I had a starting issue with my Harley and stopped by to speak about setting up an appointment. I had bad experiences with Biggs Harley-Davidson but my bike was still under warranty and decided to stop by The Boar's nest. I talked to Ron and set up an appointment about 10 days out . The day prior to my appointment I decided to call to verify that we were still on because I had to have the bike towed there and had already made arrangements for the tow. Ron told me that they were busy and couldn't get to me and asked if I could push the appointment a week. I said sure, and we set a new appointment date. Just to be on the safe side, I decided to call the day before to verify and once again, Ron told me they were busy and asked if we could push the appointment out 2 weeks. My wife and I missed two group rides because of this lack of professionalism and the experience overall left a bad taste in our mouths. The thing that was upsetting, is that I had explained to Ron my frustration about the potential for missing these rides and he assured me that they would be able to get me in and get this thing diagnosed so that we could be on our way. I've been riding for 47 years and honestly can't remember a situation where I was just disregarded as a customer. So here I am a few weeks out after being assured that they would contact me as soon as they freed up a spot and crickets. I would rather let a guy that specializes in Japanese bikes work on my Harley at this point . Super disappointing because I live literally right around the corner and the convenience of having a trustworthy Harley mechanic close by would have been great. I'm so happy I stopped by and asked Andy about getting my fork oil replaced on my 2014 Road King. I spoke with Andy which quoted me a good price and while there I asked him if they chromed forks and he said they offer an exchange service by selling me newly chromed legs/Lowers/ sliders which ended up being a sweet deal. In exchange I would surrender my stock forks and they would install these nice chrome ones for a very affordable price and to include the services of changing the forks, oils and seals. Went in to find a short near my battery. Was charged $428 including 2 hours labor and $130 in parts. They did not find the short just replaced unnecessary parts still had the short. When I took the bike home again it wouldn't start I then found the short right where I told them it probably was. I fixed it Josh would not refund any of the over $400 that his mechanics failed to find the short and sent me on my way with the bike in the same condition. I brought it in ! brought my street glide in to have a stator replaced. Was quoted $400 for the job got a call the next morning from Andy stating that the price has doubled for the exact same job was told that the sales associate had missed quoted the job. Upon trying to pick up the motorcycle later that morning, I was given a bill for $160 for diagnosing the stator which I told them that's what I wanted replaced and that's what I was quoted on. would not release the bike unless I paid the ransom motorcycle was left outside two days in the rain so if you have anything nice, please be forewarned that they don't care and absolutely get everything in writing prior to any work or diagnostic bait and switch shop. read more

DON'T EVER GO TO THIS PLACE!!!. Scam artists trying to make a quick buck. Had to go there for an emergency tire repair while I was on the road and they were the closest shop. Asked up front how much a tube/repair would be and they wouldn't tell me. That they would have to look at it. Have spoked wheels with inner tube that had a nail puncture. Proceeded to try and tell me I had to buy a whole new tire (tire has less 1500mi on it) because of a small nail they found in the center of the tread. Not even in the tread groove or close to the side wall. Told them it's a tubed tire.. they proceed to "just put a new tube in it". Job done time to pay.. was charged $175 for a replacement tube, re balance, and labor. Keep in mind 1 month before this I had the new rear tire put on at THE CHOPPER GALLERY of Temecula which was $250 out the door.... Should've just done the work myself. If I would've known how bad my experience was going to be I wouldve just had my bike towed and spent the extra time to NOT give them any of my money. Super disappointed in this "local shop" super dishonest and will never go there for anything again and make sure I tell all my friends to be wary of this place. read more

Recently purchased my first Harley, and like most used bikes it needed some work. Went to a couple other places, and they weren't entertaining the electrical work the bike needed. Josh listened to what I had observed with the bike and took the time to explain all of the issues that were going on to me. He kept an open line of communication and made sure I was comfortable with what needed to be purchased for the bike, even asking me to come in and show me first hand what was going on. I am not trying to portray I am any sort of Harley buff, after all - I am the girl that puts blinker fluid in things ... Fortunately, Josh and Ian were very welcoming and helpful in answering my questions. They are very professional and have endless knowledge about anything motorcycle related. It's always a bonus when they are as easy on the eyes as some of the pristine motorcycles they have one display. I brought in a 21 inch custom wheel to Josh for my 2001 Road Glide to see if can be installed on my bike. It was from a 2012 HD . Some people said it wouldn't work and possibly have to change bearings and spacers if it could. Josh explained to me the different bearings sizes from the different years. He told me he could make it work by changing out the axel and use the same bearings in the wheel. He got the parts in and Sal did an excellent Job putting it all together! Now my bike looks AMAZING! Its the