On the whole, I'm a huge fan of H Mart. When they finally made their long-awaited expansion into…read morethe Bay Area, I was more than happy to make the hour-long drive just to check them out. In the years since, I still default to my longtime go-to markets out of habit/loyalty, but I've never been let down by H Mart either. Regardless of which one I'm at, I've never had a problem finding what I'm looking for. With that being said, though, I'd be lying if I said this wasn't my least favorite one I've been to. Compared to the others I've been to, whether it be around OC or back in the Bay Area, this location feels notably smaller. While they still have all of the usual offerings and staples, whether it be their fresh produce, seafood, meats, frozen goods, and pantry staples, the range and depth of options feels comparatively lighter (fewer brands to choose from). What's more, parts of the store feel a bit cramped to maneuver around, especially when the store is really busy. With that being said, we've still been able to find what we're looking for, their meats, seafood, and produce have generally been fresh, and they still have a solid selection of sushi and prepared foods to choose from (they also have a couple of food counters inside). Much like the store itself, the other parking lot here feels a bit small as well, especially given how many popular stores and eateries there are in the complex. Besides H Mart, there's also a Daiso, Baekjeong, SUP Noodle Bar, 85 Degrees, and several other eateries and businesses. It may not be so bad on weekdays and at off-hours, but I imagine finding a space on weekends and at peak times can get pretty competitive. One other thing that we've found to be kind of annoying is that both times we've been here, there were folks soliciting customers as they were going in and out of the store. Now, that's not H Mart's fault, and they do try to shoo those folks away, but it doesn't necessarily make coming here any more appealing, especially with how aggressive some of those folks seemed to be (we saw one woman practically harassing her as she was trying to rush to her car). Despite how I haven't exactly loved my experiences here, it's not like they went terribly either. Every time, we've been able to get what we needed for potlucks/BBQ's with friends and get out of here relatively quick. What's more, it's not like it would have been enough to affect my affinity for H Mart anyways. More than anything else, this just makes me like and appreciate the one by me in SF that much more!

My mom wa visiting during the holiday season and she wanted to prepare a homemade seafood paella…read more We tried going to our normal grocery stores to buy fresh seafood and we couldn't find things like mussels, crab, squid, etc. My bf suggested visiting here so we gave it a try. They have a large parking lot, but it's also pretty bus at times. This is a big grocery store with a wide variety of Asian foods. I got some shrimp chips which I like and cannot find at other stores. The seafood section was PERFECT! They had such a wide variety of seafood from fresh in fish tanks, to frozen in the open freezers. I would definitely highly recommend visiting for fresh seafood and Asian foods. The place is pretty crowded and we did look out of place, but I didn't care. People were friendly and even if they had limited English they would try to communicate with us and help us. It is a pretty crowded space so be aware of that. They form one long queue for the checkout and go sorting through the lanes. Overall I have a new go to place for seafood.

Customer service is non-existent here…read more I bought two boxes of soju and came home to put it away and one of the bottle was broken inside. Called them to ask if they could exchange the broken bottle and the lady that answered basically told me theres nothing she could do unless I have proof that it broke there. I always buy boxed soju and never had this happen so I never thought to check inside the box. Mishandled there cuz I drove straight home after buying. She also added that I should have caught it and not bought it. I would never in a million year do a review for the market but I am definitely not returning back to this location. Check everything before you leave the store is a lesson I learned. Looking at the bottom of the box I guess there is a little stain mark lol I should have caught that before buying according to the worker there.

While doing map research on which of the three Whittier-area Stater Bros. Markets is closest to my…read moreparents' house (the one on Mulberry in South Whittier, followed by the La Habra one, and finally the one in Whittier proper), I discovered that there's yet another State Bros. location in La Mirada, which was a total surprise, especially on the night before I was driving back up to San Francisco. So I had to try it out. As Stater Bros. Markets go, this one is on the larger side. I don't think it's as large as the (much newer) Whittier store, but most people would call this a full-size supermarket. Like all Stater Bros. locations, there are amazing deals to be had, especially on soft drinks and canned goods. You can bet that I loaded up my trunk with two-liters and canned beans and soups. I also bought some fairly sturdy reusable bags here at a good price. What surprised me more than the price, though, was the selection. One of the great features of this supermarket is that there's a single cross aisle that runs right through the middle of the normal aisles. That means that you don't have to zig-zag your entire way through the market if all you need is go down one-half of an aisle; you can simply zig or zag early and go up the next aisle. The caveat with this amazing design is that the aisle signs are only at the ends of the aisles, not at the cross aisle, so you can't tell from the middle what's on either side. Remedy that one major design flaw, Stater Bros., and I'll gladly raise you to five stars. OK, maybe not. There weren't enough people working here for how crowded it was. Not that it was very crowded, and that's kind of the point. There were only two checkout stands open, and there were also very few employees stocking or cleaning, which is highly unusual for a Stater Bros.

