Uh, I don't know about the store. Not really impressed. Although people have been comparing it to Trader Joe's, it's no where near equivalent. It's more like Smart & Final and just a step below Fresh & Easy (oh how I miss Fresh & Easy). They have a small meat section, so you would have to go to a full grocery store. I only come to Aldi for just a few items. The selections aren't all that great. And the quality is subpar. Yes it's affordable and you could possibly feed a family of 4 for a week spending less than $100, but I think I will stick with Sprouts, Trader Joe's and Albertsons. I've been coming to this grocery store (when I have enough time to drive to Cerritos) for the past couple of months now. Things to consider: -bring 25cents in order to "rent" a shopping cart -bring your own plastic/paper bags since they dont provide any. You can, however, buy some for 10cents or 15cents -more than 1/2 of their selections are store brand, so this might not be the preference of "brand loyal" customers -they usually have only 2 counters open and they dont bag your purchases for you Despite some of the negative reviews, i can say that I'm satisfied doing my grocery here at Aldi! Their prices are very reasonable, you can easily save 25% or more off of your regular grocery bills by shopping here. My favorites are their "specially selected" and "simple nature" products to which you can't really tell much of a difference compared to popular brands. I love this store! I'm from Jersey and we love shopping at Aldi, and I was ecstatic when I realized that they were coming to Cali! I just spent $70 and I have enough food to feed myself for 3 weeks! I've read the negative reviews of this place and I'm not surprised. Sadly, they scream Cali pretentiousness. No offense to the awesome folks here in this sunny state. :) Here were the complaints and here are my rebuttals: 1. "You pay a quarter for a cart". You get the quarter back and guess what, my car wasn't scraped and dinged by stray carts in the parking lot. How can you complain about a quarter for a cart, but not rejoice about saving 50% on your grocery bill?! 2. " You bag your own groceries." Think Food for Less and Costco. The savings is in the low overhead. It took me 6 minutes to bag my groceries. Again I saved at least $70 bucks, that makes my labor cost damn near nothing! Bring a box and thrown your food in there, you're going to go home and unpack all that deliciousness anyway. Good for the environment, good for your wallet. 3. "It was a bit crowded, I give it 2 stars" C'mon! I can't be the only fool who has stood in line at Von's for 10 minutes with a bag of salad, bottle of wine and some cheese totally $29? We wait, why not wait for higher quality food at a lower price?! 4. " the off label brands." Good people! Read the ingredients not the name of the brand! This is a German based grocery chain and many of their products have to match the food standard of German foods. Less preservatives, dyes, non GMO, gluten free ect. I could care less if it's named " Clancy's" what I like is that a bag of chips has 3 ingredients: potatoes, oil,salt. I got hungry writing this. California was just attacked by Aldi! The prep work was actually pretty darn suspenseful for a momma that goes grocery shopping on a regular. Billboards, radio slots, and mailers were targeting the areas affected by the new openings. I missed my local Aldis grand opening extravaganza but found my way to their door the very next week to see what the hype was all about. Verdict? Well.. It's okay. I think growing up in this area has gotten the public accustomed to these larger markets with tons of items to choose from. Aldi is smaller then most places and can't even compare to other compact and wholesome stores like Trader Joes. The quality on the store brand items seems similar the other generics out there. Price point is fairly cheap but not jaw dropping. I don't have a lot to say about Aldi. I've been once and didn't fancy it very much. So, there you have it! read more

