So let's begin with my wife and I getting a 1971 VW camper bus. As a tribute to my late father, we decided to get the camper bus as a reminder of the good ol' days. Say 1986, when the world's fair was held in Vancouver, B.C. Canada, and my family took a road trip from San Diego to Vancouver. I like to say from one BC to the other BC (Baja California to British Columbia). Anyways, let's say that people were used to a slower pace in life, and that slow cars were ok and people understood that Aircooled VW's are 49 horsepower slow. But now, bring yourself to the present, where such vehicles are a nuisance and are downright slow and dangerous, because people are a bit too impatient. So here is where Air Cooled Vintage comes in.
I am looking to get the bus, literally up to speed with the modern times, with a brand new motor that has 100 horsepower. I email several companies which make aircooled VW engines. I emailed about 7 different companies, and only one guy emails me back. And he emailed me within the hour. His name is Jason, and he is the owner of Air Cooled Vintage. We email back and forth and each time he is responsive and incredibly knowledgeable about these old cars. Anyways, to make a long story short, I buy the motor, and it's amazing. It makes the old engine feel like a turtle. I had some issues with going up to Cardiff, as I'm in Bonita, and what does Jason and his brother Jordan do...well they offer to drop it off at my mechanics. Yes dry drove all the way down from Cardiff to deliver the new engine. It is something that is quite rare, service with a smile and that willingness to go the extra mile or 34 miles to be exact!
Anyways, I'm pretty happy with the new engine. It's a bit loud, and doesn't have any place for the heater boxes, but than again I'm new to this stuff. So I really didnt know to ask about it. But i am really quite happy with the new motor. It is like warp speed for the bus, so much quicker and gets on the freeway with not much effort. Thanks Jason and Jordan, you guys are amazing! read more
