My family and I traveled to Mexico for New Year's and used Amstar for transportation to and from the airport. Finding them upon arrival was very easy, and we had little to no wait for our van. The staff was kind and professional, and I felt very safe throughout the ride. We called the day before our departure to confirm pickup, were told 9:30 a.m., and they arrived right on time. Overall, our experience was very pleasant. However, I gave three stars because my sister, who was on the same trip, did not have the same experience. She called to confirm her return transportation as well and was also told 9:30 a.m. While we were picked up without issue, she was left behind at the resort with my niece and nephew. She waited about ten minutes before trying to call Amstar, but no one ever answered. Had we known this would happen, we would have made sure they joined our van so they weren't stranded. I'm conflicted because our experience was great, but it's upsetting that my sister and her children were left behind after receiving confirmation. Told us at the airport there would be someone at our hotel to confirm our return transfer but the resort tells us upon arrival there is no amstar rep on site and to call to confirm. They told us to confirm flight 24 hours before. We called 15 times, were on hold for 20 minutes and then the line disconnected each time. We spent hours while trying to relax on the beach trying to connect with them. We eventually decided to just plan to take a taxi. They emailed me 2 hours before pickup to tell us to be checked out and in the lobby. Poor communication, poor planning, poor customer service. The only reason I give 2 stars is because our driver on the way there was nice and friendly. Otherwise, you're better off going with another more reliable company. read more

From start to finish these gentlemen were right on top of their job., please be sure that you go outside the airport and go as far as you can till you find Amstar do not speak to any of the people inside the airport. They are definitely not part of Amstar. The gentleman at Amstar have your name and your resort already set up they take care of your luggage they put you in a very nice vehicle air-conditioning running take you right to the resort . They check in with you the next day to make sure they give you the time for your pick up when you get through checkout they are there exactly what time they send you a tracking text so you can see how far they are they give you the name and the picture of the gentleman driving the vehicle and they get you right to the airport on time. Car was fine. Clean. Drivers were nice. The real issue was safety and the sale of a product they could not provide. I paid for roundtrip private car for my family from Punta Cana airport to our hotel, specifically because they offered a car seat for an additional fee. We were going to bring a car seat because safety for our toddler is very important to us. For both rides, the driver did not know how to properly install the car seat so we were unable to use it. I didnt bring a car seat because they were supposed to provide one. I paid a premium for their car service and yet they sold me a service they could not provide. After the first trip I let them know that they car seat could not be used because the driver had no idea how to install it. They assured me that for the ride home the driver would install the seat properly. When we got in the car to go back to airport, the car seat was not installed even close to the correct way. These were not the tyep of carseats we were used to so I did not know how to install it myself, but I did know that they were not installed correctly. The car seat could move around freely and was not remotely stable. Having drivers who do not know how to properly install car seats (despite selling the service) and therefore forcing passengers to put their children in unsafe situations is unacceptable. I then followed up demanding a full refund. Although they did drive us, it was unsafe and we paid a premium for a service they could not provide. I would have brought my own carseat and used a much cheaper taxi had I know they couldn't actually install the seat. After several emails they best they would offer is a refund for the car seat charge. So they offered zero compensation for selling a service they couldnt provide nor compensation for putting my family at risk. The AmSTAR Rep we spoke to at RIU Latinos (Alex) was not helpful. He was unable to adequately address our concerns and AMSTAR took zero accountability for the fact that they allowed themselves to be impersonated at the airport. Every customer who attempts to be transported by AMSTAR from Cancun airport is at risk not only to lose their money but also for their safety. In an environment where Americans feel unsafe in Mexico, Cancun is supposed to be a safe haven. As female travelers we seek that safety and AMSTAR failed in its job to provide safety to us and that is unacceptable. We were told that the shuttle was not available for 2 1/2 hrs and we can pay for a taxi & we would be reimbursed. Exhausting Logistics and Aggressive Vendors Ruined the Experience but Great Guides were present for site visits. My recent experience with Amstar was deeply disappointing. While there were a few bright spots, the