I have no idea if the cashier lady is having a bad day with her bad attitude or if it's because I'm Asian, but she was not pleasant to observe/ interact with. There was an elderly Asian in front of me (what a coincidence?) and you can see the irritation in her face when she was ringing him up and placing his items in the side booth, and the audacity to say something under her breath since the elder didn't hear her well the first time. When it comes to my turn, the same cold treatment as if she thinks I can't speak or understand English. Not even a "hello" or " here is your receipt." She just proceeds to place my purchases on the side booth and leaving the receipt there. It's no surprise she is a bit more patient with a Caucasian elder who was rung up after me. Maybe I'm being a bit too sensitive? Definitely not. I've been to ALDI in various locations such as in San Bernardino, and employees there were so much better treating their customers from diverse backgrounds. I normally do not leave reviews, especially negative ones. However, I work in healthcare and I'm expected to treat all my patients/ clients with respect and compassion even when I'm having the shittiest day. I hope ALDI at this branch does a better job of cultivating cultural sensitivity and disciplining employees to treat their customers with respect. read more

I'm a believer!! With money being tight and a house full of kids to feed, I've been on the hunt for a decent low priced store since the Walmart Neighborhood store in Hawaiian Gardens closed. I've tried the Grocery Outlet (review forthcoming), and initially was very pleased, but ALDI TAKES THE CAKE!! I generally spend about $300 a week on groceries. Last weekend I did my weekly shopping solely at ALDI and saved 1/3 of my overall budgeted money. I walked out with an overflowing cart for $203. That alone made it a win for me. People who complain about the cart rental concept are way too entitled. Get over yourself. It ain't that serious...and I usually pay it forward by giving my cart to someone I see in the parking lot just pulling up. The milk, eggs, produce and meats alone are good reasons to shop here. They pay their employees higher wages than most because there's less overhead...hence the cart rental (means nobody needs to pull carts). You bag your own stuff (means they don't have to pay extra baggers). I get it and I love it!! If I couldn't find something I was looking for, I quickly regrouped and found a suitable replacement to TRY. So far my kids love everything except the 24pk hot dogs. Oh well. Good thing it's something I rarely purchase as it is. For people like me, ALDI is a winner. read more

I didn't buy anything cuz I don't keep quarters when I walk and they don't have baskets...25 cents for a cart that you get refunded later is utterly stupid waste of my time, they don't have hand baskets either go figure...I rather have service than people who sit at the cash registers like they don't really care...No frills = Who cares about the consumer in my opinion... The store was under stocked as well.. Love this place! I can remember being in Germany in January of this year thinking of how great of a store it was and wishing we had one back home. Little did we know, Aldi had plans to expand from the East Coast (didn't even know they were in the U.S.) to the West Coast. The store is great: most of the items are priced lower than other stores which is why I'll continue to shop there. You'll definitely save some money going here. In terms of the shopping cart, everyone needs to relax that it is a different concept than they are used to. $.25 to rent to shopping cart is set in place to keep prices in the store lower. Less people working, the cheaper the products will be for everyone. I like the idea a lot. Aldi, I hope you'll put a store in Long Beach, because you'll see me there all the time! read more

IDK. After hearing how great this store is and that it was moving into the neighborhood, i decided to check it out after i got off work. 1) Its really small. Trader Joes is bigger than this. 2) Doesnt carry some items, more or less a variety. 3) This place actually reminded me of Fresh & Easy. All I can really say is the prices are ok for now (it is still a grand opening)and that the staff is friendly (thats a plus). Maybe this place isnt really for me. Im not sure yet. Once was enough for me. Customer service was ok but I didn't think their items were all that. You may find some items cheaper and mostly brands I've never heard of. If you don't have a quarter on you, you won't get a basket unless you find someone outside that will let you have theirs. read more

My first visit to Aldi was actually when I was about to move from the Chicago area! I was glad to see a piece of "home" (aka Jimmy John's , Dunkin Donuts are here, too!) here in California. I was surprised by the number of interesting brands, their cost-saving/no frills concept that makes them different. It is a different experience from Ralphs/ Albertsons-- Sure you have to bag your own groceries, rent a cart, they do not accept manufacturer coupons, but it's not that terrible. As of March 2016, they accept 4 major credit cards too! Had I known on my visit today, I probably would have used my credit card! At the time I visited, I was able to get some fresh cranberry to make cranberry sauce- It is at least 2x the price at Ralphs and the same brand Ocean Spray! They also sell brand name items that you would be familiar with but it is not as common. I am not sure why anyone would compare it to Trader Joes. It's more like a Fresh and Easy that has more foreign brands. The produce selection is quite minimal but it does its job. If you're looking for a wider selection, then you would need to go to a big-box market. Would definitely visit again, but maybe not if I had a long list of grocery items to get. read more

