If you do the Chichen Itza trip don't do the deluxe. For an extra $35 (us) my "continental breakfast" was a bag with a banana, granola bar, bologna sandwich and apple juice. We booked a travel excursion in Cancun Mexico for a day on Isla Mujeres. The pick up driver was out of control. First off he was late. From the moment he pulled up at the hotel he was speeding and actually missed the entrance due to his speeding. We were loaded into the car. He was excessively speeding weaving in and out of different lanes to avoid traffic. He was also texting and driving. 15 minutes into the drive, he switched lanes and rear ended another driver. 4 of the friends i was with were thrown around the car. Thankfully no one was seriously injured, broken sunglasses, bruised knee and I had a facial bruise sustained from the accident. The driver did not speak english, asked if we needed a hospital. We declined as we were all in a bit of a state of shock. One passenger who spoke spanish was handed an incident report. We were then transported to the excusion via another driver. We were not even provided the option to return to the hotel after being in car accident !! We reached out to the company upon our return, spoke with the agent we booked with. We have heard NOTHING. No email, call or text to apologize or even address the situation. it was HORRIBLE experience. I would NOT recommend any of their services, HIGHLY DANGEROUS. read more

Generally speaking they are great. Once you're on the ride the rides are smooth and efficient, the drivers are professional, the staff are well prepared to receive you at the airport. My only complaint would be they often try to pressure you into listening to presentation and sales offers while you're waiting for transportation to hotels. Other than that I'd say five stars. As for the excursion, this was the selling point for me on Amstar. The day of the excursion, one member woke up with food poisoning. The member decided to try and stick it out. After getting on the shuttle that took us to the boat launch and waiting at the boat launch the member decided they were not able to do the excursion. After working with Amstar they were and to get us on the same excursion the next day (no extra cost) and provided us with a free shutter back to our resort. Very kind and considerate workers. read more

The only issue is when we booked our all inclusive trip we were not given a confirmation number or the name of transportation company. That's probably more the hotel fault. I have taken many excursions with Amstar over the years and this is the first excursion that was very disappointing on many levels. First, I didn't expect an 8 hour trip to turn into a 13 hour journey. Second, I didn't expect to be "fleeced" throughout my trip. The trip was supposed to leave our hotel a little at 7am and we got a late start - it was not an Amstar guide. She was from another agency but Amstar put us under her guidance. She kept calling us all of her "children" which was cute at first but until I found out that she secretly abuses her children lol. The first stop was supposed to be for people who didn't bring aqua socks on the trip but it ended up being the first fleecing of the trip. We were all tagged with numbers so I am assuming this is how she got a part of the sales cut. Prices were inflated - everything was half off but the prices were still very high. They gave us free shots of liquor to loosen up the purse strings. For example, they wanted $90 for a bottle of Blackwell 007 rum that you can purchase for $50 max other places. We got "stuck" at this place for almost an hour because the tour guide needed to pick up another group that they couldn't find on the way to the store. They picked up the other five people and we had to wait until they made their expensive purchases. We made it to Dunns falls where we were told that everyone in Jamaica survives on tips and how we needed to tip almost everyone - of course they said to save $$$ so that everyone could get a tip - aka them at the end of the journey. I get that people need to survive and they had side hustles etc in Jamaica but this was a bit over the top. We had lunch at Scotchies which is highly rated; however, it was not their best showing. We got the jerk chicken which was dry and lacked flavor. The resort jerk chicken was much better. Beans and rice lacked flavor as well which was disappointing. On the way to Bob Marley's place, she told us about how the quality of weed was far beyond what you can get anywhere else and that they only took cash. However, we were told to not let that get in the way because she could get the cash from us back at our hotel room. Once we got close to the Bob Marley house, she had us meet with her dealer who again inflated prices. A pre-rolled joint was $25 and people outside the place were also trying to sell us goods. I liked the quote "leave a joint on Bob's grave unsmoked vs. a candle". You know after the stupid tourists left they were grabbing the joints and reselling them. We had to wait 45 minutes for a guide at Bob Marley's who was so high he could barely function. His jokes were at best annoying and he kept asking for tips for the band that played two songs, etc. Bob Marley would be rolling over in his grave seeing how people were using his image to make money. It was an afront to his legacy. After leaving we had the long journey back to the hotels. The only bright spot was our driver who had to navigate the narrow roads with a big bus. Kudos to him for his excellent driving abilities. We finally got back to our hotel a little before 8pm which was almost 13 hours after we left the resort. The next day I complained to the Amstar reps about the trip - they pretended to be in shock but they knew the deal. They said they would register a complaint which I highly doubted they did. There was never an offer to give us a discount or anything. We were supposed to take a shopping trip the next day so we were all very gun shy at this point. Of course, the shopping trip was moved to the afternoon because they didn't have enough victims - oh I mean tourists for the first one. The shopping was our third Amstar excursion for the trip. Obviously, I was disappointed on many levels with my entire experience. I have been to 26 countries and never have seen anything like this before and hopefully never will again. read more

