I can't say much about their work quality. I didnt get anything done. I went in to get some plexi glass cut, and they said they could do the work, but also said he would rather send me to somebody else that specializes in plastics because the quality would be much better. A friend and I were doing some searching for a piece of glass to replace a window in her house and after making countless phone calls Alamo Glass had the best deal by far. We were able to find a large single pane of custom cut window glass for around $20 while the next best deal we could find was over twice the same cost. They cut it while we waited and presented it neatly wrapped. The show floor was a bit grungy and smelled of cigarette smoke, but they displayed a nice selection of mirrors and glass. The workers were a bit curt but still helpful. My favorite part was outside in the parking area/driveway. Instead of gravel they have broken glass scattered all over the ground. We were a bit nervous about driving on it but the lady at the front desk assured us it was perfectly safe. My friend thought it might be fun to use in her own driveway and we were told that if we wanted some we could just show up with a bucket and load up. So if you ever want buckets of broken glass, this is the place for you. read more

this place is pretty horrible. I had a 20 ft glass counter top to be installed today and they apparently had a situation where they could not deliver. It took me to call and find an ETA. At which time they told me they would not deliver today. and the next avail day was wednesday. ....I run a business and there was no sense of urgency and really no apology. when I ask to speak to someone above him he said he made the decisions. well as far as customer service goes....not very good. Customer service is a dying art and this company does not own up to that. I understand that customers are not always right but I do understand that when you have a scheduled appointment and they dont deliver goods and reschedule for DAYS later....totally unacceptable. I scheduled my day around these guys and it was horrible. I told them to forget it and they said ok like it was no big deal. I will call another glass company. I was looking online for some custom cut glass shelves for a new counter display for my office and looked around Austin for a service company. Found Alamo and wrote to them telling them what I wanted. Received reply promptly with prices and suggestions from Cindi that I could save costs by going to a thinner glass. Might I add that they were also much more affordable than the other places I asked? We'll I confirmed the order and measurements and was told that they will be ready in 3 hrs. I was dumbfounded! I asked if I needed to come by and prepay and she said there was no need. Picked the items up 3 hours later and paid for them. They were loaded in my truck by their staff and were neatly wrapped in paper. Excellent service and will do business with them again. At first you think - is that driveway really glass? It is. Recycled materials rule. The showroom is dark and dreary. Dirty. Smells of smoke - probably because the employees walk around with cigarettes hanging from their lips. The counter help isn't really helpful - I think they thought I looked like a glass expert like they are supposed to be. I asked questions, got no real help which means I asked more questions and after 10 minutes of this I had my glass picked. No price was given, so I asked. Pretty decent - $34 / door for frosted, $11 for clear. Two days to complete. When I went back to pick up my doors everything appeared to be great. But after driving 4 blocks to get home, I noticed the glass had come out of two of the doors. I called and got some story about "bad caulk" so I returned the doors. One day later we're set. I arrive at 8am, get a dismal greeting from teh counter help but enjoy friendly quips with the young guy working in back. He was nice. I wouldn't recommend this place. Mostly because of service, but partially because of knowledge. The doors should have been right the first time through. Good luck! read more

I've used these guys three times to cut 1/4 acrylic shelves for me. They're quick, friendly, and the one time my order wasn't ready, they gave me some extra. The only drawback is their hours. You have to get cracking right after work or take off early. Of course, if you're a hopeless project starter like me, you'll find all kinds of keen new ideas spring into your head that start "Hey, if I get a 3" x 4' slat of plastic from Alamo Glass and my drill, I could..." One of my sons broke a downstairs window on a Wednesday afternoon and I was taking the family out of town on Saturday. I needed the window fixed promptly so my house would be secure, and Alamo came through. Both people I spoke with on the phone were friendly and said they'd work me in to their schedule given my situation. (Unlike the big company, Binswanger, who told me it would be 10 days before they could come out.) I called Thursday morning and by Friday late morning two workers came to my house and fixed the window in under an hour. Alamo also came recommended by a neighbor and a window restoration company I spoke with. read more

This store has been around every since I can remember. It is not a fancy showroom, but it gets the job done. I ordered a piece of glass for an outside table. They recommended getting tempered glass. The order process was easy. For a 24"x42"x1/4" piece, it cost ~$80. Not sure if that is cheap or expensive, but it is conveniently located. Please note that if your glass breaks on the way home, there is no refund, because they don't know the circumstances. They will replace it for you. They do not wrap any of the smaller glass pieces of this size. So when it does break, it is a precarious situation. For safety, I would recommend this be the one thing to improve on as part of their customer service and safety for their consumers. read more