Wasn't impressed. Produce was mediocre quality. No brand names that I was familiar with . Cashier checked us out and put all our groceries back in cart. We had to move to side table to pack our groceries in bags. Prices were not that good for all the checkout steps the customer had to go through. Shoppers have to rent cart for a quarter and return cart to get money back. Like I said, their prices weren't that good for all that. On the plus side, employees were friendly and there was good parking. Won't be back. read more

ALDI - Produce not the best - Grocery Near Me - Cerritos, California

My husband found this on the web. I believe they had their grand opening about a week ago I don't know much about the company but I do know that it's been around for 50 years in The United States and the. The shopping carts require a $.25 deposit to use it. We shopped there fairly early and the electric scooters were barely half with battery. The supermarket itself is a pretty good size. They offer quite a bit, but honestly for its size I expected more. One thing I expected the most was to find German beers and brought worst I didn't see a generous selection of imported beers norm common sausages eaten in Germany. I come from Carson, so it's a bit of a drive. I'm not sure if I would come back here. If I lived closer it's a pretty good supermarket, but I can find better near my home. read more

This place I guess is considered a discount grocery store? The items here are random and temporary so you can't always expect them to carry the same item next time you come in here to shop. But the quality of the items are usually pretty good and the price is even better. You can technically just shop here and trader Joe's and will be able to make a delicious meal at a better price than shopping at Ralph's or whatever giant supermarket chain you use. read more

The selections sometime are limited and there are not much fresh produces to selected from. Lines are ridiculous and rather than open another register, they take turn in cashiering. I guess one register opened for a huge line is their norm. Sometime work business and personal business should be left unsaid around customers. As I've heard today an employee complaining to her manager while I need to pay for my items at the register, "god, I'm exhausted and I need a break and I just clocked in haha." read more

Aldi has been my major grocery store since pandemic and has provided diversified food and ingredients nationwide. It not only supply groceries with low margins but also local freshes at good quality. This Aldi store is kind of set far back from South Street and it would be easy to miss if driving by and not looking very carefully. It is right next door to the soon-to-be-closed Babies R Us store. One good thing about it is the store is never insanely busy, at least the times I have gone there on the weekends. Prices on many of their popular items are cheaper compared with name brands. The quality is comparable also. I've purchased a few packages of 3 different kinds of cookies and they're quite good, rivaling the quality of the name brand products. They carry meat and produce, as well as the staples like eggs, bread and milk. I also noticed they carry a limited stock of items like gardening supplies and electric fans. The store itself is very clean and well-kept. The employees who work here are friendly and always willing to help. If you happen to purchase a lot of goods, you have to bag them at a counter across from the cash registers. Before entering the store, if you need a shopping cart, you need to stick a quarter in the slot in order to unlock it from the cart storage area near the front door. You get the quarter back when you return the cart. This is a great idea because it keeps the carts from going astray in the parking lot and reduces the chances of cart theft. New grocery store right across the street from target. Not sure how it will do right next to target, but I went in today for the first time and it reminded me of a fresh n easy. Very clean store, though it's only been open a month. They have fresh veggies and a great selection of cheeses. The most inconvenient thing about the store is to use a shopping cart you have to deposit a quarter. I don't carry change! That was annoying and in sure it will continue to be for many guests. read more