The person who was helping us had 0 nerve and very rude! He wasnt happy to be there. It was a mistake when he was scanning and i brought to his attention. We already paid and difference was more than $10 for the purchase. Instead of apologies, he gave us the worst attitude. The other location, most likely they tell you about the promotion for example if you buy 4 nachos you'll get one free and etc. but this person didnt offer anything and when i started asking he got irritated! For me this place, despite the cleanliness was lacking the most important part customer service. Also, it was interesting that there was a line and non of the employees were jumping to open registers! Even in sales floor, they were disappearing when they saw the potential customers. So, the problem wasnt only the cashier also clerks in sales floor. They have a big parking so at least parking the car was hassle free.

Of the three Korean supermarkets occupying the northwest, southwest, and southeast corners around…read moreBeach Boulevard and La Mirada Boulevard/Malvern Avenue, H Mart, Zion Market, and Super 1 Mart (formerly Hannam Chain) have a clear pricing hierarchy. (H Mart is generally the most expensive, Zion Market occupies a comfortable middle ground with frequent aggressive sales, and Super 1 Mart tends to be the most budget-friendly for general and imported goods.) I particularly like Zion Market because it strikes a great balance between price, selection, and quality. The store carries a tremendous variety of fresh Korean produce that I simply cannot find in the Central Valley, along with snacks, frozen foods, prepared foods, and an excellent selection of banchan. Many items are frequently discounted, and the weekly produce specials--including seasonal fruits--make it especially worthwhile. This location also stands out for its convenient parking and clean, well-organized layout. High-quality Korean produce and an extensive selection of Korean groceries are sorely lacking in Fresno County, where I have called home for the past five years. You appreciate these Korean supermarkets even more after moving away from one. Zion Market carries a vast selection of Korean staple vegetables and fruits, often at very reasonable prices, along with competitive pricing on packaged goods. The produce selection is particularly impressive, with fruits and vegetables often available at peak ripeness. The selection extends well beyond produce. They have a massive variety of fresh meats and seafood, Korean cooking staples, traditional snacks, trendy items, and hard-to-find Korean specialty products. Whenever I shop for meat, I always have to pick up my Korean staples: samgyeopsal (unmarinated pork belly), galbi (beef short ribs), and bulgogi (thinly sliced marinated beef). Of course, no Korean grocery trip would be complete without a huge jar of kimchi. Zion offers plenty of varieties, as well as a convenient selection of pre-packaged banchan. Some of my usual choices include myulchi bokkeum (stir-fried anchovies), seasoned squid or baby octopus (ojingeo-chae/nakji-jeot), crispy kimchi pancakes (kimchi buchimgae), soondae (Korean blood sausage), dotorimuk muchim (seasoned Korean acorn jelly), pyeonyuk (pressed meat), and dububuchim (pan-fried tofu with spicy sauce). If I am shopping specifically for bargains, I tend to come here for the cheaper fruits, vegetables, and packaged goods compared with the Korean grocery alternative just up the corner. The seasonal fruit selection is especially appealing from mid-August through mid-October, when Korean concord grapes and Korean pears give way to persimmons, pomegranates, and other autumn favorites as the season progresses. I appreciate these Korean supermarkets so much more now that I live away from the Central Valley's limited Korean grocery options. Zion Market remains one of my favorites because it combines affordable, high-quality produce, extensive Korean grocery selection, ready-to-eat foods, an excellent variety of meats and seafood, numerous kimchi options, and a clean, organized shopping environment. For me, it offers the ideal middle ground between H Mart's higher prices and Super 1 Mart's bargain-oriented approach.

This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a grocery store…read more Before shopping, my family and I had lunch at the tonkatsu restaurant next door and bought some bread afterward. Inside the bread bag was a partially eaten container of seasoned seaweed that I had been eating. Before I even entered the market, the security guard at the entrance stopped me and, in a confrontational tone, asked, "What's this?" I showed him the container and explained that it was simply the seaweed I had been eating. I asked if there was a problem. He replied that the market sells the same product and that it could be misunderstood. I completely understand the need to prevent shoplifting, but instead of politely explaining the situation, he spoke to me in an accusatory manner from the very beginning and even criticized my tone of voice. I've shopped at many grocery stores, but I've never had a security guard confront me before I even entered the store. It completely ruined the shopping experience for my family. My children were surprised and upset by the security guard's rude behavior. They kept asking me what had happened and why he was talking to us that way, which made the whole experience even more disappointing. To avoid any further misunderstanding, I left the container of seaweed at the entrance before going into the store. This was an extremely unpleasant and disappointing experience.

