I dont think ive ever hated a store so fast in my life. First you have to have a quarter for a cart even though you get it back still annoying. Heads up, You have to pay for bags or bring your own. Keep an eye on your receipts the staff was friendly but I was overcharged for one item 14x... now I have to drive all the way back from Oceanside to get it corrected. Just came out from getting my change back from being overcharged, as I was in line the lady behind me came back also because she had also been overcharged by the same cashier. A manager was called up to open the drawer, did not apologize and ran away as fast as he could. Then the cashier had me sign a receipt.... He said, "Can I have you sign this, it's just saying that I screwed up".... little douche bag... smh... I wouldn't be so upset but I have been a cashier for years and I get mistakes happen but this just seems careless. Go somewhere else anywhere else. What a waste of time and gas. read more

Very nice grocery store with amazing prices! Everything is always well organized and the staff are friendly, even providing you with a quarter for the cart in case you forget yours. The prices can't be beat, especially for their organic items. I've been shopping here since they opened and am able to feed my family of 6 for about $100 or less a week and that includes all meals plus snacks! I may have had high expectations but I was unfortunately not impressed. My family and I lived in Germany and we used to go to the real Aldi. Their products here are not all unique, hardly anything from Germany/Europe at all and there just isn't much in the store as a whole. I do have to say, they do have a pretty good gluten-free selection (frozen, crackers, snacks, etc.). We will not make frequent trips here, but I will stop by for GF stuff. Omg you have to put a whole .25 deposit to use the shopping carts. Ooohhhh the agony of a quarter that I get back when I'm done. Hint hint one of the reasons prices are low! Love this place, don't do all my shopping here but it's the place I start and with four kids and a bbq I shop for my groceries. Usually hit up aldi and staters and being down the road from each other it's perfect. This store reminds me of grocery outlet but they didn't buy the food because it was about to expire. Great for snacks, fruits and veggies, drinks, eggs, cheese, milk, bread, and a small selection of meat along with a few things here and there. Not a full grocery store, another reason prices are low. I shop here weekly and have never stood in line longer than a normal grocery store, definitely shorter than wallymarts. Love how snooty all the people from Carlsbad and Encinitas are, go back to your over priced trader joe and spend your ten minutes in line at the seaside market. read more

Like a more expensive Dollar Tree. Or a government cheese distribution center. But both of those places have a better vibe. Many products are low-quality with fillers like palm oil and high fructose corn syrup. Reading product labels (i.e., peanut butter, bread) brought me back to the days when Ronald Reagan made ketchup a vegetable in public school lunches. I like to pack my own bags, but they need a system like Food For Less has, where your purchases get routed to one side of a packing area so you don't have to hurry to get out the way to keep from holding up the line. Not a big fan of how the clerks throw your purchases back into your cart after ringing them up. Just seems poorly thought-out overall. No idea why there are so many positive reviews. Seems like the worst combination of grocery options: so-so prices, poor selection, low-quality items, and limited service. A much better (less expensive, higher quality) option not far away is Grocery Outlet on College Boulevard in Oceanside. Or any Dollar Tree. read more

Came to ALDI for the 1st time and wow I was shocked. I am gluten intolerant and there is so much gluten free food here. They even have gluten free hot pockets which I've never seen before. Aldi's is the best place to shop in Southern California!! Prices are great just like they are back east and their products are way better than Von's. As they own Trader Joe's and only stock a core of items who could ask for more. Got large eggs .54 per dozen and butter is half what it is in other stores. read more

Not the most exciting food store in the world, but the prices are pretty decent. Very few of the goods were from manufacturers that I'm familiar with, but I encounter some of that at Grocery Outlet, so no big deal. The store was pretty clean though the aisles were cluttered with shoppers clogging them so moving around is a bit of a chore. Fortunately I guess, the store's not a big one (think Fresh & Easy, when they were around) so you can still have a look around the whole place and get an idea what they have to offer. I would say with Walmart right nearby and Target across the street, I wouldn't see much reason to shop here, other than the prices which are quite competitive. Selection is minimal so I figure running in and out for a few of the basics, while not getting gouged, as you would at a convenience store, might be the reason. You have to push a quarter into the shopping cart to be able to use it and get it right back when you return it to the cart area. That's smart on the store's part and I could see other stores doing this as well to reduce shopping cart clutter and theft. Having volunteered to do a couple of the city semi-annual cleanups and having to pull carts out of creeks and from under bridges, I'd say this is every bit as helpful as the new shopping bag purchasing. read more

Went today and liked the store. At checkout, the cashier threw everything in the cart so fast I couldn't keep up bagging my groceries. While 1/2 my groceries were not yet bagged she asked me to sign the receipt. The store was empty and there was no one in line behind me. It was incredibly rude. Will not be returning. read more

