Dr. Horowitz and his wife Peggy have taken care of my family and several of my close friends for the past 20+ years. His broad scope of expertise, humanity, tact, and sense of humor have made a lasting positive impact on my life. Like most of his other patients, I can say without hesitation that I consider him and Peggy to be a part of my extended family. I will never forget receiving an unprompted call from Dr. H late in the evening many years ago after they learned of a sudden health crisis that my parent suffered. Thankfully, my parent's crisis eventually resolved; but that brief check-in from Dr. H touched me deeply. I knew that I was not alone and that he genuinely cared. Unheard of in modern medicine, when you call their office after-hours and connect with the emergency line, the phone rings at Dr. H's house. They trust their patients not to abuse that access; but the small number of times that my family needed it, Peggy and Dr. H were on the other end of the line, providing useful information and reassurance, even at 4AM. My experience as a patient of Dr. H's played no small role in my own journey towards becoming a physician. I often find myself trying to recall one of his totally unique and pithy one-liner jokes when I need to break the ice with a new patient. All I can say is WOW!! I've never had such amazing service when it comes to doctor visits. From the first moment of contacting the office, Peggy was soooo nice and sweet. With covid and how things are run differently now, communication is KEY! Peggy sent me all the health forms that needed to be completed in a timely manner via email. She was wonderful at responding to my emails, and she made things so easy! They went out of their way to see me in person in a really short notice as my visit required necessary clearance for my nursing program. They only have certain days for appointments but she made an exception for me as my work schedule conflicted with their in-person office visits. Peggy also sent me my labs on a Saturday as I requested if she could send it to me as soon as they receive it.. they are closed on Saturdays and she did that for me (I am so grateful!). I also want to say that I drove from Monterey Park to Dr. Horowitz's office on a Friday during the time that there is so much traffic (traffic alone in this area if you already know is hideous) but I would do it again! Peggy and Thomas have been such a part of my life it's like they both are family. Peggy was the manager of their practice, and she knew everything about everything - specialists, insurance, labs, therapy centers, nursing homes, hospitals - and her recommendations were gold. How long had I been seeing them? Thomas was a doctor, a family doctor in the best sense, a doctor who was open to a relationship with his patients, and he would talk and listen to you as long as it took to get a good fix on the health problem that brought you to him. He would treat you then and there if he felt able, and if he didn't, he sent you to a doctor he had confidence in from experience to treat the problem. His telehealth conferences were just fun, reassuring, and useful. Two years ago, both Peggy and Thomas had to shut down their practice due to an illness. It was a Wednesday, I believe. Been going to see Dr. Horowitz for several years now. Started going when I did not have insurance, and he had such very reasonable rates for the common man! When wife got insurance, plan was not accepted, but II still went since I could not imagine finding a better family doctor period. Now insurance changed to a plan that is accepted, and I was even happier to see the doctor for this year's check up! He is a traditional doctor, still writes notes by hand, can do minor surgeries by himself, covers all bases, pretty much a wealth of knowledge and experience. Plus his sense of humor has a way to always crack me up with the unexpected comments he makes, takes me few seconds for my mind to soak up, then realize how funny it was and makes me LOL, which in itself is therapy! His team is supported by his wife Peggy and nurse Jovita. Everyone is so helpful and so nice, it's like coming to visit family every year. If you are looking for a new doctor, go see Dr. Horowitz. You will thank all of these reviews once you go. His new office is not as convenient as the Good Samaritan location before, but that won't stop anyone who's been seeing him. And the refreshing view out the window is visual therapy, should make patients wait longer in there! I have the utmost respect for Dr. Horowitz. Sharp as a tack. Excellent medical (and other) advice. The front office runs just as competently as he does. The place is organized and spotless. Staff is very responsive to emails for appointments, Rx refills and general medical questions. I am also impressed by other providers/services they've referred me to. My previous GP retired (a bit abruptly) in 2013 and I struggled to find a new doctor I respected and liked. I have now been a patient of Dr. Horowitz for about 18 months, and through several different visits/issues. He even detected a mass in my breast that I hadn't found myself (fortunately it turned out to be ok.) Sadly, Dr. Horowitz doesn't accept my insurance, but I am willing to pay out of pocket. Prices are reasonable, in my opinion. A good GP is damn hard to find. He's moving his office in Jan 2016. Although the new location is a bit further from my home/work, I intend to follow. read more

