The 1 year old commercial HVAC unit on our business failed during a heatwave earlier this month. We initially called the company that our building owner uses and their techs made 3 visits within a week and a half and could not figure out the problem They sent us an invoice for the visits, and recommended that we replace several expensive components so they could "continue diagnostics". We decided to get a second opinion, so based on Yelp reviews we called Air Essentials. I spoke to Anthony (the owner), explained our situation and he dispatched Andrew, his lead tech/installer first thing the next morning. In less than an hour Andrew determined that our system had several issues including being wired incorrectly. He corrected the wiring and was able to get the unit working on low so we had some immediate relief. Anthony then "went above and beyond the call of duty" and assisted in working with the manufacturer and distributor to get our failed compressor swapped out. If that wasn't enough, it was all accomplished at a very reasonable price. The folks at Air Essentials were professional, competent and provided exceptional customer service (even calling/emailing with status updates while the new unit was being shipped from Houston). I manage a retail strip building in Antioch with several 20+ year old York and Rheem brand rooftop units. I have used several HVAC companies over the years and the most important thing to me is you want to TRUST that they are being honest in their diagnosis of a problem. I believe that is what their tech Tony has demonstrated to me on the last few jobs that I called for. For example, after I called a local HVAC company in Antioch to replace the thermostat because the fan blower motor would not stop running, it didn't solve the issue. So the local Antioch HVAC contractor said you need to change the unit's Circuit Board which costs about $500. Obviously I wasn't happy to pay for the service but still have the problem unresolved. Not knowing many good companies in the Antioch area, since I have been living in Vacaville for the last 20 years, I called Air Essentials to ask if they would go to Antioch. They said they do and Tony the very honest and knowledgeable tech found the problem to be a bad wire and he fixed it without needing to replace the circuit board. These guys did an excellent job on replaced my entire HVAC system. The reason I didn't give them five stars is because the system was a little expensive; however, it was comparable with other quotes I received. They contract privately and also out of Home Depot. I highly recommend them. Anthony is the service manager/owner and has been doing HVAC for quite a number of years. I bought a Trane 3 ton condenser SEER 13, 3 ton evaporator, and 60,000 btu Trane furnace 80% eff. Nothing high end but much better than low. Cost was about $5,400 inc installation. read more

He quickly diagnosed the problem and replaced the defective condenser. It was one of those days where the temperature outside was a scorching 97 degrees. He did an excellent job cleaning the ducts, but I was equally impressed with the care he took to protect my floors and furniture. I had them install a new Heating and AC system. Their crew was wonderful to work with. They had to crawl in an attic, that was barely big enough for a person, in the middle of the summer and NEVER complained. 3 yrs later I had to have them back when the AC was not getting cold. They showed up the next day and on time. It took them 10 minute to fix the problem. When I asked what I owed him he said "It costs you nothing. So of course our A/C quits in the middle of a heat wave, after 5pm...I called three companies. Anthony called us within a half an hour. He explained they were booked up for the next week or so but he'd get someone by after work the next day to check it out. Andrew showed up on time, found a bad fuse, replaced it and cleaned the coils. We are going to need a new unit as ours is 30 years old, so we asked him for an estimate, which seems like a fair price. The worst "professional" service experience I've ever had. I won't use Air Essentials again. Unfriendly and unprofessional. I don't like letting strangers in my home, let alone someone that doesn't wear company apparel, greet me with a smile, and offer me their name and perhaps a handshake. That was just the beginning. Removed the heat vents without scoring the paint so the paint and drywall tore in 3 rooms. Worse yet, he didn't bother to mention it to me and had some "Well, blah blah, blah" as an excuse. Didn't properly seal the duct in one of the rooms, so while cleaning all the other ducts, filth poured in the the room that wasn't sealed properly. I had to point it out to them to clean up, though it was very obvious. Then I had to call them back in 2 more times because they didn't even do an okay job cleaning. For the money spent (almost $600 for a 1500 sq ft ranch) I would expect something more than a brush on the end of an electric drill used to clean the ducts. And I would expect some sort of confirmation - visual confirmation even - that the ducts were actually clean. read more

