Mostly extended weekends when everyone is back in town to see family and friends. During the day, week, and a lot of weekends, it's just your typical less populated dive. They only accept cash, so you have to be prepared for that, but the drinks are ridiculously cheap and they don't skimp on the pour to make up for it. Cocktails... not really their specialty. This place is used to beer drinking regulars and people who want their liqueur straight up. They'll make you one, just don't have high expectations because this is not that kind of bar. There is a pool table and bar food. No full kitchen so the menu isn't overly impressive, but booze is more of their specialty. The staff is older and can be kind of crotchety, but that's usually if it's one of the crazy nights that all these young kids randomly show up. They weren't that kind of bar, I don't think the staff knows why these kids keep coming back, and they are slowly learning to embrace it. If you're a laid back person, looking for a cheap drink and a random conversation with a stranger at the bar, this is your kind of place. I've met some really off the wall folks and the regulars can keep you entertained for hours if you strike up a conversation with one... don't expect half of their tales to be true, but enjoy the ride.

Disappointing BBQ Experience We drove in from a few towns…read moreover, excited to try this spot because they're open late (until 11pm) and we were craving some solid BBQ. Unfortunately, it was a pretty disappointing visit overall. We ordered the DQ Pulled Pork and Brisket, and both came out cold with no flavor. The corn bread was okay, and the collard greens were surprisingly spicy -- not bad, just unexpected. We originally wanted the trifecta but they had already run out of ribs. So we went for two orders of burnt ends, expecting that rich, crispy texture. Instead, they were soft, smushy, and cold -- more like baby food than BBQ. Not good at all. The only standout dish was the corn cream cheese side -- warm, flavorful, and probably the best part of the meal. Also worth mentioning: the bartender was great -- super cool and clearly passionate. The place itself has a chill, loungey vibe, but it doesn't really feel like a true BBQ joint. Final thoughts: Burnt ends: Cold, soft, no bark -- total miss Pulled pork & brisket: Cold, bland Collard greens: Spicy, but decent Corn cream cheese: Delicious Vibe: Cool, but not very BBQ-ish Service: Bartender was the highlight Wish we could've had the food to match the energy. Hopefully they can tighten things up, especially on the basics.

When the meetings finally ended, we were starving and in desperate need of real food. Surprisingly (and slightly concerning), this was one of the only restaurants around. The area itself is pretty quiet, mostly hotels and a few food spots, so when you find a good one, you commit. From the moment we walked in, the host greeted us warmly, which was already a great start. Since this is a teppanyaki spot, we were seated at a shared table they were working to fill, standard hibachi rules apply. While waiting, we ordered drinks because... obviously. I went with the lychee martini (pronounced Lie-chee, not Lee-chee, gotta respect the fruit LOL), and my colleague ordered the sweet plum. Both were delicious, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. Next came the must-haves: edamame and gyoza. No notes. Just solid, comforting appetizers that did their job while we waited for the main event. With our meals, we were served the consommé soup and the salad with ginger dressing, and let me just say, that ginger dressing deserves its own fan club. So good. Once the table filled up, the show began. Flames, flair, knife skills, and all the hibachi magic you hope for. The chef was super entertaining and clearly knew how to keep the energy up. The staff overall was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience feel fun and welcoming. Bonus points for the fact that I spoke the language, which led to a mini conversation about why I was randomly in the middle of Michigan, always a fun topic. Overall, it was a great experience from start to finish. Good food, great service, and a much-needed post-meeting morale boost. If I ever find myself back in that part of Michigan, I'd absolutely come back, hopefully with fewer meetings next time.
