I messaged through the portal, nothing. Messaged again, got told it was sent (it wasn't, it filled only after I called and sat on hold). Then a medical device the doctor ordered never shipped. When I called about that weeks later, the explanation was that a fax must not have gone through. Then I came in for a follow-up blood test the doctor himself asked for, and could not get the results out of them for almost a month. Two portal messages, no reply. When I finally reached a human she told me the results were fine and that was that. The doctor who ordered the test never called. A pharmacy refill later sat waiting on their approval until, again, I called. Every one of those calls meant 20 or so minutes on hold. At one point the front desk had a different doctor listed in my file, which maybe explains some of it. I was eventually promised a call from the doctor about the whole pattern. The call never happened. The part that actually worried me came later: I requested my complete record and found that things he had told me in person, including a test result and his recommendation for it, were nowhere in my chart. I had to file a formal amendment request to get my own medical record to say what my own doctor said. I'll be fair where it's due, the clinical judgment itself seemed reasonable, and staff were polite whenever I got through. But polite doesn't refill a prescription or return a message. If you don't mind personally tracking every order and result and calling to make sure each one happens, you might be okay here. I moved my care elsewhere.

Her office runs like a finely oiled machine. She keeps appointment times. Her office staff call you back quickly and they care as much as Dr. Adelman does. Her staff is fabulous just like Dr. Adelman! Dr. Adelman bends over backwards to ensure her patients get the best possible care and in the most timely manner. If I was old enough to see her, I would. I asked, but she only takes geriatric patients and I'm not quite old enough yet. But she helped me find a great doctor in the same network. She cares deeply and she listens. I can't say enough great things about Dr. Adelman and her entire staff. They treat you like family.

On several occasions I have had to go to the ER or urgent care simply because I could not reach my primary care doctor--who is supposed to be the first point of contact. When Dr. Emil was overseeing everything, the service was excellent; he is a great doctor. However, without proper access and communication, the quality of care is lost. I have since switched to another provider who is actually available to answer a call when needed. After I went to the hospital for stomach pain and came in to review my cat scan, they were at a loss for what could've caused the pain. There was really no follow up or treatment plan suggested. I also recently called when I was super sick and asked if I could come in and get tested for strep and mono and they said they don't do that there and to go to an urgent care. I'm very confused by a doctor's office that doesn't have the basic tests available to diagnose illnesses - It seems like this would be an integral part of the job. The last thing Is that they told me they could do an in-house breast ultra sound with their technician because I had had some irregular results in the past and didn't want to go all the way to Beverly Hills to see my regular breast doctor. But, I never received the results from this. While the bedside manner is lovely, the actual execution of effective medicine is yet to be seen.

It is impossible to talk to someone at the clinic and the call center is not equipped to be dealing with healthcare related questions. The providers are being overworked and you can see it ! Like most of his other patients, I can say without hesitation that I consider him and Peggy to be a part of my extended family. I will never forget receiving an unprompted call from Dr. H late in the evening many years ago after they learned of a sudden health crisis that my parent suffered. Thankfully, my parent's crisis eventually resolved; but that brief check-in from Dr. H touched me deeply. I knew that I was not alone and that he genuinely cared. Unheard of in modern medicine, when you call their office after-hours and connect with the emergency line, the phone rings at Dr. H's house. They trust their patients not to abuse that access; but the small number of times that my family needed it, Peggy and Dr. H were on the other end of the line, providing useful information and reassurance, even at 4AM. My experience as a patient of Dr. H's played no small role in my own journey towards becoming a physician. I often find myself trying to recall one of his totally unique and pithy one-liner jokes when I need to break the ice with a new patient. Family practices like this one are virtually impossible to find these days. The world would be a much better place if everyone had a medical team like Dr. Horowitz and Peggy.

With covid and how things are run differently now, communication is KEY! Peggy sent me all the health forms that needed to be completed in a timely manner via email. She was wonderful at responding to my emails, and she made things so easy! They went out of their way to see me in person in a really short notice as my visit required necessary clearance for my nursing program. They only have certain days for appointments but she made an exception for me as my work schedule conflicted with their in-person office visits. Peggy also sent me my labs on a Saturday as I requested if she could send it to me as soon as they receive it.. they are closed on Saturdays and she did that for me (I am so grateful!). I also want to say that I drove from Monterey Park to Dr. Horowitz's office on a Friday during the time that there is so much traffic (traffic alone in this area if you already know is hideous) but I would do it again!
