As an update to my previous reviews, I finally ended trying the pulled pork sandwich today which was quite good. The meat was well cooked, very tender, moist and had a nice smokey note to the meat. Sandwich itself was quite large and served on a fresh Brioche bun with barbecue sauce of choice. This sandwich just furthers reinforces my opinion that They definitely know how to smoke their meats at this business which I greatly appreciate where smoking meats is a serious hobby of mine. Overall one off the better restaurants in the area and one that you should check out if you are in the Harrisville area, especially if you are a fan of smoked barbecue meats! read more

The Brew Haus is the best restaurant I've been to with accommodations for food allergies, and they have great food for the people in your party that don't have allergies. I was able to give them a list of all of my allergies, many of which were not the typical allergens (peanuts, dairy, soy, etc.) and they customized the dish to meet my needs. I wanted a rice dough gluten free pizza without any onion powder in the sauce, and they made the sauce from scratch to ensure it only had ingredients I could eat. They know pretty much every ingredient in their food. The rest of the party had steak hoagies, and mango chicken which they loved. The wait staff was extremely friendly and didn't mind checking with the kitchen for several of my ingredient questions. I highly recommend the trip to Harrisville MI. read more

Had a bad pizza experience at a place near our home the week before our trip to Harrisville, so when we came here we were ready for some doughy redemption. We found it! Alcona Brew House had a light crowd on an October Sunday evening. We sampled a few beers and chose a pint of the Alt to go with our meal. Full bodied and malty with a nice bitter finish. We ordered a "Main Street" pizza--pepperoni sausage, hungarian peppers and carmelized onion. Just enough meat, a savory tomato sauce, lots of mozz, with a good kick from the peppers. Usually we like a thinner crust, but we weren't complaining. The server came by regularly to make sure we were doing OK. This is a must-stop if you're touring the sunrise side. read more

Love this place! All your typical bar food with an upscale twist. Besides offering seasonal menus they cater to people with food allergies. They even have Vegan options. Their smoked meatloaf dinner is classic comfort food. My friend had a chicken pasta dish that was a daily special which she said was excellent. Great food! Our bartender was attentive and friendly. The owner introduced herself and was highly accommodating to my inquires about celiac safe items. She even gave us a look at their allergy matrix and recommended gluten free dessert! We had the pulled pork w/ bbq sauce on the side along with gluten free fries! Yum!! The sweet bbq sauce and smokey sauce were excellent. We had no room left for dessert, but ordered a can of gluten free IPA beer to-go. We will definitely be back. My sister and I are staying at State Park and stopped in for dinner after visiting a couple lighthouses and rock hunting. I ordered a flight of craft beers. All were delicious! I also ordered the Caesar Salad with grilled chicken. My sister ordered the Cuban. Food was excellent. Cortney, our server was extraordinaire! The place has a German flair. As someone who has a food allergy (gluten) this place was absolutely amazing. First, the host asked if we had any allergies before we were even seated. Then I was given a special allergy friendly menu that may be the most extensively detailed allergen menu I have ever seen. They not only had the foods I could eat listen out, but they had a chart that showed allergens for every menu item. They also had pictures of their dedicated gluten free broiler, toaster, etc. THEN the owner literally came over to our table and explained everything I could eat on the menu, she said her children had a lot of food allergies so that is why it is so important to her. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious. They have fun flights to try of multiple different things. The atmosphere is pretty good too; it was a nice chill vibe. Alcona Brew Haus is a true gem in Northern Michigan. Prior to visiting the area this past summer, my family and I decided that this might be a good place for us to have Father's Day Dinner since we have food allergies and had seen good reviews about this place. I am so glad we did! The appetizer pretzel and french fries alone are worth five stars, but the customer service was worth five more. The owner was there and when she heard that we had allergies, she personally came out to our table to explain what they do to ensure their guests with allergies feel comfortable and confident in their ability to serve them. She explained how she is a food allergy parent, discussed what they would do to prevent cross contamination, and checked on us throughout and after our dining experience to make sure everything went well. You could see that they take so much pride in serving guests with allergies. Others in the food industry could really learn a thing or two from them. I was excited to try this place after reading about it on social media and hearing that they had vegan options. I follow a whole food/plant based diet and try to avoid oil/sugar as well so vegan is the closest thing to the way I eat. I rarely can find a vegan option or entree at a restaurant that isnt a plain/ordinary salad. This place had multiple options even vegan cheeses for the pizzas as an option (I usually have to just leave the cheese off of a traditional pizza. The service was good; waitresses all were attentive and friendly. The owner walked me through the vegan options herself. Aesthetically pleasing environment. We ordered the warm pretzel with mustard as an appetizer (it came out only a minute or two before our entree so we'd hardly had time to take a few bites before our meal arrived (no big deal) the pretzel was big/soft/warm and yummy! I ordered the "vegan noted" which had smoked tofu/veggies/teriyaki over pasta; it was tasty with a little heat. I would have liked a whole grain pasta rather than white pasta (like whole wheat or chickpea) but no real complaints as I rarely find vegan options at a restaurant so I compromise certain things on occasion. I got this with sweet potato fries. The fries were a bit too oily but still good My mom had the crispy chicken sandwich with fries. It was a large piece of chicken and she enjoyed it. I live out of state but will definitely be back the next time I am home to try the pizzas! So happy to have options! I hope this restaurant succeeds read more