My review of Aldi! So many people have told me to check it out! I will never ever go back! Ever!!! You have to get there at the right time or the sales you wanted are gone, bring .25 cents for a cart (you do get it back when you return it), had to unload my groceries onto a cart, have them load it back into a cart, but bags, then head to an area and bag my groceries myself. Lots of the food was not looking so hot too. This is my opinion but I am sure others love it. I will say the staff is so great. But I did not save much and there was not a large selection. read more

The pricing can be really good on some items (i.e. bread, prune juice, sugar)... not so great on other items. I don't recognize any of the brands, but I have not been disappointed with the quality. Worth checking their weekly specials on fruits in vegetables.... Checkout is the one main negative. In order to use a cart, you have to have a quarter... problem is I haven't carry coin change in years. The checkout is also very cumbersome as they seem to be a bit understaffed.... read more

I am very unsatisfied with how this aldi is handling customers at checkout. I came to pick up an item or two and waited almost 5 minutes in line to be rung out. I understand 5 minutes is not a long time, but the line was very long I could say exactly 9 different customers waiting to be checked out. So what I don't appreciate is how this Aldi's teamwork is set up. This cashier was doing her job and running one after another as fast as she could, but here is the problem her backup call never showed up. While I was seeing another cashier doing product check in coolers about 20 feet away with her walkie talkie hanging from her color. I approached Jennifer my cashier and asked nicely that I would ask for help for this long line, her response was, " I did but no came". Very sad case of mismanagement. I appreciate Jennifer doing her job fast but this management needs more training on customer service. Why do I have to give you my money while I can shop with list of options I have? Simply, I won't anymore. I liked Aldi bc of it's simplicity, however, long lines defeats the purpose. Back to Vons and Albertsons, where they actually respond and greet you as a customer. Buying groceries at my local Aldi store has been a life-changer, saving at least 25% off my prior grocery bills at Walmart (and I don't have to hassle with coupons!) The quality of their house brands is excellent (especially with their 2x guarantee on any product you're not satisfied with), their selection adequate for at least 80% of my overall grocery buying (although there are still a few name brand items they don't carry that I still purchase at "regular" grocery stores). Their aisle of "Aldi Finds" that changes weekly is a treasure hunt of bargains. Their staff is always helpful when I need to find a sale item or can't find an item I usually purchase there. If you're not familiar with the "Aldi way" of shopping, pick up their flier at the entrance or go online and read some of the numerous articles on how to maximize your shopping experience. Your wallet will thank you! PS They even have cute little keychains near the checkouts for $1 that hold your Aldi cart quarter! read more

ALDI is definitely a different type of shopping experience. It's super strengths are the great prices, the friendliness of the people who work there and the speed of efficiency in which they process transactions. This is NOT a store where checkout is agonizing slow (looking at you, Vons). In order to keep prices low, shopping carts have a coin mechanism that requires a quarter refundable deposit. This takes a little getting used to, but hey no shopping carts in parking lot causing door dings! You do have to bag your own groceries. I also have seen signs showing their starting wages for employees and it is substantially above the minimum, so the store saves money in the correct places without being "cheap" to their people. I personally feel the savings far exceed the small quirks and therefore do highly recommend! read more

Went to the Grand Opening today. Everyone who greeted me was very welcoming, asked me to sign up for a drawing and gave me a reusable bag. That is mostly why the 4 stars. Other than that, I would give it 3 stars. There was so much hype about them having great organic prices which is why I made the trip there. That was a disappointment, just a very small section of organic produce and the prices were the same or more than Sprouts or Trader Joe's. I didn't notice any organic products in the frozen or refrigerated section but I may have missed them. Probably won't be going back since I don't live near by. read more

I really like this store - a little similar to Fresh n Easy which we no longer have. Money is tight so budget shopping is for me and Aldi helps. I don't care about premium name brands and most products I purchased at Aldi were very, very similar to those big brands. I don't mind bringing a quarter to get a cart and bag my own groceries if that helps keep prices down. I have purchased fruits and veggies there and they were good as well as the canned, boxed and packaged goods. I like all the gluten free and healthier choices. I haven't tried the meats yet so can't comment on that. I plan to go here for most of my groceries. read more

