STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY!…read more I made a terrible and horrible mistake of employing the services of a handyman named Carlos who told me he was the owner of Faith-Based Handyman Services, to install some vanity tops, lights, etc. I chose the company because of the ratings and the name Faith-Based. I would rate it less than one star if I could. I have given it a lot of thought before rating Mr. Carlos as the representative of Faith-Based Handyman Services. I have always looked for goodness in a person and I do my best to be fair with everyone. My conscience would not allow me to keep silent and not share my experience with prospective customers regarding Mr. Carlos of Faith-Based Handyman Services. Mr. Carlos is an incompetent, arrogant handyman with a nasty attitude and has a serious integrity issue. He is the dumbest handyman I have ever dealt with--the dumbest of the dumb. He lacks very basic plumbing and handyman knowledge and has caused significant water damage to my home due to his incompetence. He attempted to fix three water leaks he caused to my home four times and has admitted to me that he did not know what else to do to fix the leaks. He lacks candor. He damaged the ring that connected the piping together and the knob in my shower stalls and attempted to conceal it until I confronted him, which he admitted it was caused by his wrench. His level of incompetence is absolutely stunning. He has no equal. You cannot and will not find a dumber handyman. The lighting system does not work properly, which is similar to what he did with the connection of the water lines, which are still leaking. He has left a bucket underneath the faucet, which has been collecting water ever since. I have contacted him on various occasions to inform him of the substandard job he had done and each time he had an excuse for not coming. He either said he was in class; his truck overheated; he had a scheduling conflict and finally he stopped responding to my texts and emails while he kept my money. I kept plenty of photographic and written evidence of the damages he has caused to my home for appropriate action. I would not hire him under any circumstance. Mr. Carlos is a sorry example of a handyman and is a bad example to the honest, knowledgeable and hard working handymen that perform quality work for their customers. Do not waste your money and your time. If you care about honesty, quality work and your property DO NOT HIRE him under any circumstance--STAY AWAY.

I cannot say enough good things about Dan and On Top Home…read more Improvement. To begin with, he saved me $11,000. I had a very bad situation where a different roofing contractor (who I will not name) did a very unprofessional job of installing a new roof and gutters for us. There were numerous problems where they used inferior materials not according to the insurance estimate, did not follow county guidelines and added unncessary costs. I hired Dan as an independent inspector and he was able to point out to them all the things they were trying to get away with. He coached me all along the way in my dealings with this other company and gave me great advice. Roofing is one business where the average homeowner is not going to know all the details that many companies try to get away with. If you are in Maryland, and in need of a new roof, and haven't yet decided on a company, I HIGHLY recommend Dan and On Top for their honesty and attention to detail. If you already have a roofing company, I would also recommend using him as an independent inspector to ensure you are getting an honest deal. Hiring Dan and On Top was one of the best homeowner consumer decisions I've ever made in my nearly 40 years of living in Maryland.

I am finally writing the review that is decades overdue. If you are looking for a contractor who…read morecombines old-school integrity with master-level craftsmanship, look no further than Dan Cox at On Top Home Improvement. Dan's work literally stands the test of time. He installed a new roof and three skylights at my home 30 years ago. To this day, I have had no leaks and the roof is still going strong. For my daughter: Dan replaced a massive skylight and solved a chronic leak that other contractors couldn't fix. Beyond the roofing work, his team handled the interior drywall and ceiling paint flawlessly, leaving the room looking new. For my son: Other roofers insisted my son needed a full replacement for an old copper roof. Dan's repair expertise completely stopped the leak without the need for a costly replacement, saving my son about $10K. Dan Cox won't sell you a roof you don't need, but the one he does install might just last you a lifetime.

And also, next door is looking great from what I've seen of the before and ongoing work. Give them a call! I sure will.

