The bit car they gave to me
    Andre F.

Hello, hope my review can alert you as a Tourist or someone that just want to rent a car at this shady place. Did reserved online a car, didn't paid because I wasn't sure what to expect from this place, ok, car wasn't there, they gave me a completely different car. You might read this and said, why he rented anyway? Well, my flight got delayed and I have my whole family with me, plus I still need to drive an hour in have to get into my final destiny in MX. I did tried and my wife talk with manager and she didn't care at all, they did tried to sell everything at counter, I mean all of the coverages that they possibly can even after you tell them that you credit card does offer the type of insurance. That's ok, they are doing their job. While I was there waiting for the guy spent our time inside the office looking to find some other car for us, I saw and spoke with a woman that paid online for a specific vehicle and they gave her something else completely different, wow. I also saw a couple that did that paid o line and they gave them a different car, they complained but they get it, that's how this people do their business, they trick you and when you get there, they give you a shady car. One more thing, even if the manual of the bit up car that they gave to you says regular, they enforced you to PUT a PREMIUM Gas, that's really surprised us, this is the first time I've been a rental car place and they required that, they don't put that info online, you are only find out when you get there. Yes, I learned my lesson and never seen myself rent a vehicle at this place. I also don't know how they have those reviews, probably fake. Definitely not recommended and be careful. Ps: Bellow is a picture of the bit up Versa Car they gave to me. Horrible

Trickster at Alamo, Cancun Airport: Yair
    Matthias H.

To Whom It May Concern Sorry for my bad English, my origin is German. I had booked via Orbitz a rental car in Cancun for 10 days with Alamo from 01.19.2020 to 29.01.2020. Orbitz asked me to prepay around 80% of the rental and insurance fee. On my arrival at 21.00, I was told by Alamo employee Yair that I have to pay a second/extra insurance for 55 USD per day. With me protesting he lowered this insurance fee first to 45 USD and then to 35 USD per day. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN 550/450/350 USD EXTRA for a ¨useless¨ insurance, or better called SCAM, because I already had FULL cover from Orbitz. If there is an extra Mex. Insurance needed for around 15 USD per day, they still need to change their public treatment, and at least let people know in advance. But I still call this FRAUD - paying 2 insurances does not make any sense at all for a customer, am I wrong? Furthermore, my Mexican Debit-Card was not accepted, which in the US or Mexico-City never has been a problem at all. Ok, I could have used my US Credit-Card, but not for such a scam. I was not the only client who got scammed in that Alamo office in that moment, by the way. After 5 minutes of unfriendly treatment from Yair I left this Alamo office, and got a ride from an unhappy employee (!!!) for free to a local Rental Car company, within 1 km of distance: Keddy Rental Cars. There I got without any problems a 5 Door & brand new rental car for a very LOW AND FAIR PRICE incl. Insurance and PERFECT SERVICE. And nobody asked me for a second & strange extra fee/insurance !!!! This Keddy was amazingly friendly, helpful, professional & cheap. Return of the car was same perfect and they did NOT try to trick me at all. Perfect example of customer care - THANK YOU KEDDY !!!! As you can imagine, this will mean that I never ever will again rent a car with Alamo, nor give my clients the suggestion to rent a car with them. We frequently do have international clients taking rental cars at Airport Mexico-City for up to 8 days to visit our vintage car restoration facility in San Miguel de Allende, what do you think will I suggest to them? My Family are frequent travelers, what do you think I will suggest to them ? Do you even think I will recommend people to spend their holidays in Cancun in the future ? Why are people killing their own business slowly but steady with this kind of customer treatment and frauds ??? Just have a look at the reviews in Cancun - how irresponsible can anybody be to act like this ? YOU ARE KILLING OUR BEAUTIFUL MEXICO, EVERY TOURIST WILL THINK THAT ALL MEXICANS ARE DEFRAUDERS, WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE !!!!!!! I am so angry, that I will post this review on every available platform like Orbitz, Yelp, Tripadvisor, Booking, Trustpilot, Bazaarvoice, Trustspot, Google & Gmaps etc. Yotpo, G2Crowd, consumer affairs etc. Worst critic you might ever get. Please be advised, that we are a hard working company with around 65 hours of weekly work, but with this kind of fraud I am now very very happy to invest some of my rare spare time for doing my part against this kind of fraud. I never have done something like this before, but I am so angry still, and have learned from this lesson, to pay you back as good as possible. By the way, as you can see from the dates, I even let go around 3 weeks since this incident to be objective with my acting. And finally, I am very curious, If I ever will even receive an answer from Alamo at all, and if so, if their answer will be just a short message like: ¨Thank you for contacting us, and have a nice day¨, or if somebody really will react to this critics on the personal level needed to even try to repair something. I am not fighting for the 120 USD I payed Orbitz for this fraud, but: Alamo, please buy some good beer from that money, and have a perfect toast on your company policies on my costs. It takes month to win a client, and seconds to lose him. You had one job, WELL DONE. Tourism Office in Cancun is getting this review also, lets see if they are interested in doing something against this kind of frauds against ALL tourists. As I am not the only one, maybe they are concerned of the reputation of beautiful Cancun & Yucatan. with best Regards and a lot of respect Matthias Heyer

