I can walk to Albertsons, so I do that when I need just a few items, instead of driving to Sprouts, Ralphs, Aldi's or Whole Foods. But my neighborhood Albertsons has gone dramatically downhill since the corporate merger deal with Krogers fell apart. So next time I'll drive to one of those other stores, where they still have cashiers. Albertsons relying on 100% self-check works ok, as long as no one wants to buy beer, like I did. I actually really love Albertsons especially for their deli meats and bakery. Everything always tastes fresh, and the butcher is super friendly and helpful, which makes a big difference. That said, for some reason the steaks tend to taste a little gamy and the fish is a bit fishier than what I get from Pavilions, Stater Bros, or even Walmart Grocery. Not sure why! The lighting in the store is also kind of depressing lately--makes the whole shopping experience feel a little dull. And I seriously miss when the Albertsons cookies came in the purple bag. Those hit different. The old Albertsons used to pass out free samples of bakery stuff too, which was such a fun touch. I still enjoy shopping here, but I really miss the old Albertsons on Muirlands that turned into a Floor & Decor. That location was the best--they had a Japanese food spot inside, a bigger bakery, a Starbucks with super friendly baristas, and even a frozen yogurt counter where you could get $1 root beer floats. Oh, and they had a Blockbuster inside! Total throwback. South OC is way overdue for a great grocery store. Nothing has quite measured up since. And I still miss all the old employees. read more

I had a really disappointing experience at the register today at Albertsons. When I asked the cashier how his day was going, he said "alright." I responded with, "oh, just alright?" which is a normal, polite way to make small talk. His reply, however, was, "yeah, unless you want to be my therapist," said in a rude and condescending tone. I found this response unprofessional and disrespectful. I wasn't being invasive, just trying to be friendly. Interactions like this really affect the shopping experience. I went to this store which was advertised to be open today until 3PM. I needed 2 items that I figured would take me 5 minutes maximum to grab and check out. I was told at the front door at 2:41 PM that I was not allowed to go in, they were closed! Then don't list 3 PM closing, list whatever time you stop people from entering. The employees at the door could have been on the job inside helping people, instead of outside policing them. I doubt I will ever shop here again. read more

I went into Albertsons yesterday and was so disappointed to see Sherri back on the registers. I was told she retired. She ALWAYS makes rude comments to me to try to embarrass me when I'm in her line. I avoided her line yesterday and she scowled me as I was leaving. Sherri has to be the worst employee of any grocery store I have ever been to. I think she feels entitled because she has been there so long. This is the final straw. This is my third complaint on Sherri. This has been my go to albertsons for a long time, simply because its the closest location to me. I had always ordered online and picked up - where they bring the order to your car. I had to stop doing online orders because the kids here who shop the orders have clearly never shopped for produce before in their own lives and don't know how to do it. I keep getting bruised up apples, black bananas, stuff that was clearly going bad etc. So I was here tonight shopping in-person for myself. Since I did buy online for so long, I don't know where everything is in the store. I went up to the only cashier they had working, an older woman with greying hair, and asked if she could please call someone to help me find something. She said no. Shocked, I asked if she could call a manager. She said no, her manager was too busy. I told her I would wait and please call the manager, who did come to help. When I was checking out with the same unhelpful and unfriendly cashier, I explained to her that I understand if they are busy or short staffed, but you should never tell customers that no you won't help them, because this makes the store look bad. The customers are the very reason you have a job and that your store is still in business. And you shouldn't be telling customers you refuse to help them. As someone who has worked in customer service management for 25 years, this is basic common sense. Customer service 101. Instead of apologizing, she argued with me that she disagreed! That she sees nothing wrong with telling customers they are too busy to be bothered to help them. I don't know who let this woman work in this role where she is interacting with customers, but they made a terrible mistake doing so. She has no basic skills to be talking to customers. So maybe let's take all our business over to the Lake Forest location where the employees don't mind making time for their customers. I know I will! read more

Don't shop at the store if you are in a rush!!!! Expect to wait 20 minutes in line even if you are grabbing a couple items. The lines are always long, because management refuses to do 'self check out'. It is very frustrating especially when you just want to run in and grab a simple item and try to get back out. I've been coming here for three years, because I live very close, but I always drive a few extra miles to Ralph's instead, which is further away just because it's actually quicker to get items without any lines. From what I was told customers tell them every day to get Self check out, but they obviously refuse to do self check out at this grocery store, thus causing long lines, expect to wait at least 20 minutes in line. read more

I LOVE this store. Every tiime I have an issue they fix it. They call me if a product I request that isn't is stock comes in. They have excellent employees working in their departments, specifically produce and deli. It is the only store around I can find certain items and they make sure they are stocked with them as much as possible. The store manager (Ashley I think) is very helpful, and is responsive to her customers. The quality of the food is also excellent. The store is clean, bright, and run very efficiently. read more

