I'll admit it - I used to be a 'I only fly Virgin Atlantic' snob. Well HELLO Air France, you are now my new favourite!
I flew to Dubai from London Heathrow (via France) and it all went very smoothly. The plane to France was small and basic (and very 70s - there are still little ashtrays in the arm-rests) but it only lasts around an hour, and they serve you tea, coffee, hot chocolate and croissants. After arriving in France it was only an hour to wait before my connecting flight to Dubai.
The flight to Dubai was amazing - REAL CHAMPAGNE! Camembert! Leg room! Friendly staff!
Ok, so the plane looks way less modern than BA or Virgin planes (again with the 1970s carpets, old fashioned uniforms for staff, and ashtrays in the arm-rests) but out of all three airlines, I would say that Air France has the most legroom, and really friendly, helpful staff.
The food was pretty good (they even give you a little menu!) and so was the wine (you can have as many alcoholic drinks as you want - gratis). There was a funny moment on the flight back though, when they came round with a snack before landing, and handed me and my friend 2 tiny, homemade triangular sandwiches, made from white bread, with the crusts cut off, wrapped in cling-film.....we looked at each other and burst out laughing. I cried tears of laughter. The sandwiches were cheap and ridiculous looking.....but I still ate them.
The flight was smooth, and I like that there is a tv screen which features live video footage (I guess there is a camera attached to the front of the plane) of the plane driving down the runway, taking off, and flying through the air!
The entertainment system is great - lots of movies, tv shows, music etc to choose from (not as many as Virgin, but a lot).
Go Air France! Woooooo! read more
