Aldi isn't a "super" market like most people are used to. It is small, maybe the size of a Trader Joe's, and they don't carry 'everything'...so, If you're looking for tons of junk foods or big name brands, then go to Ralph's or Pavillions. But, if you're looking for really good and amazingly priced produce this is definitely the place to come! Their deli meats and nut selections are pretty good too. The cashiers were really friendly and I will definitely be returning to this store! Yes, you do have to put a quarter in to get a shopping cart... BUT when you put the cart back where you got it, guess what?!? You get your stinkin .25 cents back! It's just so people who are traditionally too lazy to walk the extra few feet to put their cart away are now inclined to do so. Not really something to shun the entire store on. Yes you bag your own groceries. Yes you put a quarter in to get a shopping cart. But people are really complaining that this is too much work to do some grocery shopping? You have got to be joking. The whole purpose behind all of these minimal changes that we aren't generally used to as grocery shoppers in this area, is so that the store can offer us wonderful prices. Sure there aren't many big name brands available that we are used to, BUT THAT'S OK! We live in a world where we are offered variety instead of buying the same old cookie cutter brands. In my opinion, I feel that if you are going to walk into a store like this, walk into it with an open mind and understand that this store is based out of Germany so of course everything is going to look a little different to us. I've tried a handful of items so far and I am very pleased. My best advice is to try their products for what they are, instead of comparing them to other brands and already hoping/anticipating it will taste like what you expect. Oh Aldi...although I'm not a tree hugging Prius driver, I am all for individual responsibility and being smarter. At Aldi, you won't see dozens of abandoned shopping carts clogging the parking lot because shoppers need to go return it to get their 25 cent deposit back (greatly reduces cart theft and salary to hire a cart fetcher). After you check out, you push your goods to a massive table to bag your own groceries (as it's done in Asia, maybe Europe too). The result? Less idle employees around that just chit chat and text all day. I love this. Now, for the less than satisfying part. While I found the produce section to be the best part (clean, good looking veggies, good prices), the rest of the store is very random and lacking. Selection in terms of variety of brands is minimal. If you are fine with a generic, non-nationally known brand for much of your groceries, you'll be alright, but if you must absolutely have, say, Kraft brand (just an example, they might've had Kraft but I can't remember) mac and cheese, you're outta luck. The whole store is only about 5 or 6 large aisles, with some totally random stuff thrown in like half an aisle of patio furniture and gardening. There's no way I could fulfill my weekly grocery needs by coming to Aldi, not even close, unless I drastically change my eating habits. They could improve by making better use of their decent square footage. In contrast, Trader Joe's is similar in size (albeit way too cramped), doesn't carry name brand either for most items because they have their own brand, and yet, I feel as though I could satisfy most of my weekly grocery needs there because they have a huge selection of food. This is a great market that is extremely affordable. At first glance, the Aldi brand products look as though they could be subpar, but after trying them out, I found the quality to be great! Almond milk, Greek yogurt, dairy, organic bananas, and eggs will now be bought here for their ridiculously low prices. I also tried some of the thin mint knockoffs and I have to say they were actually comparable- which is a dangerous thing because that makes them a quarter of the price and accessible all season. The chocolate wafer bars are good, too- as are the chips! Again, this place is super affordable. My receipts have yet to hit double digits! read more