overwhelming number of cons made our excursion days frustrating and exhausting rather than enjoyable. We signed up for three tours through Amstar, and the pattern was the same for each. The Major CONS: Horrendous Return Transfers: Being picked up from the hotel is quick and efficient. However, the return trip is a nightmare. What should be a direct journey turns into a 3-hour shuttle service, making endless stops to drop off every other guest before you. On one trip, with only 20 guests, we were the 6th stop, meaning we had to endure two more stops after ours, adding nearly an extra hour to an already long day. Spending 6 hours in a van for a 3-hour excursion is unacceptable. "Local Shopping" is a Forced Market Trap: The promised "local marketing" was not authentic. It consisted of a 45-minute stop at a diamond store and 30 minutes at a tequila store (both owned by the same company), followed by 2.5 hours stranded at a beach resort property fronting aggressive local vendors. We were not exploring a genuine local market; we were taken to tourist traps. Aggressive and Uncomfortable Vendors: The vendors at the final beach stop were relentless. They hounded us and were extremely aggressive, trying to force us to buy their products. As someone who doesn't smoke or drink, I was constantly pressured to participate in tastings and activities I had no interest in. It was stressful and the opposite of a relaxing vacation experience. The PROS (The Only Saving Grace): Excellent Tour Guides: Our guide for Chichen Itza, Nesto, was EXCELLENT. He was knowledgeable, engaging, and provided a wealth of fascinating information during the 2 hours we had at the site. Similarly, our guide in Tulum was very professional and informative. The quality of the guides is the sole reason this isn't a zero-star review. Conclusion: Unfortunately, the incredible guides could not make up for the exhausting logistics and uncomfortable, forced shopping stops. The cons significantly outweighed the pros. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Amstar's service and will not be using them again in the future. read more

My experience with Amstar transportation service was a positive one. We booked them through our travel agent for our trip to Cancun paying extra for private transportation. After traveling and going through the airport security, customs etc, we were so ready to get to our resort. Amstar staff was there waiting for us wearing their signature floral shirts. We were immediately greeted and our luggage was loaded into a brand new full size suv and we were on our way. In travels to the resort the driver had complementary drinks, both for adults and kids. I of course had a Corona. First drink of the week. Upon return trip back to the airport from the resort we had the same exemplary service. We advised when we wished to be picked up and they had a driver arrive on time. My tip is if you're traveling to a resort from the Cancun Airport, get the private transportation. It is well worth it. I ordered shuttle from Cancun airport to our hotel Secrets on the vine. We paid $26 online and we reserved in month in advance. Upon arrival they greeted us and they opened car for us and gave us cold water. Our driver said we have to wait for somebody but in 10 minutes he said we will go alone. He spoke good English and in 30 minutes we were at the hotel. We reserved return shuttle at the hotel and we paid $50 for a private shuttle. I am very annoyed with this company, We signed up with Unlimited Vacations and were provided with 5 free airport certificates for transpiortation to and from the Cancun airport. When I called to schedule my transportation I was told my certificate stated it was only applicable for the " nearest airport ". When we signed up with Unlimited Vacations there was no Tulum Airport. Now they are telling me we can only use the certificates at the Tulum Airport. Last year we were picked up from Cancun Airport. Deception? Absolutely ! This is an underhanded move and now we are forced to find and pay for transportation. I spoke with a supervisor and they were not helpful and did not offer a viable solution. We recently had a disappointing experience with Amstar due to misleading information provided during the booking process. We were informed that the zip-lining activity could accommodate individuals weighing up to 500 pounds, which led us to book the excursion. However, upon arrival, my fiancé, who is 6'7" and 275 pounds, was denied participation. This resulted in us losing an entire day of our vacation. Additionally, the following day we booked an adults-only hip-hop party boat. Contrary to what was advertised, there were children present throughout the event, and no hip-hop music was played. These misrepresentations significantly impacted our experience and fell short of the expectations set during the booking process. before leaving My fiancé and I were downstairs waiting promptly at 6:10 AM--the exact time we were instructed to be ready--for our scheduled Amstar transportation. When the driver was not there, we were advised to check out. I quickly returned upstairs to complete the checkout process while my fiancé used the restroom. When we returned downstairs, the driver was standing beside his vehicle with our bags next to him and the trunk open. Despite