One of the TOP airlines in the world, based in Abu Dhabi, Middle East. This airline, along with Qatar Airways and Emirates has given the smaller airlines a headache even the major carriers such as SQ, CX and the American carriers are not enthusiastic about their presence.
So when I had to fly to London for personal reasons, I would travel alone to try out which airline I want to fly with and this airline gets my go ahead. Primary reason is to fly the airline's Airbus A340-600 aircraft. At that time, I haven't flown on this aircraft type. It was a decision between this and Qatar Airways.
From London Heathrow, I would to fly to Abu Dhabi and changed plane to Singapore from there. On that day, I did my check in and I was notified of an aircraft changed from Airbus A340-600 to A340-500. I was quite pleased with the change because the -500 series is a pretty rare aircraft to fly on.
In-flight service was not bad except for a crew whose mind seemed to be somewhere else! A few of us had spoilt PTV system and we notified this crew but she didn't do anything so I approached another crew who immediately change our seats (the others too) - that's what I called service. After that incident, that unhelpful crew didn't appear at my aisle for the rest of the flight.
In-flight meals on my flights were pretty good and trying out the IFE system on my other flights with this airline, I wasn't disappointed at all.
The airline now offers a very prestigious Apartment and Resident class on the Airbus A380 - probably one of the best in the market and they cost an arm and a leg for it! Whether is it worth splashing those $$ for the classes, it's up to each individual, personally I won't and if I have the miles (frequent flyer program), I probably will give it a try. This airline also operates the modern Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, worth flying on it! So when you book your flights, check the aircraft types, go for the Airbus A380 if possible. read more