I have minor complaints, but at the end of the day he handled a large project for us in a timely…read moremanner. He and his crew were kind and accommodating. His team handled (1) laying radiant heat coils, (2) applying self-leveling compound both to solve leveling issues and to secure the radiant heat, (3) floating Rigid Core Vinyl Planks, (4) adding new baseboards, (5) running new circuits for each heated area, and (6) drywall repair. I'm grateful for their renovation efforts. Before I go into minor quibbles, I'll reiterate that the job was done and I'm happy with it. I can't wait to use his team for future projects once the funds are replenished. This review is only to inform his great crew on ways to improve minor details. They range from "Aesthetic" to "Technical" critiques. (1) Layout (Aesthetic). The lengths of starting planks were staggered in a clear 2-step pattern. It reduces the "natural" look of things; See the attached image to (2) Polish (Aesthetic). Shims for baseboards weren't cleaned off with utility knives or anything so there's lots of little spots with wood poking out from behind the baseboard. I know these 70 year old walls were probably a challenge to baseboard, so it's all good. There were also several spots on the walls and doors that got damaged during the installation. It's no biggy though, since we just moved in and the basement was very "DIY" from the previous owner and poorly done anyway. (3) Patterns (Aesthetic). Normally when boards are laid out from several boxes, you mix and match from the boxes so you get more variety of patterns. In the implementation in my home, there are several areas where identical boards are right next to one another so it looks less "natural" (4) "Playing it Safe" (Technical). All technical guidelines of the radiant heating system we used warned of testing the current and functionality before laying down compound over it since there's no turning back once that's been done. This test wasn't done - it ended up fine, and everything worked, but had any of the product been found to be faulty the final day of installation when they plugged it all in, there'd be some major problems. Section 2.4 of the following manual: https://hw.menardc.com/main/items/media/EASYH001/Install_Instruct/DFTInstructions.pdf I should note that maybe there was a miscommunication and these tests were actually done, but from conversations I think they weren't. (5) Plank Minimum Widths (Technical). Typically planks have minimum widths they are permitted to be for stability. To plan for these minimums, you often place planks from the center of the room in both directions to find out where the widths are too short and you compensate by shifting things left or right. There are locations in the installation where these minimums were exceeded, but they were covered by the baseboards so it's probably fine. (5) Leveling Compound (Aesthetic). There ended up being some spots where it's off-level enough that I get some significant flex to the boards as I walk over them. It makes me a bit nervous that they'll pop in years to come, but it should be fine. I should note that there ended up being way more leveling compound required than initially expected, so I understand that there are some variations just because how much needed to be laid. But enough of the negatives, let's chat about what went right: (1) During this difficult time, they were able to come out and get me ready to work from home in less than a week. (2) They were appreciative of the situation, especially with my wife's hospital profession, and took necessary precautions to insulate their work area from the rest of the house. (3) They were flexible to meet some requests of mine during the work, such as repairing drywall, installing thresholds, and making sure the planks were oriented in a certain direction. (4) They were willing to work even though the area was littered with furniture and boxes from our recent move in. They handled all of my grandmother's furniture with care, and made sure it was all safe as they worked. (5) They were friendly, kind, and responsive at all times. Victor's the classic contractor / handyman who's seen it all. (6) They rolled with the punches as the unexpected arose: baseboards, self-leveling compound, and square footage all didn't match original expectations and they were able to quickly pivot and make sure everything was done on time. (7) They alerted me of problems right when they happened. My sump pump failed and they were the first to let me know! We managed to resolve the problem before any damage was done. In other words, they were vigilant and attentive to my home as they worked. (8) Their invoices were reasonable, and their financing was generous.

We gave Faustino the product number and he decided to use a different product. The one we choose was a light stain and he used a solid black. What we wanted was a beautiful wood stain deck and what we got was an ugly black deck. He did not sand it therefor ruining the wood that we already had down. They used spray paint which also ruined the siding of my house, my gutters and there is paint all over the concrete. One of the worst experiences I have ever encountered. Beware of this company

Our realtor, Jeremy Rosenthal (also wonderful) recommended I work with Ray Tabarzadi, the owner of Rio Abbey. Ray's business has been around in Kentlands forever; it's a small mom & pop that he runs with his wife. Both of them are lovely, kind, helpful, and so nice! You cannot imagine that working on a renovation - which is stressful - could be so easy. Ray helped me with selections for the kitchen, bathrooms, and carpet. And he made it turn-key for me. Now, we are renovating 2 bathrooms in our home and also redoing the carpet. I got 4 estimates but I knew I was going to use Ray. Not only is his pricing very fair and reasonable, the best part is working with someone with integrity and who I trust will get the job done well and on time. I simply cannot say enough about them. Shannon, Mark, and the team did an excellent job remodeling our kitchen and bathrooms…read more I saw kitchen and bath depot mentioned on Reddit of all places and the moment I stepped in to the showroom, Shannon greeted us and answered all of my questions and was super friendly. They worked with us on the design so everything was exactly what we wanted and the project manager Mark was always available to answer questions when the guys were working on the house. Kitchen & Bath Depot just finished a major renovation of our kitchen (new cabinets, countertops,…read morebacksplash, ventilation and appliances). We can't be more thrilled. We had used KBD before on a simpler renovation (new master bath shower) and we were delighted with their work, so didn't hesitate to engage them for this far more elaborate project. Why are these guys such great remodelers? Let me list just a few of the reasons. * Completeness: Except for appliances, KBD displays and sources everything that is required. You aren't sent around to countless vendors to look at their wares and then be the middleman in negotiating appropriateness, availability, prices, etc. * Design assistance: You are offered as much or as little as you need. But be forewarned, Rich and Olga are likely to be much more familiar with design issues than you - so that when they make their suggestions, you will hit yourself on the side of the head and wonder why you didn't think of these issues or ideas yourself. * Craftsmanship: With remodeling, everything doesn't always exactly fit together. Walls are not perfectly plumb, corners not perfectly square, ceiling heights may be wavy and floors are not perfectly flat. Thus, craftsmanship is required to neatly mount cabinets and appliances to that they look seamless. KBD installers (who are direct employees, not subcontractors) all made the extra effort to ensure that everything (even stuff that we would never would have noticed) was done right and looked perfect. Thanks, Tony, Walter, Mark, Raphael and Steve. * Predictability: You are told what work and workers are coming next; everyone arrives on time; and other than for weekends (and two snow days) work is done every day. Our full kitchen remodel was completed in just four weeks - slightly faster than initially estimated. * Neatness: Drop clothes and dust shields were laid/affixed every day. And no day ended without a through clean-up of the job site. * Price: As noted by other commenters, KBD's prices, while not discount rates, are very fair for the extent and quality of work being done - and below some quotes that we received from other remodeling firms. Further, you are not nickel-and-dimed for extra costs from minor changes or challenges. * Peace of mind: Remodeling can be stressful. You worry that things will not be done right, that you are paying too much, or the final product will just not look good. Hire KBD and you can put those worries aside. The job will be done better than you will have imagined, it will look beautiful, and you will be happy to have made the decision to contract with KBD.