our efforts to explain that we had been waiting and only briefly stepped away as instructed, the driver refused to take us. Without acknowledging our explanation, he aggressively slammed the trunk shut in my face, got into the van, and drove off--despite sitting in traffic for an additional 3-5 minutes before leaving. Had the driver already departed before our return, we would have understood. However, the way we were treated--especially having the trunk closed in my face--was both humiliating and deeply hurtful. We had a very disappointing experience with Amstar during our stay at Hotel Haven Reviera Cancun From the start, it felt like they were more focused on selling to us than actually listening to our needs. We booked a $117 day trip to Las Mujeres Island through them, and it was a huge letdown. For the same price, we've had much better experiences with other companies--more time on the island, better service, and overall a much better value. We were a group of five families, and NOT a single one of us was satisfied with what we got. We all felt misled by the way the tour was presented versus what was actually delivered. This was the best part of my trip to Cancun- Getting picked up to go to the hotel (before I had to deal with the fiasco of being at the resort) and being picked on time to leave my horrible vacation! When you arrive in Cancun, you'll have plenty of people waiting around to take people the resorts. The first group of people are those who booked private transportation. If you have shared transportation, you'll need to go across the street. The people were very friendly in leading me to the right place. Once there, you are given an armband to get you to the right transportation company. There was a line and I was patient but there were people who were quite impatient and the transportation company did their best to get these travelers taken care of-especially if they were in big groups (they should have booked private transportation for their demands but I digress). I was a solo traveler, kind of lost in translation for a few minutes. After seeing a few groups get sent off, I was about to see if I was in the right line when one of Amstar's reps came up to me and provided the assurance that I would be taken care of. The rest of the transport went easy. I was told by my driver what stops they would be making, I used the free wifi to check messages, and before I knew it, I was at the resort. I wasn't even worried about checking my departure details on day 2 of my trip, but I received a call to my room from Amstar to book my departure on Tuesday in preparation for Friday. I know things happen, so travel plans I made in December could easily have changed 6 months later, so I appreciated the throughness of ensuring I left as desired to my current travel plans. I met with the Amstar rep downstairs in person to finalize my departure plans and received an email to confirm everything. Although the salesman did try to get me to purchase an excursion while I was with him to complete the transportation departure, he wasn't pushy about it. I'm sure just doung his job to offer. Departure was on time and on schedule despite several stops to other resorts. Amstar has it down to a science. Amstar was the transportation option given to us when we booked a last minute weekend getaway to Puerto Morelo. When we arrived we found the kiosk and we were directed to #43 parking spot where our van took us to our hotel. That's where things go left. After checking in to our resort on Friday. We attempted to contact Amstar to arrange our airport drop off on Monday morning. We called and called and could not get through to anyone. We checked for emails and any other correspondence that would help us to arrange our pick up time for the airport. On Monday morning, we begin to call Amstar for a pick up time. At 8:01am, we spoke to a representative who informed us pick up was 8:05am. We rushed to get our things and check out and at 8:12am we were told Amstar left because we were no shows. There was absolutely NO communication provided to us as to when our pick up time was. We called all weekend. We are now searching for transportation as Amstar scammed us. They were prepaid. Beware of excursions via AmStar Representative Julian Aradillas in lobby of Secrets Playa Blanca Cancun. Read all the "local understanding " fine print and confirm pick up time after excursion is "PRIVATE" not community pick up. After a two tank dive "it's expected to wait 1hour upon arrival at dock to shop, drink or eat you know". So a 1500 peso Uber ride back to resort with no apology from booking representative as "it's expected to wait" and you choose not to. So I guess it's a tourist trap for additional spending on a dock rather than quick return to resort. Lesson learned! BOOK PRIVATE EXCURSIONS don't trust AmStar for anything other than airport shuttle service. Also AmStar rep put hand up when we tried to get picture of his name tag and laughed at us with Secrets resort staff patting him on back when we exited area. Recently stayed at the Secrets Riviera Resort with an entire wedding party. The hotel staff did a great job. The problems were associated with transportation and tours. Amstar provided transportation and a catamaran tour to Isla Mujeres. We purchased two way