only 01 that has this custom wheel. I will always take my HD there to get work done on it. They are professional knowledgeable and cheaper than the dealership. They have a nice showroom too! I really went here after reading all the positive reviews about this place and having high hopes that upon arrival, I would be given the warm and fuzzy of bringing a recently purchased motorcycle for a full check up to ensure it was in good working order. When I first came into the Boars Nest it was if I was entering one of those places where everyone in the business is too cool for school and part of their own little club, and if you arent seen as part of that club, you are treated with a weird mild lack of respect. Its pretty much the same as when you walk into a comic book shop, and the guy behind the counter treats you like you are wasting his time by coming into his shop and asking him questions about stuff you are less than knowledgeable on. I understand that in the motorcycle world there are cliques (sport bike riders vs. cruiser riders vs harley riders vs ect.) so i expected a bit of a conceited attitude. When I asked for him to do a full check up on the motorcycle and an oil change, I got a confused look.... This worried me... If you are in any automotive industry you should know what an actual full check on a motorcycle entails. The customer shouldnt be there taking wild stabs in the dark at what you should be checking. This is what happened more or less, me with no motorcycle knowledge trying to guess at components that should be checked on the bike. Check and tune the carburetor? Sure... That's a thing, right? It ended with me requesting a few basic checks and then kicking myself later because there actually was a list of checks they could have done for me, but the guy behind the counter didnt have an idea about. Also for an oil change and a tire change. I left the place feeling that my bike was in the wrong hands and that these guys might be looking to swindle me out of a few dollars. Thats not a good feeling to leave anywhere with. Mainly because, when it comes down to it, maybe the problems were legitimate and they did help me, but it will still feel like im getting screwed which isnt a feeling you ever want to give your customer. A few days later I received a phone call. The tire couldnt be put on, no big deal, and they offered to give me a used tire in much better condition. They also found a tear in my bikes belt and the replacement costing me another $400. When I went to pick up my bike, the tire they had put on looked a little bit worse than the one that they had taken off. This could have not been the case, but like i said before, their aloof your under me type of customer service had already begun to cause me to be very suspicious of anything they did. When i got the bike back it felt like all that had gotten done was the oil change. I do trust the work they did on the belt, mainly because it would be beyond me to consider these people to be so low to outright charge $400 to someone for no good reason. I left this place feeling as though I had made the wrong choice. Since my visit I have had a few friends of mine tell me they had the same experience. They turned there vehicles in and either got them back in the same condition (no work done) or worse condition. I had also got a customer service call from these guys asking about the experience, being busy at work, I really couldnt give them the full blast of distrust they had imparted on me from the moment I entered their business. Not that it would have mattered since the customer service rep was having a bad day apparently, and really was letting me know this through his "I'm hung over and i have to call these idiots"-like tone. In reality this is all I expected, and all I wanted to walk away from this place with them getting a full 5 stars from me: 1. Greet your damn customers like customers and have someone more knowledgeable at the counter. I dont expect smiles and an attitude that says you must be on drugs to be so happy. I expect a full professional attitude. If you cant answer a question, go get a mechanic! 2. A full, I just bought this bike, maintenance check should probably be -all hoses/lines -brakes -spark plugs -carburetors/ injectors -full run on the motor for noise in the engine -tuning if needed -tires -lights and signals -belts -oil -transmission (if possible) -exhaust lines You could check 90% right there with the customer in about 10-20 minutes! 3. DO NOT PERFORM ANY CUSTOMER SERVICE CALL WHEN YOU ARE ANYTHING OTHER THAN 100%. The call I got for the belt was perfect, professional, the one asking about my experience, I just wanted to get off the phone with him as soon as I could. read more

Jason A Shirk -- 1 star Ian at the desk is a very respectful and helpful guy, but the rest of them are shitheads... I took my bike in there because the rear cylinder was misfiring...and it was getting to much fuel.. I get it back, and the bill was 120 bucks more than I was quoted, AFTER I very specifically told them NOT to do any more work to it...when I got it back part of the rocker box cover gasket was sticking out the side and leaking oil (for the second time, they already did it once).. the seal for one of the push rod tubes was leaking oil (they said they put new seals in them), and there is another leak I haven't even been able to track down yet... there were no oil leaks before at all...they said they re jetted mycarb, but I tore it apart to see and NOTHING was new.. the vacuum caps/ block offs were dry rotted and I asked to have them replace, but when I got it back the rotten ones were still there and leaking air....My gas tank now leaks, and never did before... they said they put new points in it and checked the timing, but as soon as I picked it up It ran like SHIT.... they said they adjusted the valves, because there was a tapping coming from the top end on one cylinder... granted the tapping is gone, BUT NOW MY BOTTOM END IS KNOCKING LIKE THE COPS ARE AT THE DOOR.... and I have to rebuild the entire fucking engine before it blows up....HOW.. seriously.. how.. in the HELL..... does a nice, reputable shop completely destroy a bike in one week???? mind blown... and then argue with me trying to charge me for the work that was done that I specifically said NOT TO DO.... then threaten to take off all the parts that were put on my bike??