Alamo guy trying to help put things under the tire. No damage was done to the car. They didn't send a tow truck after i requested it.

On my trip to cancun I show up to the Alamo rental desk and am taken from the airport to the rental office 2 min away. They pull up my reservation and require that I pay $24 extra a day for liability coverage which wasn't listed on the reservation I made online (only a notice that insurance is required). This charge increased my rental from $330 to $607 (they offered an upgrade for $3 extra a day). Nevertheless, I didn't have a choice with my timeline. I also brought proof of my chase collision coverage which enabled me to use their more affordable liability, but didn't reduce the cost. They also tacked on road side assistance which I learned later only applies to car accidents, not getting stuck. Later that day I drove north to explore the Isla Blanca Kite School along the beach where I got my front wheels stuck in the sand. Over the years I had this happen before. I spent an hour digging and trying to push myself out, as the night approached I called Alamo and they said they would send a tow truck which would easily pull me out. Honestly 3 ppl could have push the car out (I've towed many people myself). 3hrs later after my phone dies with really poor follow-up (awful follow-up) they sent 2 guys with an exchange car to help get the car out. No damage was done to the car and they kept saying "we're here to inspect the damage". I understood and helped them. We tried and tried for another 30-45 min with no luck (at that point I was covered with mosquito bites, dirty from digging and pushing), I kept telling them and customer service that they would need a tow truck, but they didn't listen. All while I needed my heart medication which was at my AirBnb, they didn't hurry any faster. My phone was died and I was on their schedule. On my way out the Mexican police stopped me saying that my lights weren't on the right setting. Coincidence the same cops drove past me twice when I was stuck and never stopped to help, they flashed their lights on me oddly. Moments later the rental guys who helped me arrived and we all spoke to the police together to explain that I was sorry and couldn't understand what they were saying. After 30-40 min of being is shocked that I was being accused of improper headlight use Alijandro and other guy (Alamo employees) get me on the phone to their manager who tells me I have 2 options. One, they're going to add a charge to my rental bill to pay the police for this completely made up situation. When did the cops accept payment for traffic issues through rental car companies? (this has to be illegal) Two, arrest me and take me to jail for the night. (how is this even an option?) I didn't do anything except be an american in mexico. I hadn't eaten or drank anything for most of the day and was at the end my my luck. I tell the police that I'm really sorry, I don't understand what's going on, they don't seem to care that I've just been stuck 1 hr out of the city standed trying to get my rental car out and just hold my ID as a bargaining chip. Eventually they give up and tell me to go, but not before Alijandro tells me I need to pay him and give them tips. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that Alamo and it's employees are working with the cops to rob and intimidate their customers. I felt so violated - after driving to the breach, not doing anything wrong. A casual day after work turned into 5-6 hour nightmare. I'm still awaiting the bill for the tow truck and I'm nervous that it will be another fiasco of issues, made up fees and stress when I really just needed a break. Please avoid this company, I caution all other american travelers.

    I SWEAR. DONT BOOK!!