Others may beg to differ but I really like Aldi. The grocery is fresh, inexpensive.. and taste great! I've been twice and bought a bunch of items to last me weeks and paid less than $30 each time. A good amount of their items are Aldi's brands and it's just the same as anything generic you would buy at a regular grocer. Shopping here might seem a little mundane because they don't play background music in the store and it's quiet. The aisles are dull and items are still in crates like you'd see at Costco. You have to put a quarter prior to renting a shopping cart but you earn your quarter back once you return the shopping cart. Small store. Not a lot of variety/ selection. It's all pretty much store brand things, which makes it difficult to compare to the national brands. They aren't much cheaper, which means Aldi is making bigger profits charging the same price for something that would cost them less to produce. The cashier was very fast, to the point of making me feel I was in her way or something. She rushed through scanning our stuff then told us to step away to bag it up. I didn't like the lack of personal feel. It was very cold and uninviting. The quarter thing is an excellent idea, but being too small and rushed out the door makes me not interested in this store. Your parking lot is not safe!! There was a guy that was wearing all black with a black beanie on & a black back pack. He was also limping. He was snooping around looking at other peoples cars & begging for money from your customers!! You guys need security in the front of your store 24/7!! He asked another costumer if she had any money & she said "sorry i just had enough for this cart!! He looked at my mom & didn't even have to ask my mom just said "no sorry!!" & we walked off!! Normally I go to the location in Maryland, USA so I was excited to see they built one here in California. Actually they originated in California but couldn't find any information. They charge you 25 cents to use the cart. You get your quarter back when you return the cart. This is to make sure people don't abandon the carts in the parking lot! I've been counting down the days until we got an Aldi's within decent driving distance and it did not disappoint. Some people are complaining that it's 90%+ off brand, not name brand, but most of the time there is very little difference between the 2 other than price. That is one of the reasons this store is so inexpensive. I don't need name brand hot dog buns, or gummy bears, or brand milk. It really doesn't make much of a difference to me. Aldi's swears by their quality and thus far they've delivered. We went on a Friday late afternoon and it was a bit busy but not overly so. The entrance is one way in and can quickly cause a traffic jam. We had to ask people to move out of the way so we could pass. After that though it was pretty easy to navigate the store. The Good: The produce had great prices! I don't think we found anything over priced or where we could find it cheaper somewhere else. I was happy to get a Caesar salad kit for $1.50. The grapefruits cost $0.39 each, on-the-vine tomatoes are currently $0.39 a lbs, and the avocados cost me $0.25 each. The only thing I didn't find very good is the organic produce. The selection wasn't as great as I thought it would be but the store is new; hopefully they will start to carry more later on. In the end we bought a full cart worth of food (over 1 weeks worth) for approximately $80. The store has a great layout (with the exception of the store entrance), it's easy to navigate, and everything is well labeled. It carries the basics of what everyone usually buys. Specialty items are best bought at the higher end markets. The individual selection of most packaged or canned products is minimal; you get regular, organic, and often times gluten-free. That's about it! It helps make the shopping experience a quick one if that's your goal. The okay: you bag your own groceries which is fine but I was expecting to package things as the products were being rung up. What they actually do is put everything back into your cart and you go to the wall where there is a wall-length counter for you to sort and bag your groceries. The bad: After leaving I noticed some of the charges on my receipt were different than what was advertised in the store. Some items were charged at a higher rate than advertised and some were charged at a lower rate. In the end it was a wash so it wasn't worth complaining about. I recommend people watch as their items are being scanned to catch any discrepancies. I'm going to give Aldi's the benefit of the doubt and assume it's because the store is new with new employees that need to update or correct the listed price or their computer system needs to be updated. New grocery store in the area? I'm game. In comparison to other grocery stores in the area this one is fairly small. I would describe this place as a cross between the 99 Cents store and Fresh and Easy. I think its a good option if you are on a budget and a multi-person household. I picked up a little bit of everything - snacks for the kids, produce, pantry stuff, and some fish. I have to say everything tasted pretty good with the exception of the fish. It didn't have the freshest taste and the fish comes pre-seasoned. So I wasn't a fan of that. The variety of produce is slim, but I was able to pick up the basics. If you are looking for variety at an inexpensive price point I would suggest going to the local farmer's market instead! All in all, I spent a little bit over $50 for two giant bags of groceries. I didn't mind bagging my own groceries, and they do offer paper bags in case you forget a reusable one. I spotted them underneath the checkout belt. I'm not sure if I would go back since it was extremely crowded and I can't purchase meat/fish items. But still a good market! read more

I was pretty excited to come inside and go grocery shopping. My coworker told me she went here and ended up buying food that were really inexpensive. I was sold and went the following weekend. Carts are chained together and I must admit I was pretty confused. My boyfriend had to speak to the cashier and see how we can get a cart. I guess you have to put a quarter inside to use one and you can receive it back when you're done with the cart. Thank you to the cashier lady for lending us a quarter and the compliment she gave me. Continuing back to my experience. I felt like I was at Costco. For a moment I was thinking maybe I needed a membership to shop here because their dried foods were so inexpensive!! My boyfriend and I enjoyed shopping here, it was a really neat experience. We browsed through every single isle, totally impressed of what food they had to offer. There wasn't that much produce. Eggs, milk, bread, and juices were okay. There are a couple of name brand products located inside. The only downside I would have to say is their produce. If you don't know how to put out fruits and vegetables like me, do your research on how to pick out perfectly ripe fruits and crispy vegetables. The very next day I decided to cut open my pomegranate, it was all black and moldy inside. I shouldn't have to pay for a moldy pomegranate. Would I shop here again? Yes, only for particular items. I found this Aldi market in Cerritos to be quite nice. Ok, so maybe they don't have all the normal "brands" you are used to seeing, but they have their own brands to choose from. I must say, the quality of their brands is pretty good. The store itself is about the size of a CVS pharmacy. It has about 5 or 6 long aisles of most items you'd be interested in from fruits, veggies, cheeses, meats, cereal, chips, breakfast items, milk, yogurt, juice, bread, etc. The prices are very good, too. On my first visit, I spent about $80.00 and the food lasted me almost 3 weeks. On my second visit, I spent about the same and was able to fill my fridge and pantry with lots of goodies. Easily, at Ralphs, I would have spent $125-$140 for the same "brand" items. Large avocados for $0.45 each. Boxes of cereal for $1.39. Hot dog buns for $0.69 for a package of 8, half gallon of 2% milk was $1.47. I even bought some good, center cut pork chops, chicken and deli meat for sandwiches at reasonable prices. Listen, if you are on a budget or just want to save a few bucks off your normal grocery bill, give this place a try. I've shaved at least a good $40 bucks off my normal grocery bill and now I have extra beer money :P read more