Seldom do I post reviews. The company has to be someone who provided me a service that was "Out of this World", or one that "Ripped me Off". In this case, Air Essentials is "Out Of This World" Fantastic ... My experience began about 10 years ago with Anthony (Owner) personally coming out to install a double wall gas heater (rather than send one of his techs). Anthony provided a fair price, was cordial, on time, always answering or returning my vm calls, installation seamless and left the area pick up and cleaner than when he arrived :-). He honored Warranty two years later when thermostat went on blitz and came out to replace without hesitation/delay. About a year ago the pilot lite wouldn't ignite. I was going to be a smart guy and research YouTube for answer/repair. It was a simple problem that was replacing the Thermocouple. I ordered the part, unscrewed the wires and replaced with new. Whola! Nope, It still wouldn't lite. Called Air Essentials again, explained to Anthony what I had done. We made an appointment for Andrew to come out and he said Andrew can fix anything. Within 3 minutes (seriously, less than 3 minutes) Andrew identified that the two Thermocouple wires I screwed back on ... I screwed them to the wrong terminals...LOL...so much for my YouTube skills. Well, Andrew fixed it in minutes. I felt so guilty I felt compelled to give him more work. I had just installed a mini split a/c unit in house and cottage about six months prior. So I asked him if he would perform the annual a/c preventative maintenance on both. Andrew took an outside look, and with a chuckle said, they're in perfect condition. He encouraged me to call them back this summer. June had come around and remembering my positive experience with Air Essentials Anthony/Andrew, I called to schedule the a/c preventative maintenance and spoke with Amber whose smile you could see through the phone. I requested the service and specifically asked for Andrew. Amber was accommodating and flexible in coordinating and worked with "my" schedule. In the mean time PGE showed up when I wasn't home, painting and calibrating the gas meters, they discovered a gas leak, turned off gas to main house and left a Repair Summary Notice. So called Amber right away to see if Andrew could come out for gas leak. We scheduled for that up coming Monday, Andrew would could out for both gas leak and a/c maintenance. Andrew again showed up on time, same courteous smile and temperament. He tried to located the gas leak without luck, leaving us to determine the gas leak was coming from pipe under house. Air Essentials License does not provide that they are able to perform under housework and Andrew encouraged me to contact a Contractor Plumber. As for a/c maintenance, well guess what? Andrew was ready to work, looked at the exterior units and said they both still in great shape. Rather than take my money for an annual service that wasn't needed, he said on these type of mini split a/c units, the best thing to do is keep them clean of leaves and debris away from them. Should they stop providing cold air, then that's the time to call so he can add refrigerant. It is hard to find a dependable service oriented professional who is honest, fair and delivers above board quality product without gouging/ripping you off. I am very pleased with their service. Air Essentials was referred to me by another satisfied customer. I had initially attempted to get my home warranty company to cover. That person contracted by the home warranty company grossly overstated and misstated the problem and handed me an estimate for $3350. Of course home warranty didn't cover. Air Essentials located the problem right away and I just needed one duct run replaced. Their service person even checked my air filter and the age of my unit while he was here. Two weeks before Christmas my heater stops working in my house. I found Air Essentials on Yelp and they had decent reviews so I called and made a same day appointment. When the tech (Dan) arrived within ten minutes he told me the mother board was shot and that it would cost me 1000$ to replace. He then proceeded to tell me that the unit wasn't even worth putting the money into and that I should just replace the whole system. I asked how much and he quotes me between 2900-3600$. I told him I wasn't really trying to spend that much and how horrible the timing was with Christmas around the corner. He said "welcome to home ownership". I told him I would need to discuss things with my wife and he starts to kind of pressure me by saying that we would "need to order the new heater by 3pm (it was1pm) if we wanted to have heat by Monday" (this is Friday afternoon). After discussing everything with my wife we decided to get a second opinion. I called another local company (Andres Air) the owner immediately put me at ease. He let me know that the board could be replaced for a fraction of the price I was quoted from Air Essentials. He arrived the next morning and we had heat within 30 minutes!! The entire cost for the new board and installation was 325$. You should be ashamed of yourselves for attempting to take advantage of a family without heat with Christmas only weeks away!! The 49$ fee is the only money Air Essentials will ever get from me. read more

I called to get a same day appointment, and was told there was availability from 1-3 p.m. Then I was asked for the home address and a good contact number. The technician (Dan) arrived and gave an explanation of what could be wrong with the A/C unit and how to fix it, which by the way, his solution was entirely different from 2 previous technicians. After that, he proceeded to give us a quote on the work that would be required, and it was then that we were told there was a charge of $49.99 for a site visit. I explained to the technician that I hadn't been told anything about that fee over the phone. He became very rude and stated that they always mention it when making appointments. I had to, once again, let him know that I hadn't been told anything in that regard. He decided to call the office to ask if she had mentioned the fee over the phone. She, of course, said yes. After having repeated myself several times, he gives up and finishes writing his paperwork (huffing and puffing). Then with an attitude, tells us to give him a call if we decide to have it fixed. Just as he was walking out the door, he decides to tell me, yet again, with a very rude demeanor "She always mentions the fee. I always hear her say it. I mean it's just $50" The audacity! Not only are you basically calling me a liar in my home, but you dare act like $50 is not a lot of money? If it isn't such a big deal, why are you so upset? Perhaps, your clerk is human, and she actually forgot to mention it. I'm definitely not calling them back if that is how they treat their customers. Getting A/C repaired is very expensive. The last thing I want to do is hand over what I consider a substantial amount of money to someone who is being rude. read more