For someone new to this sort of store it may seem strange. ALDIs is german, and as such may seem off to people used to only American stores. It's both small but has variety like a bigger store. It is very cheap like grocery outlet or walmart, but has space and style more akin to trader joes. About half of the items in this store are going to be cheaper than you can find at most places. The other half will be competitive. If a store is selling bananas for 40 cents a pound, ALDIs probably is selling it for 20 cents a pound. If another store is selling a big bag of discount chips, the lowest you can think it could go is 1.50. Here I've seen it go down to 30 cents. Parts of the store have a surprisingly quality selection that is hard to describe. Little bursts of great stuff you'll only find here that'll keep you coming back. They also have a gluten free brand with good variety for those with dietary issues like me. There's just enough here to fully satisfy a college student, but if you're someone else you will probably need to supplement with another store. This applies especially to the produce. The produce, while really cheap, is consistently poor quality. Get it if it's a good deal, but another store like frazier farms or food4less are much better on that front. Aldi has grown on me. I really wanted to like it and I was kind of disappointed the first time I checked it out. It was during the grand opening and we were given free reusable bags I use all the time so I was happy about that. But the selection wasn't great, and there's many brands I don't recognize so I wasn't sure to try any. Today was my third visit, and I was really excited about the deals I got. I couldn't believe how much I came out with for $35. Of course I shopped the sales but even the regular priced items are a great value. I realized their selection isn't bad at all, and there is a lot of quality stuff in there. I decided to start eating healthier a couple days ago, and Aldi definitely has your back. They have almonds, nuts, pistachios in small bags. These are a great deal. I usually buy them in bulk or in tiny packages but these are the right size. I picked up some of those. They have all natural chicken, beef, etc. They have almond, cashew, and coconut milk at better prices than your grocery store. They even have protein powder. The spices are a must to check out. They also carry sodas and chips and things are not so healthy but I like that. It saves going to a second store if you need to pick up any of those items. Oh and wine! Although I didn't check out the selection. Lastly the cashiers are really nice and I love how thoughtful that they have seats for the cashiers. It's definitely worth checking out. read more

Heard that an Aldi was opening up while I was listening to Pandora one morning. Two weeks later and a 45 minute drive I was there. Same atmosphere as the one in Germany, you rent a cart, charge you for bags so you have to bring your own if you don't want to pay for one. They have a lot of German chocolate which are really good! We love this store. We are so tired of going to Ralphs with their old produce and filthy stores. We started visiting Aldi and cut out our trips to Ralphs, Vons, Costco & Albertsons. Every item we buy at Aldi we seem to save a minimum of $1.00, this adds up to allot of money in my pocket. I must preface this review by saying I'm a long time Trader Joe's shopper so my expectations may have been set too high. With that being said, I was very disappointed in this store. My friend and I were very excited to check out this store because we heard that the same family owned both Trader Joe's and Aldi. We thought that we'd make an adventure out of checking this store out. Boy did we have one...and not in a good way. First, we couldn't figure out how to "unlock" the carts. You have to put a quarter into a slot then take a "pin" from the cart behind yours and insert into the lock box. Once unlocked, you have to do the procedure again when you return the cart to get your quarter back. No instructions posted..nothing. Upon entry we were disappointed in the quantity of junk food. A lot of chips, cookies, candy, processed food. The majority of items had packaging made to imitate popular labels like soup labels that looked like Progresso labels but named some no name brand. My friend and I both thought Aldi would have been better off using their own name on the label like Trader Joe's does. We trust Trader Joe's private label goods so using the Aldi name made more sense to us. This place is definitely not for foodie type people. Very limited selection of cheeses (and yes they carried Velveeta!), produce, and unprocessed food. No fresh herbs except cilantro. Pricing was a bit cheaper on some items but not worth a special trip. Last, the check out process was ridiculous. The check out clerk messed up the order two people prior to us and neither she or the assistant manager seemed to know how to void the transaction. Then every time a person bought eggs she had to call for a "key" to correct the sale price. Finally, she basically tossed all of the items back into the cart and the customer is supposed to walk over to a long counter area and bag the items. Why not have the consumer bag the items at the end of the counter? The whole thing was a giant waste of time. read more

Definitely not Trader Joes, there is nothing like Trader Joes, however, ALDI is cheap. It was clean and organized. There was only one cashier when I went and it seems a little inefficient to take groceries off the shelves, put them in your basket, put them on the conveyor belt, have the cashier put them back in your basket so you could put them on a table to bag and put back in your basket, to put in your car and then walk the cart back to the front of the store to collect your quarter. Thank goodness there was a lady who wanted my basket in the parking lot because I was too tired to take it back up...of course, I did have five little kids with me. I was a little disappointed because they didn't have quite the selection I was hoping for (i.e. no pasta for lasagna). But I talked to the cashier, who was very nice, and he said I could go online and request products that I would like them to stock. Not sure how long it would take to actually have my request granted, but at least they would take it into consideration. They carry grass fed beef and some organic products and their cereal and frozen pizza were super cheap. I also thought it was odd that the cashiers sit, especially since we are now seeing standing desks and things like that, but the cashier said he liked it, so that's good. :) If Trader Joes was closer to me, I would shop there. We just moved here and my nearest grocery store is super expensive, so ALDI it is...unless I want to make lasagna. read more