I have been to Aldi about 5 times since then opening. I absolutely love this place, the prices are unbeatable. The savings really are between 49 and 50% Yesterday I ran into a Vons to pick up a few items since I was so far from Winco and Aldi, and my jaw dropped at the prices, compared to Aldi. The staff is very friendly and helpful, always stocking shelves and there to lend a hand. My toddler is very friendly and loves to sing. When they started to sing the ABC'S during check out, the cashier sang along, it really made my toddlers day. read more

I was excited to check out Aldi since I had been hearing commercials for it. I was deeply disappointed and ended up buying only 2 things... (bananas and a box of cereal). Here are some cons from my perspective: -their fresh produce section is pretty lacking. It barely had any fresh vegetable choices and the ones they did have were pretty sparse. I was expecting something like Trader Joe's, but it's more like 99 cent store selection. -I didn't know they didn't carry many generic brands. It was hard to find normal things that we typically would be able to find in regular grocery stores like your fave brand of chips or noodles. -they don't have a butcher station. I mean this isn't a must since TJs doesn't either but they don't have a great selection of meats and organic choices. Maybe I was over expecting the selection? I typically shop at Chinese grocery markets, TJs, Whole Foods, and I use to love Fresh and Easy. This market was a let down.. If you are looking for a market for fresh produce, I wouldn't recommend this place. :( read more

This is an extraordinary review for a place that does business just a little bit differently. Let's go back and have a little review of Aldi's history. The concept I've running a grocery store this way was born after post World War II Germany was recovering. So with that in mindset everything is done for efficiency of labor, price and space. The philosophy of its founding owners was to offer quality food at the best price. This means that some of the selection can be limited, on certain things such as fresh herbs, for example you won't really find tarragon if it isn't in demand for that location. But, in this particular store you will find a wall of cheese I'm talking about at least 40 different kinds from at least 10 other countries and an aisle of liquor which for a small store has a pretty decent variety. You must bag your own groceries, and *GASP* have to push a cart in place of one of their own workers in order to get back back your quarter. On the positive side parking lot is clear of anything possibly hitting your car because the majority of people usually do put the cart where it belongs and if someone happens to leave it behind you can pick up a whole $0.25. Now thinking in the best positive light if you need to stay within a food budget and want to have a place that helps you reach that goal this is it. If you're truly not happy with one of their off Brands there is a double guarantee read about it on there official website thankfully I haven't had to use it in my two years of shopping here. I always buy my Staples here milk nuts eggs cheese butter pasta rice and meat are all reasonably priced well below a full-service supermarket prices. Fruits and vegetables are always something in season and you won't find exotic fruits here. You also have organic and gluten-free options which are very reasonable in terms of finding the equivalent in the rest of the world you can spend almost triple the amount of money outside of this store. There are also some special buys where you can purchase something useful such as a blender whisk and chopper for $20 it's great! Items like this are only temporarily stocked and when they're gone they're gone. I find myself splurging on the imported Foods yes things brought in from France Italy Holland Germany Poland Ireland Kenya . I'm talking bread, wine, chocolate, coldcuts, cheeses, coffee is jams and quite a few confectionery sweets. All in all my suggestion is that you see it for yourself and how you fit in and want to continue being their customer. Love Aldi! Back when I lived in Texas, my mom and I were huge frequenters of Aldi. When one opened over here, I was easily ecstatic. Everything is pretty inexpensive and I suppose quality. The store itself is really large, but very bland and with tons of space. Some days I go and it's super quiet with only me, a few other customers, and the employees around and it feels like I'm in a horror movie because it's too creepishly quiet.. Despite all of that, I save a lot of money buying my groceries from Aldi. I've noticed some reviews state that they have a variety of produce but I'm wondering what you guys are cooking because their variety was rather slim to me. For instance, I was looking for fresh spinach but all they had were those box packaged ones. However for their cheap pricing and quality products, I can't complain too much! read more

