My experience with Albert's Tailor was extremely disappointing. I took My Burberry trench coat to him for modification, and received back a garment with crooked stitching, seams sloppily sown and loose threads everywhere that I spent a while picking off. For a professional tailor, the quality of his work is unacceptable. Read through the other comments here for more clients with similar complaints of shoddy workmanship and poor quality control. This place is pretty cool, but I give less stars because of the final product: two pairs of jeans that are about 1/2" too short :( I asked for "to the floor" hem because they will be worn with sneakers. Instead I got just shorter than than, and even shorter when worn with any shoes. If I go back, I will just have them hemmed longer, but I never had to do this at my old master tailor. I do miss them, Newbury Tailoring in Boston. Anyway, $8 for hemmed jeans, and $15 for original hem, done in one day. He does let you know if it's unnecessary for the original hem, which I appreciate. read more

LOVE Albert. His new office is swanky, and definitely larger than his old place on Robson. He's super efficient - whatever you bring in and ask him to do, he'll get it done. He'll give suggestions and alternatives if the timelines are too tight for what you're asking, so it's totally realistic (I appreciate that!). And he works on Saturdays, so I can easily come by and get my clothes altered even if I can't make it after work (though he opens til 6pm). And he's the sweetest man! Note: if the door to the office building is closed, you have to be buzzed in. Don't just go around trying to yank those doors open, they won't budge and you'll look silly. I love this tailor! Everything I've dropped off has always been done exceptionally well. He'll even hem your pants or denim within an hour by request! Pricing is on the very cheap side, but the quality is next level in the amazeballs zone. Only issue is that he does keep sporadic hours. You cannot call this establishment a place of business, if they do not honour their posted hours of business. Came down to their location on Granville downtown. Saw another couple of people waiting outside....bags in hand. Door to building is locked...no markings or indications of business whatsoever. Hours online say that he is open 3PM - 7PM, Mon thru Sat. Tried buzzing the intercom, no answer....got answering machine. Tried calling the phone number, no answer...got answering machine. The other two people who were waiting, gave up and left in the meantime. Wasted time driving downtown...getting parking...waiting for a pseudo-business to open up. Gave up and will take my alterations business to a proper establishment in future. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS. He obviously does not respect his customer's time! read more

I went to Albert in the summer for a basic hemming on mens dress pants. $10, and I got it the next day. The hemming was perfect length. Last month I brought him a few shirts to be shortened, for which he charged $8 each. I even needed one the same day as I wanted to wear it out that night, and he was able to do it for me. I would also give Albert 5 stars, but the space is really cramped and cluttered. As far as location and service goes, this is a GREAT tailoring service. I've trusted Albert with several pairs of expensive jeans to hem and he always matches the stitching to the original. I also had a pair of cuffed pinstripe pants that were too long and he got the shortened cuffs looking just like the original. I generally pay about $8 per job, which is just fine with me. The last hemming only took about half an hour. (Good thing Chapters is just a few steps away.) read more

Great quality tailoring work at a reasonable price. I've had a number of pants and shirts taken in over the last few months, and the work has been consistently well done. $9 for a pant hem and $18 to have shit sleeves/sides adjusted are a fantastic price point downtown. It's clear from the bags hanging in the shop that he gets a lot of work from nearby retailers (J Crew, Club Monaco, to name a couple) I only knocked a star off, as the business hours are a bit odd (though it is convenient on a work schedule that they're only open in the evening), but their posted hours online, don't match the real hours, 5-8PM. I needed a dress taken in and tried this place because of all the good ratings it has on Yelp. Their website claims that they are open from 1pm to 7pm, but I arrived at 1:09pm to a locked door and a business card tacked on their name plaque saying that their hours are now 1:30pm - 7pm instead. Ok, no biggie, I'll just go browse in the nearby shops for 20mins or so. Got back at 1:40pm and they were still not open!! Another customer was waiting in the corridor and we proceeded to wait a few more minutes until a guy in the office across from Albert's told us that although the business card says they'll be open at 1:30pm, Albert usually doesn't arrive until 2pm. Okayyyyy, I was slightly annoyed by this but I guess I could check out the Aritzia sale for 20mins. The other customer said that he'd been waiting since 1pm so he was just going to come back another day. This time I waited until 2:15 before I went back and surprise surprise STILL NOT OPEN!!! Another customer was waiting outside with an armful of suits and proceeded to tell him his ordeal with Albert - he'd left 5 suits with Albert to be altered a couple of weeks ago and Albert just kept delaying and delaying to the point where he has no clothes to go to work in! I decided that I was going to wait 5 more minutes and if they still don't open up I am just going to go. A few minutes later Albert arrived and proceeded to tell me he couldn't (wouldn't?) do the alteration. read more

After reading reviews, I've decided to try them out. I usually get my alterations done at stores where I puchase clothes. In this case it was Holt's. Due to their sales event, their alterations would take 10 days minimum. I took brand name shirts to Albert to shorten sleeves and length. Job took a day more than promised, but Albert did give me a call in advance. Total cost of job was $63, which was cheap I guess considering other fine tailors... But this wasn't a fine tailor. My two shirts had so many pieces of threads in and out of shirts. It was in all different colors too. When I checked the shortened areas, it had threads sticking out. I had to clip those off. I have asked for a bag, I was given grocery plastic bag. I felt sorry for my shirts that cost $600 combined to be returned to me like that. Overall, faster than norm (for Vancouver standards), below average professional job (cleanliness too); I give two stars. read more

You can pick up a pair of dress pants at Winners and bring it across the street to Albert. Beware of the tiny changing room/closet. The shop is overwhelmed with scraps and pins, and you don't want to step on anything sharp while you're out of your shoes and changing. read more

My favourite tailor in the city for the best price. Albert, whose wife works along side him now as his assistant, has probably hemmed 20 pairs of jeans for me over the last 15 years and he's recently started tapering classic suits I've had in my possession. I only wish he was open longer these days but it's much easier finding parking between 6pm and 8pm on Seymour then it is during typical business hours. He won't ever b.s. you and never overcharges. Albert is the bomb! The only reason I can't give him 5 stars is that his cramped little space would give any anal retentive person a horrid shock! There are pins and stuff EVERYWHERE. For instance, a mountain of jean trimmings from all the jeans he's hemmed lies near his sewing machine. Near the door the pile of boxes are decorated with yellow sticky notes saying "Back at 1:20", etc. Regardless of the seeming disarray Albert is fantastic. Many stores recommend him which is how we found out about him. We wouldn't trust our clothes to anyone else. As noted, cash only. Right above True Value Vintage which is handy when you find that fabulous vintage coat for $60 but the sleeves are a tad too short. Last time I was in, a guy came from Le Chateau (men's items are altered for free and they use Albert) and needed his suit altered for a wedding the next day (Thanksgiving Sunday) and Albert said, no problem - come back before 6pm. Whaaaaaatttt?? Who gives that kind of service these days?? LOVE IT!!! read more

Good stuff so far. Have taken a toj0 in for repairs after the sleeve cuff ripped. Cost me $10 and couldn't notice a difference from before it ripped (no threads at repair spot, etc). Also took a white silk/rayon shirt in for small hole repairs. Repaired with cotton, but still unnoticeable until examined up close. Cost $2 per hole. I usually drop off on Friday and pickup Monday/Tuesday. Will be getting a taper + some crotch repairs soon. read more
