The best way to travel from Anchorage to Denali…read more Check-in and boarding is pretty straight forward and efficient. We were there off-season, so we got to exclusively enjoy the dining car ... Which, in my opinion, has better views than the observation car. They had a bar with decent options, and the prices were reasonable. Overall, it was a good time, and I highly recommend taking the train if you're going to Denali or Fairbanks.

Review #10 for 2026…read more We did this train ride from Anchorage to Seward while in Alaska to get to our cruise. This train ride was a fantastic scenic way to get from point A to point B. My baby boy loves trains and he had a great time on the train too. For this trip, we did splurge and did the GoldStar service. If you are doing it only once, I would say splurge on it!! However, I do not have any experience with the regular adventure class seating, but we felt it was totally worth it for us. It is DOUBLE the cost at $240 though, so keep that in mind as far as budgeting goes. I did just check the website and right now as of Jan 2026, the price increased to $277 for GoldStar seating and $133 for regular seating. Kids 2-11 cost significantly less. Under 2 is free if they sit on your lap. Everyone gets a special Goldstar pin! Our particular train was sold out as it was the first day and everyone was there trying to catch their cruise in Seward also, so to have the assigned seating and all was great for us. Checking in was quick. They are very efficient and fast!! When you bring your luggage, they will ask you if you want it to go to the cruise or train station. Those going to the cruise, tell you cruise!! You do not want to lug your luggage around town. Let them do the work for you!! So there is a weight limit for the suitcases. 2 can be checked in at 50lbs each. We spent ALL night moving stuff around and trying to make the weights work out and to get there and they just grabbed everything and asked you where you wanted it to go! It took like 10 seconds! They were not weighing any one suitcases or checking all that stuff... so I do not know if they actually check it or because our train was sold out they just wanted to load everyone on as fast as possible. Also, online it says you can only carry on a small backpack, but there were tons of people with large backpacks and even some with small suitcases. Like I said, I do not know how strict they are exactly or if because we were the first train of the season and sold out that they just wanted to get people on as fast as possible... With Goldstar, you get an open window train, meaning you can see 360 around you as opposed to regular seating where it is just a window, but the window is pretty big. I forgot to walk around the other trains just to see how different it was. With GoldStar you also get 2 free alcoholic drinks, there is no limit on non-alcoholic drinks and a full breakfast included. For breakfast you go downstairs and are in a seated table with table service. The breakfast was delicious! I got reindeer sausage with eggs and potatoes. You can also order multiple drinks. I got orange juice with coffee. Breakfast goes by pretty quick as they get people down in groups and send you back up so they can go on to the next group. If you have a sleeping toddler like we did, we were able to get his breakfast to-go and he had food when he woke up and he LOVED the breakfast as well. He devoured most of his meal! On the train, you were free to roam around. We went out back to the open air several times. It was a good way to get fresh air and stretch your legs. The air in Alaska is just so clean and fresh! The views were amazing from everywhere!! The Goldstar seats were comfy and big. Would I come back? YES!! I have been wanting to come back since we left Alaska! I want to do the aurora train during the winter that goes to Fairbanks. I heard its possible to see the northern lights. I want to experience the other train rides! Unfortunately, the only route that offers the Goldstar service is the Coastal Classic which goes from Anchorage to Seward and vice versa.

I have just been through the Alaska Airlines holiday gladiator gamut. I was scheduled to fly from…read moreTampa to Anchorage on the 29th, through Seattle. Here are some numbers of what actually happened: 7: number of flights that were cancelled 4: number of flights it took to get back to Anchorage 4th: date I actually got home 2: number of nights I stayed in Juneau 2: number of nights I was without my luggage, once I finally got back into town I got the bags back last night. Alaska Airlines is using BAC to deliver them. (no idea if this is typical, I've never had this done before) All I've really known of BAC before this is that they are slickly dressed in black, and hold signs for people they are waiting for at the airport. I have most commonly seen them unloading luggage out of vans at the more expensive hotels in Anchorage. Your initial question might be: "Andrew, why didn't you just go to the airport and pickup your bags?". Good question, a couple reasons: 1) The airport is an absolutely war-torn jungle right now. The last thing I want to do is go wait in another 45 minute line...or more...and then have to pay for airport parking because Alaska misplaced my bags. 2) After 50 hrs of travel in 4 cities, I had a splitting headache...similar to the one I had when I got my vaccine booster. So I was not going to unnecessarily expose anyone while waiting for results. (Andrew from the future here, it was negative, whew!) Alaska told me my bags would be delivered on the 5th...and they weren't. I called again on the 6th...and they said they were there with a note saying I was going to pick them up? They re-asked for my info, like they did on the 5th, and said they would be delivered at 4pm. 4pm came and went, no bags. At 6:30pm, I got my COVID results back, negative! I went to go get Pho to celebrate. Still no bags. I thought I was probably going to have to nag Alaska Airlines again. (this time I would just go get them myself) As I was leaving the Pho place (Phonatik, my favorite), I saw 3 missed calls. (my phone is on silent when I'm dining with my partner, I'm not an animal!) 2 from BAC, and 1 from my neighbor. No text messages from BAC, but there was one from my neighbor. They were going to leave my bags in the snow in front of my house because they didn't want to go up the stairs. So my neighbor offered to take the bags in for them. *deep breath* Few things about this: 1) Why could a professional company like BAC, that slings bags for retirees all summer long at The Captain Cook not go up the same stairs I, FedEx, UPS, USPS, and Door Dash drivers go up daily/weekly? No idea. (Why this matters: the bags are out of view from the street when they are up the stairs in front of my door, they are VERY VISIBLE from the street where they planned to leave them) 2) They didn't know I have an amazing relationship with my neighbor...but they just dropped them off with him anyway? Not impressed BAC. Learn how to walk up some stairs. It's the least you can do when you are 3 hours (or 2 days) late for a delivery. Also, try texting as well as calling.

While planning our bucket list trip to Alaska for our 38th wedding anniversary, we wanted it to…read moreinclude a week on land and a week at sea. We had already decided on the cruise we wanted to take, and we had booked it separately. We started to put together what we wanted to do on the land tour, and doing the planning on our own quickly became overwhelming. We looked at several websites that offered travel arrangements and we decided on Alaska Tour & Travel. Mostly because the Best of Denali & Kenai Fjords Tour 120 offered a variety of activities and things we wanted to do. It was an even bigger bonus to find out that we could make alterations to further enhance our tour. Even with those alterations, they were able to put the journey together in a seamless manner, leaving us to just enjoy Alaska without the worry of how we were going to get from one destination or excursion to the next. From start to end, Alaska Tour & Travel was there to assist us and keep us informed as the trip progressed. This was so comforting and made our trip very enjoyable. With the planning services we received, we can't say enough good things about Alaska Tour & Travel. We both highly recommend Alaska Tour and Travel and will use them when we plan our next trip to Alaska. We would also like to give a shout out to Kala Jenkins and Skye Smith for all the work they did for us. Thanks for a great Anniversary!

From the first phone call to actually booking the train ride to Seward and booking our hotel through them, it was a very seamless transaction. The train ride was absolutely beautiful and fun! The whole family enjoyed it tremendously! It is so worth paying the little extra for the Gold Dome ride as it is all inclusive with drinks and meals. We went round trip which included breakfast, dinner and 2 free alcohol drinks going and coming back, plus all the non-alcohol drinks you want. We of course had Bloody Mary's in the morning which were the best! All of the train personnel were courteous and most professional. We highly recommend Alaska Tour & Travel to anyone wanting a splendid vacation experience! Thank you Alaska Tour & Travel for everything!!
