Pass the savings onto me by letting me bag my own items and put up my own cart. As long as I can pay half the price for Hawaiian roles for the kids and cheese slices for a fraction of the name brand stuff, I'm a happy camper. This place is a staple for me. My experience visiting other grocery stores in Texas has been that each cash counter has a separate line. This was the first time shopping at Aldi's and I wasn't aware that this store has a single line for any cash counter. The cashier was quite rude when I stood in a queue at a particular counter. No signs were placed to explain this nor the cashier was courteous enough to politely explain that this store has a different policy for its queues!Disappointing experience! read more

My friend told me about the deals her dad got at this store last weekend and then my Dad told me about it a few days ago so I had to visit. Likes: - Tons of customers milling about in the store led to a festive atmosphere - Customers even parked on the grass - Bria the cashier was super sweet and automatically got another loaf of bread for my Dad who unintentionally smushed the original loaf by letting other groceries sit on top of it - Nice reusable plastic bags provided after you check out. Oh Aldi, I love you, I've missed you. I recently moved from DFW to Houston, and was super excited when I learned they were building Aldi's here. Apparently those who posted negative reviews didn't do their research before shopping here. They buy local and stock generics only, which keeps prices down. You bag your own groceries, which keeps prices down. Don't forget to bring a quarter to rent a shopping cart (and you get your quarter back when you return it), which, as you can guess.....keeps prices down. If you cook and bake a lot like myself, you might not have much preference for who produces your pantry items, basic dairy products, and other non perishable ingredients. They have a small beer and wine selection (one brand is less than $3!) and rotate some of them as well. They carry a small selection of produce at low prices. At my old store (you can see my past review), some of the shoppers claim this store cut their grocery bill in half. While I don't have a large family, shopping here did reduce my bill significantly. I still have to shop elsewhere for other weekly staple items, but I'm a dedicated Aldi customer. If you are looking for name brands, bulk grains, a hand cut steak or free range anything, all wrapped in a warm and fuzzy shopping experience, you need to go elsewhere. If you are looking to supplement your pantry and fridge with staple items at a cheap price while getting in and out quickly, grab your reusable bags as fast as you can. read more

Aldi ROCKS! They have a "no frills" concept that allows them to keep prices low. You have to pay a quarter to get a shopping cart but when you return it, the quarter is returned to you. This keeps them from having to collect carts from the parking lot like other grocery stores. You also have to bring your own shopping bags (or buy them there) and bag your own groceries. Lastly - and this is very important - they don't take credit cards! It's cash, debit or EBT only. All that said, their prices are amazing! When was the last time you saw a gallon of milk for $1.89? It's a small grocery store where items are cheaper than most other places, but the selection is limited. Seriously, I did a price comparison with Walmart (cause I love data) and they were cheaper for the most part on their odd brands. It's a little strange because the only employees you see are the 1 or 2 at the cash. They don't take credit cards. You bag your own stuff (with your own bags). And, you won't recognize half the brands. However, I've yet to be disappointed in the random brands/things I've purchased there. The thing to get here is the take and bake pizza. Not the odd off brand frozen ones, but the fresh refrigerated ones. It's one of the best I've had. Seriously, this pizza is five stars. I went today to the grand reopening at 9 a.m. I understand it was congested but it's the first day they reopen and that was to be expected. They handled the event very nicely. The staff was courteous and attentive despite them having a big event to pull off. I won a $100 gift card at Aldi's this morning because I was one of the first 100 in line (prize amounts varied) to qualify for their "golden envelope". Perhaps you could say that winning the prize made me look at everything with heart eyes (lol) so my opinion could be biased. They also gave us a nice tote bag on the way out with coupons. Ya'll... Aldi's does not accept coupons EVER, except for these that are given out this week for grand openings (or just today, not sure). So, go get some! $5 off $30. Anyway. I couldn't make it down the first aisle which is where the produce is at due to the amount of people that were coming in all at once but I was able to go down another aisle. I took a small shopping list and was okay not getting everything I needed since I expected "traffic" in the store. I quickly grabbed a few things and ran to the checkout before lines started forming. I then drove down to MY Aldi's (Hwy 6 just north of the one in Sugarland) and continued my shopping there. I'll be coming back to this Aldi's to use my coupons and I'll see how it goes. I imagine the store won't be as packed but I agree with the previous Yelper... the layout is strange. The layout at the Aldi's by my house makes a lot more sense, IMO. For those of you that haven't been to an Aldi's, I think they're great! I love how there are no carts hanging out in the parking lot and I actually prefer to bag my own stuff so I can sort and organize as I please. Unhappy with the service! I just left this location and I was extremely unhappy with the service. Not to mention this location was terribly thought out so the produce is at the door causing congestion. They didn't have any of the products or produce that I needed and the staff was not friendly or helpful. Sadly this location is the closest to my home. Maybe the timing was off. I have officially lost faith in mankind after walking into this store. It's like Black Friday rush on here everyday. And the store is the size of a Gas Station, in fact I've seen bigger gas stations than this store. People are parking on the roadside to get in this store. It's a nightmare. I have to acknowledge how much education people lack when they walk into this store and fill up their carts. This is a grocery store carry only their crappy quality store brand products for slightly cheaper prices than regular brands which they do not carry at all. The Sugar Land HEB is million times better then this crappy store. They have their store brands with far better quality and prices and they carry their regular brands in far better prices than Krogers etc. This crappy store has a their "Fit & Active" brand which are only few products, rest are all store brand. If you don't prefer HEB, just to Sugar Land's Walmart instead. Trust me you're far better off. This store is located in walking distance of my house but it's just a gimmick and imitation of a gas station with their store brand products only. Only senseless people with no Education are pouring in this store because of their flashy gimmicks. I'm never going here again. I don't understand what all of the hype is about. All of the advertising on local stations was very misleading. The store is SMALL! Probably a little bit larger than your corner Walgreens or CVS. Maybe it was really crowded because of the grand opening, but...they were truly not prepared for such a huge crowd. Let's weigh the pros and cons. The merchandise is inexpensive, however the bulk of Aldi's products are their own brand. So many of the deals that you get, you could probably get brand name products on sale at your normal grocery store. I didn't find anything special about the produce or the produce deals...there was barely a produce stand! You have to pay for a cart (like good old Auchan), but, there are NO return kiosks for the baskets in the parking lot, only at the front door. NOT a good process for customers with children. If you are a daily shopper, or have to pick up a few last minute things for your meal, then Aldi might be the store. However, if you like fresh meats, plenty of produce and a variety of products, stick with HEB, Kroger, Fiesta and Randall's. Most of those stores will even price match, so don't even waste the time and headache at this store! read more

