When it was time to leave the resort, our transportation was scheduled for a 12:00 PM pickup. After waiting about 10 minutes and noticing none of the drivers were calling our names, we reached out to the staff for assistance. That's when we were informed that our names were not listed for the 12:00 PM pickup time. After finally getting in contact with customer service, we were told that our car had actually arrived at 11:00 AM. However, we never received any notification, email, call, or message that our pickup time had been changed. The customer service agent simply told us there was nothing they could do and suggested we book a taxi instead. This situation was extremely frustrating and stressful, especially considering we intentionally booked group transportation for safety reasons while traveling abroad

This went quickly and is automated by scanning your passport then walking through. Maybe took 10 min, and that's probably too long. Once through customs the mandatory duty free shopping walk through, then the tour section. I got grabbed by a sales person with the idea of helping me find my transportation. Got a nice map of the area as well as a few pointers and did not take them up on what they were offering. Once outside it became a free for all with a lot of shouting and yelling to offer transportation. Thank goodness I pre-arranged mine. Exiting the country went smoothly as well. TSA did a passport scan and ticket validation then through the line. Only large electronics had to be taken out, liquids could stay in bags. Seamless process and I liked they had about 10 different lanes open so there were minimal lines. Back through another duty free shop before entering the terminal. I found it interesting gates were not pre-assigned soooo like Penn Station, a group of people would move together once departure gates were announced. The terminal was pretty small and walking around was easy. Lots of food options and as that most were American restaurant. And no book store just one small section at a store. Lots of snacks, and small souvenir shops. Probably one of the only airports I've been to with ample seating.

At the location, we were required to leave our phones in a locker without a clear explanation beforehand, which effectively forces guests to purchase their photo package. This lack of transparency significantly affected our decision. We were later told by the travel agency staff that the restriction on phones (as well as jewelry like bracelets, rings, and necklaces) was for dolphin protection. However, this explanation was never clearly provided by the staff at the dolphin facility itself, where the rule was simply enforced without clarification. In addition, these rules did not seem to be applied consistently. For example, I was wearing a bracelet and was not asked to remove it, which made the reasoning behind restricting phones feel unclear and inconsistent. There were also communication issues. The staff continued speaking to us in Spanish even though we only speak English, while speaking English with other guests nearby. This made us feel ignored and uncomfortable. After we raised these concerns, the travel agency staff were not willing to properly address the issue. They repeatedly suggested rescheduling the activity instead of acknowledging the problem, and did not offer any other reasonable solution. We were also told that if we wanted to go again, we would need to pay for transportation again. Throughout the process, our request for a refund was consistently dismissed. Because of all these issues, we chose not to proceed with the activity. We hope management can improve transparency, consistency, and customer service for future guests.

I was a little nervous because I had read some bad reviews about the Amstar services. However, those reviews were proven wrong by the service I received. When our plane arrived, we got through security and customs rather easily. We had been told to head out of the terminal and look for people in blue flowered shirts. We were able to easily find the Amstar employees. We provided them with our flight number and names and they found my husband and me on their list. They gave us a skip of paper with details about booking our pickup to go back to the airport at the end of our trip. Within 10 minutes, we were headed straight to our resort. We happened to be the only people on the small van, which was nice To return to the airport, we used the personal concierge team at our resort to set up our return trip. We waited in the main lobby of our resort and we were picked up about 5-10 minutes after the set pick up time. We gave the driver our names and the piece of parapet with the return details. The van that picked us up was full, but it was a comfortable ride back. Both drivers were nice and helped us with our luggage. We'd be comfortable with using Amstar services again!

