The lady here is the worst. Worst customer service....sarcasm, as well as insults to customers is the normal here it seems.

They have such a wide selection from body care, hair care, oral/dental care, skin care, pet care, candies, pins, stickers, crystals, oracle & tarot decks, books, pre packaged tea blends, supplies for your craft, for tea, so much loose leaf tea, GIANT herb selection on the back wall that you can get by the ounce and the owner can blend them for you. They also have a free bin/stand that has masks, covid test, baby supplies like bibs & diapers, kitchen supplies, and so much more. The stuff I got out of the bin was 1/4 oz of puck smudging leaves which I feel like the universe knew I needed this. It's been a very hard week on my husband and I.. we walked in feeling heavy and walked out feeling so happy. Thank you so much for everything today! This business is a must go to for all herbs and teas!! It is 10/10! The prices are also AMAZING. In this economy, their prices are more than affordable! They also have tea out by the checkout for free which just made me light up! We had the butterfly pea tea and it was absolutely perfect on this super hot day. Also, it knocked my husband out lol He went and fell asleep in the car! This was such an amazing find and we found our new home shop. Thank you so much green wisdom, our spell casting shop (instagram: @moon.magick888) will be using herbs only from here from now on! Please support this beautiful shop owned and operated by black women!!

I got there at 11am but it wasn't open yet so I called but voicemail was full so I waited until the lady got there which was about 20mins. I was able to get there before anyone else and got someone on one questions answered with no rush. There is a small parking lot and some street parking depending on when you go. The shop was clean and organized and loose leaf herbs and teas can be customized right there on the spot and the prices are super reasonable. I'll be back!

By the time I recognized that big supermarket chains specializing in Far East Asian foods had…read morebecome a thing, H-Marts was the de facto place that my family went to (because I always needed my kimchi and soybean sprouts). Yeah, we went to quite a few Japanese super centers (mostly Mitsuwa) when we could (mainly because my young daughter was so into Japanese popular culture back then), and was impressed at how clean they were and polite the workers seemed. But they never had the range of products that we needed and prices ranged high. I mention this because we never really had any reason to go to a Chinese supermarket. So 99 Ranch has never been really been on our radar, even though the signs are prevalent in the areas that we visit. 99 Ranch was founded in 1984 in Westminster, CA by Taiwanese immigrants. Tawa Supermarket is the parent company (still controlled by the founding family), and also owns 168 market (a smaller grocery chain specializing in Taiwanese foods). The parent company is also involved in the manufacturing and distributing of house brands. There are sixty-six 99 ranch markets across the country. They didn't have the large selection of fresh Korean products like Kimchi, various home-made banchans, and such (since it's not a Korean supermarket). But on a simple thing like medium-grade rice, it was a great selection with many, many choices. For example, 15 lb bag of rice ranging from Kokuho Rice to Kokuho Rose to Kokuho Rose Heirloom. As for popular meat cuts (for things like hot pot), the meat quality seemed better (Waygu was common) for cheaper prices than the Korean competitors. They had a large seafood area (though nothing as big as what you would find in nearby Vietnamese supermarkets). They provide free cooking (frying/steaming) services, along with the standard cleaning services on fish purchased. There really wasn't anything negative that bugs me when shopping at a H-Mart: aisles filled with stocking carts making it difficult to pass, customers who think they have the entire right of way with their carts, high prices on things not on sale, and workers who aren't particularly friendly. So will still need to go to H-Mart for bottled kimchi and certain marinated meats (and of course my soybean sprouts), but it's nice to have more choices.

I love markets. I was in the area and stopped in for a quick look at the offerings and do some…read morelight shopping. Pretty standard for the 99. I parked on the side of the building, which is less congested. Please come and create your own adventure.

