There's a board game shelf with free to play games and lots of seating. It was pretty empty when i came because it was so early in the day, but as a result i got a button with my order-- you can collect all 7 by ordering early at certain times on each day of the week to join their vip program which gives you discounts and benefits. I ordered a peppermint jasmine tea and it was very delicious, refreshing, and minty! I also really liked that the cup is reusable and the price felt very affordable compared to most bbt shops! I ordered Akihi on Uber eats and ordered crispy chicken, the Szechuan flavor and the Thai tea with coconut milk, and I added Boba. The chicken was absolutely phenomenal, the flavor was fantastic and the spice was just right . The Thai tea could have been a little stronger and it was lightly sweet. I added 70% sugar. I did not go in person so I don't know how the service is or the ambience but I have seen videos and it looks beautiful inside and I could only imagine how fantastic the service is. read more

Although the aesthetics are aestheticking, I feel like this spot is overpriced and a little gimmicky. They didn't have many options available when I went, but the bubble tea itself is very good. The wait was a little long, considering the place was empty and there were no other customers on a Monday morning. I first discovered this bubble tea shop in Metuchen and had a delightful experience. Recently, my friend informed me of another shop with the same name. He highly recommended this place but confessed he wasn't sure if it was the same place. We decided to try their classic original bubble milk tea to test the waters. When I inquired about the type of tea they use, the cashier said they use Ceylon Black Tea with non-dairy creamer and Lactaid Milk. I was thrilled to find it met my expectations. Next time, my husband and I will try some of their more innovative drinks, like the Big Bomb. They offer snacks at very reasonable prices, so I plan to come hungry and sample some of their bites. I got the jasmine milk tea and my son got the classic black milk tea. We each got boba in them and the boba was soft and chewy. The brown sugar flavor was so rich, and it was pretty cool watching them torch the top of the drink! Akihi also offers some savory items, and I tried the Taiwanese sausage and takoyaki. The Taiwanese sausage was decent and a bit spicy (I went with mild spice), though it didn't stand out to me much and I expected a little more based on the picture. The takoyaki was solid, though I feel like there was an excess of bonito flakes. The octopus inside was actually the perfect texture, though it is a very rich treat. In terms of ordering, you order at a screen towards the front of the shop, which I found very convenient. Everything came out pretty quickly, and the staff were very nice when I picked up my order. The interior of this place had such a relaxing vibe, and it was nicely lit with very cool stylistic choices. I even admired how the drinks looked aesthetically pleasing, and the lid on mine had a cool geometric shape. Plus, Akihi has a cool VIP program that involves collecting badges each day of the week at specific times to earn a discount card. I hope East Brunswick starts building up the trendy places that's been lacking for so long. The interior has a calming , zen-like vibe. There are several kiosks to self-order. There are your standard boba drinks but there are also a few variations. You can customize sugar and ice levels. The size levels are all large. I like that they tell you the type of dairy used in each drink on the kiosk, whether it's non dairy creamer, lactose milk or whole milk. You can also substitute (for a fee) with alternative mills such as oatmilk and almond milk. We got the rose boba milk tea and mango slush. Both were good. read more

No greeting upon arrival - you just order at one of the kiosks and they text you when your order is ready and you can pick it up at the counter. Easy and fast! It's difficult for us to buy drinks at bubble tea shops that are both caffeine and dairy free, but Akihi delivers with several options. We opted for the Mango Slushie with Strawberry Popping Boba and it was delicious! There is only one size and it is pretty large. The cups are very high quality. Food is great but service is horrible. I made an online order for egg waffles for my young kids and the email confirmation said it would take 10 - 30 mins. I arrived at the restaurant around 10 minutes after order was confirmed, had my kids stay in the car with my wife thinking it would be quick. I ordered a bubble once I arrived. My bubble tea was done very quickly and I asked the workers if my waffles were done, show them the order, and they told me it should be quick. Another 10 minutes pass and I ask another worker if my order was done, they go yes and hand me my egg waffles that had been sitting at the counter for a while and it was very cold. I asked them to make another, the worker goes, "okay" and walks away. I wait another 5-10 minutes and I'm actually very annoyed at this time. I asked another worker who is in charge and it happens to be the previous worker who said okay and walked away. She goes they're doing it right now. I'm appalled at how a customer has to wait so long to be even asked what are you waiting for. I stood at the counter for at least 30 minutes waiting for my order. These teenagers are working hard to keep up with demand. The manager in charge should try to learn customer service principles, did not even apologize for their own mix up. read more

I happened to be in the area on their grand opening day of this new East Brunswick location. Some may be familiar with the Metuchen location. I'm excited to see more bubble tea locations in the EB area. Opening day was 4/5/24, and things were running surprisingly smooth considering it was the day of the freak earthquake and a busy Friday night. Ordering is on a touch screen board. The selections are excellent, offering different levels of sweetness and a variety of milks, such as almond, coconut and oat. Besides milk teas, snacks are available. Customer service at drink/food pickup was great. This location is a lot more convenient than going up to Metuchen or Edison! The items met my expectations. They also have a great lid design with a cover over the straw hole. No messy punching through plastic cellophane. Live in the moment and drink bubble tea! read more