I have, here to fore, boycotted them on anything else, but had a craving for fresh coconut & I bought one, soo stupid, opened it up & of course it was completely rotted . This store is by far the worse I have ever shopped at. I've said it before, but now never again. Michelle at Starbucks is the friendliest, most hard working employee I have ever met. My vanilla frappacino with 2 pumps of caramel and 2 pumps of toffee nut syrup came out phenomenal! Pay attention to when they are ringing you up and what comes up in the register system vs how it is tagged on the shelf when you picked up the item. I've been overcharged many times but today was the day that put me over the edge. I was watching the pricing come up and there was a significant price discrepancy. Instead of apologizing, they immediately pulled out the flyer, made me wait for a "MGR" to come out while the cashier and I are trying to do the math at the register. Cashier called for assistance 3x before someone showed up to help. It was slowwwwww...not busy at all. Ridiculous. Store Director was defensive in her approach and just said it was human error. Bakery doesn't even run until 9am so you want fresh bread at 7am, you can't get it. Meat department is awful. Brown meat on multiple occasions. Mostly only USDA choice and very little PRIME meat. Poor organization. Sports beverages are on the other side of the store from ALL THE OTHER BEVERAGES. How do you have two FULL AISLES OF BEVERAGES AND PUT ANOTHER ONE LITERALLY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORE. This store is ALWAYS out of cherry coke and usually out of bottled Starbucks mochas? Why because they don't stand up to their vendors and tell them to stop stocking shelves with unwanted other flavors. I've complained to managers multiple times and nothing changes. read more

Every time I go and checkout I try to avoid her but sometimes she's the only cashier or the line is just way shorter that I check out in her register. This has been my favorite grocery store to shop at for a long time. However, after my shopping experience there last night, I wont return. I started at the deli, and got some Genoa Salami, Jenny-O Turkey and Reduced Fat Swiss Cheese. Got some yogurt, and bread and then headed towards the fruit and veggies. The seafood department smelled like something I cant even describe. It was HORRIBLE. Like rotten fish. Made it to the produce section, and it honestly smelled worse there. I couldnt quite place the smell, and I was shopping with a friend, who was also in the produce section, and we both said something at the same time about the smell. It was unbearable! I picked up some pre-cut veggies (Carrots, Cucumbers, Onions and Celery, and some Bananas). At the check out, I couldnt take it anymore, and asked what the smell was. I was told it was two things. First, "The meat department did a big dump of blood". Seriously? Foul. Second, "The sewer backed up into the store". Ok, foul. Just foul. I dont know what the additional nasty smell was in the seafood department, but I honestly dry heaved my entire drive home from the smell. And everyone was just working like nothing was happening. While checking out, one of the employees stated he needed to use the restroom. The manager asked if he was on his break, and when he said no, but he just needed to go quickly, he received major attitude. Totally unacceptable. So, tonight, I just went to make a sandwich with my deli meat for my lunch tomorrow... and a salad. I opened the Genoa Salami, and it smelled like rotten garbage. The sell by date was 8/7, yesterday. And it smells like rotten garbage. I decided to make my salad, and the onions and celery, that I just bought yesterday, and syrupy... and not good. Are you kidding me? At this point, I dont even want to bother with my Turkey or Cheese, I am so sick to my stomach. What a waste of money. If I had the time, I would return everything - but I dont. I truly am so disgusted by everything associated with my shopping experience in this store last night, and my spoiled food, I will not return. read more

The woman working at the bakery section tonight was extremely rude and unhelpful. I was just wanting to get a cake for myself for my birthday, and upon me walking up to the display case to look at the options she continued to clean the windows and didn't give me the time of day. She then yelled to ask if I needed something, and seemed frustrated that I was even there. At that point I almost turned around and left. Upon asking what kind of cake the ombré cake was, she checked the cakes but touched the sides of the cake with her hands and didn't put any gloves on. And when I asked the flavor of the other cake, she seemed angry at me for asking. I was really disappointed by this experience. The cake I did pick out, however, was beautifully decorated and delicious. I love coming here for my celebration cakes, but was sad to be treated this way tonight. read more

Eight people were waiting in line. The manager distracted and conversed with the only checker working, stalling the process. After a few minutes, she opened another check stand (she worked it). The bakery is putting day-old (or older) sourdough French bread on the rack with what is supposed to be the fresh baked daily French bread. It is stale and disgusting. There is no date on the packaging so it's not possible to check to make sure the loaf you pick up is fresh. Management needs to work with the bakery to correct this. read more
