I have been using Dr. Gary Nelson long before he incorporated as a group with Dr. Shelly Sheppard. His tradition of quality eye care has only gotten better with the expansion of the practice. The practice uses state of the art diagnostic tools including retinal photography. The office staff and optical assistants are knowledgeable about all aspects of insurance and coordination of benefits. They are experts in fitting and adjusting glasses. The selection of frames and lenses is great and includes "something for everybody." As a former contact lens wearer I can attest to the doctor's knowledge of and availability of a wide range of lens types. Gary Nelson and his team are AMAZING!!! They are ALL (I can't single any one person out...) very kind, friendly, and eager to help! Through their actions, they let you know that you, as an individual, are very important. Helped with insurance, and even advised that they would make a call to the provider to check on whether or not they would be able to provide a nose piece for a pair of sunglasses that I purchased at Alameda Optometric in 2010; I did not ask them to do this, they simply took it upon themselves to say they would do this. I am super picky about my sunglasses. Maybe ridiculously so. AOG staff were incredibly patient. I went in 3 different times to try on every pair of Maui Jims they had at least once (and they have A LOT). The third time, they sat with me and opened every new, unlabeled box they had so that I FINALLY found the perfect pair... almost. I was hesitant because they are very expensive and I wanted to see the frame in a different color, so they ordered it for display so that I could try them on. They really were perfect, so AOG ordered them in my prescription and I had them in a week. I love them. Everything is crisp and there is no glare, without going dim. MJs are amazing. I knew I'd get gold treatment at AOG, because they helped me find my last pair of perfect sunglasses a few years ago, literally after a 3 month search. They are helpful, friendly, and have a great selection of glasses. Highly recommended. read more

I had a 10 o'clock appointment and hadn't even seen the Dr at 11:30! The receptionist explained that he likes to get to know his patients not just do quick exams so that is why I had to wait so long! Come On! I didn't come in for a social experience to make friends with him! Just examine my eyes all ready! Never again. Double thumbs down! As a patient with a high prescription, I know the routine. I've been wearing glasses since I was a kid and to be honest I always enjoyed getting my eyes checked. I expected it to be similar to my previous exams, increase my glasses prescription, renew my contact lens prescription and explain my vision insurance (VSP). Dr. Sheppard and her staff did all these things, but then the Dr. dilated my eyes and took photos and ultrasound photos and explained in detail what she was seeing. She told me what I should look out for (excuse the pun) as my eyes age. With regard to my contacts, she gave me trials of dailies so that I can compare them to my current 2 week contact brand. And I gotta say... they're pretty awesome. I haven't purchased anything from them yet but I just had to review them. Definitely try them for yourself, their great service, knowledgeable and personable Dr. and friendly staff will make you glad you did. read more

Office staff was incredibly helpful getting me in for an exam very quickly for an acute problem and getting my daughter in for an exam the next day when I explained she had lost her glasses and was due for an exam. The care is wonderful from start to finish! They even gave us special glasses for viewing the solar eclipse. read more

My family and I all went there and really enjoyed our visit,the office is very clean and comfortable and doesn't have that medicine smell Drs offices usually have. The staff is all very nice and knowledgeable and my 3 kids thought it was actually fun to get their eyes checked. One of my daughters mentioned she would like to work there when she got older.