We stopped in for lunch and we ended up eating like other was dinner!! The Jack Frost is a MUST HAVE beer, so much flavor (My hubby got it)!! I am a big sour fan & the Sour Patch did not disappoint, sweet, sour and tart! I had the Walleye, which was HUGE (see picture). Very crispy and flavorful! My hubby had the Jamaican Jerk Pork. Very tender pork with an amazing sauce. Guys, there is not alot of restaurants in the Hubbard Lake area. This place is about 20 mins from Hubbard Lake and worth the drive! read more

The restaurant offers meals that are well portioned and friendly to vegans and gluten sensitive individuals. My wife and I had a great visit with a waitress from Florida who was extremely friendly, knowledgeable about the area and extremely tentative. Definitely the place to visit if to have food allergies. Celiac, here, and the selection was superb. They had a limited menu given the holiday weekend, but I was able to get a side of their brisket. Wow, wish I could have ordered a full entree of the brisket. My main order was the gluten free mac and cheese. What a taste treat. To top it off, it was quite good! The Macaroni noodles were cooked perfectly, not mushy or grainy as GF noodles tend to be. I think the cheese sauce could have used a bit of smoky cheese added, but that is just my preference. Hubby got the chicken sandwich. Said it was quite good as well. I would say they use very good quality ingredients, and everything was very fresh. Service was above and beyond. Walked me through the menu, and were very patient. Only hope is that they eventually get a dog friendly area outside! That would be great! Stopped for a lunch on a Tuesday. First visit and loved it. My wife does not like craft brews but she really enjoyed their lightest beer. She liked the flatbread off the appetizer menu. I had a beer and the Cubano, both delicious. Nice clean feel and cozy ambiance, bathrooms felt brand new. I want to go back as there are more beers on the menu I want to try. The menu is not huge but I think they probably choose to stick to excellence instead of quantity. The servers were super nice and attentive. read more

This was my first time visiting this area, and I was pleasantly surprised to find this place. I have celiac disease and can't have gluten, and my husband does not so he eats everything. It's difficult to find a restaurant that is good for both the gluten-free folks and for the general population. My husband had their pizza, which looked amazing. Lots of cheese, and with a crust that looked homemade. He was very pleased. I had the gluten-free queso mac 'n' cheese. It definitely had a little kick! The owner talked about their processes for ensuring the food was safe for those with allergies or special needs, and she was clearly very passionate about her business.