I wouldn't ordinarily think to take the time to write a review for a doctor's office but I'm really enthralled with the level of professionalism and expertise here. I originally switched from my previous primary care physician (who I also was very pleased with) due to the location of Dr. Horowitz's office being closer to my work. Not only is this office closer but the wait time to see the doctor is among the shortest I've seen. Speaking as a constantly moving hypochondriac with a PPO, I assure you I have seen my fair share of doctors.... many of those times just to be reassured that I'm not suffering from anything life threatening... but I digress. At this office, the wait time is minutes. Dr. Horowitz is the Matlock of seemingly most, if not all physical ailments. He scopes out the clues that other doctors would miss and then prescribes a treatment or medicine that works. He also has a very witty and dry sense of humor, which supports his adherence to, at least in part, the colloquialism that "laughter is the best medicine." I've come here several times for a number of different health issues. Whether it was his prescribed treatments and medications or his one-liners such as "work is the curse of the drinking man," I couldn't say. In any case, my condition would always improve shortly thereafter. Peggy and the staff are incredibly thoughtful, considerate, and kind. They make sure your parking is validated, ask to make sure everything is ok, and take the time to carefully answer any questions you might have in detail. They provide thorough instructions regarding medication, billing information, testing, treatments, etc. They also have excellent follow up skills and are simply all around sweet, personable and likable people. Without getting into too much detail about my personal health, I am a bit of a hypochondriac, as I mentioned before. I have the classic "white coat" syndrome and get spooked every time I step into a doctor's office. It definitely alleviates my fears and calms my nerves considerably to walk into an office where I am greeted by warm, friendly, outgoing and professional people. Very happy with this doctor and staff. Highly recommended. Don't take my word for it though. The few times I've had to go to a traditional western medicine doctor, I've had very positive experiences with Dr. Horowitz and his staff. Of all the fantastic things I could be doing tonight....I find myself on Yelp with a sense of extreme gratitude and wanted to share with anyone who may be stressing about finding the right doctor. This is the place. The staff is welcoming (in other words you don't have to question if you are invisible or not....leave that to the real superheroes!) The atmosphere is that of a warm and welcoming place, and for a hypochondriac like myself, I actually was looking forward to the appointment and addressing health concerns I've been avoiding. The nightmare of the self-employed is many faceted....and medical care is one of the biggest...especially for those of us who the insurance world consider to be undesirable.... So here I sit...a big guy, myopic, high blood pressure, gay, and with a physical job that exposes me to too many people and too many funky germy environments and a knack for never getting sick with the normal stuff...just the funky and bizarre. Thank god for Dr Horowitz and his wife, partner, and muse...the wizard of connections...Miss Peggy! The minute you walk in to the offices you are warmly greeted and treated like family by Peggy and the nurses on duty. On your way to the exam room you will see the family board...a big wall dedicated to pictures of the people and their families the Horowitz's take care of. So you sit in your pleasant non-creepy sterile exam room...taking in the fun wall art of postcards and old LA Photos and other California Ephemera....and in walks the doctor. Dr. Horowitz is a L.A. Character...he is a small framed serious looking Jewish Nerd Doctor..with an ever changing selection of Bow Ties that you just know is going to start spinning at any minute! He has an extremely dry sense of humor that is seriously quirky....and will surface at the oddest moments and put you totally at ease....For example: Remember I said I never get the normal illnesses like flu? So one morning I woke up feeling way thirsty and heavy headed. I stumble in the bathroom, take my normal whizz, and go to the sink to wash up...and almost scream like a little girl! I look like Alfred Hitchcock...from the cheekbones down my face is swollen...I don't even have a neck... I run to the computer and pull up webMD and the options are horrifying...mumps, HIV, and other such lovely conditions....I call a friend and he recommends Horowitz. I call and make an appointment and go in expecting this to be my death walk. Not one word is said when I check in with Miss Peg and Im quckly shown to a room... Horowitz comes walking sits down and reviews my blood pressure in my newly formed chart then quietly says, "Been Catching many flies?" I couldn't quite laugh...but I immediately relaxed with a choked reponse....he then looked at me and said, "I bet you went online to figure out what horrible disease you have right?" I looked down sheepishly and he chuckled...then examined me and announced I had a saliva gland infecton and that all that moldable extra flesh was simply backed up spit. Gross. (told you I never got normal stuff) He gave me some hardcore antibitotics, a list of steps to hasten recovery from Frogdom, and sent me on my way. Horowitz always schedules time to talk to his clients....and he cares. They do not mark up blood work...you actually pay the real cost. My blood screens are minute in cost compared to my friends whose doctors mark up a profit. An office visit without insurance is 50 bucks after the initial visit an processing fees. Oh...and if he ever has to check your gonads...be prepared to be serenaded with "Ive got your whole world in my hands." There is a similar song for the ladies....(of course I asked). Told you he was quirky....LOL Over the years....Dr Horowitz has worked me in, come in on a off day to see me, and has maintained my health despite my best self-destructive behavior. And for the record....the Doc has served as the official City of LA Doctor, takes part in Doctors Without Borders, is a Reserve Officer of the LAPD, and has even worked with the Adult Entertainers Medical Care Program. This office is why I love Yelp. There are some real gems on here. I came here for a wellness visit based on the reviews here and I was super impressed. This guy has definitely seen Patch Adams. He spent the first 15 minutes or so of my appointment just talking to me about my job and my life. He's easily the most down-to-earth and kind physician I've ever met. It's obvious that he did this to build trust and rapport. I was massively impressed by that because I know there's no billing code for relationship-building! At no point did he ever talk down or pontificate. He did crack about one corny dad-style joke every 5 minutes but I found that endearing. He did keep the door to the exam room open but I'm fairly certain that's so he can better collaborate with his wife, Peg. She coordinates all the billing, scheduling, and referrals. The door to the waiting room was shut. It seems like an intentional setup. Peg also throws in her 2 cents on that stuff and it's clear she and Dr. Thom are a great team. No job is too small for either of them. Peg offered to fix me coffee and Dr. Horowitz administered my flu shot himself. Unheard of! One thing to be aware of is that his RN wears jeans and a t-shirt. Don't ask her if it's Casual Day. She does it because they deal with a lot of kids and charity patients who don't respond well to uniforms. I have a high deductible plan and from talking with the both of them, I really trust them to not make unnecessary, costly referrals. They seem very conscious of this, and they are generous with samples. I have no idea how they stay so fresh and progressive. I'm not being hyperbolic when I say this is the first primary care practice I've been to in 10 years that I would consider a returning to. So many other doctors are cold, profit-driven, burnt out, and pretentious. Dr. Horowitz is the opposite of those things and I couldn't be happier with my experience so far. read more