Not worth it. I passed by the store a few times, but it seemed overly crowded and people were parked on the street (w.bellfort). I assumed it was because of the grand opening, so I waited until now to go take a look. It's still overly crowded with people parking on the grass. When you first walk in - all you see are chips/candies/junk food and people with children are stopped and there's no way to get through. Everything is inexpensive which is great (eggs $.079, milk $1 something, etc). BUT it's all store brand. And super long lines, I had to wait 20 mins in line, and just going through the store was difficult, since it's super small and crowded. Honestly, I rather go a few lights down to HEB on 90& hwy 6 for my shopping. When I go there, I get in & out really quick. And - if I need something really quick, while I'm cooking - I can run into a Walgreen's/CVS. Oh, no credit cards/checks. read more

I'll buy here first for everything and then go to foodarama and even Randalls with their Just 4 You promotions. If you're a big baby and need everything done for you then don't go here. You'll need a quarter to access the carts which you get back when u replace. You bring your own bags which is the way the world should be heading anyway. Plastic bags are bad for environment. I love this store. They save money by having less employees, not accepting credit cards due to the processing fees, and selling their own brand (with the exception of a few items like dove) By only accepting cash, debit and EBT cards, it helps keep their prices low. which in turn saved the customer money. Who can complain? They have organic brands for a cheaper price compared to heb or kroger. I love that I can find most things here. Fruits and veggies are fresh. Milk comes from their "friendly farms". AND they have an assortment of Gluten free items!! Hooray!!! I hope aldi doesn't go away because I save a lot of money shopping here. read more

This is an excellent store for what it is. A small discount food store selling store brand food stuff. You have to try their ALDI brand potato chips before you dis it. They are excellent quality. The Bar B Q flavored is better than any namebrand stuff. ALDI claim they have their own product tester. Their generics made by some of the largest generic makers must pass their own test. And it shows. They are far far superior to Walmart's Great Values. Their fruit and vegetable selection is small but quality is up to standard of Kroger and HEB. Far superior to those at 99cent stores. After reading this you must be thinking I'm a cheapskate who can only afford the cheapest generic. No. I'm quite wealthy. I just refuse to pay double for the same quality. This store reminds me of grocery stores 40 years ago. Basic , no frills. no sushi bars, no show and tells. Small footprint keep cost down. If you're on a tight budget, and don't mind buying generic brand foods, then this is definitely the place for you. I perused this Aldi Grocery store off hwy 6 and immediately noticed that they carry only generic brand items. From the chocolate cookies with icing in between (oreos I suppose) to the beef filet wrapped in bacon (off brand filet mignon?), there were none of your "regular" brand foods. Call me a "brand snob" but I believe you get what you pay for. Also, I've had horrible experiences with generic "Gold-fish" so I'm a bit more skeptical when it comes to generic brand items. However, I will give Aldi the benefit of the doubt, as some of the wine looked great... and at only $2.99 a bottle (kinda like Trader Joes), I wanted to buy a case to take home! I refrained from buying any packaged generic items, and instead, I only purchased fresh fruits, vegetables, and chocolate (yes... I caved in for my sweet tooth). The aisles are tight and the selection is limited but you can definitely find your most basic fruits and vegetables here. I bought 3 packages of fresh blackberries, 10 avocados, 2 three-pound bags of naval oranges, two English cucumbers (the kind without the seeds) and a package of chocolate with almonds (choceur brand?) all for much cheaper than I would have purchased at another grocery store. Score! btw, the chocolate with almonds was $1.50 and is saturated with roasted almonds! YUM. So much better than Hershey's... so I guess you don't always get what you pay for... -__- I think this place is definitely "A-OK" in the words of Yelp ratings, but I'm a one-stop-shopper kind of girl.. so if I can't get my "real" branded items AND my fruits and veggies, I might only make a stop at Aldi if I'm around the area. read more