Oh god, now I'm one of those people that leaves a yelp review. This warrants it, however. The white guy with black-rimmed glasses was rude as hell. I was looking for bread and he was stocking it, but I didn't know that until he yelled behind me "Go ahead, take a look!" Okay, sir, you could have told me politely to stand by while you stock, I'm not a mind reader. Love this store got some great cooking wear cast iron and love them. They have great knock off's of major brands and they are even better than the name brands some that I tried. I just love the Aldi stove top stuffing mix and the a few other item we now try Aldi brand before we go back to the major brands they are like 65% less than the name brands I wonder if the major brands are making the Aldi's brands too? read more

This place is a hidden [in plain sight] gem. Everything here is cheaper than target, Walmart, other places to go for groceries & stuff. They have some really good deals here, after my girlfriend showed me this place, I will consistently come here before going other places, then hit the other store for the things Aldi did not have. They were very sanitary and followed covid-19 guidelines, so that's reassuring. Cashier was friendly, no complaints here, I will be back soon. read more

This is probably my favorite Aldi location, but I don't visit often as it is a bit far from my house for it to be my regular store. This location has a better selection of vegan and vegetarian options, and seems to get more tester items like vegan cream cheese. This location is clean, and decently staffed. The store itself is easy to miss as it isn't easily seen when driving by it. The first time I came here I missed it, and have to drive around to find it. read more

The cashier Ashley treated me quite rude. Another cashier overcharged me for a pack of toilet paper, then I went back and took a picture of the price tag and product and showed it to Ashley. Then she didn't believe it and went all the way to the aisle confirming the actual price which I understood, but she was acting like it's my fault to make her line longer without any apologies. Love the convenience, the place is clean, decent prices but their customer service is the worse! The manager or whatever she is ALWAYS has an attitude. Last time I was there, there was one cashier & a big line and when the cashier called for backup, the one with the attitude was saying, "If they don't like it, they can go to Food 4 Less" blah, blah, blah. I am totally addicted to this store. The prices are great. Be aware that most of the items are not the brands you are used to. This is actually an advantage...in nearly every case these "off" brands are as good or better than the national brands. They're cheaper too! You will need to bag your own groceries, but there is a long counter provided for that purpose. read more

This is the first Aldi I've been to and it was spectacular. It's small and has no restrooms. It's a good place for a walk and also buy off-brand items. I do wish there was more selection, though. I find the prices to be good. read more

I was looking forward to seeing what the hype was all about. We were told about Aldi from a friend who had these back home. First off we were shocked to find out you have to pay a quarter for a shopping cart. There was a line at the front door and we didn't understand why. People were digging in their pockets and purses for a quarter. Even when we left, we just gave our cart to some woman who couldn't find change either. The store itself is clean. It smelled like lysol when we went inside. The food selection seemed okay but it's a lot of off brand stuff. That's how the prices can be so low. The items we did buy tasted odd when we later tried them. Like their imitation taki's were stale. In some instances, especially food items, it's better to go with a brand you know. They had other things like dish soap that would be okay to get here. read more