I booked a trip to Chichen Itza from our hotel in Playa Del Carmen. We spent 3hrs on the bus picking up other passengers. Our first stop was for a bathroom where you had to walk through a labyrinth of stalls to get to the actual bathroom. They promised lunch, which was just a trip back to the same gift shop where everyone who tried to sell you a T-shirt was now serving you mediocre food. The other stop to a swimming hole was a bore and we were told it would take the same 3hrs additional to drop everyone off, so we got in a cab. Luckily we could afford to do that or a whole day from 6:40am to 8:30 would have been wasted! On my recent visit to Cancun, I stayed at Secrets the Vine resort. Amstar had a representative at my hotel that would sign people up for their trip to Chichen-Itza. I was a little nervous because they had low ratings and they were a little more expensive than the other companies I saw online. However, I only had one more day left and I really wanted to go. I was quoted a price of $159, whether I did the full 14 hour trip to Chichen-Itza and Cenote or I did the express 8 hour trip to just Chichen-Itza. I was told they would pick us up right in front at 7:30AM, and that was accurate. We boarded the bus, which had comfortable and we began our voyage. The bus was fully packed and I believe the only extra seat was the one next to us, which was great because it's a long seat and you want to be comfortable. The hosts of the tour, were excellent. They were non-stop working serving and giving us different things from food to information about the Mayan Ruins. You will get a lot of things on the bus snacks, coffee, fruit, alcohol, water, candy, etc. they give you information in both English and Spanish, so nobody felt left out. They do spend a considerable amount of time trying to get you buy souvenirs (Mayan calendars and jewelry) and they did become a bit overwhelming, but it's part of the process. You will get a name tag, which is so you're able to stay with the group once you get to the destination. Our driver, Hugo was a perfect host and made our trip that much more enjoyable. I would recommend this tour and say it was worth every dime. read more

We went on a fishing excursion with Amstar as part of our UVC Hyatt Dreams Vista membership. I am not one to leave bad reviews but I feel like I need to warn others to not waste your time or money on this trip, just stay at the pool. Here is how our trip went. We met our driver in the lobby at 12:30. Where we were informed it was going to be an hour drive to get to the marina?!? there were multiple marinas around us within walking distance or close driving distance so a little confused as to why we needed to drive an hour. Once we got there, we were charged an additional fee for what they called "trip tax" $60 for 4 people after we already paid $700 for the trip in total. They put us on a small boat inside what I would call the "Barf Box". Completely enclosed wooden area with black couches that moved all over the floor in the choppy waves. We watched our guides troll fish for over two hours before we were even offered the opportunity to fish. They caught nothing and looked at us and just said, "the fishies just aren't hungry." We continued on inside the"Barf Box" where they let us bottom fish for maybe 30-45 minutes. Altogether, what was supposed to be a four hour deep sea fishing trip turned into a 6 1/2 hour sweat box - amusement park of the sea. Spare yourself! read more

