Larriland Farm - Pick your own strawberries

Such a treat. I love coming to Larriland each year to grab fresh fruit. I typically come for…read morepeaches but was so upset when I planned to go and decided to check online and the season had ended. It was just open on Monday and then closed by Friday. I was so sad. I still decided to go and buy some from the farm stand and to see if they at least still had some of my favorite products. They did I was happy to grab some up. They have Taharka Bros ice cream and some flavors I had never tried before so I grabbed a couple, don't judge. Not stating if they made it home or not but why would anyone let perfectly good ice cream go to waste on a hot ride home. Come on now, make it make sense lol. If I'm back in the area during harvest time, I'll definitely go back to grab up some fresh produce.

I went to Larriland Farm with a few friends this past Saturday afternoon for blackberry and peach…read morepicking, which are two of my favorite fruits. I've also never picked either fruit before, so I was very excited. The farm is huge, with many different sites. We stopped by the farm market first to look at various produce. There were so many fresh fruits and vegetables (if you are lazy and don't want to pick any, you can buy it here). We were very enticed by the strawberry milk (which sadly, I didn't end up buying). I did buy a bag of dry ingredients to make corn chowder for 14.99, which I enjoyed four meals of! First, we went to pick blackberries. I got one of the cartons for 9.99 (there's also a smaller one for 6.99) because I got greedy and wanted lots of blackberries. Unfortunately, it took me at least an hour to fill up my carton with the blackberries that looked ripe since most of the ones we saw looked more like raspberries (bright red, incredibly tart, and most definitely not ready to be picked). Very occasionally, I'd find a really fat and juicy blackberry, which immediately got plucked off the tree and straight into my carton. I tried some of them after picking and a lot of them were pretty sour even though they were ripe. I was quite sad that I labored in vain. Overall, it was a very hot day and with the scarce amount of ripe blackberries, I should have just bought them at the farm market. Finally, one of my friends and I went to pick peaches while the rest of them went to stare at sunflowers. We were done in less than 15 minutes since we picked ~30 for the 19.99 box (the cheapest option). The peaches were great, 2-3 days after picking. I've been enjoying them with other friends so far. If there's anything I'd recommend picking from Larriland, it's the peaches. Fun time at the farm, the prices are a bit steep for picking, and I'm still kind of sad about the lack of sweet blackberries.

As usual, I arrived early on my recent visit because the best produce in terms of quality and…read morequantity is available when the store first opens. The selection of parking spaces were abundant as well as the amount of available grocery carts. My only problem with some of the carts is when customers leave trash like circulars, boxes and other items for the next customer to discard. Since Aldi is unconventional in terms of their carts, customers should be responsible and courteous enough to remove trash and other debris before returning the cart and locking it in. The last time I was there, someone actually left apple and pear cores in the cart. The Aldi brand has come along way over the years and keeps getting better and better in my opinion. Though I personally only purchase the fruit and vegetables, organic brands and some pantry staples, they have a variety of everything for pretty exceptional prices. I have rarely had a problem with any of my purchases, which is one of the reasons why Aldi is one of my weekly stops. In any instance where there was a problem, the issue was resolved without a problem. The store is clean and pretty well-stocked. Like I said earlier, I discovered that the best time to visit is when they first open because everything is so abundant with a neat presentation. The seasonal items are usually a good buy. Additionally, I like venturing down the miscellaneous aisle where I have discovered some great finds from cleaning products to deeply discontinued items.

Aldi always has some nice deals in grocery items. This store is in my top 5 rotation for low cost,…read morequality, and location. I love that they have a great assortment of fresh produce for a decent price. They also have fresh meat, diary, frozen food and shelf food items as well. You can catch weekly deals of items that are mostly one-time deals, so get them if you can! One thing I was not crazy about this store is the limited staff, but I believe that is one of the reasons the prices are low. You do have to pay 25 cents for a cart via a system of inserting a quarter in the device on the cart to unleash it, but when you return the cart and place the plastic insert into the previous cart's device, you'll get it back. You also need to bring your own bags or purchase them in store (paper or plastic). Some stores have self-checkout (such is this one) which is a great option. All in all, a decent grocery store with fresh, low-cost items.

We nearly bumped into other customers multiple times. It was an unpleasant and frankly disorganized experience. There were also hundreds of empty boxes sitting on the shelves waiting to be discarded. It really seems like they don't have an overnight crew for stocking and cleaning -- everything was being done during the busiest hours, which felt completely mismanaged and not cool at all. Lidl off we go, it is down the street.
