I really love the food, some servers are better than others but that's anywhereyou go. The only problem I have with this restaurant is that the music is too loud and I don't care for the type of music. Most of the time it's hip hop or rap and a lot of the times the artist is dropping f-bombs or the n-word or whatever I would prefer the music to be lower and just instrumental. Any type of music, but just instrumental. Sat at the bar and ordered two drinks. Paid for the drinks at the bar and were handed our change and receipt by the hostess. Decided it was too crowded to eat comfortably and canceled the order of food we placed and went out to our car. The bartender (who had to be reminded by another bartender to actually ring in and serve our drinks to begin with) who served us chased our car into the parking lot, running after us. When we pulled over, she accused us of leaving an unpaid bill. I kindly informed her we cancelled our food order and paid for our drinks in cash with a 25% tip on the tab. Won't be back. I paid my first visit to Akitaca Crab in Modesto today with a group for a birthday celebration, this was the worst experience I've ever had in my entire 71 years. The customer service was extremely poor. Our server, (Bianco Lo) was clearly overworked due to understaffing, and the manager's behavior was even worse. The food itself was bland, which I was willing to overlook, but the real issue came when the bill arrived. I ordered 1/2 lb. of crab and 1/2 lb. of shrimp. The bill incorrectly showed that I ordered 1 lb. of shrimp and included hush puppies I never ordered. When I questioned it, the server disputed what I had ordered and then went to get the manager because she didn't know how to correct it. The manager came over and claimed he "heard" me order 1 lb. of shrimp. I told him that was not true because I never ordered that amount. He then said he needed to take eight shrimp back since I had been served a pound. I asked how he knew it was a pound, and he said they weigh it. I removed eight prawns from my bag and placed them on a used plate, but I have no idea what he did with them afterward. When he returned with the adjusted receipt, it was still wrong--the hush puppies were still on the ticket. He finally corrected it and brought a new one, but at no point did he apologize or acknowledge the inconvenience. Instead, he implied I was lying and treated me with complete disrespect. I have never had a manager ask for food back in order to adjust a bill. I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone. A manager should never verbally attack a customer, especially when the restaurant is at fault. No apology, no accountability--just taking my money. read more

Customer service at this place sucks. There's only 2 good servers who actually are attentive and make the experience worth while. The other servers and even the bartender are rude, they leave you waiting 30 minutes just to refill your drinks, and even at the end they're no where to be found. We have to pay at the register. One day we came and once the waitress brought our food, she brought us our check bcos she said she was leaving. Threw us off the entire meal bcos we haven't even started eating or even touched the food yet. The music is always so loud you can't even think and when you suggest to turn it down they refuse or they ignore you. Servers talk shit about you to other tables or customers at the bar and think we don't notice. I had ordered the Akitaca special and it came with 1lbs of snow crab legs, 1lbs of shrimp head off, and 1lbs of craw fish. For the sauce, I had gotten the house special sauce and it was delicious but a little salty, that's why it's important to use the lemons that they give you for the sauce as well. I had also gotten 2 portions of white rice and the spicy garlic noodles which were absolutely delicious as well but do keep in mind, it was a tad bit spicy. The seafood was really fresh as well and this spot is way better than bag o crab in terms of everything, from the seafood, to the garlic noodles, and the sauce as well. The service was not bad as well, as I did get the order togo and ate it at home. The ambiance was also not bad, while waiting to pick up my order, there were quite a bit of people in the restaurant and there was also music being played on the speakers so it wasn't quiet at all. read more