Celebrated Husbands Birthday Nov 8th thru13th. Amstar was waiting at the airport upon our arrival. Once we arrived at the resort, Amstar had a person available each day to help with excursions, provide recommendations and they were wonderful with providing tour guides who were very knowledgeable and personable. Clean bus transportation, safe drivers and water was provided through-out the tours to ensure we stayed hydrated. Upon our return to the airport, Amstar was on time and delivered us safely. We recently traveled to Tulum for my sister's milestone birthday. We had not issues during our travel for arrival transport or destination transport. But upon our return/departure the driver took us to the Cancun airport and not Tulum which made us miss our flight. Amstar made us wait in the airport parking lot for 5hrs before they could resolve the issue. Because they wanted the driver to pay for the airfare out of pocket vs paying for it as a corporate (they said it's the drivers fault he has to pay for it). Of course the driver did not have the $5k USD to get us on a list minute flight for three adults. I was floored. I told them they just need to be honest with us ambit what's happening so this can be resolved. They finally settled on getting us a hotel and a flight for the next day which they would pay for. They were to provide a like for like experience meaning all-inclusive for all-inclusive and they agreed. But here's the catch they sent us to the hotel and did not secure reservations they just called to see if they had availability. They fully expected us to pay and then pray to be reimbursed. It was unreal the amount of deceit and misinformation we experienced. Thank goodness for Martin at the Breathless Cancun Soul who took care of us or we would have been stranded in Cancun as the driver just left us there, Amstar left us in a foreign country with no transport or support. It was utterly disgusting, made us feel unsafe and afraid. I'm completely disgusted and still looking for ways to resolve the issue now that I'm safely home. I have already reviewed the issues with the Tour of Isla mujeres in Cancún elsewhere (the operator was Cancun Sailings), but would not recommend Amstar at all as they were very innacurate and dishonest when selling us a a VIP experience to Isla Mujeres. Crew was amazing but every other aspect of our tour to Isla Mujeres was a mess. Pick up at our hotel happened 20 min late. The sailing takes place from a very small marina over 30 min away from the hotel zone (even though we were told 7 min when we bought the package). We he snorkeling was crowded but ok. The food at their VIP experience place was subpar and the beach was so crowded you could not even walk (let alone rent a chair to enjoy it). The whole Island is a gigantic touring trap, extremely crowded so you could not even enjoy. The last drop was the return home, the place was a mess, they loaded into a parking lot and took ages to get us into buses. Ours was as late, they kept promising 10 more minutes, we had two extremely tired and hungry children waiting on a parking lot till they called the busses in. Do not waste your money with these experiences - and the so called VIP experience is a complete misnomer. Would have been happier staying in our hotel and enjoy the beach there. read more

Both of our airport drivers were professional and vans were updated offering bluetooth connections, air conditioning, and good seat room. Our resort representatives, Kamble and Pamela, were so nice, very educated on excursion offerings, and went the extra mile to ensure our allergies/return time requests were handled. booked a Tulum tour with Catamaran trip to coral reef for snorkeling. Once on catamaran we were informed that weather is not good to go snorkeling (what kind of captain doesn't check weather before departure?!) We were told that we will be taken to a cove - basically a boatyard just yards from hotels to "snorkel". We were parked inches from two other big boats and were told to "have fun". Several of us expressed out disapproval for this substitution and nothing was done about it. That's is NOT what I paid nearly $700 for four people for. There is not even enough space for all people to sit. I called customer service and was told that since I boarded the boat, I used the trip and no refunds will be given because "you are on a boat". I firmly believe that this is a common practice. Go out a bit and come right back up because of the weather. Now we are all crammed on top of each other with blasting music and eating lunch on our knees. Far cry from what we paid for. read more