transportation to the resort and then to the city of Cancun. Meeting with Julian in the lobby of Secrets, Amstar first could not find our reservation. Once we showed the receipt for two way transportation, they claimed it was return transportation to the airport. As our destination was Cancun and then to the island of Cozumel, we never had any intention of returning to the Cancun Airport. Amstar then required us to produce return airline tickets for departure at Cancun Airport, which was not our destination. Amstar did not honor the return portion of the trip. Experience with the Amstar Isla Mujeres catamaran tour was also marred by the captain requesting more tip money as the tour size was small in numbers and the crew "normally" received higher amounts. The overall tip amount seemed very good based on the size of the tour. It is a shame that the good aspects of Secrets Resort were stained by the transportation and tour company. Secrets should really evaluate the companies with which they are associated. Many guests will remember their experiences associated with the stay and will be less likely to return. read more

I've used this service on several trips procured via CheapCarribean and the option is always available right before I hit the payment button. The price is always right and I typically don't mind shared rides. My concern (which I just got hip to) is this service will attempt to sell you on a time share presentation while "arranging" for you to enter your shared ride. Additionally, they will require you to meet up with an Amstar representative while at your resort to sell you on an excursion. If you don't meet up with the Amstar representative you will need to hunt down someone to help arrange your return trip. In a perfect scenario, when I arrive to airport I should be able to board my prepaid shared ride with a predetermined pickup based on my return flight. read more

It appears AMSTAR does a huge business at the Cancun Airport- but the customer service is suffering as a result. When I booked with other shuttle services we got someone standing outside baggage claim with a sign with our names waiting to whisk us off to our resort with little or no delay. With Amstar we had to go search them out on the far side of the parking lot, wait to wade through the chaotic mass (rather than a line). Once checked in a representative took our paperwork, ripped off the voucher and ran off to find which van might be going in our direction. They told us usual wait is 25 minutes (for a pre-paid ride?) During that time we (and other passengers) were subjected to high pressure pitches to attend timeshare sales meetings. We were quite literally held and delayed until he exhausted his sales pitch, then the rep came back with our voucher and resumed looking for our ride. Despite many vans with drivers standing around no effort was made to get us to our destination in a timely manner. Once in the van our driver was nice and we did get the efficient ride we were looking for. Next time I'll go with a different van company and skip the parking lot shenanigans, delays and high pressure sales pitch. At the initial pick up from the airport, we were provided our paperwork. The paperwork included our confirmation tickets for the trip from the airport to our hotel and back. The representative reviewed the information and stated the pick up time from the hotel to the airport for our return trip. On the day of return, the driver showed up to my hotel 4 hours and 30 minutes before my departure. The agreed pick up time was 3 hours before my flight was to take off. Well first off, I feel really bad for what happened to the other two Yelpers who used Amstar recently. Luckily, I had no issues and my pickup and departure to and from the airport went very smoothly. My vacation package included an Amstar shuttle service to and from the Los Cabos airport. After making my way through the hustling scam artists in the lobby, I went outside and was greeted by a nice young gentleman from Amstar. I chatted with him for a while until the shuttle bus arrived and he gave me a contact to call to pre-schedule my pickup. My driver Jaime was really awesome! He loaded all of my bags into the car and we chatted during the ride to the resort. The ride wasn't too long since the airport was located only about 15-20 minutes away. I called the phone number the next day to schedule my pickup since the gentleman said to do it ASAP. I didn't realize that Arnold, the contact for Amstar, was right downstairs in the main lobby area of my resort. I ended up just going downstairs to the lobby and meeting with him. He was able to schedule a pickup time about 2.5 hours earlier than my flight. In the Bay Area, you really need to be there at least 3 hours early depending on the airline and where you're flying because the TSA and check-in lines are always ridiculous. I was kind of skeptical of the late pickup time, but Arnold assured me that it would be fine. And, he was right. Checking in for my departure at Los Cabos airport was a BREEZE! If only Bay Area airports were like this. Arnold also sold me on a Los Cabos tour with Esperanza's Tours. To be honest, I was totally planning on just chilling at the resort for the majority of the time and maybe just visiting the downtown San José area. But, damn am I glad that he sold me on that tour! The tour truly ended up being one of the highlights of my trip to Cabo! Would totally do it again and thanks him, I was able to enjoy it. When it came time to depart to the airport, my driver was there about 10 minutes earlier than expected and the ride back was super quick. I made it back the airport with plenty of time to spare! Not sure if things went so well because my shuttle was booked through my vacation package, but I would definitely use Amstar again just based off of the experience that I had with them from this trip. read more

