After a recent service at another shop in a different state, the engine light came on. I searched Yelp for a trustworthy place and came across Alberto's, which had excellent reviews--and now I understand why. I brought my car in to have it checked out, and Jay went above and beyond. He carefully ran diagnostics to identify the issue, explained everything clearly, and offered thoughtful advice. His recommendation was to try a catalytic cleaner first and see if the light came back on. What really stood out was the time he spent with me, ensuring I understood my options, and the fact that he didn't charge me anything despite so much help. He also provided a few solid recommendations for future car care. If I ever have another issue with my car, I'll definitely be returning to Alberto's. read more

Thank you Eric! I called Alberto's after a warning light came on while I was driving to work in the Bronx. After looking up the symbol in my owners manual, I decided that it was the brake light and that I needed to take the car in right away rather than driving back to Brooklyn. Eric told me to come right over even though I was calling as soon as they opened at 8AM. When I got there I discovered that my "brake light" symbol looks a lot like "low tire pressure" -- no brake problem at all, just needed some air in my tires since it was 23 degrees outside! Wow! Just wow! Eric the owner is a busy man, but he will always makes the time. I came in for a/c issue hot air blowing. He explained to me the inner workings of that system and how it should never loose frion unless there was a leak issue. Well he found that issue in one of my vaulves. Eric removed it and fixed it. He's knows his stuff and the fact that he takes him time not to just fix issues but educate his customers on them is like I said WOW! This is my shop and he is my mechanic. I can't say enough about how grateful I am to Eric at Alberto's Auto Repair. We were stranded on a scorching hot day with a burned out clutch. He helped us arrange a tow and did the clutch replacement for a very reasonable price. He could have gouged us - we were in a vulnerable situation. I have been using them for over four years now. They never fix anything that doesn't need it, and go the extra mile to help you. They're certified, and I have been very satisfied with every repair. This is in stark contrast to many of the mechanics I've been to before I found Albertos. I drive to Albertos from 15 miles away (seriously) when I need something because I can trust them, and end up spending less. This is due to three reasons; (1) their price is reasonable (2) they know what they are doing so they zoom in on the problem where some other mechanics might try replacing this or that to "see if it does the trick" (3) they'll never cheat you I also like that they use their eyes and ears in test driving the car before and after the repair. Some mechanics (like the bad ones I used to go to )can't be bothered to do that and may be forgoing information useful for diagnosis. When diagnosis is not absolute, they think logically and are good probabalistically thinkers having a broad knowlege of many makes and models to draw from, knowing what tends to go wrong on whcih car at what point in the car's lifecycle. I strongly believe this has avoided uneccesary repairs because they get it right more than others seem to when a judgement call has to be made. Always genuinely courteous; they give good advice and have very fair prices. Every couple of years I come on here and give 'em a good review because - - before them I went about10 years without a mechanic that I really liked. I am suprised they are not busier than they are and more ppl in Manhattan, Westchester, and Bronx could really benefit from a mechanic this good, but I suppose people stongly prefer to go local and may not like the idea of going to this part of the Bronx. After 3 years in NYC it finally happened. I had to take my car to the mechanic. Many sleepless nights were had tossing and turning due to menacing nightmares of shifty mechanics. I have a 97 VW Jetta and after asking around at www.vwvortex.com Alberto's was mentioned. Family owned place that's been around a long time and they checked out with the Better Business Bureau. I dealt with the son, Erik who is a VW guy and he was great. Let me supply my own parts, caught some serious problems that my last two mechanics missed (or caused) and the price was very reasonable. The attendent at parking garage where my wife parks her car daily some how managed to hit our car and ripped off the bottom piece of plastic holding my front bumper together. Unfortunately we didn't notice this when leaving the garage so we where unable to have them repair te damages. While driving on the highways we heard some disturbing flapping noises. We pulled over and noticed that 40% of of our front bumper was hanging due to broken clips. We where extremely worried about how much this would cost. Our service mechanic said we have to order a totally new bumper which would cost an arm and a leg so left and decided to go to a friends mechanic in the BX. Let me tell you this. ..the previous mechanics I have been to all crooks. Erick worked on my car and fixed my bumper for just a FACTION of the price. HONEST MECHANICS ARE HARD TO FIND. My car made a scrapping sound every time I made a left turn. I was thinking something with my rotor but they told me it was just some plastic rubbing on it. They could've easily lied and told me it was something else. They're the best!! Will be going back if anything goes wrong with my car. read more

They explained everything to me as plain as possible. I came in to get an ignition coil replacement for my car...after they installed it..alberto took me out for a spin to prove everything was working perfectly...and it did I really recommend them to anyone who is looking for a good mechanic. I had my AC compressor replaced from Alberto's last summer on my 2003 Honda CR-V. It worked great until last week then seized up and wasn't blowing cool air anymore. With the hot temperatures here, and spending hundreds of dollars repairing this last year I was frustrated. I brought the car back to Alberto's Auto Repair last week and he took a look at it and confirm the AC compressor failed again and he would order a replacement under warranty since the part failed so soon. Let me be completely honest, the owner is stand up guy and kept his word. Not many places have stand up people like this anymore and actually care about their customers by doing the right thing. My Mazda was leaking oil for way too long. I was so nervous to get it checked out (car is at over 250K miles!) but their pricing was fair for the work required and they squeezed me in right away in the morning and my car was fixed before lunch! I have been going here for years. I actually deviated and it wound up costing me thousands. My transmission went out, I went to another mechanic who had it rebuilt, the month after the 18 month warranty it fell apart!!! Mind you I had gone to him months prior complaining, he claimed it was nothing! I went to Eric on the next round and he had me order one, from a wholesaler, it's been 2 years now the car runs like a dream, did I mention it was half the price with Eric!!! He was honest he doesn't believe have of the guys who claim to rebuld transmissions actually do, and he was right, my car has over 150k miles, they have been taking care of it for over 7 years now and it runs great. There is always one great mechanic in any neighborhood. Albertos is that place in the South Bronx. I moved in two years ago trucking my 1997 Honda Passport with high miles. Albertos has always been fast, responsive and very, very affordable. They get in same day when I have an emergency and always explain exactly what the problem is and what it's going to cost. I've had brakes and shocks all the way around done, replacing busted tailight, side mirror, misfiring cylinder, alternator and a few other minor problems. I can't say enough positive things about my experience here. We had to stop in unexpectedly while having trouble on the highway, without calling ahead. They immediately looked at the car and fixed what turned out to be a minor repair caused by a recent brake fix & tire rotation at a different shop in Queens a few weeks prior. Excellent repair shop! Everyone that works there is super friendly. Eric and his team successfully diagnosed my car's problem (a broken crank shaft pulley) and were able to fix it while I waited.