My reservation L50305859C7, was booked to be picked up on April 2. While I was on my flight to the destination, our plane had to make an emergency landing which caused us to miss our connecting flight outside of my control. I called hertz corporate number and informed them of the situation and they informed me that they would notate it on my account so that my reservation would remain the same and I would just pick up at the airport 1 day late. When I arrived in Cancun on the morning of April 3rd, I explained the above information to the receptionist. They called the manager who said they would resolve it and just said to get on the shuttle and come to the hertz office. When I got there, I explained the above-mentioned details to the clerk who stated my reservation was in the process of cancelling and I could only start a new reservation: at 7 times the original booked rate. I asked to speak to a manager; a taller gentleman in his early 40s. He became immediately dismissive and said there was nothing he could do for me and began acting extremely rude and unprofessional. He then became rude and dismissive to my pregnant wife who was standing there with my 6 and 8 year old children. When I called him out on that he immediately became PHYSICALLY defensive and walked around the counter getting in my face in a manner as if he wanted to FIGHT me. All of this was in front of my pregnant wife who was sobbing and my children who were also crying at this point. He then had to be PHYSICALLY RESTRAINED by his co-workers. When I asked for his name he covered his badge and refused to show me. He was a larger Hispanic male with short hair in his 40s. My wife and children and I then left on foot to walk to find a different rental car company. I am absolutely disgusted with the lack of professionalism demonstrated by this "MANAGER". As a professional who works in law enforcement, I was appalled by his behavior. Stay away from this company.

Having finally given up any hope of a positive resolution, I'm posting online about my experience…read morebeing scammed at this Hertz location in the hopes that it will at least help steer others away from here. Here's how it works. You make your reservation online (in our case, we were pleased to reserve an SUV for 15 days for under $800, which seemed like an amazing deal). I had read on various forums that we should book directly with a local company, but I ended up deciding that it was worth it to go with one of the bigger name companies in case anything went wrong. It was a mistake. Once you show up to pick up your rental, one of two things happen. If you're lucky (like my Dad was, who was picking up at the same time as me), everything goes smoothly and you get your rental without any issue. If you're unlucky, they tell you that it is "illegal to rent a car without additional insurance" and tell you that you owe an additional $500+ on top of the $800 reservation, and that they will not give you a car unless you pay for this insurance. Not sure how you end up in one category or the other. It may be luck of the draw - maybe my Dad just ended up with an honest person checking him in, while I randomly ended up with the scammer. More likely, they saw that I was exhausted from a long day of travel with three young children and correctly recognized that I wouldn't put up too much of a fight, and also wouldn't call their bluff and just go to another rental agency. From subsequently reading about this scam on message boards, it sounds like if you really stand your ground and fight back, they will eventually give up and let you have the car for the price you reserved it for, but it can sometimes take hours and I definitely didn't have the capacity for that. Also, if you're thinking "my credit card provides rental car coverage", that's not going to help you. They just tell you that you can't have the car without paying additional money. Pointing out that my father wasn't required to pay the additional fee didn't make any difference (and honestly we didn't want to push too hard on that because we were glad he wasn't a victim of the same scam!) If this happens to you, you'll reach out immediately to Hertz customer service, but they will tell you there is nothing they can do until after the rental is completed, and to ask the Hertz staff about it when you drop the car off. You will follow instruction and ask the staff about the situation when you drop the car off. They will be very sympathetic and agree that what happened to you was wrong, but they will say they can't help you and you'll need to reach out to Hertz directly to resolve things. So, you'll reach out to Hertz. If you're like me, you will spend 4-5 months speaking to dozens of different customer service representatives trying to get someone to understand and care, but it will ultimately be for naught. Most of these reps were very kind, but they all said the same thing: "We spoke to the location, they said you agreed to the extra insurance, so there is nothing we can do". The fact that I was aggressively forced into signing for this insurance under threat of having my rental taken away did not seem to matter to any of these people. If you're thinking "but I have status with Hertz, I'm sure it will be different for me", I regret to inform you that my President's Circle status made no difference in any of this. So, five months after being scammed out of $500, I'm finally giving up and admitting defeat. My final act is to post my account of this experience on the internet in the hopes that it might save others from the same fate! I wish I had done more research in advance, as stories about this specific scam are all over the internet now that I know what to look for. I'm mostly disappointed in Hertz as a company for allowing this sort of thing to happen, and refusing to believe me or do anything to make things right despite literally dozens of emails that I've sent to different customer support members.

