I'm surprised to see an average 2.2-star Yelp rating for this business (137 reviews), at the time of writing this review. Our experience was a solid four stars. Side note: Based on some of the pictures here, I'm also surprised to see that Best Day Travel hosted what appeared to be an official Yelp event back in March 2016. My wife and I booked a vacation package to Grand Velas Riviera Maya resort, located in Playa del Carmen, through Costco Travel. As part of that package, BD Experience was our ground transportation between Cancun International Airport and the resort. The arrival and departure transfers went well. Both ways, we were safely and efficiently transported in nice, air-conditioned, private vans with music. Each way, it was just us and a dedicated driver. Getting from the airport to Grand Velas took about 45 minutes. The return trip from Grand Velas to the airport took less time, about 35 minutes. Upon arrival to Cancun and exiting the airport, it was very easy to spot the BD Experience employees holding Costco Travel signs. There were many BD Experience employees, wearing red shirts, and BD Experience branded vehicles. This appeared to be a popular service with a lot of American customers waiting in groups, clustered near the vans. We waited about 5-10 minutes outside before we were led to a van, our luggage loaded in, and on our way. Going to the resort, we rode in a BD Experience branded van. Going back to the airport, we were picked up in a sleek, luxurious, black Mercedes van. Both drivers were great. One of the drivers spoke very little English while the other spoke good English. Communication with BD Experience was done via WhatsApp. I mostly messaged with BD Experience's business account at +52 998 321 5963. I also messaged with Hugo Figueroa regarding our departure confirmation. I had a pleasant experience with Hugo. We had a good laugh about my WhatsApp profile picture with "Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Woooo! But seriously, everything with BD Experience went smoothly. Pickup times and other details were well communicated in advance. We had no issues. Bring cash to tip your driver. I suggest $5-10 USD each way. Tip more if you have a larger party with lots of luggage. In case we had any issues, Costco Travel gave us the following phone number for BD Experience: +52 998 113 1814. Avoid BD Experience -- Especially If You're Traveling with Kids or Want a Stress-Free Trip…read more We recently traveled to Cancun and booked BD Experience as part of a Travelocity package. I strongly advise avoiding this company if you're traveling with children or simply want a smooth, reliable experience. To confirm your shuttle, you're required to reach out to BD Experience about 24 hours in advance -- but they don't make it easy. You have to contact them through WhatsApp Business, and even then, they redirect you to a different number because the first one supposedly has issues. I followed the instructions and confirmed our arrival. No one ever reached out to me directly. Upon arrival in Cancun, we located their kiosk and were told to wait 30 minutes. Eventually, we -- along with several other groups -- were shuttled to our resorts without issue. The problems began the day before our return flight. I messaged them to confirm our pickup, only to be told that our booking only included a one-way trip to the resort. This was incorrect -- my itinerary clearly showed a round-trip transfer. I even sent them a screenshot as proof. Still, they insisted I contact Travelocity to obtain specific voucher numbers. After wasting time tracking those down, BD Experience finally acknowledged our round-trip booking. I requested a 10:00 AM pickup for our 1:00 PM flight. They refused, saying we had to leave at 9:00 AM because another guest was scheduled at that time and we'd have to share the shuttle. This change effectively cut short our last day -- our kids couldn't even use the pool before leaving. We were ready in the lobby by 8:30 AM. Multiple shuttle drivers arrived and called out guest names, but no one ever called ours. By 9:10, still no driver. I messaged BD Experience -- no reply. Ten more minutes went by. I asked the Hilton staff for help. One kind employee tried calling BD Experience (he speaks Spanish), but they didn't answer. At 10:14 AM, an hour after our scheduled pickup, BD finally responded via WhatsApp saying the driver was there and we weren't -- a complete lie. They didn't even attempt to send another vehicle, just told me to contact Travelocity for a refund. At that point, we were stranded with two small kids and no ride to the airport -- and already late. Thankfully, the Hilton staff stepped up. One of the lobby attendants (guy in a black t-shirt -- please thank him!) called us a taxi, which cost us $60 USD. We barely made it to the airport on time. If I hadn't insisted on leaving early, we might have missed our flight -- with a 3- and 5-year-old in tow. Can you imagine missing your flight, having to rebook last-minute, possibly being separated from your children during seating? Travelocity -- why are you partnering with a company that provides such unreliable service? BD Experience -- you caused us stress, wasted our time, and left us scrambling with young kids. If anyone wants proof, I have the WhatsApp chat log.