I'm pretty regular at this Aldis, and every time the cashier slams our food in the cart. They just throw it in, because I think they're being faster. Items like pretzels and chips end up getting crushed. It shows a lack of care and attention. Please take the time to put the food properly in the cart. I am from Germany as some of you know, and yes, Aldi has been there forever. I remember shopping at Aldi back in the 70's. I cannot believe the comments about the quarter for the Cart (that you get back) or packing your own stuff. Hey, EVER BEEN TO EUROPE? (guess not..?) That's right, every Super market (well, in Germany, Denmark, Belgium, etc. anyways) has the Shopping carts for a Euro. WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL? Saving money not your thing? Go to Pavilions. Or Albertson. Whatever. Use your effing coupons. You can't stop Aldi from growing. They have done it in Europe, then here on the East coast, now the West cost. They don't stop because a few spoiled Yuppies don't have quarters in their pocket. LOL! And yes, bring your own Bag!!! That's right! Leave your Credit Card at home. In Germany, they now sell Laptops, Big Screen TV's, all kinds of Electronics right next to Bread, Nutella and Butter. Oh Aldi...although I'm not a tree hugging Prius driver, I am all for individual responsibility and being smarter. At Aldi, you won't see dozens of abandoned shopping carts clogging the parking lot because shoppers need to go return it to get their 25 cent deposit back (greatly reduces cart theft and salary to hire a cart fetcher). After you check out, you push your goods to a massive table to bag your own groceries (as it's done in Asia, maybe Europe too). The result? Less idle employees around that just chit chat and text all day. I love this. Now, for the less than satisfying part. While I found the produce section to be the best part (clean, good looking veggies, good prices), the rest of the store is very random and lacking. Selection in terms of variety of brands is minimal. If you are fine with a generic, non-nationally known brand for much of your groceries, you'll be alright, but if you must absolutely have, say, Kraft brand (just an example, they might've had Kraft but I can't remember) mac and cheese, you're outta luck. The whole store is only about 5 or 6 large aisles, with some totally random stuff thrown in like half an aisle of patio furniture and gardening. There's no way I could fulfill my weekly grocery needs by coming to Aldi, not even close, unless I drastically change my eating habits. They could improve by making better use of their decent square footage. In contrast, Trader Joe's is similar in size (albeit way too cramped), doesn't carry name brand either for most items because they have their own brand, and yet, I feel as though I could satisfy most of my weekly grocery needs there because they have a huge selection of food. So my parents went into this grocery store yesterday and had a horrible experience! As they checked out, the cashier "assisting" them overcharged them quite a bit. First it was an overcharge of approximately 10 dollars, but then my mom pointed it out and the lady (her name was Jacquenetta) became irate. She kept saying that my parents were wrong and that she was right, when my parents actually calculated it. My parents showed her where she went wrong (she was charging them for more pizzas then they were actually buying) and my parents kept pointing that out. She wouldn't listen at all! She wanted them to finish checking out without correcting her mistake. So my parents stepped aside and recalculated just to make sure. It was busy at the store and it was a long line and my parents were doing their best to be courteous to the cashier being that she was the only one checking people out. My parents saw that the mistake was valid so they called out a manager who was passing by. The manager looked it over, agreed that the cashier made a mistake and she corrected it for them. Then the cashier was so upset to give my parents the difference back, she gave so much attitude when giving them their money back: no apology or anything. My parents own their own business and know when customer service needs some help. This place, this lady, needs some help. Only upside to this place it seems, which is why we didn't give one star and gave two, is their prices are really good. Other than, sad story. read more

Today was the grand opening of the Cerritos Aldi and I don't understand the two reviews that precede mine. The first, a five star, is dated prior to the opening of this store and has a photo of a nearly empty store. I don't know how they could have gotten this photo unless they were an employee. I was there fairly early on the first day (today) and the place was jam packed. The second, a two star, complained about lack of name brands, the check out process (which relies on customer help), and use of quarter to secure cart. These are all points that are advertised by the store as ways they keep their prices down. And it is really very odd (I mean suspicious) that she complained about the quarters to secure a cart because today, since it was the first day, they did not require quarters. The staff was distributing the carts for free. The reviewer also said the prices were not that good and the produce was mediocre. I strongly disagree about the prices, and the produce I would describe as good but not excellent. The only thing I did not like today was that it was so crowded, but I imagine it will be less crowded after it has been open for a few days. Even crowded, the atmosphere was fun and friendly. The check out process is different and was a little confusing at first, but the check out person was super nice (not just have-a-nice-day "nice") and explained what to do. It was not a big deal and is quite easily worth the lower prices. I did find the prices to be very good. You can find cheaper "Franken-food" (trans fat and HFCS concoctions) at some low end grocery stores but I don't know where you can get cheaper actual food. The pricing did not seem to be the gotcha pricing that many stores have: very low on a few items purchased in a specific way but they get you with other highly overpriced items. I won't do all my shopping here but I will definitely come here regularly in the future for the great prices and friendly (non predatory) atmosphere. It will be a pain to remember to bring a quarter, but I don't think that is a big deal. read more
