out of town (oh no!) Dr. Popkowski and his team were able to get me in right away, same day. That alone was something I was SO grateful for. This was my first root canal and I was VERY nervous about getting it done. I feel like all the media I've seen about root canals had me terrified for the procedure. But wow, I felt like such a baby afterwards! Dr. Popkowski and his team were SO professional, kind, and reassuring. It didn't hurt at ALL! He knocked it out of the park getting me in and out within the hour. Doc also called that evening to make sure everything still felt okay, which was very personable! I didn't even have pain the next day. In fact, my mouth feels better than it has in a while! I had no idea how much that tooth had been bothering me. I say all this to say, wow - what a walk in the park! This group rocks and I couldn't be happier about my experience here. Highly recommend St Johns Endodontics! I was referred to St Johns Endodontics for a root canal procedure. The front desk was nice and personable, and they made my visit very comfortable from the moment I walked through the door - the fact that I was able to quickly book an open spot with Dr. Popkowski the same day as my consultation was bonus! Dr. Popkowski and his assistant Macy, made me feel very comfortable throughout the entire process - translating my X-ray results, explaining exactly what would happen during the root canal and post-op, checking in with me periodically throughout the actual procedure, and answering any questions I had before, during, and afterwards. Overall, the root canal was quite painless, so definitely happy about that (only discomfort being the bite block, but I guess that's par for the course) - I wish I could say it was also quick, but my long and curvy canals thought otherwise, haha! I also appreciate the check-up call from Dr. Popkowski later in the day - definitely a level up in terms of service that is much appreciated. All in all, if you HAVE to undergo a root canal treatment, I again highly recommend St. Johns Endodontics. They'll treat you right! read more

I got referred here after my regular dentist thought she found something wrong with my front tooth, possibly in need of a crown. As soon as I got inside the building I was welcomed with such warmth. Of course I had some paperwork to fill out but it was easy and quick to fill out. I got there about 20 mins before my appointment so that I could fill all that stuff out and I was brought back closer to my appointment time. I believe it was Dr. Sullivan that I saw. X-rays were done by one of his dental techs. He checked it out and saw nothing so then he examined all my teeth and checked the cold sensitivity of my front teeth. I had no problems with any of them and they didn't hurt so he stated that there's nothing wrong with the questionable tooth and stated that I take pretty good care of my teeth...which I do. I was in and out of there in under an hour which I always like because I'm not a fan of anyone poking around in my mouth for long periods of time. Dr.McClure was really caring and understanding during my emergency root canal procedure. I was referred there by my dentist and was able to get in that same day. I have really bad anxiety with any type of medical procedure ( especially the dentist) but Dr.McClure explained everything he would do beforehand and continued to explain what he was doing throughout the procedure. I appreciated this so much as many doctors don't take the the time to speak to their patients more than they need to. Dr. McClure and their team of qualified staff are dedicated to treating each individual patient with compassion, respect & professionalism. I can say without a doubt It was the best care and professionalism I think I ever had. He took his time making the process less painful than I ever thought was possible. Even when we were halfway through we took a break & he saw another patient followed up with him as I sat there I could hear him explain in detail professionalism & caring way as a follow-up visit. Made me feel I was in good hands. He also called me later in the evening to check that I was doing ok, which I was. From others I know I can say St. Johns is very good at what they do. the office staff was very good too, I was at bay meadows location, easy Check in & checkout. The location itself was a nice older building with updated equipment. Only wish my insurance would have been excepted. It sucks when you're sold insurance and told its good and finding out later that it's not excepted everywhere when you need it most to help pay when you need good work done by good Drs., Glad the office did, however, offer care credit there that helped me with the financing. My dentist in St Augustine referred me to Dr Sullivan last Thursday because I needed a temp covering for a broken tooth asap. My dentist was in a long surgery that day but wanted to make sure I was in good hands thus the referral to Dr Sullivan. I believe if my dentist referred me to Dr Sullivan it must be because he's trustworthy, talented and professional but the bummer is I won't know if that's true. All I know is that entire front desk staff does not compliment Dr Sullivan in the slightest. After driving an hour to Dr Sullivan's, sitting in his waiting area for close to an hour and driving back home for an hour, here is what I know about Dr Sullivan: OC and Amber seem to like talking about Farrah Fawcett hair They also like to talk poorly of patients that call the office requesting appointments or a change of appointment. They like to gossip about staff members with the lady in the back area of the office. They like talking loudly about patients dental insurance policies, numbers, date of birth, etc. They like ignoring a referral from their employers colleague (which would be me) They like acting rude and powerful when that referral tries to get information from them. I ended up leaving, driving to Walgreens and buying some dent temp for my throbbing tooth before I had to walk