The employees were prepping the dishes. There were a lot of homemade old fashioned dishes. I loved the different variety of homemade cookies. They even had wedding cookies. They sold roasted nuts, homemade jams, and sauces, fresh vegetables and ice cream. The employees were friendly and the store had a very nice ambience.

When I lived in Atlanta, this was my go to grocery store, so imagine my excitement realizing there's one within a 35-mile radius of me now. Cue the happy dance in the parking lot. It's tucked into a large shopping center, so there's plenty of space to pull up, park, and prepare to spend more time (and money) than you originally planned. The moment I walked in, I was hit with the comforting aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, basically the grocery store version of a warm hug. On top of that, every employee I passed greeted me. Everyone was genuinely friendly and eager to help, which made the experience even better. I felt like a kid in a very upscale, health conscious candy store. If you're trying to eat better, this place makes it dangerously easy to stay on track. They have everything, fresh squeezed juices, exotic fruits and veggies, prepared meals, plus a quality meat and seafood department. Don't even get me started on the baked goods and yes they offer vegan and gluten-free pastries, self control was tested. I was especially impressed with their dairy free selection. There were plenty of yogurt and milk alternatives, which made this non-dairy girl feel seen and supported. One of my favorite parts was the snack displays. There were so many unique, better for you options that I hadn't seen anywhere else. I grabbed a bag of herb-seasoned popcorn on a whim and let me tell you, it did not disappoint 10 out of 10. The store itself is quaint, but don't let the size fool you I easily spent an hour exploring, especially the seasonal items. My husband and I pass the signs at least once a week heading north to Macon and finally decided it was time to see what they had to offer. After turning off the highway, drive slow because this quaint little country store is tucked away just a block down the road on a corner lot. We parked in the grass beside the store and immediately noticed the rocking chairs out front filled with customers happily enjoying ice cream and cobbler. Honestly, that alone felt like a good sign. Inside, the store is small but packed with goodies. They had a produce section with fresh cucumbers, onions, sweet potatoes, and the first peaches of the season. Of course, I grabbed a little bit of everything. They also sell salsas, pecans, candies, homemade cobblers, ice cream, and plenty of other tempting Southern treats. The gentleman working there, who I assume was one of the owners, was incredibly friendly and proudly told us the peaches were the first of the season, juicy now but even better as the season goes on. Naturally, we bought some, and wow... they were some of the sweetest, juiciest peaches I've ever had. Grocery store peaches could never. I also picked up a jar of tequila salsa because I had never seen that before, and it ended up being fantastic, spicy with a really balanced flavor. Definitely something I'd buy again. Before leaving, we had to try the peach cobbler. Now, cobbler is usually my husband's thing, not mine, but this may have converted me. It tasted homemade, loaded with fresh peaches, and wasn't overwhelmingly sweet like many cobblers tend to be. They also offer blackberry cobbler or a half and half mix if you can't decide. Overall, we were really impressed with this little country store and will absolutely be back. If you're passing through Byron on I-75, I definitely recommend pulling over and giving Barbour Farms a try. Just don't blink or you'll miss it!

I only wish we had been able to see the peach orchards and the packing equipment in action, but even without that, the visit was worth it. You need to need if you order from Dickey, you are getting "free" shipping, but you're paying 4.70 PER peach. The peaches I bought at the vegetable stand were both Georgia peaches and South Carolina peaches. Both were 7.00 for 5 peaches. You do the math. The peaches were absolutely delicious. Their cracking machine did a poor job with many busted, burred up and incomplete pecans. Out of 10 lbs. of cracked pecans I may have gotten 2 quart bags. Would not get pecans here ever again. Milk, it's not worth going clear across town just to buy milk, then stand in line for 15 minutes just for that. Sugar. You really need to watch this. For some reason, sometimes the bags will be hard as bricks. Sugar isn't supposed to be a solid mass. Eggs. Everyone has played the price game with eggs. Aldi's never seem to be consistent. one week the large are larger and the next, smaller. I don't even look that direction anymore. Frozen seafood. I used to buy their frozen shrimp until I found a frozen fly in it. Sometimes you buy that stuff, get it home and it'll smell like dead fish. I have had too many bad experiences with their meats. Ribs when removed from the package should not be slimy. To me, the layout is long and narrow.This makes it harder to get around the store. Why'd they do that? Getting out of the store is something you should be careful of. It's a strange layout and confusing. Confusing means someone may hit your car. I noticed at another aldi's they had four ice cubes for 49 cents. Yes, four basic ice cubes. Really? You think that's going to make it in this August heat? Each time I visit aldi's, there is one less reason to go back.