We really wanted to like this place, but sadly, the customer service has been anything but great. I have been coming here many times with my work, my family, and even just for a casual night out. The food is good, but it can't compensate for how terrible the service is. Every single time that we are here, there's always something going wrong. The customer service is terrible. They will mess up and blame it on the back of the house and not take responsibility as a whole team and one restaurant. I am confused why it's always "they mess up." "The back messed up. Look I put the order in." Instead of "sorry. Our team messed up. Let me try and fix it for you." Are you one restaurant or individual here? I have done my fair share as a waitress years ago, have been to many restaurants, this place gets a zero on customer service. It's not that difficult or hard to grasp on how to be a decent person. If this was your family, friends is this how you would treat them or want them to be treated when they are going out? Probably not. I am appalled at the lack of decency here. The waitress picks and choose who they want to be nice to, which is unfortunate and feels like age, group, or racial discrimination. I wouldn't bring up the race card but clearly they point fingers, talk in Spanish with tables around us thinking we wouldn't understand. Some examples of the terrible experience we got here- completely our fault for even trying to give grace and second, third even fourth chances of redemption. We came on a busy holiday, which is understandable. Waiting is long; we waited 2 hours. It's totally not the restaurant's fault. We waited another 1.5 hours for our food to come, yet a few tables who were seated after got their food first with the same order as us (they were a much bigger party too. ) Whatever, we just wanted to eat since we had already waited for so long. As we brought it up, they denied and denied that it was their fault. Not a simple sorry. The waitress proceeded to point fingers and talk about us at her other Hispanic tables. Even though my fiancé and his family are Hispanic, we can totally understand everything they said. Laughing and pointing at us. We asked to speak to the store manager, but he came over drunk off his ass. Once again, blaming everything else but taking accountability for the rude Mexican bitch who took our order and then went and talked shit to another table, thinking we didn't have a clue what she said. Nasty behavior. We came once again, and at this point, it's our fault for even coming back. I won't be making that mistake again. Busy night. Busy graduation day. We waited 2 hours. Which was fine. We were willing to wait to celebrate our graduate. As we sat, the waitress already had an attitude. We saw it was busy, and they were closed at 9:30 p.m. We sat by 10 p.m. with a few other tables just seated. Two parties came later than us and were seated first, even though they don't take phone reservations of any sort. Ok, we noticed. Whatever. We were seated. We wanted to order, eat, and get out of there so they can get our table out to close. So we mentioned to our waitress, "Hey, btw, we are ready to order." She has the nastiest attitude about it. Just trying to make her job easier, as many times we have been here, they have rushed us to order and said, Are you ready yet? We ordered. My father-in-law mentioned he wanted a bottle and not a tap. She bought him a tap beer; he told her instantly he asked for a bottle and hasn't even taken a sip yet, so she can take it back. She argued and proceeded to mention she heard tap and said she had to find someone else to give it to, and she rolled her eyes in front of our whole family. Even though we have seen them give out shots and drinks all the time.... What kind of service is that? If someone mentions that they want a bottle, just go get them one. Simple. There is no need for the attitude and remarks. To think this place hires girls with these nasty attitudes... The owner looks and seems like a nice guy. But he needs to check on these waitresses of his. They are mean girls and always have the nastiest attitude. Clearly, she was Hispanic because she proceeded to go to another table, laugh, mock us, point fingers, and talk in Spanish, thinking we wouldn't understand, yet my whole family was Hispanic. Second time this happened here. To treat someone like that, let alone your own race, is pathetic. I wouldn't even bring up the race card if it wasn't for them pointing fingers and talking in "their language," thinking we wouldn't understand. It's unfortunate that some people lack common sense and have behaviors that are nonetheless inhuman. read more

For $65 we tried the akitaca special - hubby and I chose crab, shrimp and clams 1lb each and this comes with 2 sweetcorns, & potatoes. The portions were good for more than 2 people. Im not into cajun sauce so we picked garlic butter + lemon pepper and mild spicy. It tasted so good:), the only thing we were looking for was garlic noodles, guy said they're still working on it so we got rice. Our kid's tenders and fries were good too and big portions. So, no won't come back when I can't have a conversation with my own party. We finally after 45 min got our food ordered and then waited almost 50 min to get food. 10 of us got our dinners. 2 sat and waited . The waiter asked 3 times what they ordered. Would leave and come back again and ask. One guy got his food and my husband didn't and the waiter had to ask a fourth time what he ordered. He ordered a fried shrimp basket, not hard to make with fries. People came and left from eating after we got there and left before us. My husband got his dinner when we were all done eating. The table is sticky and so is the floor. The food was really good. Will not come back due to the service. Getting together with friends when you can't have a conversation is not fun. Music was way too loud and we were told it couldn't be adjusted and we just needed to party more!!! Really, just not customer oriented at all.