( which was NOT, all that they said was put on it.)..I happened to run into a former employee of theirs that QUIT.... He is now my new mechanic.. moral of the story, THESE GUYS (other than Ian) ARE A COMPLETE FUCKING JOKE, AND JOSH (THE OWNER) I HOPE YOURE READING THIS, IM SUING YOUR ASS FOR MY LOST WAGES FROM MISSING WORK, AND I HAD A CERTIFIED HARLEY MECHANIC CHECK THE BIKE OUT YOU GUYS DIDNT DO SHIT!! Not sure where to start since my entire experience with Josh, Ian and others was great from start to finish. I dropped off my bike to have an exhaust installed. Later that day, they called and said the brake pedal was hitting the heat shield. Since the exhaust manufacturer was no help, Josh gave me a few options and let me keep the bike there for a few days while I determined what I wanted to do. Ended up going with one of Josh's suggestion to grind the brake pedal a bit. Go pick up the bike and the work on the brake pedal looks totally custom, exhaust install is perfect and oh yeah...they charged me less than what was originally quoted! These guys are AWESOME and I highly recommend them. That's all I need to say, but I'll go into a little more detail than that... I had been having battery issues with my 2012 Harley XL1200C for awhile now. When I called most shops all the way from downtown SD to up here in Oceanside, I was given random and overwhelming prices just over the phone when I'd try to explain what was wrong with my bike, and most of the Harley dealerships charge an arm and a leg and kept telling me that my "battery was fine" after charging me for a diagnostic fee or making me wait for hours just to look at it and for me to drive it home and not be able to start my bike again the next morning. I decided to do some local repair-shop exploring (instead of looking for the "big" bike shops), and I found Boars Nest on Google along with some good reviews here on Yelp so I figured I'd give them a try. I called them up and wasn't rushed on the phone while explaining my issues, and I was given a logical and confident response that they could fix it and I even got the "okay" to bring it on in right away and that I could wait while they checked my bike out (and it was also nice to hear that their labor-rate was a great price and that they could perform Harley warranty repairs on my bike if I needed that too). I got to Boars Nest and they took my bike in right away to look at it, and they even put up with me asking a million and one questions from basic riding questions, to other issues I've had with my bike, and upgrades that I've been wanting to do, all while they had a guy in the back testing out my battery. I was surprised at how well Josh put up with all of my questions because to be honest if it was me on the other side I'd have probably got frustrated haha, but that just goes to show the high level of knowledge Josh has and the high-quality of service that I was provided with. While talking about my issues, they told me that I DID need a new battery so I agreed to install a new one, and I remembered that I was in pretty dire need of an oil change (another thing that the dealerships over-charge for and take too long to perform which is why I kept putting it off), so I asked to have that done too and they said "no problem!" and started doing it without telling me I'd need to leave it there for hours or a day, then later I asked for the transmission oil change too and they were happy to oblige. Josh also gave me a bunch of quotes on various parts and labor that I was interested in...and they also noticed that I needed new tires which was true and I didn't even notice as I wasn't paying attention (nor did another large dealership who completely overlooked my tires and the same un-named large dealership who told me my battery was fine when it was NOT). You may think that I'm just describing common decency and good customer service here but let me tell you from personal experience, those things are HARD to come by! I've literally been to all of the "big" Harley dealerships and shops in SoCal or at least called them and spoken with them at length and most of the time I'd have to get on a wait-list as if I'm going to the doctors office, just for me to leave my bike with a dealership for 2 or more days for only 1 or 2 hours-worth of work. Josh and the guys at Boars Nest know their stuff, they're friendly and honest, and because they actually spend quality-time with you and your bike; they'll actually do a better job at fixing it and noticing important issues (in my opinion) than going to a Harley Dealer or big shop who will just rush through your bike like what has happened to me many times now. I wasn't stuck waiting around long, paid a great price for all of the service, labor, and parts that I got, and I'm super happy to have my bike back in good-running order. Their shop has a cool motorcycle show room with some bikes up for sale, they're really well-stocked and have a lot of cool parts, gear, and apparel for sale as well. The place is clean and definitely has a great overall look and feel to it that screams American Muscle, and it didn't hurt that they had some great tunes playing while I waited there. It's a place that I'll definitely enjoy visiting again soon. I'm thrilled with this shop and they're my new go-to people for all of my bike's needs, maybe now I'll take better care of my bike since it's super easy and affordable for me to work with these guys.