I used them for service September 13 and they did phenomenal short notice work. Fast forward to 10/20 and I got a charge for over $470. I called spoke to Dallas and he looked at it, noticed that was weird, gave me the customers name that this charge was for and then said he would figure it out and email me a refund receipt. After a few hours I called back and spoke to Kristen F. (She is the manager) and she said that she took the card from that customer and said she entered it in manually. So they could not process a refund. I told her my conversation with Dallas and she said I understand but the only option is calling the bank. I did indeed call my bank. There will be a resolution. However, DO NOT TRUST them with your payment information. They do type it in manually, mine was over the phone in September due to it being same day, but obviously your information as a customer is not at all held private. After requesting to speak to the owner Kristen simply said "I don't know when he will be able to, he is retired". That is the service level to expect if a company fraudulently charges your account. Buyer beware and keep your account safe. read more

I had found this really neat old trunk and all I needed was a glass top for it so I could make a coffee table. I called up Alamo glass, which happened to be right down the road from me. I told them what I was working on, they asked a few questions, and in about a day was told my glass would be ready. When I picked it up they offered to take it to my car for me and even gave me rubber bumpers free of charge, and thanked me for my business. Simple, easy transaction! Not sure if I will need more glass in the future, but I will be recommending them. They're crushed tempered glass parking lot was pretty cool too! read more

I used Alamo glass before and they did a good job so I decided to use them again when our window in the front door shattered. Twice they came out and both times the glass was cut incorrectly. Twice We had to wait. It took almost a month and a half when they came out for the second time only to find out that the second glass was also cut incorrectly. The two technicians that came the second time left the existing glass barely attached to the door frame and took off. I called and complained about the poor job they did in securing the existing glass and they sent two other technicians to fix their mess. I called the office to complain and spoke to Cindy who acted like I was bothering her. I would not recommend them. They did refund my down payment and I do commend them for that. They kept their word and made things right on their end. read more

I will never use Alamo for personal use or for business use. I have waited over a month for a quote from them and after a little back and forth I have gotten no response. I tried to email with a follow up and was getting my emails sent back to me even though it is the same email that was used to communicate with the man giving me a quote. I then call to see if I can get some sort of answers and I am greeted with a rude women who was not willing to help me at all, she did not even take the time to listen to me fully or apologize for the time taken to get the quote, she then ended the conversation with "Hope you enjoyed venting" and then hung up on me. If this is how this company is going to try and get my business I certainly do not want to deal with this during an construction job. read more

If somebody breaks into your home and you need a new window, don't call these guys. If you value your time, don't call these guys. If you expect to be treated politely by service professionals, don't call these guys. Somebody tried to break into my house, and I didn't know who to call to repair the window. Alamo glass said they could come out and repair my window sooner than any other company I spoke with. They were set to come out the next day around 1, so I was going to be home from work around noon. So at 11 o'clock when they called me to let me know they were at my home, I wasn't there yet and the unfriendly guy on the phone said he could measure the window without me there. I called back after a while to ask about the cost and when I could expect the window and again the guy was unpleasant when he told me that he just measured the window and couldn't give me a quote. I called the office and eventually, the office called me back and gave me a quote and got my credit card number. They called me back a few days later to get my number again, but still couldn't schedule for my window to be replaced, I told them I was out of town and to let me know when they could install it and I would have somebody there. They never called to schedule the installation. I called two weeks later to see when they were going to install and they told me they would call me back. They never did, so I called them back (more than 24 hours later), when they told me they had me scheduled for Friday. (Thanks for the options) I had to work but I rearranged my schedule and made it work, and took Friday off of work. Friday arrived and they were supposed to be there around 3:30-4:30 and at 4:25 I received a phone call asking if the installation guys had shown up yet, because apparently they had gone missing. Then I was informed that they would have to cancel my appointment and reschedule, but I understand things happen so I was patient. So the next Monday I called in to see if they had scheduled me and (again) not told me, and they hadn't scheduled me yet. So we scheduled for Friday (today). So now, four weeks after they initially came out and measured for a window, I finally have a window. Overall, I'm disappointed. My home was violated and these people didn't show me any respect, took my money, and treated me like shit. read more