I just got out of Aldi and I usually shop here all the time but today I had the worst customer service ever. The black cashier with the long twisted hair was the worst ever. No good morning or anything definitely looks like she hates her job. She took all my items out of my bag and through them to the next customers items then forgot what were my items to charge. What would have been great communication would have been to ask the customer could you please take your items out so she can charge them. I came to this store based on a friend suggestion and i was impressed at first with the idea of cutting down my weekly grocery budget of $20 down to $10 but i think after coming here several times I'm not sure if i see the hype. Yes technically some items are cheaper(snack items,eggs,produce) yet i don't really see the cost difference here, most of my budget usually goes towards the protein and normally i can get a family picnic pack of chicken for $5-6 dollars at Ralphs but here i can get a smaller pack of chicken for $6. I do like the concept of what Aldi is and the store is definitely has a variety of items but im looking to get the most for my money and a one stop shop here i feel like certain items are much cheaper elsewhere. If you need a shopping cart it cost $0.25 but when you return the cart to the designated area you will get back that same $0.25 so they did cut the cost of employees that go collect the carts. When it comes to bagging groceries its similar to food 4 less where you have to bag and put away your own groceries. So they definitely cut the labor on this as well. Bring your own Grocery bag unless you are willing to buy one. Only 1 register open with one cashier. The cashiers here are friendly and the store is an experience within its self. I've had two major quality issues with products from this store (moldy pickles and bugs in dill weed) and I wrote a letter of complaint to the corporate headquarters. The man who called spent time lecturing me on why I should have kept the packaging, because the supplier wants to see it, and that way I can get a refund at the store. Sorry but when I found bugs in a brand new bottle of dill weed I wasn't thinking clearly enough to SAVE THE PACKAGING! I just wanted that stuff out of my kitchen ASAP. I ruined a whole meal because of that dill and there were big particles all over my kitchen, which was horrifying and hard to clean up. Also got moldy pickles (almost brand new in the fridge for less than 2 weeks) and threw those out after taking a picture. The customer service guy kept going on and on about narrowing down the products, and offered me a $5.00 gift certificate which I declined. (I spend $5 in gas driving to Aldi!) Anyhow by trying to save money by shopping here I lost money on substandard merchandise that had to be disposed of, plus the inconvenience. Their produce is sad looking. I picked through it, I would never by produce there. I Have tried other various off brand products from Aldi. Tomato sauce was really sweet, too much sugar in it, threw it out. (Marinara type) Frozen thin crust bruschetta pizza, no flavor at all. Pita chips... So-so. Orange juice and milk, both fine. Cookies and chocolate, pretty good. I'm going to stick with Trader Joes for now. I know their products, I never have to throw them out for any reason at all whether it's taste or quality. Plus if I get something I don't like from Aldi (which seems to be the case most of the time) I can't be bothered to drive from Long Beach to Cerrito's to return it. read more

Decided to try this store out, especially after the rave reviews. If you are looking for frills and tons of variety go elsewhere. If you want to stock up on canned veggies, fruit, and some frozen goods come here. You will save money on those items. However, the meat I have found cheaper elsewhere. A dozen eggs were .89 cents and at Vons or Ralphs try $3.19 and the produce section was priced well too. Some condiments like relish, mustard, pickles are cheaper than at other places. Bought a huge bag of Russet potatoes for $1.75 where at Vons or Ralphs they would have been $4.99. They have potting soil cheap too - but didn't buy it as I buy organic soil but still good price. You have to pay .25 cents to get a cart but you get it back when you return the cart. Employees were extremely helpful. You bag your own groceries. Still prefer Trader Joes or Sprouts for more variety though. read more

I've been coming to this location since it has opened. I love how I'm in and out in less than 30 mins. Great place to restock your fridge and pantry. Healthy, organic products at more than affordable prices. Andrea at the register was very helpful. She noticed that I had a cart full of organic goods and saw that I had a carton of regular grade eggs. She offered that there were organic brown eggs for 99 cents. I went ahead and got 2 cartons of brown eggs instead, a lady next in line over heard our convo and benefited too. Little things like this keep a business running successfully. This is the second ALDI store I've been to and what a waste. The products in the store make no sense. It's only half of each collection of products so you can't buy everything you may need.