Someone totally screwed the pooch. But, to be in Mexico and have communication go completely right is also expected to have flaws. Our pick up from the airport was good, a small hiccup, not catastrophic. We passed the typical taxi line, skipped the guys that tried to sell us an adventure package and found someone that knew where "Epic Transportation" was. We were told that "Epic" who our reservation was prepaid with is no longer servicing Southwest Airlines, we needed to find Amstar in blue Hawaiian shirts. A small panic set in and soon we found our name on a clipboard while waiting under a tent baking in the Mexican sun under a completely different company. Phew. We loaded up in the van, our nerves lessened and our Mexico vacation was under way. We arrived at our resort Pueblo Bonito Sunset with instructions to find an Amstar representative again in a Hawaiian blue shirt between 10a and 11a to book our airport pick up. The next day, I found this representative sitting in the lobby. We introduced ourselves, confirmation was completed on the Amstar representative's smart phone through some type of Xcel Google Document. "I found your name. All set! You are checked in! Enjoy your vacation!" I replied with a quick "Gracias" and I was on my way to the pool and piña coladas. Six days later, trouble set in. As we waited for our pick up, as scheduled, back to the airport, they were late. The concierge said, "Don't worry, they will be here, give them five Mexican minutes." We waited. 30 minutes passed. That ill feeling set in and we called Amstar. No answer. Three calls, still no answer. Then someone finally picked up. Options were delivered from Amstar's Dispatcher as our pick up was NOT confirmed after all. "We have a shuttle 15 minutes away at another resort, or you can take a cab and Amstar will reimburse you." I took the Amstar responsible route as I didn't want to chase down the reimbursement later. We waited for the other shuttle. It arrived, we were only one hour later than originally scheduled. We made our flight just in time. All turned out after all. This experience alone was enough to not use their services in the future. We certainly have options. I never heard back from anyone at Amstar. Hopefully someone reads this and contacts me. This might have been an isolated incident. I hope we were just unlucky. I sure would like a follow up so this does not happen to someone else. Tip: Amstar Transportation or Epic Transportation? I am still not sure who they are? Be careful and confirm who and where you are going. Write down phone numbers and names just to be safe. read more

My family and I traveled to Cancun for family wedding, and so there were several people all traveling separately. That is all of our groups arrived and departed on separate flights on different days and times. Of the six groups that were closest to us in the wedding party, only 2 groups managed to actually complete their round trip transport with Amstar because Amstar never showed up at the right time for their departure and then refused to refund them or give them credit. The Amstar team do not do well with details, nor listening to their customers. In the case of my immediate family group, we requested a car seat for our 2 yr old daughter. When we arrived at the airport in Cancun, there was no car seat and they said that it was not explicitly listed on the voucher so they were not required to provide one. Oh, and you cannot pay the extra fee or arrange for a car seat with their agent at the airport. Ok, note taken. We had to arrange for a car seat on the return trip via their agents that have a desk at the hotel. Only, they only work at that desk a few hours in the morning and it is not necessarily the same hours, kind of when they feel like. So I did not catch them at the hotel. Alright, so call them. I had to call 3 times because the first two times the phone representative could not do a sale and had to transfer me to someone else and the call dropped for some reason. Finally on the 3rd call, I was able to get through to someone that could help and I was able to complete the car seat booking and pay. During one of these calls, however, they asked about one of the other 6 groups that were there with us and whether they needed to add anything for the same departure time. I told them, that I did not believe so, but that that group was not leaving with us, that they were actually departing on a different day. I recommended that they call to confirm with that group. Then the day before our departure they called to confirm our departure details. That's good, but they asked about two other families that they had down in their reservation system as traveling with us. I explained that those groups were NOT