Aldi, the national brand is great. They use a lot of cost saving measures. However, this particular location needs A LOT of work concerning customer service and the treatment of shoppers. Today, I witnessed a stocker yell at shopper for trying to grab an empty box. He called unnecessary attention to her when a simple, "Ma'am the store still needs these empty boxes," would have sufficed. And then there's T______a, the lovely cashier that slammed my groceries into a cart. After my transaction, I had my kids at the front of the cart I had emptied and I had the cart T____a had filled up. I was headed to the bagging area so I could bag my groceries and transfer them into the cart where my kids were sitting. She tried to demand that I move my kids, so she could have one of the carts. I reminded her that there were plenty outside. To which she replied that certain carts remain inside. "Well, I hope you figure it out, " I shrugged. To which she responded with loudly conversing with her coworker about how long she had been on the clock, how she need to get off the clock because, "These people don't know what I'll do." I always see this place when I go to Home Depot. I was okay. I have to say it was at steal for a seedless watermelon for 2.99 compared to target which was 3.58. It was a strange concept of putting a quarter into the cart. But at least you know its not in the parking lot. Wish they had a lil more of fresh produce and less process food. It can be irritating to not have a solid quarter to release a basket to use when I happen to stop and shop at Aldi's. However, I understand the concept of reducing manhours to retrieve the carts and keep them available. I usually bring my own bags, so that's not an issue for me. In fact, I rather like it, as it is more eco friendly. I have tried their brand of yogurt, cheese, and lunch meat, and they are all fine. And most of the produce has been really good (on sale) and very affordable. Some items, I've found are not up to par-with even store brands elsewhere. I.E. Breakfast sausage, gum, and crackers. I do use the milk, butter and eggs-the price can't be beaten ANYWHERE....that being said, the milk almost never lasts until the expiry date and I'm now questioning the eggs (they are harder to tell if they are bad-lately bodily functions have been affected). If you use the milk and eggs up quickly, there are no problems, and I put butter in the deep freezer until needed. I don't understand why their milk and eggs have such a short shelf life (could it be the transport time/conditions from -I think-Canada?). I will continue to shop at Aldi's for the items I outlined here. read more

Hated It!!! Felt like I was in a store in the depression because this store made me depressed.This store is like a small open warehouse with everything stacked up everywhere. I usually enjoy the grocery store but this was a stressful experience. Only one kind of staples liked canned goods. I am particular and I don't eat something just because a franchise stacks it up and says this is our brand. You have to pay a quarter for a grocery cart....What the heck? I don't carry change. So no change, no shopping cart? You don't take credit cards...what the heck? You have mulch stacked next to the food? What the heck? They have a wall full of freezers in which they keep frozen foods & eggs in same one...What the heck? It so cramped barely two families of 3 with 2 shopping carts can fit on an aisle. You have to pay for shopping bags and they only advertise .06 per bag but put the more expensive bags at the top so you'll think they are .06 too but they are not!!!! I don't feel like I saved much & the selection was horrible and the experience was stressful. Although a yes for some, Aldi is a NO for me and my family of 3. Will continue shopping at The HEB on Hwy 6 and University in Sugar Land. read more

I don't see what the fuss is all about. I don't mind generic brand foods, but I think you get more bang for your buck at HEB, especially if you shop the specials in the weekly ads. I'd rather spend money on tried and true products that I KNOW I will like. I did not think there were significant savings to be found anywhere in this store, with the exception of milk (under $2 a gallon), eggs (about 70 cents a carton), and some spices ($1 for shakers of italian seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, and others). The produce did not look very fresh, and staples like apples and tomatoes were actually on the pricier side. The store is also very small, so if you're looking for something very specific, you probably will not find it here. I do not live close to Aldi so I will not be re-visiting, but if there is a location in your neighborhood, it's probably worth a visit every now and then. This is definitely not a substitute for your local HEB or Kroger. read more