We used Amstar for the roundtrip airport transportation (Private Deluxe) and we booked all of our excursions through Amstar and it was convenient and well-priced. Upon arrival in Cancun m, Valerie was very friendly with check-in and letting our driver know we had arrived (our flight came in 20 minutes early). She was very friendly! Our drivers for arrival and departure were very friendly and offered sodas and beer on arrival. When booking our excursions, which we did in advance, I had the pleasure of working with Said Campuzano. His positive energy, excitement and friendliness got me even more excited about some of the things we had planned. On two occasions the pickups for our excursions had changes in times and they emailed me directly letting me know about the changes. Amstar had excellent customer service and amazing employees. I absolutely recommend using them and this will be the first company we look for when traveling to other countries and definitely when we come back to Mexico. read more

They reassured me I would be reimbursed for the price difference. It's been two weeks and I have yet to be paid the difference. Our driver was friendly and the van was fine. My other issue was we only booked a one way since we were meeting up with family. We did not get to the hotel until 2:30am, and they called our room at 8am asking if we wanted to book a van back. I said no, and they also called the next day also at 8am asking the same thing. There is not much communication and take your money. read more

Return Shuttle Never Showed Up. Nearly Missed Our Flight. My wife and I were VERY disappointed with AmStar. We stayed at the El Dorado Seaside Suites and had a reservation for AmStar to pick up us up at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24. Two other people were waiting for the same AmStar shuttle. At 9:15, I called the 24 hour AmStar customer service number, could not reach anyone, and was on hold forever. This was a very stressful situation since we were stranded and needed to get to the airport to catch a return flight. We had to arrange for other transportation at the last minute and barely made it to the airport to catch our flight. To this day, AmStar has not responded. read more

Would never book again. This was a major mistake to book my airport transfer with this company. When we arrived at Tulum airport, the company made us wait around for a driver while others received service right away. Once we finally got a driver, he was incredibly rude. Waiting for the driver to be ready took us an extra 45 minutes once we got off our flight. When returning, I attempted to contact Amstar multiple (4-5) times the day before in order to change our pickup time as our return flight changed. Amstar ignored all of our attempts to contact them, showed up at the wrong time, and marked us as a no-show. READ IF YOU ARE TRAVELING ABROAD AND USING THIS COMPANY FOR AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION! If I could give this company a negative number of starts, I certainly would. I booked roundtrip airport to resort transportation in Punta Cana from 8/4 until 8/12 with Amstar DMC for 11 adults and 2 children under 2 years of age. On 8/11, a day before our departure from Punta Cana, I met with the Amstar DMC representative at the hotel lobby to coordinate the details of our return. The Amstar DMC representative contacted his customer service team to update the departure time on our reservation and a confirmation email was immediately sent to me showing the pick up time and location. On 8/12, our pick up at the resort was scheduled for 2:00 AM at the hotel lobby and we were all ready to go by 1:45 AM. The only problem was-- NO ONE FROM AMSTAR DMC SHOWED UP TO PICK US UP! I waited 45 minutes at the resort lobby, at 2:00 AM, with 2 children under 2 years of age and 11 other family members and friends, to catch our 5:00 AM flight and our Amstar DMC driver never showed up! Upon calling customer service several times from my cellphone and the hotel lobby phone, I finally reached the representative I met with the previous day. After I explained to him that our driver didn't know up, he proceeded to tell me that I had woken him up and that he wasn't feeling well. He said he would reach out to his supervisor and get back to me but recommended that all 13 of us take a cab to the airport so that we wouldn't miss our flight. After calling him several times without a solution for the problem, we finally took a cab to the airport and made it just in time to catch our flight. Upon my return home, I called the Amstar customer service line to request refund and reimbursement for the taxi services. I was told that I would receive a full refund and reimbursement within 7 business days. Later on, I received an email from an Amstar DMC customer service supervisor stating that a full refund and reimbursement for the taxi services would not be possible, only the return transportation charges would be refunded. Therefore, if you want a reliable company to provide airport to resort roundtrip transportation while on vacation in a foreign country, I urge you to please consider a different company as Amstar DMC has proven to be unreliable and unprofessional in various ways. Paid in advance, they left us at the hotel stranded with no heads up, no warning, claim they sent an email when asked for the email, they went silent. Mind you I confirmed everything either way their hotel rep before the date of my departure. Funny I can't get her to respond to my text messages that the airport transportation never showed up. I had to get an emergency cab to the airport which set me back almost $200. I would not recommend this company. 2 bad experiences is enough for me. When you travel to Mexico, it's best to book the airport shuttle through your resort's partner if the shuttle service is not included in the resort fees. Because the resort and shuttle service company are partners they tend to work together well. In addition, the shuttle service usually have an onsite representative at the resort to assist you with additional tours and in case if there are issues. That said, Amstar DMC seems to be partners with several resorts such as Hard Rock, AMR Collections (Zoetry, Secrets, Dreams, Sunscape). We used them several times for the airport transportations at Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta and Cancun and didn't have any problems. It's fairly easy to find the rep. at the airport. The vans are comfortable and fairly new. Be sure to print the voucher to show them in case they can't find your name or confirmation number. Booking a tour through Amstar DMC is a different story. Their webiste is not up-to-date. We booked through the website and had some issues. Surprisingly, the onsite representative didn't want to or couldn't resolve the issue. We got the typical run around. Emails, phone calls...nothing worked. You just don't want to have an unpleasant experience to ruin your vacation. In short, use them for airport shuttle but not for excursions. read more