0 STARS -- EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM A MANAGER…read more I have lived next door to this Ralphs and have been a customer for approximately five years. This store is literally right next door to my home, and for years I regularly patronized this location without having any significant issues--until dealing with a manager named Cisco. I had an incident with Cisco last year where I felt he unnecessarily involved himself in a conversation I was having with another customer and escalated the situation. I made complaints about that incident previously. Since then, I have largely avoided this store because I do not want to have any interaction with him. It is unfortunate that a store located right next to my home has become a place I feel uncomfortable shopping because of one employee. Tonight, I went into the store simply to purchase my items and leave. I noticed the self-checkout area was not open as it normally has been at that time. Another employee was trying to assist me and went to ask whether the self-checkout could be opened. When the employee came back and said it could not be opened, Cisco came over. I explained that I was simply trying to check myself out and specifically asked him, politely, if he could open the self-checkout. I even acknowledged that we have had issues in the past and that I was trying to avoid any interaction with him. Instead of simply responding professionally, he focused on the fact that I had said "please," repeating it back to me in a way that I perceived as mocking and antagonistic. I told him that I had already asked politely. His response was essentially that he was not going to do it. At that point, this was no longer about whether a self-checkout was available. It was about how a manager chose to interact with a customer. I was attempting to avoid confrontation and simply make my purchase. I should not have to feel like I am being antagonized by a manager when I am trying to shop at a store I have patronized for approximately five years. When I left the store, security and police became involved. This was extremely upsetting and completely unnecessary from my perspective. Ralphs needs to seriously address what is happening at this location. A manager is supposed to de-escalate situations, provide professional customer service, and represent the company appropriately--not make an already uncomfortable customer interaction worse. I have already made complaints about my experiences with Cisco, so this is not the first time I have raised concerns. The fact that I have continued to encounter the same type of behavior is extremely disappointing. This is bigger than simply saying, "I don't like this employee." Customers should be treated with professionalism and respect regardless of whether an employee personally likes them. A manager should be held to an even higher standard. Ralphs: please investigate this situation, review the conduct of this manager, and take appropriate corrective action. At this point, I do not believe Cisco should continue serving in a customer-facing management position. I am asking Ralphs to seriously consider removing him from this location and/or taking whatever employment action is appropriate based on the investigation. I have been a paying customer of this store for approximately five years. I should not have to avoid a store next door to my own home because of one manager's conduct. Ralphs needs to do better.

A few personal favorites: - The freshly prepared food and salads - Organic fruits and veggies - The variety of pressed juices, probiotic drinks, and wellness shots - A nice selection of wine, beer, and spirits - Plenty of snacks (chips, salsas, dips, etc) - A good variety of meats, cheeses, and frozen items. - Can't forget the skin and health care needs. Some real winners for a fraction of the cost of big-name brands. ie. Vitamin C Serum and Daily Facial Sunscreen that my family loves. - Complimentary samples Depending on what I want to eat or cook at home, TJ's can provide most of what I need. There are some great items I've bought and will buy again, but there are also some disappointments. Overall, I like to shop at TJ's on the regular and am looking forward to the next trip.

Everyone knows about the bizarre Trader Joe's tote bag trend…read more I never really understood what the craze was all about. Luckily, I'm not one to get into trends like most people do. At least for the most part. Mom and I had a bit of time to kill and thought it a good idea to walk off the semi-huge lunch we just had. I figured this town center was a good place to do it. It was a plus finding a TJ's here, so out of curiosity, we decided to make a quick stop just to see if they happen to be carrying these ever so famous tote bags. And they did. And the sign says LIMIT 2. No biggie, we grabbed 4, 2 for each of us. While in line, I mentioned to Mom how much I appreciate this store for limiting the number of bags each customer can purchase. We have seen people hoarding them by the hundreds leaving many others out of opportunity to buy/own them. Miss Young-ish cashier must have overheard us and gave her unsolicited and unwanted retort as she sneered at us paired with snarky attitude and said, "Actually, the limit is 2 per household." Welp... that's not what the sign says. It clearly just says, "LIMIT 2." No hint of the word "household" anywhere. But that's all irrelevant anyway as I responded to her appropriately by turning to her direction, gave her a hard stare and said, "That's nice. She and I (while pointing at my Mom) don't live together." She couldn't hide her embarrassment. That look was priceless. This is exactly what happens when one makes false assumptions, so that's right: keep looking down and avoid eye contact as you complete our transactions. I love Trader Joe's, that hasn't changed. The low rating is about the cashier's attitude. I'd still come back, but that probably won't be awhile since there are many TJ's much closer to home. Will update as needed.