There are pros and cons to this resort. I think the experience really is per person/family because…read morelots of reviews seem to differ. I liked my stay in the beginning, but closer to the end I wasn't so impressed. Leading up, their Instagram page and the online website really hype up the place. We chose this location for our Babymoon with our first child (1.5 yrs old). I'm 5 months pregnant so the variety of food, pools, and fun for little one was a big appeal. Resort & staff: The resort is beautiful and clean, and the staff are very friendly. But some staff don't seem to know what's going on or how to help, while others are going through the motions. When we asked the concierge for directions to the Kids Club, she sent us to "PB"/lower level where the staff only was. This happened a lot as we saw many other guests saying the same thing "she told us to come to PB". Another staff member didn't know how to get to the Kids Club even though it was located right behind the kids water, a few steps away from where he was working. Kids & teen club: The activities and shows are really only worth it if your child is age 3 and up. You can't take your 1 or 2 year old into the clubs unless it's during family time, which are in the mornings during certain time. The one time we were able to go, no one was there. They were at the kids water park instead. Activities: On the app, they have a lot going on. But nothing actually goes on. Activities run behind schedule and the events you'd actually want to go to don't start until late at night. This didn't work for us most of the time but we just did some later naps for our babe to stay up late. The Circus and Magic shows seem to be the highlight be we're only available during the week. Other days the shows we planned to go to would be canceled morning of, and there would only be DJ's or karaoke. Food: A good variety but everything is pretty meh. Great for kids though as there is something for everyone! Check the app as certain restaurants are closed and others open. Dress code is semi strict for men. Reservations for Hibachi are a must! App can be finicky. Best eats for us: Fusion and Tres Colores Pool: All pools were very kid friendly, especially Mermaid. There was a little "beach" area to walk in and the alternative side had a little splash pool. There were splash pad areas at both pools. Mermaid pool appeared to have the younger kids while Sealegs had more teens and adults. Staff become a lot more friendly if you tip. Room: We had the Junior Suite? At the main building on level 4. There was a mini leak above the fan that we called in and put a towel down. They seemed to have "checked it out" because the towel was gone but it wasn't patched and it continued to drip the rest of our stay. We were worried because it was right above where we put our toddlers crib. 2 nights before checkout there was another leak by the A/C system or whatever it is, right in front of the bathroom door. The leak was spontaneous but a lot of water poured out. We called it in again and they said they would "check it out" again. We had to put 2 big towel on the ground and someone definitely checked it out because they just pushed the towels to the side. No patch work was done and it continued to pour. When I woke up at 5:00 am there was water from the bathroom door all the way to where the end of the closet was. As a 5 month pregnant lady, stepping in this and the potential to slip is absolutely upsetting. Even more upsetting that we made them aware of our room's problems 3x but they made no effort to fix it or to potentially put us in another room. We told them again at check-out and our concierge seemed to already be aware of where the leak was, and just apologized. Nothing more. Bali Beds: We reserved a Sealegs Bali Bed before our arrival. Keep your receipts! At check-out they tried to say we owed them an extra charge of $150. We showed our email and they had to call someone to double check. Took about 15 minutes. At the end of the day it is a tourist destination, so they do what they can. We spoke to some other families (with kids ages 5 and older) who said they love it here and have come back. For me, I personally wouldn't recommend and would try a different resort.

The resort was clean (very clean), things worked as intended, the staff was EXTREMELY friendly and very helpful, and the food was good! It always helps when you're in Mexico and you get good weather (which we did) but these folks had the grounds and resort, itself, firing on all cylinders. My down-rankings were in the lack of daily engagement and night-time activities. Besides a massive party thrown for the superbowl, I didn't notice any nighttime activites (could be my fault for not looking into it more) and the daily activities existed but the staff didn't really try very hard to pull people "into the fight", if you will. Having said that, these luxuries that I've seen at other brands did not take away from the wonderful experience that my friends and I had!

We enjoyed the expansive property with tons of restaurants, pools, and bars. All staff members were very engaging and friendly. We were underwhelmed by the guest room. A serious facelift is in order. The furniture was all scratched up, the drawers didn't close, and the sink barely drained (one of the stoppers appeared to be stuck). We almost got trapped outside on the second floor balcony because the electric key pad didn't work. Good thing we didn't shut the door! Housekeeping arrived at 4:45 PM on our second day, but we were already getting showered and ready for dinner. The only reason for the 3 Yelp stars is because of the Awaken Your Senses dinner. This was incredible! Unique and awe-inspiring. It was $195 per person, but it was multiple courses, wine/alcohol pairings, and digital entertainment. The service was impeccable. Some of the best we've ever experienced. This experience is a splurge, but if you're a foodie, check it out. We were offered a discount if we sat through a Timeshare session at 8:00 AM, but we hard-passed/declined. If you don't mind the room being a bit dark/dingy/old, then this could be a suitable all-inclusive option.

The resort is huge with tons to do, and we loved seeing wildlife like monkeys and capybaras around the property. Resort/Room: We stayed on the Heaven (adults-only) side and enjoyed a pool-view room. It was quiet inside despite the party outside, though the room did show some wear and tear (peeling headboard, slightly dirty tub). Still, it was comfy overall. Food: The food was just... okay. By no means authentic, and not AMAZING culinary revolutions, but it got the job done. Umo (Mexican restaurant) and Faro (buffet) were some of the better options on property. Staff/service: The real standout was the staff. Everyone was kind and welcoming and put it attention to detail to the smallest thing that real made a difference. Big shoutout to Alex (Bali bed attendant) at the Heaven pool for being super attentive and fun! Pro tip: Get off the resort at least once! You are doing yourself and the locals such a disservice if you just never leave. The area is rich with history and culture: Chichen Itzá, Tulum, Coba, 700+ cenotes, you name it. It's worth stepping out of your little paradise for 8 hours, I promise you. Overall: the amenities and activities were great, and the staff truly made the experience better. If you're looking for peace and quiet, I'd recommend staying on the Heaven side, though keep in mind it's a bit removed from the rest of the resort. If you want to be more central to everything, consider the family side instead.