They picked tourists like us up from different hotels and gathered at their office/souvenir shop kind of location. Then split us up into Spanish tour or English tour groups .. we went in the smaller van with fellow English tour folks. Our guide was Tony, an older gentleman -- fluent in English and seemed knowledgeable in Mayan culture/history. He explained stuff throughout the tour. Places covered in this tour were Valladolid plaza & church, then buffet lunch at a retreat like location in between, swim at Ik-kil cenote; finally the incredible mayan pyramids at Chichen-Itza. Overall a wonderful trip and must do. Decent tour company. Only negatives - private tours may save time (instead of getting picked up & waiting at their office - good couple of hours in cancun itself); the tour guide selling stones or mayan birth certificates. etc. (well, it may be fun if you are into that kind of thing though).

Our hostel told us to bring snacks and said we would probably return around 5 PM. The bus arrived around 7:10 AM. After several stops, we were moved from a minivan to a coach, which took us to Cancun's Hotel Zone around 7:30 AM. We were told to get off and wait on the street. We waited from 7:30 to 9 AM with nothing to do. Breakfast was offered, but we bought coffee at the Oxxo next door because lunch was supposedly included. After another coach and another 30-minute wait, we finally left Cancun at 9:30. Between 9:30 and 11 AM, the coach continued picking up and dropping off passengers. Several guides and groups came and went, and we had no idea who was with our tour. Around 11:30, we arrived at the Tulum ruins and were immediately taken to a café where a latte cost 145 pesos. After bathrooms, it was about noon. We had been awake since 6:30 AM and had barely eaten, so I was becoming lightheaded. Our archaeological tour lasted about 30 minutes. Although the guide entered the site, he did not accompany or explain anything to us. We were left to explore alone. At 1:30 PM, the entire group was waiting at the café. The only person missing was the guide. We bought snacks because everyone assumed lunch was next, but the guide had told us to leave our snacks on the bus. We were then told to switch buses again, this time to a small minivan with broken AC--14 people in 33°C heat. When we asked about lunch, we were shocked to learn that it would not be until 4 PM. Around 2:30 PM, we stopped at a Mayan souvenir shop, which we expected. We left around 3 PM for Coba. After another ticket dispute, we entered at 3:15 PM. We were immediately told to pay 180 pesos for a bike carriage because the pyramid was 5 km away and entry for climbing closed at 3:30 PM. We felt this was unfair: after hours of delays, we were being pressured to pay extra to reach the pyramid in time. Some people could not get carriages and had to stay behind. We arrived at 3:30, but park officials said we needed to arrive by 3:15 to climb. They initially refused to let us up. After pleading, we were allowed to climb, but most of our group was not. We had never been told about the 3:15 deadline. At 4:30 PM, we reached a cenote restaurant for the included buffet lunch. The rice, meat and vegetables were cold, but we ate because there were no alternatives. When my boyfriend tried to drink his own water, restaurant staff told us outside drinks were prohibited and that we had to buy a drink. Few people wanted to swim in the cenote. Everyone was frustrated by the delays, poor planning and unexpected costs. On the return journey, a group complained about the day. Instead of addressing the feedback, the guide closed the minivan door and said, "If you have issues, complain to your representative." Around 7 PM, we stopped at a gas station and waited another 30 minutes while the guide argued about the bill. There was still no AC, and some passengers were worried about missing dinner reservations. The guide never addressed the fact that most of the group had been unable to climb Coba. My boyfriend also heard him complain that he was not receiving tips and was having a bad day. We finally returned to Cancun at 8:45 PM--12 hours after leaving. We paid $79 per person, roughly the same as our excellent Isla Mujeres catamaran tour. This experience was completely different. The day felt dominated by delays and extra spending on food, bike carriages and drinks. The guide even said, "What's $10 to you?" We can afford $10, but that does not make it acceptable to pressure tourists into unnecessary expenses. This was the worst tour experience we have had. The itinerary was poorly managed, communication was inadequate, and most of the group missed key parts of the tour. We felt disrespected and treated like sources of extra money. Avoid this company if you want a well-organized day.
