I paid $6.85 for a Carne Asada burrito. It was tiny, and lasted about 10 bites. Some of their other menu items are over priced also. When I pay $6.85 I expect to get something to eat. It's a pretty tiny place nestled in the corner but they're quick and good. It's my first time here and the menu is huge. I was also surprised that they have Big and Junior sized burritos. A hole-in-the-wall local place where you can find good mexican food in a hurry. I only have two complains about the restaurant. Their rice needs more flavor, and their prices are a little high. I love their red hot sauce. For those who don't like to have hot sauce, they can get a mild verde salsa which is just as good. The food is always warm, in good quality, and will fill you up. Their portions are of good size. For those looking for a place to eat very late at night, this place will be open when everywhere else is closed in the city. BEWARE ** This place takes advantage of the intoxicated customers who come from JJ's Sports Bar next door. Recently a group of friends and I visited JJ's and had a great time. Once we left JJ's we came to Alvaro's to get a bite to eat and sober up. Several of my friends who were intoxicated were charged more than triple the amount for their food. I was charged $14 for a large agua de pina. They charge you, don't give you a receipt and hope you will not realize it. When we called the next day they knew exactly who we were and refunded my girlfriend as she threatened to make a big deal about it. I'm sure this is not the first time this has happened. They change $.75 to use a debit or cc. The burrito was average. The fries were frozen fries cooked in old oil. I love fries. Theses rate a 4 on a 1-10 scale. The hot sausage was as hot as ketchup. My family has lived here since 1995. I'm sure this restaurant has changed hands several times. We have patronized this place throughout the years. Monday 1/16/23 I had my son pick me up an order of Taquitos. I noticed the Guacamole was more sauce than actual avocado. Then when I taste one, it was too spicy for my palate. I was not wasting my money on this dish. I drove to the restaurant to talk to them, with the receipt. I'm assuming the gray haired man I attempted to discuss this with. He wouldn't say a word. I explained how we get food here frequently, and I've never had a problem with the Taquitos. He looked at the dish, he verified my receipt. He then opens the register. He pulls out $7 in bills. I then said "No sir, it's ok if you just give me a credit for next time." He just puts the money on the counter, as he continues, he gives me the balance of $10 in DIMES! I then said sir, how much is this? He tells me "You count it!" I just shook my head and said, "we've come here for years, but we will never come back!" My point is, he never said I'm sorry! He could have said they changed the recipe , or have a new cook, anything! I just would have steered clear of their Guacamole, as I cannot handle spicy foods. Staff is nice and friendly. Very clean. Close to where I live. I was really hoping for an authentic Mexican food place but was disappointed. First of all, I ordered the taquitos plate with rice and beans. By the way, I paid by debit so I was charged a 75 cent fee, which I wouldn't have minded if the food was good. It wasn't. The taquitos were cold with little flavor. The guacamole was not fresh and it was tasteless. The refried beans tasted like they came from a can and the rice was okay but it had carrots in it and I'm not a fan of cooked carrots. The portions were generous so I wasn't able to finish and took the remainder home. Unfortunately when I got home I had a stomach ache and within a few hours I threw up. Needless to say my leftovers are being trashed and I won't be going back. read more

I used to frequent Albaros all the time. I lived around the neighborhood. Now that I am no longer living there, I thought I would write up a review for them. Their food was always fresh and freshly made, and all the greasy goodness. I know fresh and greasy sounds weird but trust me it works here.The service was very friendly and nice. Like Wayne said the food isn't always spectacular,but you always walk out feeling like you spent your money well. If you frequent them enough they will do little extras for you. My main staples here were the chicken enchiladas, and the carne asada burritos. My brother swears by their carne asada fries. My family and I just went to lunch at this restaurant. This was our second attempt and it wasn't very good. The food is bland and lacks any flavor whatsoever. I ordered the 4 taco special and was told after I ordered that the meat choices were limited to chicken or cabeza. I chose the chicken which tasted absolutely processed and no seasoning at all. My son had a bean and cheese burrito. He was satisfied with it, but its kind of hard to mess up a b&c burrito. My husband got a carne asada torta. It was also very bland and lacking flavor. The hot sauce is just heat and no taste. Also be prepared to be nickeled and dimed for everything there. Needless to say, we will not be going back. Absolutely pass on this....burritos are overpriced and horribly made. I purchased a chicken burrito and upon taking my second bite the bottom fell apart and the entire contents were on my lap. What came out was not chicken. It was the consistency of left over bits of chicken parts the size of peat gravel. I purchased a junior burrito (3.00) for my wife and it was small enough to feed a child...it was probably the same size as a Del Taco bean burrito. She pulled something orange out of her burrito.