WARNING! DO NOT USE AMSTAR!!! BEWARE! - Especially if you book with Patty Flores!! Our wedding was in November 2021 located at Secrets Vallarta Bay and we had 24 guests with our wedding party. The first night at the hotel, I booked a sunset catamaran cruise for all 24 of us and needed transportation so the hotel directed us to Amstar to book transportation. I was put in contact with Patty Flores. I stated exactly what I needed, how many people, and where the location of the cruise was. She gave me a quote and a link to prepay. I prepaid and sent an email stating I am confirming the transportation along with sending payment. *(Side note - I also asked for a quote for a different night to get to another event for a smaller amount of people. I chose not to use Amstar as a taxi was cheaper and I stated that in an email to Patty) Come the night of the *scheduled* transportation, we have all of our guests in the lobby waiting for the 4:30pm departure. The transportation was supposed to arrive at 4:15, depart at 4:30 to get to our cruise on time. NO SHOW! Instead of being able to relax and enjoy the first night of vacation for my WEDDING, I am having to scramble to find transportation for all 24 people. (My wedding coordinator was AMAZING and was an extreme help!) We waited and waited and finally at about 5:30, two vans showed up. We were now over an hour late to our departure for the sunset catamaran cruise. We went on the cruise but they stuck to the original schedule and returned at the previously scheduled time, so we missed out on over an hour of our excursion due to an Amstar error. This private cruise was scheduled for 3 hours and cost over $3,000 so that is a $1,000 waste of money as we did not get to fully experience this excursion. Now here we are 3 months later. I have had multiple emails back and forth and Patty is a TERRIBLE customer service representative. She is the one who dropped the ball, she is the one who did not process the transportation and the reason why we were never picked up at the scheduled time. I have documentation proving I booked this in advance, however she is extremely untruthful trying to cover her own butt stating "I never confirmed" and that "I chose not to book" speaking about the secondary trip. Again, I have a prepaid confirmation with dates and times as well as a email confirmations. Patty is taking no responsibly and Amstar isn't doing anything either. I have been told multiple times that I am going to get in contact with supervisor and I have not received any emails back so I'm resorting to leaving reviews so other people don't have to go through what we went through. Scam company. 5 of us paid for the Chichen Itza tour on 5/16/2023. Bus pulls up early, then leaves before we could get on the bus. Scheduled for 7:30, the bus.pulled away at 7:23. Amstar is a scam! There are plenty of other choices. read more