My daughter and I were in the area and wanted to really browse the store. They had a beautiful selection of fresh meat and seafood, the prepared foods items were piled high and looked appetizing in their case, and produce was fresh and good looking. They also carry many top organic and gluten free food brands, health and wellness products and freshly prepared juices at the juice bar. They even offer freshly baked cookies in the bakery, kept on a warming tray. The aroma was crazy! This time we decided to grab lunch from their hot and cold bar. It was the only miss, in my opinion. The roast vegetables, baked herb chicken drumsticks, and tofu peanut slaw were moist and fairly tasty, but the entree selections featured an Asian theme and they were mediocre - spicy Asian vegetables, beef and broccolini, kung pao chicken, whitefish in sauce. My daughter chose mostly from the salad bar and she enjoyed hers. Their poke bar looked more appetizing, but I don't think I would return for that. The only other negative was no toilet paper in any of the women's restroom stalls.

A big plus is that they offer 10% off for CSULB students, staff, and faculty!

I was down the street at Curry Lounge for dinner and my friend wanted me to have the ultimate cultural experience. He told me to order Meeta Paan. I was under the impression I was having dessert. This was not that. I'm Mexican, this was wild! I took one bite, tried to swallow it and puked. I tried so hard to hold it down. This flavor profile was nuts! I did enjoy everything about What-A-Paan, the man helping me at the counter was watching his soap opera & assembling the Paan, he was very happy and kind, complimented my dimples--he said saffron was the best flavor, I trusted whatever he was doing. I ordered 3 pieces to take home and share with my family So basically we still have 3 pieces left. I know this is very traditional and has medicinal properties--although this was not something I'd likely try again I am very thankful for the experience. Hope you enjoy the photos and video!

Wasn't in search for pot, paan is what I got…read more Paan is an Indian post-meal mouth freshener & digestif. Paan comes in many variations, from salty to herbal, and is used in Hindu ceremonies. Made from the betel leaf, I wanted to expand my culinary profile & give paan a try. I've seen betel nut/leaf featured on the Travel Channel & other shows. Known for it's intoxicating effects (some say similar to a dram of whiskey), my research has led me to believing betel nut/leaf's intoxication occurs only when combined with slaked lime, for the absorption of the alkaloid stimulants. Plus, it causes the red staining of teeth. Unfortunately, the combination is carcinogenic, leading to tumors, especially oral. The man tending the store, the paan wala (paan maker), greeted me as I walked in. All the various toppings reminded me of an ice cream/frozen yogurt shop. $3 a piece, I wanted to try 2 types of paan, but the paan wala made me 2 meetha paan, before I could correct him. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=UDWcWkc6o3ulLwZ0pm0H6Q&userid=xsT4KZTu_KnOVavtuXn4RA https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select_video=u4mUH2VBqEzWQvatgjjHpw&userid=xsT4KZTu_KnOVavtuXn4RA Meetha (sweet) paan- https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=_S144lYYhnraiOdNv687YQ&userid=xsT4KZTu_KnOVavtuXn4RA Coconut, candy coated spices & other accoutrement, wrapped loosely in a betel leaf, the meetha paan was akin to an after dinner mint, a spray of Binaca, and Chiclets all blended together. I could taste the aromatic blast of fennel seeds & cardamom upon first chew. I enjoyed the sweet paan, albeit a little too sweet, for my taste. Assuming I might feel an energy boost from the betel leaf, similar to coca leaf, I actually felt a bit tired. But, could be just me, too. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=t4QI7UY1l-O5BnUXnVmVKA&userid=xsT4KZTu_KnOVavtuXn4RA Service was good. The paan wala was hospitable, and answered questions I had. There are a few parking spaces in front, with street parking also an option. Scratch off paan from my to-try list. While $3 does seem a bit much, and I can buy the topping ingredients from an Indian grocer, I experienced paan the authentic way - from a paan wala assembling everything together right in front of me. Not a treat I expect to desire often, I am intrigued in trying other types of paan. Knowing I have What-A-Paan local to me, I can always stop by and purchase a paan or two, whenever I choose.