This was our first time staying at a Barceló property…read more Although I can see where the bad reviews are coming from when I compare it with other places we have stayed in Cancún previously. The 4 stars are not for the food but rather the amount of things they have for all ages. Every night they have some kind of entertainment for kids and adults, the casino, the free water activities like kayak, snorkeling, and more. The Maya Beach room as a premium member was roomy and clean. We had an ocean view which was nice with a jacuzzi tub in the balcony. The bed was okay, the pillows were pretty flat. The pools and the kid pool area were great. We were able to go to all 3 pools for other locations. Caribe did have the best kids pool if your kid is older; we didn't go because our son is only 2. The beach area is very tropical with lots of palm trees and shade and lounge chairs that you can enjoy. All the workers were super nice and welcoming. Now the food isn't their strongest suit at this place. They had made a reservation prior to us arriving for all 4 nights, which was nice because we didn't have to deal with "sorry, we are full". We tried the Italian, Spanish, and hibachi. Italian was straight NO for us. It lacked flavors, the pasta was uncooked, and the pizza was whatever. The salad bar at Italian had everything warm, and we went at 7 p.m. Don't even get me started with their cannoli as dessert; just order ice cream. The hibachi we went to was whatever as well. I thought the fried rice and meat they cooked was salty, and you can order one item per each section (appetizer, main dish, & dessert). Spanish was not WOW but was for sure better than the other two. Salmon was cooked nicely, and my husband had lamb, and he said that was yummy. I did order lentil soup, and somehow they brought me garlic soup, which was a bowl of salt with water basically. Buffets: we did try two of their buffets - the main one by the Maya Beach reception and the bar and grill by the pool. The breakfast at the main was had good selection of everything for everyone. Of all 4 days we stayed there was one day where we felt the lunch buffet wasn't good. We mainly didn't like the bar and grill by the pool and felt that place just lacked a lot of food options. We did have free room service with our premium level however the menu items were not at all appetizing for us to order anything. You can't get food ordered by the pool like other resorts so if that's something you like this place lacks that's. The drinks were okay nothing amazing just like any other all inclusive resort. The premium lounge did have patron and some other bit known brand alcohol for self service. What i also noticed is that they didnt have a coffee shop on site anywhere to get good cup of coffee. They have automatic coffee machines that you can get your cappuccino and latte and stuff. Overall we enjoyed our stay due to the activities and things to do and the tropical ambiance of the resort.

We came to Barcelo Maya Caribe the last week of july with a large group. This was my 2nd time…read morestaying here and we were very disappointed in the drop off this time round. Lets start with the rooms. Rooms are outdated, lamps dont work, shower grout is cracking, they didn't provide hand towels for the bathroom and each time we asked they said they were out. On our third day, there was a huge water leak on the third floor that caused water damage on some of the rooms where they had to move one of our friends to a separate room. The TV channels were mainly Spanish with hardly any English options. Also they say the rooms fit 4 but if your going with older kids, you will be very crammed with hardly any space to move around. We also killed 5 large spiders during our stay as they would crawl into our luggage. Mini fridge was small and they never re-stocked our fridge with beers or water throughout the week. When we had came in 2019, they would restock us daily, including liquor. Appears as though those days are long gone. Now to the food, the buffets served cafeteria food, with breakfast probably being the best thing they served. Some of the better options such as the fried fish, was limited and you had to look for it. There were coffee machines to serve yourself and was disappointed that there wasn't a coffee shop on site. Similarly, the liquor being served was low quality and the bartenders were inconsistent in serving better liquor, which told me it all depended on their mood or if they thought you would tip them. You have to upgrade to a premium bracelet for better liquor but even then the liquor was still low quality. For the reserved dinners, we selected the mexican, Spanish, Japanese and French dinners. By far the best dinner was the Japanese teppanyaki with the Spanish and French restaurants being decent and having a good ambiance. However the mexican food was a huge disappointment. They were skimpy on the portions, the food came out cold, and the meals lacked flavor. When we asked the waiter about the cold food he told us it was because it was already past 9 pm, as if that's an excuse to serve us cold food. The waiter looked annoyed at us and we felt they were rushing us out of there. Considering this is Mexico, we would have expected a much better experience in the mexican restaurant, but it was a complete let down. The night we had french food, we sent our kids to have Italian. They were disappointed that they had ran out of appetizers and the food wasn't good. They were in and out within the hour which was shocking. Finally, the pools and the beach were decent and probably my favorite part of the property was the gym. The grounds are so vast that it never felt too crowded which was a positive. They also had different events and shows happening every night so that was also a positive. The bowling alley became an insurance policy for us on food and coffee whenever the dinner was bad so I do give a thumbs up to the bowling alley. Considering we came with a large group (18 to be exact) hoping for the experience we had the first time, this was a complete let down. We would never come back and would urge people to do their homework on what really matters to them before booking.