departing with us, but on different dates. The person thanked me and said she would reach out to them. None of them ever heard from Amstar. On the morning of our departure a large 12 seater van showed up for my wife, my daughter, and I. There was a car seat, so that worked. Then the driver asked us where the other two families were. I said, that they were not traveling with us, and had commented this with the agent the previous day. The driver marked them as "no shows" even though their reservations for different days and times. I sent messages to the rest of group for them to call Amstar to sort this out. But according to Amstar's policy they were "no shows" and had no rights to reschedule so 4 of the 6 families had to book taxis through the hotel and Amstar kept the money. And to finish things off, when I tried to respond to their customer survey the site crashed. So, please not use Amstar unless you have a lot of time, a lot patience, and are okay with the chances being quite high that you will end up having to book a taxi after all of it. read more

This company works with excursion companies that do not care. Then when you do the right thing to get it addressed nothing is done. Long story short. We had an issue on an excursion. When we finished the excursion me and my sister went to address it with customer service. They accused us of damaging an ATV but it was already damaged before we got on them, multiple ATVs had the exact same damage. We asked to see a photo before we rode them and they kept declining to provide one saying they did not have to and we had to pay $50. I advised him we knew about rights and we have a right to see a picture. My husband and brother walked up and of course they were profiled as we were still addressing the issue with the manager. They immediately started speaking in Spanish about my husband and brother and how they looked like thugs, they were profiled cause of their race. At that point they started to threaten us and said we had to either pay or they will call the cops to have us arrested and sent to jail for 48 hours and he would also file a lawsuit against us. I kept telling him the entire time I had no issue paying if we caused the damage but I wanted to see a picture without damage before we got on it. He still refused and had us surrounded by multiple MALE employees. We then felt in fear of our safety and had grave concern cause they were lying while trying to calling the cops saying we were trying to flee and refused to pay WHEN THAT WAS NEVER THE CASE. We never moved spots from when we started talking to them other than to follow them to the computer.... But Because of them profiling my husband and brother we paid the $50 and immediately caught the next shuttle back to our resort. I filed a formal complaint with the booking company and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WAS DONE!!! This company only cares about your money and doesn't care about your safety!!! NEVER BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY!!!! Just came from my trip in Aruba..the return trip to airport was not good, the driver did not show up, the concierge agent did try to get a hold of him and apparently the driver was at the wrong hotel and that he was coming in 5 mins , that turned out to be a NO SHOW, had to be rushed to the airport via regular taxi after paying PRIVATE SERVICE..hate to give bad reviews but this experience had me speechless, and is not a xgeap service pretty expensive by the way, Hopefully noone else goes thru this very stressful to think I was going to miss my flight. read more

The first time they picked us up from the airport was great. The service was good when it was time to go home. The checkout process at her hotel was running behind, so Amstar decided to leave my entire family and we had to pay money just to get a taxi back to the airport after we already paid Amstar, the man was very rude to us when we asked him if he could just wait five minutes for us. By the time I went in to try to check out he left us I went into try to talk to the Amstar representative in our hotel, and she told us they will not be coming back for us. My husband and I recently went to Cancun for New Years. We arranged transportation through Amstar both ways as well as an off the resort dinner one evening. They were super helpful and great communicators by letting us know along the way what to expect. Their office at the resort was staffed with friendly customer service reps as well as drivers. The shuttles used were very clean. I would recommend them to other guests for sure! read more

Absolutely do not recommend Am Star. We usually use Lomas and this was our first time using Am Star in a while. My husband and I are both young but love to travel - we know how it works. The AmStar reps at El Dorado Seaside were terrible. They continuously texted, called, and emailed. I made it very clear we didn't want any excursions and wanted to enjoy our stay. They continued to harass me. Our hotel rep said we can schedule transportation home the day before and when I went to do so I was harassed by Elvira and talked down to by not coming earlier. She even said we may not be able to get a transfer home. As soon as I mentioned leaving a bad review, she magically changed her turn and a shuttle was available.