But at the Fox Rent A Car counter in Denver Airport, they added massive undisclosed fees and duplicate insurance, turning the bill into $797.68 total charges, with $553.97 extra charged to my card! They charged: * ATS $111.92 (airport shuttle surcharge - not in the Expedia quote at all!) * Duplicate liability insurance: RLP $148.48 + SLP $150.00 (I only agreed to one additional coverage for ~$140 as an international driver) * Inflated Concession Recovery Fee $54.59 (vs $8.99 quoted). The total was $319.18, including $136.40 for the car rental, $61.78 in taxes, and $121.00 for rental insurance. When we arrived at the Budget counter in Cancún, the line of customers stretched out the door even though only six people were waiting to pick up vehicles. Despite having four counters open, it took nearly an hour to reach an agent. The delay was caused by constant disputes: every customer ahead of us was arguing with staff about a clear bait‑and‑switch, and many were visibly upset and raising their voices. After about 40 minutes, I asked my wife to hold our place in line and walked to a neighboring rental agency. An employee there urged us to rent from them instead, warning that Budget would try to charge us around $800. I explained that we already had a confirmed reservation for much less, so we decided to wait and see what Budget would do. When we finally reached the counter, the Budget representative told us we were required to buy their insurance or they would not release the car. We explained the multiple layers of coverage we already had, but he insisted it was not acceptable and presented a total of approximately $790. At that moment, it became clear why every customer before us was so angry. We objected and told him we could easily call for a ride and rent elsewhere for less. The agent said he needed to speak with his manager to "see what he could do." After about five minutes in the back room, he returned with a "best offer" of $669.08--still more than double our original confirmed price. He also confided that he had raised concerns with his manager about these practices but had been ignored. Save yourself the frustration, wasted time, and unexpected charges: do not rent from this Budget location at Cancún Airport.

BEWARE: as several other reviewers have pointed out, the ACE (seems like they now are and/or are…read moreoperated by Movii) in Cancun are SCAMMERS. Had fueling and insurance scams happen to us, after we avoided their false damage scam. 1. They charge you "required" additional insurance even though the reservation specifically states the price includes the required insurance ("Third Party Liability is included in all rental rates") and after the long wait for their shuttle to take you to a location far from the airport, you're stuck paying hundreds of dollars more just to get a car. 2. They lie about how much gas was initially in the car and then charge you an exorbitant amount for the (small) difference, even though we returned the car with more gas than when we received it. We carefully took videos of the outside of the car to ensure we avoid them scamming us for fake damage on return, but didn't think to take a picture of the gas tank display since it's written on the rental agreement, only for them to completely disregard that (like the ignored the terms in their own reservations). Seems like this gas scam is their (new) way of scamming those who they can't scam for fake damage. They're also super rude and aggressive, threatening us when we tried to indicate on the sales documents that we were being coerced into signing and paying for their scam charges.

Initially they said would take them another 50 minutes to retrieve me at 2 kilometers away. Eventually, I and another family arrived at the ACE/Movii car rental place. I had already paid for the car rental upfront on Wisecars for a full 12 days in Cancun MX which included CDW & TP insurance. When I arrived Ace (aka Movii) wanted a $400 USD ransome for what they claimed was insurance on the car in Cancun. This was about identical to the base rate I'd already paid beforehand for the car in the US. There was an extended "discussion", but of course I needed the car to get to Carmen and it was already dark outside. ACE/Movii simply wouldn't let me take the car without paying this ransome amount and a $1000 deposit (the family before me paid some amount more than that). ACE/Movii isn't listed on Googlemaps in the correct location, making it another outrageous event finding the place on the way back. Now, you know why.

I had a very frustrating experience with Europcar in Cancun…read more I booked my rental through Priceline and was quoted one price. Before arriving, I even called to confirm the deposit amount. However, when I got to the Europcar counter in Cancun, both the rental price and the deposit were completely different. After some back and forth, they adjusted it and I ended up paying a lower rental rate with a reasonable deposit, which I appreciated--but that was just the beginning. When I returned the car, they claimed that one of the wheel caps was damaged or missing. This made no sense because when I received the car, two of the caps on the left side were secured with zip ties, while the ones on the right side were not. It was clearly inconsistent from the start. Despite this, they charged me nearly 2000 pesos for a cheap plastic cap that is nowhere near worth that amount. What upset me the most was the misleading information about the insurance. At pickup, I was told I had full coverage and that I wouldn't need to worry about anything--whether I hit something or someone hit me, I was supposedly 100% covered. But when the issue came up, they said the insurance only covered certain types of damage and did not include things like tires or related parts. That was never clearly explained. Overall, the lack of transparency, inconsistent information, and unexpected charges made this a very disappointing experience. I would not recommend renting from this location unless you are extremely careful and document everything in detail before leaving the lot.
