I gave up on trying to find decent Harley repair in southern Arizona for 2000 era twin cams. I took my 2000 FLTRSEI to them for repair of the bike from previous poor work by two AZ independent shops doing a fuel injection/carb conversion. They diagnosed the issues, corrected them and had me on the road in one business day. Looks like I'll be in Oceanside soon for a couple of issues on two of my other Harleys. I have never done business with Ghetto Choppers, but I do know the business because they moved into the old Smokey's Speed Shop. And he always had some cool toys out in the yard, especially the extreme campers. I have heard from people who have done business with them and a few of their neighbors that they do good business and are very knowledgeable. Did I mention the cool off-road campers. They did just move down the street recently, so I might go in there sometime and check it out rather than just drive by. read more

I found out about this shop in the fall of 2006. I was new to SD County and they came highly recommended. I brought in forks for new seals and picked up clutch disc too. Happy with the work and the customer service. I kept in contact with them when I moved away. 10yrs later, I am now back in the area and it's good to know that Tim, Chris / the shop are still in business! Do not take your bike here. They will take advantage of you if your not sure of your bike. They did wrong and it was costly. They could have made things right and they didn't! Bummer is they lost a good customer! They will make an error so you have to take it back and say it's not their fault. read more

I recently wrecked my HD night train. Woke up in the hospital not knowing my last name. The bike wasn't as bad as I was but still needed a lot of help. I brought my bike in and it took a few days to figure out the damages and cost. All said and done it took 6 days and my bike was as good as new. There was a lot of work to be done. I thought I wouldn't be riding for at least 3 weeks to a month. I recommend these guys to everyone. They are professional and thorough on what they did with my money that I spent with them. I would not use them in the future. Chris was a nice guy and very thorough. However Tim was very unprofessional. I work in sales and customer service is everything. Just be upfront with people and deliver a timeline that you are going to stick to. Every time I called in it was another couple of days. This lasted for 3 weeks, until I went in in person. read more

These guys ROCK!!! San Diego is full of bike shops, and attitude often comes along with the image in most shops, but not here. I love to ride, but I don't even pretend to know my way around the mechanics of my 2000 Indian Chief. Being ignorant can make you feel uncomfortable when you walk into a shop, but the guys at Ghetto turn that around real fast. They are great! They went way beyond in taking care of my bike during a complete rebuild of the motor, and some other cosmetic issues. They kept me informed, gave me options, and let me know about the costs at each step. I've been lagging on doing this review since I bought my bike about a month ago. I could not be more happy with the service I received at Ghetto. I walked in really having very little knowledge about Harleys (noob trying to get in the game), and they took the time and explained answers to all my questions. Tim and Chris are both super nice guys, treated me like family right when I walked through the door. Eventually I came around again, and they had a bike sitting there with my name on it! I was shocked because I wasn't expecting them to even remember me. They gave me time to think over my decision, and offered to hold the bike for me. It didn't take long until I made my decision! They worked with me on price, and the entire transaction was smooth as butter. Also, they handled the vehicle transfer for no additional cost. That saved me a trip the the DMV, definitely a plus! I've gone in multiple times since purchasing the bike to bug the guys with more questions, and they are always willing to provide support. They greet you on a first name basis, and have an open door policy. These guys do great work, and I'll definitely be returning for future service on my ride. read more

It took them 9 weeks to get my exhaust that i already paid for in advance. It took them 14 weeks to get my suspension that I paid for in advance. Nothing but excuses... every time... just giving me the run around. It is really unfortunate because they are really nice guys. I have known Tim & Chris since 2004. Chris sold me my 2005 Swift Barchopper that I loved but unfortunately had many issues. Chris referred me to Tim back when he was in the old Tremont location, and Tim handled all of the warranty repairs on the Swift (and there were many!!) Tim dealt with Swift and got them to send the good parts it needed. On at least 2 different occasions on a weekend the bike broke down and Tim personally came with a trailer and picked the bike up. He always repaired the bike in a timely manner and did it correctly. Well late 2005 I was moving to Texas and did not want to ship the bike so Tim offered to sell it for me. Within 2 weeks Tim sold the Swift and mailed me a check to Texas. Flash forward 11 years later and I am back in California and Chris is selling me another bike, and Tim is doing his thing to Ghetto it out. Chris handled all the financing and set everything up to make the buying process as painless as possible. I can't say enough about these dudes, Tim & Chris are real people and do their best to help you. I am sure you heard the old saying "Good, Fast, or Cheap- Pick Two". They do good work which takes time and is not always cheap (even though they have great prices). The shop is busy because they are good, I would rather take my bike to a shop that is good and wait a little longer than take it to some hack. Your life literally depends on the quality of work your mechanic performs on your bike, I prefer to wait an extra day or week if necessary to know I am riding safely and reliably!! I make the 120 mile trip from Los Angeles to Oceanside to have Tim work on my bike because I just don't trust anybody else!! I did my business with Ghetto for years since the owner, Tim, move down to Oceanside from East Coast. As far as I remember, my bike always sat at the back of his shop not getting things done for months for my services. Meantime, I have no motorcycle to ride. The last stroke was I paid $3500 ahead of time. And again.....it sat in his shop for almost 2 years. He finally gave me back my bike with all USED parts and didn't even have turning signals. I had to drive my bike back to my house that was not even street legal. Thank goodness, I only live few miles away from his shop. I guess I didn't worth to Tim because I was not rich enough for him to spend top $$$$. read more

Customer Service sucks and they are very expensive. I dropped my bike off on a Tuesday to get new tires and have them "look" over the bike to see what it needed. Chris recommended that we do a full service on the bike since I just bought it. I said "no, look it over and give me a call to see what it needs before I shell out another 300 bucks for a service." I called that Thursday to check on my tires and to get an update on my bike. Chris said "we just got done with the service and were waiting on the tire to be in tomorrow and you will be good to ride" I was annoyed that they went ahead and did that service without my consent but I just wanted to ride. I get a call Friday from Chris saying that the caliper has been altered on the mounting point and that I would need a new caliper or would to have it machined down evenly because it couldn't be shimmed "properly" (it originally had a washer that was cut in half to make it even on the frame) I agreed to have them either mill the caliper or find a new one. I called that following Tuesday to get a status on my bike. Chris said they would have to mill the caliper and it would cost another $300 and it would take about a week to get back from the shop. I checked back the following Monday to see what the status is yet again. Chris said the caliper was at the machinist and he would call me when he got it back, he also couldn't give me any new date when the bike would be ready. Finally, that same Friday (almost three weeks later) I stopped at the shop to see what was going on and demand some kind of realistic date of when I could pick up my bike. As I was at the counter I saw my caliper that was supposed to be with the machinist for two weeks. I called Chris out on the fact that the caliper hasn't moved and has yet to even be touched by a machinist. He replied "Why would I give it to my machinist if he's really backed up?" At this point I went down the street rented a Uhaul trailer loaded up the bike and took it to Chandlers transmissions to have them mill the caliper. Tommy over at Chandlers realized I was eager to ride and he milled it that same afternoon and mounted it on the bike for whopping 70 bucks. (This took him an hour to do all of this) A big difference from Ghetto Choppers price of $300 and no prediction of when it would be done. Overall horrible experience with GC and I will never return. I recommend the guys at Kennedys or Chandlers transmissions (they work on bikes) in Oceanside to get work done for guys like myself who are new to the area. read more