My parents were looking to replace their 20+ yr furnace with an energy efficient furnace/AC. so we started calling local contractors based on what we found in BBB and Diamond Certified Booklet and got several quotes. Then we came across Air Essentials' ad in the local coupon book and decided to give them a call. It was Sunday night and the owner, Anthony, to my surprise actually answered the phone and scheduled an appointment with us 2 days later. We didn't know what to expect since we couldn't find a lot of reviews on the company online. However, to our surprise, when Anthony came out to our house for the estimate, he did a really thorough job explaining to us how energy efficient system differs from the old system. He wasn't pushy and was really patient when I asked him the same questions more than once. (Some of the other contractors i dealt with didn't know what "customer services" means at all) He recommended a Heil, which was a lot cheaper than Trane. (they sell both Heil and Trane). And with the coupon that we found in the coupon book, their quote was pretty competitive. so we decided to go with them. In a couple of days, his crew came out and installed the new furnace and the AC. The installation took a day and they did a good job. Since I wasn't home, Anthony kept me updated by phone and answered any questions that I had. After the installation, we realized that the airflow was weak upstairs due to the design of our house, I called Anthony, and without any hesitation, he sent his crew to our house to try to max the airflow upstairs. What really won us over was how responsive and patient Anthony and his crew were. We don't know much about HVAC so we tend to ask a lot of questions. But every time we had a question/concern, all I had to do was email Anthony and he would respond to me within a couple of hours. This still continued AFTER a couple of months after the installation. At the end, there was a problem with the PGE rebate, after an email to Anthony, he sent me a check right away without any problem. All in all, we were really impressive with their customer service and we highly recommend them. read more

He did take the time to listen to my concern and offered to refund me the $49. Not to many business will do that. I was referred to them by a good friend of mine that said I was in good hands, even tho that service call did not go well I can say I do have respect for the owner Anthony and how he handled it. The first guy to come out (I believe it was Dan) entered the house without putting coverings on his shoes. This seems to be the standard when I have used other businesses. He went into my attic located in my master bedroom closet and somehow managed to rip the entire closet rack from the wall. This was a major feat seeing as how there were wall anchors securing it. He couldn't fix the issue and left in a hurry. He said that someone would call to set up an appointment. That never happened. A few days later a different employee showed up to my house (without an appointment). I told him that I didn't want his services unless he fixed the damage that his co worker created. He agreed but only used screws with no wall anchors. Low and behold, the closet rack collapsed shortly after he left. I have my doubts about the other work that he performed but it's only suspicion. If you install a clothes rack without wall anchors, what does it say about the rest of your work? Overall I see this company as only interested in making a dollar and not the quality of their work. I don't plan on using their services in the future based on the nightmare I've encountered. read more

I explained to him the situation and he helped me trouble shoot the problem (which was most likely related to the power going out the other day) and fixed it over the phone. I mean, he could have come out here, collected the service fee and called it good but this sweet human being helped my shrug off my embarrassed self walked me through the steps of "checking my connections" which in this case was a tripped breaker. Eric came out with in the appt. window, found the problem with in 10-15 min, got it fixed, just a loose thermostat, easy fix. Bought the Yelp on line gift certificate $49, for $69 worth of service and that was it, almost took longer to write the paperwork. When/if I have a problem next time I will be sure to call them again! They worked on moving a central AC/heater system in our home and they also successfully resolved a longstanding issue we had with our minisplit system in our rental property. They serviced our air conditioner last year. They got it running right but let us know that it might be a more serious problem but thought we should take a wait and see attitude because it could be an expensive repair. There was know hard sell. They were courteous and friendly. As summer was just around the corner I decided to test it. It had stopped cooling again. I called them at 8:00 am and they were there that day with the same great service. They made the needed repair and we were all ready for summer. Purchased a rental property as is and while cleaning up for renting I noticed A/C wasn't very cold and condenser had a loss of fins while washing. I feared the worst. Called local company and Air Essentials answered and put me on schedule for two days away. I wasn't sure If I needed a service or replacement and advised office. Assumed right away I'd get an upscale upon service. Day of service their foreman arrived, was professional, knowledgeable, understood my needs and I got out of his way. He confirmed a few things I thought (needed new thermostat) and advised me what caused fins to detach. He did a system check and got wired thermostat to check function. Blew cold air. Suggested new thermostat and that's it. I was so impressed and willingly pulled out wallet to pay. He advised he was putting it down on a consult and there was no charge.