Well I went to Dr. Horowitz on the basis of the unbearably glowing reviews on yelp. I was skeptical to say the least ... but omg if he isn't the best Doctor I have ever had. The fact that it's him and his wife and a very loving devoted assistant, if that doesn't pull your heart strings , how about the fact that he is caring and practical and really listens to you? I went to him because I had a recurring infection basically ruining my life. I had a laundry list of symptoms and expected to be unheard as usual. Usually every dr shrugs and tells me "that's chronic fatigue for you" but he ordered a strategic array of tests for me that fit my budget (I am uninsured) and sure enough I had an auto-immune disease. I called my mom who also had the same symptoms and urged her to demand the same test back at home . She had been turned away for 30 years living in unbearable and ignored pain. When she insisted on the ANA the dr shrugged and tried to talk her out of it. She didn't relent . Then after two more tests and X-rays , the dr called her urgently and said he must meet with her that day. Then he sheepishly admitted to her she did indeed have an undeniable case of the same disease I had . Since then she's been diagnosed with two more auto-immune. She is managing her health and has validation for her lifelong pain. Oh and me? I no longer have those pesky infections and live a life just like someone without an auto-immune disorder thanks to a changed diet and lifestyle. All this is thanks to this wonderfully brilliant, kind, and humble man who listened to me and tried to help. In doing so he helped someone he never even met . So, for my place of employment... in order to keep your low insurance premium, you HAVE to go get a physical by your regular doc bc "regular check ups are an important routine for healthy living". So, what do I do? Get that shit done ASAP bc God knows I am not about to spend any more on my insurance than I have to. I went on yelp, found this doc in my network and was all, fine that's fine.... whatevs lets get her done. This office is so cute. Also, super nice. I'm not from LA and needed to see a doctor in a pinch. Another Canadian friend told me about Dr Horowitz, I called and they squeezed me in. The receptionists were warm and friendly, the atmosphere was inviting. I met with the doctor straight away who was a real gem. Knew his stuff, answered all my questions and was sympathetic and courteous but at the same time hilarious. A really personable doctor which I think is lacking in today's medical environment. Too many doctors treat their practice as a business and their patients as customers not as people. Not the case with Dr Horowitz. Also I don't have health insurance and that wasn't an issue for them. They charged a very fair rate. And recommended a mom and pop pharmacist to go to who would give me the best price for meds unlike the big conglomerates. I'm planning to relocate to LA soon and am thrilled to know I already have a great doctor. read more

