Please see my previous review as everything I mentioned below still stands absolutely true. One comment I would make is that I am impressed how responsive People Mover has been to the public comments, complaints and suggestions. Recently they did a HUGE and very impressive and thorough public survey to gather information about changes they are considering. They put a realistic cap on it based on budgetary limits which helped the public understand you can't have it all. I was glad to see that all communities were represented. Rude drivers , never ontime, will splash you with water when walking down the street, and when you buy a 30 day pass it doesn't say 30 days unless there is a holiday. read more

Took the #25 Line back and forth to downtown. On the way to downtown, the driver ignores my Stop Requested... luckily the next stop was the transit center. On the way back home, a 25 stopped at the transit center, the driver waited till I activated my single ride transit pass than he said he was going out of service...he should have told me when I stepped on board. Luckily the pass was good for 15 minutes or so... the next 25 came 7 minutes later. read more

I used to ride the bus a lot because it was convenient and cheap. Unfortunately people move ruined that by altering their routes to increase the number of transfers. My route from home to downtown now takes a transfer and twice as long to get there. The quality of drivers took a noticable hit when they scrapped the big buses for those little things. I don't think the new drivers are near as qualified as the big bus drivers. Oh well, I just drive five times as much; it isn't my kids that are going to have to deal with the trashed environment anyway. read more

Alaska needs to have a mode of public transportation and the City of Anchorage is consistently modifying routes, trying to keep things cost effective, and as modern as possible so that riders have options from all socioeconomic paths. I started riding the bus when I lived in Eagle River into Anchorage and used the monthly pass. Then, I used my wolf card at UAA to ride the bus free. The People Mover also has other programs available for half price for kids, senior citizens, and those that fall under ADA. There is an easy to use People Mover app to keep tickets on, see maps, bus times, routes, and all information you need. Bus drivers are friendly and helpful with the bike rack. Buses are on time. The ADA application process is sloppy on the People Mover side and really unorganized. It's hard to communicate and know where applications are in process, and if there are deficiencies in the application no one will contact the applicant to give more information on how to make adjustments. This is extremely disappointing since this is literally a program subsidized by the federal government, and there is no reason to make it cumbersome on the applicant, who I'm sure in many ways already has difficult navigating the process. This would be my only complaint. Despite this, the People Mover is a great way to get around. The maps on Apple are good to tell you when bus routes are coming and going and use the app for digital tickets. Yes, it's public transportation, you will see everybody on the bus!! It costs only $2 to ride. It's a pretty cheap way to get from the airport to Downtown Anchorage via route 7 where the route stops at the Downtown Transit Center. That ride will take roughly 30 minutes. There are signs in the airport that will direct you to the bus stop. Just follow the signs for the city bus. I rode the bus on an early Saturday morning, so it was a pretty quiet ride. I'm sure the experience would be a bit different during the weekday. read more

Your website is exceedingly difficult to navigate. Since the site is impenetrable, one would think a call to the help desk would clarify things. Well . . . good luck with the multi-layered menu! And, if you need to reload your People Mover card, plan on a trip to their downtown office. One would think that to renew the balance on the card would require simply going to the website to use a credit card, or even, wait for it, an auto-reload function. Truly, the web site and the help line both need re-thinking. If we want more ridership, then we have to make it convenient, not an obstacle course! Once on the bus, my experience has been good. This is the good news. The mid-town route is a few minutes from my home and office and the buses run frequently along my route (10). read more

I am writing this review from a winter tourist perspective. I spent two weeks in Anchorage starting in late February. I used the 7/7A, 15, 36 and 60 when I wanted to go somewhere that was not located downtown. I think People Mover covers the area pretty well. I used the 7/7A to visit the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum and to get to the Millennium to work my Iditirod volunteer shifts, 15 to visit Russian Jack Springs Park, the 36 to get back from the Millenium when I missed the 7 and the 60 to do some shopping. The adult fare is $1.75 one-way or $4.00 for a day pass. I probably took about twenty one-way trips. With the exception of two bus drivers, the drivers were all very friendly. The other two were simply polite. If I wasn't sure were top get off, the drivers were always very helpful. They let me off at the correct stop and told me where to walk to get to my destination. The downtown transit center is at 6th and H. The building opens at 5:30 and is heated. This was very nice when I was waiting for a bus that left at 6:15 am. The station also contains a small market and a few fast food restaurants. read more

