This is no frills steam table/cafeteria style Vietnamese on the back of probably the largest Vietnamese grocery store in Houston and it is great. Pricing starts at $6.99 for rice and two entrees but goes up based on the rice/noodle type and the entrees selected. All of ours (3) were 8.99, but packed (the kids tapped out early) and delicious. I had this beef stew that you would otherwise only find at someone's grandma's house that was killer. Got some turnip cake on the side but everything looked good. You've got to be brave if you're apprehensive about your communication skills, but no risk no reward

The store can get pretty busy, but that's usually a good sign of how popular it is. Prices are reasonable, and you can find things here you won't see at regular grocery stores. It's not the most organized place, but if you take your time, you'll find what you need (and probably a few extras). Definitely a go-to for specialty items.

This market is one for the largest Vietnamese markets I've ever been to, offering a wide variety of fresh fruits, frozen foods, dry goods, imported sauces, sweets and more. I particularly love their extensive rice paper selections. My favorite is the "no water" rice paper, which doesn't require dipping in water to roll up like traditional ones. Unfortunately, this type of rice paper is available at every asian market so I'm happy Tan Binh has them. They also have a nice section dedicated to ready-to-eat and hot foods. You can grab and go with options like fried fish, tofu, and cooked meats. Customer service is usually pretty friendly. Just like anywhere else, you should check the expiration date of every product before buying. My cousin forgot to do so and bought two boxes of solar dried bananas that were expired. And during the warmer seasons, they set up a nice plant and herb section for sale right outside the entrance.

The other store is called Chợ Thanh Bình Market at a connecting mall. By looking at the sign inside and the shopping bag. The address says 11698 Bellaire Blvd Suite 11700. The location is checked out ok. Comparing those 2, I like this one better. But not the best one in Asiatown. I wouldn't want to drive all this way for something. I normally hit up Viet Hoa Supermarket on the other side of Beltway. The store is clean enough. Aisles are not always clear. Stuff was all over the floor and blocking the aisles. The shopping carts were all over the parking lot. It's not about what the business did but the customers left the charts wherever they want. I just wish there is a collection point. I have major issue of language barrier with employees here. All signs are in Vietnamese. I had to use Google Translate app for everything. That's too much. I added one star because they have breadfruit. That's a rare item in Houston.

The food court is a big bonus and something we look forward to every visit. With the live grill and multiple spots for comfort food, it's easy to eat before heading home. On top of that, shops seem to be renovating or popping up almost every month, so it feels like a new experience each time we visit. They also have fresh bakeries and desserts to take home, which is always tempting. Prices are great with a membership card, and every trip feels like a Costco-style stock-up run. Just remember to keep your grocery receipt handy since carts are checked at the exit.

So we went and it indeed had everything. The longest line was for Grill City. In all honesty, I feel like Grill City is a bit overhyped. The kare kare didn't taste like my father-in-law's. He makes the best kare kare. But you can't beat home cooking. Too bad my FIL is in CA. The liempo was good, but how can you really mess up grilled pork belly? However, I did like Sizzle. Their bangus sisig on a grilled platter was so delicious! I was jealous of my husband's pick. I also really loved the items at Valerio. Reminds me of Panorama City in CA. Everything here was light and bright and it smelled clean. Would I come back? Only if I'm in town. Next time I'll bring a big cooler.