I'm surprised by the good reviews on here, although my crappy customer service experience seems to be the norm. That cranky old woman at the front desk needs to be replaced. My story: One of the conditions to the sale of a home I recently purchased was that four windows had to be repaired for fogging. The previous owners hired these clowns to do the repair. Firstly, the windows they repaired all had excess silicon seeping out of the window frames; alot of it (in some cases, as much as 2 tablespoons). They also left writing on one window, which I'll have to climb on the roof of the porch to clean off. And we also found that they repaired the wrong window. There were two windows, side by side. The broken one clearly had moisture on the inside, and was marked with a post it note, as were the other fogged windows. But they fixed a perfectly good window instead. The previous owners didn't notice as they were moving out a few days later. When I called to complain, the woman who answered the phone (easily a three pack / day smoker) was rude and unfriendly. She accused us of lying and said that we waited too long to call. It was 7 weeks from the date on the receipt. We closed a week after the repair, it took us a month to move in, and several weeks to obtain a copy of the receipt. When I told her that this wasn't a good customer experience, she told me (and I quote): "My ultimate goal is to protect the company." When I responded that her goal should be customer satisfaction, she told me "We've been in business 50 years, and no-one's had a problem before." I responded that I would surely write a review online about my experience so people would know that at least one person had a problem. and her response: "You young people go running online only when you have a problem. " Then she hung up on me half way through my next sentence. Great customer service, lady. You should be a model for all things that shouldn't be done on a customer service call. read more

She reluctantly gave me the price per pane, & I asked if a volume discount would be possible. She rudely said "no, we are the cheapest in town." Hmm. I got home & called Binswanger. This was a really disappointing experience and want to warn others. We just paid $1,200 to get our shower door built. Two guys came in, were nice and put the door in. The door ended up leaking so we called back and the owner and one of his employees came by. They tried fixing one of the two issues partially and had to come back inside to fix that part. The second issue, we had a disagreement on, but I believe they just didn't want to admit being wrong. Aside from all that, I couldn't believe the way I was treated. When my sweetheart was on the phone with the landlord, the owner told me to "tell him to make up his damn mind!" They then completely took out my shower door, so we have nothing now--including our money. Aside from being ignorant and unprofessional, the owner is incredibly rude, demanding and doesn't deserve your money. Heads up. We have also found a more affordable option. read more

I think it is helpful to remember that this place deals mostly with contractors/builders who also do not possess the best social skills on the planet. I too got the same dry and emotionless feedback from the front lady that are described in the other reviews. So I tried to be a little extra nice to compensate, and low and behold she perked up! She's probably just used to years of people not giving her the time of day. Turns out, she was extremely helpful, got me exactly what I needed while I waited for almost no time at all, and the price was very good. Despite numerous follow-up calls to schedule the delivery so we could coordinate the installation --- they called today on the promised delivery date and said sorry --- orders are backed up and so will be a week from now. We have 120 guests coming for an evening soiree tonight --- and looking out from a boarded up window. How can an established company not be on top of their production and delivery? Unacceptable. Called Alamo Glass about having custom glass cut to cover my furniture tops, so as to protect from scratches or water marks on my dresser and 2 night stands! They were awesome! I was in no rush and with their professionalism they stated I could go with either tempered or annealed glass, for my application! Offered both prices and stated that annealed glass would work for the application I had in mind and be less expensive then the tempered glass. The tempered glass would be slightly stronger and safer if it happens to break! I still opted for the tempered, even though it would be more expensive and take a little longer, because of the tempering process! They called me later the next afternoon and all was ready. I couldn't believe it. I went in the following day to pick it up and the edges weren't done properly, but they were exceptionally quick to resolve! They knocked it out in 15 minute and was out the door! I am super happy with the completed work and they look awesome on our dresser and night stands. The office is a little grimy, and the staff can be a little gruff, but Alamo Glass gives a decent price for your custom glass needs. I've ordered several custom mirrors from them of various sizes and edge styles, and I've always been pleased with the result. I think it's true that they aren't primarily focused on the DIY customer, so if you have questions about options or prices, don't be shy about asking. They'll warm up to you eventually. When it comes to glass in Austin Alamo is all you need. Strange because I don't think the Alamo had any glass windows.. But I'm not a history expert. I called around and they gave me the cheapest price for a new window pane I accidentally broke. They even packed it up and brought it to my car which was parked down the street, which was awful nice of them since it was a pretty large piece of glass. I replaced this window about a year ago and it's still in there, stronger than all my others in fact. If I break any other windows or need any glass in the future I'd go to Alamo Glass for an inexpensive and reliable product. read more