into to a very important court meeting. My dentist felt so horrible about my experience, he offered to come in on his day off and fix my tooth. Dr Sullivan, I'm sure you are a great dentist but I hope you coach your staff on service, compassion, confidentiality and professional behavior. They are the first impression of you and in my opinion, they are not doing you justice. You can reach me for more detailed information. Update: I received a call from Dr Sullivan regarding my experience in his office. I was delighted he took the time to call, apologize for his staff and inquire about the details. He was gracious, understanding and has a very gentle energy about him. I can understand why my primary dentist would refer me to him. 5 stars for Dr Sullivan. I would go see him again if warranted (which I hope doesn't happen) but after our talk tonight, I am confident he will address with his staff all that needs to be addressed. If I can place 10 stars I would! My dentist, Dr. Beaver recommended this place. I called to make an appointment this morning and got in at noon...thank goodness. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm smile from both front desk personnel. It didn't take long at all when Kristi called me in. She was friendly, caring, and informative. Then Dr. Alexander McClure comes in...oh em gee. This doctor is simply put, amazing. During my procedure, he would tell me step by step what he is doing and what I can expect. From the sound effects to possible pressure I may feel. By the way, he is so gentle...another plus :) I mean seriously, I don't ever want to visit an endodontist again but if I were to go, it would have to be Dr. McClure!!! read more

I have been to Dr. Sullivan's office twice now in the last few weeks. His office staff is professional, his office is clean and modern. He explained very clearly my two procedures and talked me through both of them. Here's the kicker...BOTH times, he called personally to check on me, not his staff, not a service. My tooth was broken a few years ago and required a crown, but no root canal. In the last year, the pain had been getting increasingly worse in this tooth. My dentist assured me, after x-rays, that everything was fine; however, last night the throbbing was so intense, I was nearly in tears. This morning, I found St. Johns Endodontics through the amazing reviews online. I called and explained my issue, and was so thankful they had just had a cancellation and could see me immediately! They were able to confirm I needed a root canal and performed it this morning following the evaluation. Dr. Sullivan was so caring and attentive, constantly checking on me throughout the procedure to make sure that I was doing okay. He also explained what was happening during each step of the process, which had such a calming effect. I also have such a great appreciation for the respect that Dr. Sullivan shows to his staff and vice versa. It was such a warm and welcoming environment. Lastly, Dr. Sullivan called tonight to check on me and provided his personal phone number should I have any problems. How many doctors provide such wonderful care? I am so thankful that my pain is finally gone and that Dr. Sullivan and his staff were able to address my issue so quickly! I went to the office on CR210 for an emergency root canal on a Friday afternoon. I was in great pain and nervous about going to a place I had never been to. I was referred by my dentist Dr Sarah Hutson. I cannot say enough good things about this entire office. From the initial phone call thru the entire procedure everything was handled right and with extreme professionalism. Dr. Currie was friendly and funny! He put you at ease and explained the procedure in ways you could understand and made sure you knew everything that was going to happen and why. He and his assistant, Keona, worked well together and displayed great respect for each other. I know people are not going to believe this (and I hardly could either) but the procedure was totally painless and I have absolutely no horror stories to tell about my first root canal. These guys know how to do things and they do them all well. It is refreshing to see a place that does great work and make it look easy. They treat their patients right and all with a great attitude! Some time back I had a boss (who became a friend) who said of one employee - "If I could give them less than a zero, I would." I have similar, but diametrically opposed, feeling about Dr. McClure and St John Endodontics. If I could give them a 100 on a 1 to 5 scale, I would. If you reference some of my other reviews, you will see I tell it as I see it, no holding back. I never waste my time with a average review. I was referred by my regular Dentist. I had thoughts of pulling out my own tooth due to the pain and personal dentist shutting down during this time. I had great misgivings about seeing a new-to-me dentist, especially one who would take on a person during the Pandemic. Firstly, my phone initial phone contact with the staff was excellent. None of those damn electronic answering fiascos that triple blood pressure. Get a person first time, every time. A nice person at that. The super efficient staff had pre-qualified the insurance and given a price range w/i 2 hrs of making the appointment. Despite the worst case scenario (in terms of how much work the good Dentist had to do), the cost came in at the middle of the price range. I would have paid 5 times the price at that point. They are honest. I had a very aggravated tooth that kept me up 2 nights running. After my Dentist, Dr, Altenbach (good guy) made a call for me I was immediately contacted back. After explaining my not-so-good condition, I was given an appointment first thing the next morning. I suspect Dr. McClure came in early just to accommodate me. As soon as I arrived, there was an absolute minimum of paper work (unlike most Doc / Dentist offices that have folks supply tons of superfluous trivia - that often ends in self serving questions