Moving here from across the world without a car has been quite an experience. An experience that has been softened primarily by the mobility of the People Mover. The buses are on time as long as there is no snow. So, if you are a summer tourist, you are A ok! I do tell you this, during inclement weather allow plenty of extra time. The drivers are SUPER friendly and knowledgeable of the city and surrounding cities. They are also quite cautious of road conditions. The buses are extra clean and kept warm. I should mention that the Transit Center is quite squalid, and one should wear an oxygen tank while walking thru it, as it is piled by drunks and pot users. But this review is not for the transit center, rather for the people mover!!! Therefore A++ read more

Needs to improve communication the bus drivers don't wait for for you when you are running to catch the bus but they will sit there and wait at some bus stops when there is nobody there to me all that is poor srmervice I will say tho they are some nice drivers but most of them are just rude read more

I can't imagine that the People Mover is good for locals or working folks. Each time I rode the People Mover-- and I rode it at various times of the day on various routes-- the bus was about 10 minutes late. Heaven forbid that you have to transfer to another bus, because most of the buses only come about once an hour (occasionally more frequently during rush periods, every 30 minutes). Most of the customers on People Mover did not seem to be the working sort, anyway, so perhaps People Mover knows its target customer. Most of the buses smelled of malt liquor as soon as about 11am, on weekdays. Prepare to wait for the People Mover. They're only moving people about once an hour. read more

Always... late, almost everytime, some of the driver are cool, but so many of them are so late. Sometimes I've had it to where they never show up, I've waited for like 45 minutes before and it just never came. Buses weren't closed down either cause I ended up taking bus 10 way later and being late to work. They've made me late to work a few times. read more

Most of the drivers are wonderful people, but the few bad eggs really put a stink on the whole operation. Drivers operate with no identification, and, if they abuse the trust the public has placed in them, the only recourse of which I know is to file a paper form, with no way of calling out any driver but one you have come to know personally. Once again, drivers operate with essentially zero accountability, and if you want to ride People Mover, realize that the drivers are a superior life form than yourself, which will superior life form notify the authorities if you dare criticize them, and exaggerate any criticism you make of them in order to put the finger on you rather than themselves. I had a driver breeze past me this morning and managed to catch another bus that looped around and got me back on the bus that had driven right past me, and when I called the first driver on her scumbag ways, she excused herself by saying that usually the people at that stop at that time are waiting for another bus. UPDATE: I called in and got patched through to the supervisor, the name of whom is Will (343-4536) and he was very attentive to my input, and I have upgraded my rating in appreciation both for his consideration and for the majority of drivers being good eggs. Also, after having written my review above I chanced upon one of the other drivers out walking, and he said the bad egg bus driver lady had blamed *him* for her passing me up that morning as he was in a bus right behind hers but a bit off schedule! And she still scowls at me when I get on one of her buses, oh bother... read more

I'm giving this three stars because the bus system has been punctual so far, and thus reliable. I am a 24 yr old college grad doing a short internship at APU and have no car. I'm from New Mexico and have never been to Anchorage and have to rely on the buses. I have to use it every day to go to work, and to sight-see, and also to get groceries. The drivers are quite nice. Expect them to be more business than actual friendly. One bus driver appeared harried, but he, like the rest of the drivers, was very helpful. All of them seem to be in a big hurry. Maybe they were just stressed. I don't think I would have been able to ask them where to walk to get to my destination because of their haste. The day passes are now $5.00 (to update the 2009 reviewer's post) and the one-way fare is $1.75. I wish the bus had more frequent stops. I had to wait 30 minutes, and yes, you do have to keep looking at your watch because if you miss a ride or make a mistake, you'll be waiting another 30 minutes. Bring something to entertain you. Yes, prepare to wait... Transfers take a long time! I transferred once and had to wait thirty minutes. WOMEN: Careful. There are a bunch of drunk Native people and homeless people everywhere, especially in the downtown area, around the transit center, both men and women alike. I saw drunk women and men at two different bus stops on two different sides of town yelling at each other and it was a bit disconcerting. (Yes, I'm Native too, but I don't have alcohol problems.) Just be careful. I'm a 5'3" tall woman. I got lots of unwanted attention even with wearing a plain gray sweater with a college logo with long jeans and beat-up black chucks. Anchorage is for people who drive. Everything seems to be far apart, and some buildings are an inconvenience to walk to because of how some roads are set up. I don't think the People mover is for the working sort either, in agreement with reviewer "T.G." A lot of the customers so far seemed to be bums, special needs people, drunks, and 18-24 year old college students and other random young people... They caused me to question the meaning of "normal." read more