Dr. Horowitz's office is great. I called in to get something checked out, they were worried it might be more serious and said I should go to an ER. Here's where they added some value, they suggested which ER I go to based on which they thought would be least crowded and called in ahead of time to prep the ER of everything that was wrong with me (there are many beyond what I can put in this box). They asked that I follow up with them afterwards so they were up to date on everything that happened. They just cared, which was really nice to know. read more

In a world where you feel like a peice of meat or a copay in the doctor's office....it's hard to find a family doctor who treats you with respect and dignity. Dr. Thom walks in the room in his bowtie and big black rimmed glasses looking very much the family doctor. He tells you a joke to loosen things up and then spends as much time as you need to explain your problem and answer questions. His office staff: Jovita and Peggy make you feel like one of the family and are efficent and organized. Dr. Thom is a classic family doctor who can treat anything from rashes to broken bones. He works will people who don't have insurance and has made deals with labs for better rates for the uninsured. read more

Such a warm and friendly, quirky doctor! July 6th, 2014: Update I wanted to update this now that I have been seeing Dr. Horowitz for about a year. He really is the best doctor I have ever had. He has come in to the office on saturdays when I needed him ( for an emergency of course!) has been available by phone VERY late at night ( also in an emergency, but hey.. thats when it counts the most!) and called in prescriptions fast and at weird times as well. He is also the kind of the doctor that will try his best to do everything he possibly can before sending you to a specialist. When I injured my back and needed to see a physical therapist, Dr. Horowitz basically did a physical therapy session right there in the office. Also, his wife Peggy is lovely and always remembers me by name. If you are looking for a really personal experience, this is the right Doctor for you. read more

My former Pediatrician, Dr. Paul Fleiss referred me to Dr. Horowitz. Since I trust him 100%, I decided to give him a shot, and five years later I am still a loyal patient. Dr. Horowitz is the most caring, knowledgeable, trustworthy Doctor I know! Even though I have Kaiser for insurance, I still chose to see him for more personal issues. He makes you feel so at ease from the moment he sees you. In fact, he always knows how to break the ice with one of his quirky jokes! Someone wrote a review about him not closing the door, and lack of privacy. My ENTIRE family sees him, and sometimes I stay outside as he speaks to one of my family members. Because of the lay out, you cannot hear anything that is discussed, so please don't let that deter you from seeing him. I PROMISE you that you won't find a better doctor! His staff, which is composed of Peggy and Jovita are just as wonderful! They are always laughing, and are so hospitable. I was new to Los Angeles a few years ago and looking for a great doctor. I was lucky to find him! This is the best doctor I've ever been to. The staff is amazing and Dr. Horowitz has a great sense of humor...dry and witty. Finding street parking can either be easy or hard...it just depends on the day. They also have valet parking for $6 or 7 bucks (cash only) so I would bring cash just in case. read more

If you can find a better Doctor and team in LA, use them. Chances are, you won't. These folks are so good -- decent, caring, well-connected and respected to the larger care-giving community in LA, funny when you want it, serious when you need it -- it's hard to imagine they are practicing medicine in the 21st century (where most of the rest of the care-giving community has forgotten what their priorities are). I had such a wonderful experience when I went to this office a little over a month ago (I've slacked on writing this review)! Peggy helped to make my appointment when I first called and she also greeted me when i arrived a week later. She is so warm and lovely! I fell in love with the decor from the minute I walked in (really cool vintage photos, photography books, and trinkets) which Peggy let me know are family photos and a lot of gifts from patients. When I went in for my routine check up, Dr. Horowitz was great! I didn't feel rushed throughout my visit (which was often the case at my visits at Kaiser in the past) and we actually talked for a good amount of time about various interesting topics. He's such kind person, which makes for an incredible doctor. I don't have insurance right now (in the midst of the obama care confusion), but they are super affordable considering how amazing this office is! After I left, I also received an email from Peggy to inform me on insurance information for my boyfriend and I. Even if I get insurance in the future and they aren't part of my plan, I'll be going back to their office! I would recommend everyone to do the same. read more

In my 52 years of life, I've never known someone to exercise the patience, quick-witted humor and level of knowledge that this doctor possesses.