to promote business). I mean 2 short forms - that's all. This is helpful when you have a mouth full of pain. Now - to business. The good Doctor is a perfectionist, as am I. He has the stamina to keep at precisely drilling my tooth into 3 deep root canals. He went at it for over an hour straight. They use the latest equipment - I mean state of the art. He was frank with me, due to the severity of damage to the tooth, it may later need extraction - but gave me an honest choice. I went with continuing the root canal. After an incredibly deep drill, he immediately applied a full filling. Although prescribed some pain meds, I have yet to take any. Unbelievable, given the amount of work done. This guy is GOOD. Don't get me wrong, that side of the mouth is still tender, but not in pain. Then to add joy to joy, Dr. McClure personally called me later in the afternoon, just to ask how I was doing. THANK YOU DR. McCLURE If every business was run this way, I suspect the world be a much better place. Could you imagine if the Government was run this way.... read more

It is tough to give someone you pay to hurt you in the name of relief 5 Stars, I have to say my experience here was exceptional,... considering the circumstances. Dr. Sullivan, was extremely professional and direct. He answered any question I had before and after including an explanation of the graphic details. We had a "one off" problem, which was NO FAULT of him or the staff (or mine), but they reacted quickly to resolve, even stopping the procedure. All of the young ladies (technicians and assistants) were extremely professional and personal at the same time. After a rough procedure I received a follow up call from the Dr at 8:45pm to check my status. That alone goes a long way! They did their best for my comfort considering, explained everything fully, and followed up when not necessarily required. Painful, but good experience read more

Dr McClure and his staff are truly wonderful. Dr McClure squeezed me in on a busy Friday on an emergency basis, so I would not have to wait out the weekend with a rapidly deteriorating tooth. I have quite a bit of anxiety around dental work so you can imagine how fearful I was going into a root canal. Dr McClure treated me with so much patience, kindness and compassion, I simply can't imagine a better experience. I was never in pain and he talked to me through the entire procedure explaining everything that was happening to ease my mind. The procedure was fast, painless, and he even followed up with me personally later that evening to see how I was doing and gave me a direct line to reach him if I had any trouble over the weekend. I was so touched by the care and concern Dr McClure and his staff offered me that I will be forever grateful for them. If you are ever in need of endodontic services, Dr McClure should be your first and only call you make. Dr. Currie did an amazing job with a root canal that had to be redone due to infection. He is a perfectionist and even found that the previous Dr had missed a root completely. This office is top notch. Great people, great atmosphere and great doc. They gave me anti inflammatory and pain meds. 6 hours later he called to check up on me and I couldn't even tell I had had a root canal. I never even needed the meds! This is a wonderful practice with great people. I am in nearby Green Cove Springs living on a sailboat. My regular dentist is in Colorado. I had the most horrendous pain I have ever experienced in one of my teeth - and I have had broken bones, torn ligaments, all sorts of nasty injuries as a result of being a rider and a sailor. This was hideous. I got an appointment with the first local dentist I could (John McCabe, DDS in Green Cove Springs - run away!!!) who did x-rays & recommended a root canal. The diagnosis was correct but I wouldn't go back to that skanky clinic for removal of a hangnail. You don't want details. I Yelped local endodontists & Dr. Sullivan's clinic had nothing but glowing reports and rightfully so. They were fabulous. Got me in really fast. The clinic was spotless. My regular dentist is Dr. Boales and although it's almost 30 miles from my residence, I continue to go to them because of him and his staff. Dr. Boales recommended St. Johns Endodontist and I was seen by Dr. Sullivan and he's done two root canals so far and another one possibly today. I have never ran into such a wonderful group of workers and DR. There is never a doubt when I need work such as a root canal Dr. Sullivan is the best. This was my second root canal, first one I had done about 4 years ago. Today's visit I did two at once - a front tooth root canal and the previous crown needed to be retreated. Good morning I've been trying to get a review for Saint Johns endodontics on Yelp for the last few days and now I think I finally got it but that being said I would like to tell you about my experience with Saint Johns endodontics. First of all I would like to thank Becca in the Fernandina Smiles office for referring me to these wonderful people! After I could not obtain a timely appt here in Fernandina, i was able to be seen at Saint Johns Endodontics the very next day. Thank you OG for getting me in so swiftly because I was in excruciating pain. I was given a 245pm appt and was in the chair before I could finish my paperwork. People the whole staff are so nice and caring and I just love love love Dr. John Sullivan! He is so caring and concerned. Turns out I needed 2 root canals under a cantilever that had been in place for at least 25 years. He explained every procedure as he worked and expressed nothing but concern for my comfort. I tell you I have never had a root canal that was less painful. I walked away with prescriptions for antibiotics and pain pills. I haven't had to take the pain pills more than twice and it's been over a week. So thank you ladies for being so cordial, thank you Dr. Sullivan for calling for to check on me but most of all thank you for taking care of my problem. read more
